Ok, I love the latest episodes. They addressed issues that needed addressing whilst revealing all of its mess and I love that for them. But perhaps what pisses me off with the latest episodes of OFMD is Stede saying that he wasn't really impressed by Ed's fishing story --- that he only praised him so he'd feel good. And for me, that ruins the magic of that scene and made me feel that the Stede standing there wasn't the Stede I knew

Because, what made the "You wear fine things well." work so well in S1 was because that was just Stede being Stede -- kind, gentle, genuine. He really did think Ed's pretty sophisticated. He really did think Ed wore fine things well. Their whole conversation reflected how Stede assured Ed that he could be a part of the world he never thought he'd be --- that he'd be deserving of the finer things in life. And Stede didn't even do it on purpose.

So for the S2 episode paralleling that to take this turn irks me to say the least. Because Ed's story of fishing reflected a part of him that you'd think Stede would be genuinely interested in seeing. But for Stede to say he just reacted enthusiastically to make Ed feel good makes Stede look like he lost that gentleness and genuineness that we know he has.

AND THAT pisses the shit out of me.
