Kabumisu nation, I call on you in our hour of need!
Masterpost
#cithis and pattadol is a very fun ship kind of a hannibal lecter clarice starling vibe#but anyway: every single character in dungeon meshi is racist because they live in a racist world. Marcille is racist. The orcs are racist.#Laios and Falin are racist#Mithrun isn't EXTRA racist just because he has no filter and is aware of what the rude thing to call another race is#and says it when prompted. All he does is say out loud what the other elves are implying behind their Politically Correct mockery.#Mithrun listens to and takes advice from people from the short-lived races even when he does not have to#the only reason laios succeeds is because Mithrun LETS HIM TRY and in fact prevents Flamela from stopping Laios.#Mithrun is humbled enough by his experiences to know that good ideas can come from other races.#and yes he is humbled: when kabru tries to gloss over his shitty past behavior by saying he was perfect#Mithrun says no I wasn't perfect. I was an asshole that looked down on everyone. I had them fooled into thinking I was perfect but I wasn't#could this be... a metaphor for the way elves behave? a parallel?#Anyway Mithrun and Kabru's entire story arcs are about them learning to live again after surviving depression... by helping each other#yes kabru is depressed too he drinks himself to sleep with alcohol. He's an alcoholic. he lives in a basement with no personal belongings#He has no goals in life or desires outside of “stop another Utaya from happening” and “find out why Utaya happened”#his pep talk to mithrun at the end of the manga is also DIRECTED AT HIMSELF. He also believes he is vegetable scraps.#He's just fooled the rest of the world into thinking that he's not garbage... just like young Mithrun pretending to be perfect.#They're the same. THat's why they're able to learn from each other.
