While the all-white kitchen will probably never go out of style, there are lots of new design trends for 2021 that will make you equally happy. Think: natural elements with some pops of color as well as a visit to the dark side with colors you might never expect. We know, we know. You’ve already carefully chosen every appliance, picked out each piece of hardware, and planned your kitchen design to a T, but there are ways to dip your toes into the world of color without messing up your rustic farmhouse kitchen aesthetic. On the color front, why not try painting your ceiling a fun color, like Haint Blue? How about hauling in some colorful appliances?

If you’ve been wanting to layer in more natural elements, try “sustainable” and “eco-friendly” items. These are words that are popping up more and more, with many companies offering green solutions for cabinets and shelving. You can also think about bringing in handmade tiles in materials like terra-cotta and cement—a great solution for adding a little more soul to your space, regardless of whether or not you opt to completely switch over to a farmhouse style vibe.

When it comes to countertops, quartz is quickly becoming an affordable and low maintenance alternative to our beloved marble. There are even new trends for accessorizing your countertops, like vintage plate racks made to display your grandmother’s china. Hardware and metal finishes continue to push the envelope—think brass, nickel, and matte black. Removable wallpaper companies are making it even easier to experiment with pattern on walls and backsplashes. Consider 2021 as the year of the kitchen!

Carrara marble like that shown here will always be in style, but if you’re a red wine drinker, quartz could be a much better fit for you and your kitchen. While it looks like a natural stone, engineered quartz is more affordable and less prone to stains.

Interior Design Ideas: Tailored Interiors

Certain homes are made to be carefully admired and I feel this newly-built family home is one of them.

According to the interior designer, Traci Connell of Traci Connell Interiors, this project was completed for a tight-knit family in the heart of Dallas, TX. They desired a home that looked lush and glamorous yet would be livable when their large, sports fanatic family came over to throw a watch party. The clients were looking for the perfect home to call their own and found this beautiful spec home that met all their needs. They then hired the designer to furnish the entire home from top to bottom.

In the Navy: Dark Blue Is the ‘Now’ Neutral in Home Decor

If you’ve perused home decor ideas on Pinterest or Instagram lately, there’s a 100% chance you’ve come across navy blue walls, cabinets, furniture, and more. That’s because in 2019, we’re embracing looks that are dark and moody, yet cozy and calming. Navy blue is softer than black but still adds timeless sophistication—and it’s easy to combine with accents that pop.

“Navy is a true neutral,” notes Sharon L. Sherman of Thyme & Place Design, in Wykoff, NJ. “It goes with many colorways and is a nice replacement to the very hard edge of black.”

Here are nine stylish ways to spruce up your home with navy blue.

1. Add drama to the bedroom

Plus, it seems counterintuitive, but cool colors—like forest green and navy blue—can add depth to a small room, causing the eye to perceive a narrow bedroom as wider. As a bonus, studies have shown that blue—including navy—walls are calming and can be more conducive to a good night’s sleep.

2. Create a tuxedo kitchen

Simply put, it’s a color-blocked design where the floor cabinets are one color (typically black), and the upper cabinets are another (typically white). But there’s no need to feel limited to a penguin palette. Navy blue allows you to get creative, and still keep it classy.

“Navy cabinets pair especially well with the equally popular marble countertops or quartz made to look like marble,” notes Liz Toombs of Kentucky-based PDR Interiors. “The deep blue creates a pop of color without overwhelming the hub of the home.”

3. Embrace some built-in style

Painting built-ins and surrounding walls in the same shade of navy blue can produce a more intimate living area with a fresh and stylish feel.

Look to a high-gloss finish, which works especially well on bookcases and directs proper attention to colorful books, framed photos, and decorative items on the shelves.

4. Go for a navy blue backsplash

6. Show off a navy blue statement piece

Or try adding a splash of color—like navy countertop stools—in a neutral space like your white kitchen.

“If you are starting with a room already done in neutrals such as grays, beiges, [and] even black and white, navy can add a great pop of color,” says Danielle Palmadessa of DRP Interiors, in Franklin Lakes, NJ.

7. Give wallpaper a second life

And now we’ll do you one better: Look for wallpaper in navy blue. (Trust us on this.)

“Using a solid textured paper is timeless and really makes the accessories pop,” Palmadessa notes.

If you’re hesitant to paper all four walls, just try it as an accent wall, or try removable wallpaper, which is all the rage right now.

8. Create a calming bathroom retreat

Steal This Look: A Restaurant Supply Kitchen in Tokyo

One of our all time favorite projects at Remodelista is the Setagaya Tokyo Apartment, designed by Naruse Inokuma Architects. The deconstructed industrial kitchen is made from concrete blocks, larch plywood, and stainless steel and outfitted with an eclectic mix of Japanese kitchenware. Here, we’ve dissected the dining room/kitchen for a list to borrow from.

Above: The apartment is characterized by accidental beauty: After stripping wallpaper the architects discovered the gray wall marking but left the patina as a feature rather than covering it up.

Above: A larch plywood countertop and open shelves surround the stainless steel sink. On the far end of the kitchen sits a cooktop, vent, and undercounter refrigerators from a restaurant supply store.

Above: A few small appliances and Japanese ceramic dishes fill the open shelving.

Interior Design Ideas: Fairbanks Ranch

Who’s ready to take a little break from farmhouses?

Designed by one of my favorite interior designers, AGK Design Studio (recently featured here & here), this custom home located in Fairbanks Ranch, CA., will be a feast for your eyes!

Black steel windows give a modern feel to this traditional Hacienda-style home.

The exterior is stucco, Senergy 330 Ultra White – a very similar paint color would be Sherwin Williams Oyster White SW 7637, which is a creamy, “seashell” white.

Interior Design Ideas: Modern Farmhouse Interiors

Hello, my friends! How great it is to have you on Home Bunch!

Today’s Interior Design Ideas features only modern farmhouse interiors and I think you guys will really like to see all of the details found in this home.

Recently built by Reed Brothers Design & Build (you can follow them on instagram here), this modern farmhouse features white shingle exterior, grey shutters and interiors that are impressive but completely welcoming. I am also sharing the floor plan at the end of this post. Make sure to save your favorite pictures (gotta love Pinterest for that!) and take notes on all sources shared here!

Utah New-construction Home

Before finding the right lot and a builder you can trust to build your dream home, we all go through many years (or at least months) of collecting inspiring ideas for our new-construction home. We often collect ideas that will be transformed into what works for us and if you’re in the phase of finding the best ideas for your new home, this recently-built Utah home should fill up your inspiration file.

I have loved the many homes built by Millheaven Homes for many years now and this one was certainly built with a young growing family in mind.
