Okay! So I’m putting this here bc I’m too lazy to type in the tags rn lol. It’s like midnight for me currently
1. I really never use them at all, and if I do it’s like once or twice throughout the entire novel
2. I do use dashes sometimes but I use commas wAY more
3. If I want to put emphasis or stress a certain word or sentence then yes I will use italics
4. Never. I feel like it’s too unprofessional. Exclamation points are literally made for this sort of thing y’know? Plus the reader will easily be able to sense the character’s anger based off the words they use, the mood of the scene, etc. So making the character scream in all caps to show they’re angry and screaming is not necessary at all.
5. I actually have no idea how the fuck you use a semicolon so nEXT-
6. Nope! Also never! Nothing is sexier and more professional looking than proper capitalization in this household babes
7. Guilty, but I would never overuse it, you know? I limit myself when it comes to lines like that, so in reality I’ve only used it a couple of times.
hey, writers. reblog this with your opinions on:
(using parentheses)
using em-dashes—more or less liberally
using italics
DIALOGUE IN ALL CAPS TO IMPLY YELLING
the semicolon; or, how to properly use it
capitalizing Important words
using. repetitive. punctuation. for. emphasis.
