Chan
The minute you pulled up your Spotify Wrapped, Chan was leaning over to be nosy.
"I bet it all Stray Kids." He said, as the animations started playing." You gave a small nervous laugh, knowing that it wasn't going to be them.
"And I was rig- Billie? Eilish?" His face froze. "Billie Eilish, Tyler, the Creator...Stray Kids. We're third?" His brows furrowed and the corners of his smile twitched downwards. "Oh..." His voice was defeated and he looked at you with unreadable eyes.
"Yeah! Isn't that great! You guys are in my top five!" You said pinching his cheek lightly, trying to brighten the look painted on his face.
But it was no use since he was already spiraling.
"So do you- well, is it our music? Do you not like it anymore? Is it too repetitive? Or is it my production? Should I switch things up- like should I make more ballad? Add more orchestral elements? Or maybe-"
"Chris-"
"-more collabs? Maybe Billie would be open to- are our lyrics not deep enough?"
"Christopher-"
"I think maybe we need less-"
"CHRISTOPHER BANG!" You shouted through a fit of laughter.
He pulled back in surprise and looked at you with eyes as wide as saucers.
You took your hands, placing them on either side of his face. "It's not you or the boys, baby."
"Then what was it? Why weren't we number one?" He asked with a pout.
"You're third because I live with you." You lips upturned and Chan searched your face. "I don't need Spotify to listen to Stray Kids. I've got the worlds best producer humming in my ear while we fold laundry and wash the dishes. Billie and Tyler don't do that."
His lips parted into a sheepish grin, a small "hehe" slipping out of his mouth as his face scrunched into a boyish excitement.
"You think I'm the best producer."
"Without a doubt." You replied, kissing his cheek softly. "So stop overthinking. What matters is that your my number one where it actually matters."
Chan's ears flushed pink when you said those words, and he surrendered, opting to cuddle next to you on the couch as you turned on the TV.
"Alright..." He said as you clicked on a random drama. "But I'm still going to add some features on our next album. Just for you."

Minho
"Y/N. You're a virgin."
You sputtered on your tea, getting it on to the pages of your book. "And?! What does that have to do with anything-" You asked as you turned around to see your boyfriend dangling your phone like it was contaminated.
Your Spotify Wrapped illuminated the screen.
"Minnie-" You reached to snatch your phone but he held it out of arms reach, his eyebrows raised in mock incredulity.
"What the hell are your top five songs Y/N?! CupcakKe?! Unironically?!" He looked at your screen. "Deepthroat...Its Hard to Say I Love You, parentheses, while you're sitting on my face...Slob On My Knob- and another CupcakKe song, Y/N are you trying to manifest something?! Because this is not the way!" He said in horror.
You gave up trying to reach for your phone and crossed your arms and huffed. "As my friend always says- celibacy either leads to being asexual or a freak. Its a closed way of thinking but can be rather true sometimes..." You muttered, turning away to hide the blush creeping up your face.
"I'm shocked." He said, looking through the songs again.
"Why? It's art."
"Art. Art? Stray Kids is art, kitten. Wanting to eat dick but not wanting to fuck up your nails so - and I quote - 'i pick it up with chopsticks' is not art. Thats basically audio porn."
"More like audio smut."
"More like absolutely fucking terrfying." He said looking at the rest of your wrapped in morbid curiosity. "Where do you even listen to this freakiness? At the gym? While cooking? In public?"
"Sometimes..." You said shrugging and deciding to own it. "Its empowering."
Minho dramatically handed your phone back to you, giving you the longest and hardest side eye ever. "Your a completley different person. I've never been more afraid of you in my entire life. And I've seen you drive."
You took your phone, his words giving you and idea.
A devious smirk lit up your face.
Minho watched you in curiosity as you set your phone down. "Baby..." You started to laugh, heading to the living room. "What are you plotting-" Your eyes zoned in on the Alexa and Minho's eyes widened as he replayed his words.
"Alexa-"
"Baby no-"
"Play Drive by Stray Kids"
"Jagiya no-"
"Now playing Drive, by Bangchan and Lee Know-"
"Alexa no! Stop don't play that!"
"-feel the heat inside. Baby, baby we gon' do this day and night-"
"Enjoy your own art, baby!" You said kissing, him which in habit he leaned into before yelling at Alexa frantically.
"Alexa! Stop! Cancel- Delete Y/N's existence!"

Changbin
"So..ITZY is your number one?" Changbin asked you, an unreadable look on his face as he stared at your phone. "Then NewJeans, TWICE, Blackpink, and aespa?"
"Yes..."
"And Stray Kids didn't even make it to your top five?"
"Yes...?"
There was a moment of silence, and Changbin looked up at you.
Your heart thudded in your chest, and your mouth felt dry. "Are...are you mad?"
Changbin set your phone face down and stepped towards you. "Mad? Mad?" He asked, his voice slightly elevated.
You opened your mouth to say something- to apologize or ask him to not be too angry but instead you were shocked when he trapped you in a hug and lifted you; spinning you around in a tight hug.
"I'M ECSTATIC!" He said, setting you down, and almost vibrating from happy energy. "Why would I have reason to be upset?"
"Because you weren't on my top five. Since your my boyfriend I thought that would make you-"
He shook his head, placing his hand out and closing his eyes. "Its a sign." He said in a philsophical whimsy.
"...What?"
He opened his eyes looking into the distance romantically. Then extending his arms in a dramatic flourish he painted the picture.
"You like girl groups. Meaning you're clearly meant to be with me."
You looked at him in a confused wonder.
"Think about it. I'm the ultimate baby girl. ITZY was number one. Who is close to ITZY? Me, Seo Changbin, your boyfriend. Subconciously, your soul has been telling you I'm the one for you all along." He said looking at you with a cheeky grin.
That made you laugh, your nerves leaving you.
"Binnie I think that has to be the most unhinged logic I have ever heard!"
"But it makes sense. The music reminds you of me. The energy scream 'Changbin'." You could almost imagine the sparkles around his name. "Cute, charismatic, adorable. The visuals- the duality. Me. Changbin." He looked at you with an exaggerated smolder.
He pushed you onto the couch gently, attacking you with tickles.
"Bin- you're- riDICuLOUS-" You squealed, as his fingers flew around you.
"No I'm not!"
"DelusionAL-"
"Never!"
He strengthened his attack until you could barely breathe you were laughing so loud- wondering why you thought someone like Changbin would be upset at something so meaningless.
"Even if I was, you would love me nonetheless!" He stopped his tickles, he blew a rapsberry on your neck and peppered you face with a few kisses. "And you'd have to deal with it 'cause your stuck with me forever."
"Forever?" You asked, a radiant smile on your face as the last of your giggles died out.
"Yes forever." Changbin replied, plopping down on top of you, planting one last firm kiss on your lips. "ITZY said so."

Hyunjin
"Beethoven? BEETHOVEN?"
Hyunjin looked at you, his jaw nearly on the floor. When he asked you who your most listened to artist of the year was, he wasn't expecting to hear a classical composer leave you lips.
"Yes. Beethoven. Followed by you guys."
"N-n-n-n-no. No. Nope, no. Nnnnnn...nono." Hyunjin said shaking his head. "Run that back."
"Beethoven then-"
"Y/N-ah." He said with a serious look. "You mean to tell me...Beethoven- an old dead guy - was favorite over the band your loving, hard-working ALIVE and BREATHING boyfriend is a part of?!" His eyes narrowed in disgust.
"Well if you put it like that-"
He flopped dramtically onto the couch. "How am I supposed to tell the guys you chose a decomposing man who sits there- uh...metaphorically- and collects streams; over your boyfriend and his bandmates who work day and night, through blood, sweat and tears." He throws his hand over his forehead. "Its such a disgrace."
"Hyunnie, I think that Beethoven would have words for you if he was here." You say through a chuckle.
"Well he may have words for me, but I have no words for you." He said huffing dramatically, zoning in on Kkami who was sleeping peacefully. Hyunjin stands and scoops him up, burying his face in the poor, startled dog's fur.
"I can't believe you and your dramatics." You say walking up to him and putting your hand on the top of his head.
"C'mon Kkami. It's just me and you now buddy. We're boycotting Y/N-ie."
You rolled your eyes, letting out a snort. "You're a drama king, Hyunjin." You said, your eyes trailing to Kkami who looked between you and Hyunjin in an unconcerned sleepiness.
"Y/N clearly doesn't love us anymore."
Kkami looked at Hyunjin, then looked at you and then back at Hyunjin, then cocked his head; almost as if he understood the absurdity of the situation.
"You're insufferable." You flicked your boyfriend's nose, and stole the dog from his arms. "Beethoven is my study music. It helps me focus."
"So you're saying we're distracting?" Hyunjin takes Kkami out of your arms. "Don't talk to me or my dog ever again." He flips his hair and buries his face once more in the small dogs fur, the later shooting a look that seemed like an SOS.
"You're being so extra." You sat on the couch, patting the spot Hyunjin occupied only a minute ago.
"Oh, am I?" He asked, lowering himself next to you, a playful pout on his lips. Kkami immediately rushing towards the far end to resume his nap.
"Unbearably so." You whispered against his lips. "And for the record, Beethoven doesn't make songs that make me want to cry like 'Cover Me' or songs I want to scream at the top of lungs like 'God's Menu'."
"You really like Cover Me that much?"
"Mm. Obviously."
"Fine, fine. I forgive you. But only because I'm way to pretty to hold grudges."
You roll your eyes, but can't help the smile that forms.

Han
Han peered over your shoulder, his eyes widening as he looked at your Spotify Wrapped.
“Y/N... baby, angel, love of my life...this... this...is your Wrapped?” he asked, a mix of disbelief and amusement in his voice.
You glanced at him, not anticipating the reaction. “Yeah, it’s my Wrapped. What’s wrong with it?”
Han let out an exaggerated gasp.
"Jagiya...Taylor Swift? Olivia Rodrigo? Sabrina Carpenter?” He placed his hands on his hips, shaking his head in mock disappointment. “You’re telling me I’m dating someone who has these as their top artists?” He blinks at you.
You blinked at him back incredulously. “What’s wrong with that?”
“Everything!” Han said, his voice playful but slightly elevated. “I thought you were cooler than this, Y/N! You’re too good for this mainstream pop stuff. You deserve better! To think you've never experienced more than that bubble...my heart is breaking."
You couldn’t help but chuckle at his intense reaction. “I listen to your music as well! Besides...I like what I like? Why do you care so much?” You retorted.
“Because,” he said, suddenly serious, “I’m trying to help you, babe. Spotify Wrapped is like a doctor basically, it gives you a diagnosis. You’re... basic. Heartbreakingly basic. I'd be okay if you had at least one quirky artist but your last artist is Playboi Carti which knowing you, you played his music on repeat while you slept so your wrapped could seem at least a little cool."
You let your eyes land anywhere but him, knowing he clocked you on that one.
"I’m going to save you from this madness.”
You raised an eyebrow. “Am I really that boring?”
Han shook his head, his expression turning playful again. “No, no. Not boring, just undiscovered. You could be listening to something way cooler- something with depth! I’m dating someone who only listens to pop queens when you should be out here vibing to underground, avant-garde...I don’t know, maybe like, 90s rock or something? You seem like you could rock with that to be honest?”
“90s rock?” you echoed, trying not to burst out laughing.
“Yes! You need to broaden your horizons!” Han continued, clearly loving the moment. “I’m not mad that Stray Kids aren’t number one, I mean, that’s whatever, you literally can have a private show whenever you want. BUT I’m honestly a little teensy weensy upset I’m dating someone with such a copy and paste taste. Come on, babe! I expected better! Especially when you're dating a member of a band that has a wide range of talent. I mean you can literally ask me or any of the guys and you'd get a shit ton of different recs. You have an entire library of musical knowledge at your disposal. That's like having 100 flavors of icecream and choosing vanilla.”
You grinned, poking him lightly. “Okay, I get, I get it. But just so you know, you're still number one in my life, even if its not represented in my music choices."
Han’s eyes sparkled as he leaned in, ruffling your hair with a grin. “I’ll fix that, don’t worry. We’re going to go on a musical journey. I’m making you a new playlist. And I'll have the rest of the memebers make you playlists as well. You’re going to listen to some cool stuff, baby, and by next year’s Wrapped, you’ll be so hip that even I’ll be jealous.”
“I’m not sure I’m ready for that,” you said, laughing. “I kind of like my basic pop playlists.”
“Well, you will like my playlists,” Han said confidently, leaning back with a smug smile. “Trust me, love. I’ve got you covered. You’ll thank me later, once you realize just how much better music can be than the top 40."
You laughed, shaking your head. “Alright, alright, I’ll give it a shot. But only if you don’t judge me when I still go back to my pop queen playlist sometimes.”
“I’ll never judge you,” Han said, giving you a sweet smile. “I’m just here to help you reach your full potential as a music lover. Open your world up a bit. Change your life.”
You poked his side playfully. “You’re so dramatic, but I love you.”
“I know you do,” he said with a grin, leaning down to kiss your forehead. “Now, get ready to say goodbye to those mainstream artists and hello to your new musical future.”

Felix
Felix is sprawled on the living room floor, legs stretched out in front of him as he pulls up your Spotify Wrapped on his phone. His excitement is palpable- eyes glowing, lips curved into a soft smile.
That is, until he starts scrolling.
“Baby,” he says slowly, his voice gentle but undeniably concerned. “Why is ‘Meow Meow Meow Meow’ your number one song this year?”
You blink at him from your spot on the couch. “Because it’s a bop?”
“A bop?” he echoes in a strained tone, as if the words physically pained him. He turns the phone to you, the incriminating title glowing on the screen. “It’s literally just someone meowing to 'What Was I Made For'. Why not just listen to the original version?”
“Actually it's AI.” you reply, in a matter of fact tone. “And because it’s genius. I love cats, and I love Billie. Win-win."
He tilts his head, blinking at you like you’ve just confessed to a crime. “Um...okay. Maybe Minh-hyung would like it, I guess? ‘Skibidi Toilet, Minion version’? Why is that number two?”
You shrug, trying to suppress a laugh. “It’s catchy.”
“Catchy?!” Felix’s mouth falls open as he sits up straighter, his freckled face a picture of disbelief. “Do you…do you listen to this unironically? Like...for your enjoyment rather than being funny?” His voice hold even more concern now, it wavering slightly.
“I guess you'll never know,” you reply smugly.
He groans, laying back down and holding your phone way above his face. “Let me guess, number three is-” He cuts himself off with a noise that’s somewhere between a gasp and a whimper. “Ten hours of washing machine noises?”
Now you’re laughing, tears forming in your eyes as he glares at you. “It’s calming!” you explain between giggles.
“And who’s number four?” He face morphing with increasing horror. “Laufey…cat version?”
You shrug again, biting your lip to stifle your amusement. “It’s Laufey but, you know…with meows. It’s cute!”
Felix places the phone face down on the floor, pinching the bridge of his nose like he’s fighting a migraine.
“And finally, number five. Let’s see which masterpiece you deemed worthy to round out this absolutely deranged top five.”
The moment he reads it, he freezes. His expression morphs into something unreadable- equal parts betrayal and comedic disbelief.
“KSI,” he mutters, his voice flat. He sits up slowly and releases a breath. “Behind… the washing machine and cat Laufey.” He releases his words with a click of his tongue.
You can’t hold it in anymore, bursting into uncontrollable laughter as he stares at you like you’ve just kicked his puppy.
“You’re number six, though!” you manage between gasps, tears streaming down your face. As you joined him on the floor.
Felix clasps his chest, like your words physically hurt him. “Six?! Y/N, I’ve cooked for you. I’ve baked brownies. I’ve stayed up late listening to you rant about coworkers! And I’m sixth place? Under meme songs? I mean your entire wrapped in a compilation of memes. I'm surprised Symphony didn't make it on there.”
“It’s not personal,” you tease, wiping your eyes. “It’s just Spotify.”
“Just Spotify?” he repeats incredulously, propping himself up on his elbows. “I sing you to sleep on facetime, Y/N. I text you good morning and good night every single day. And you’re telling me I lost to Skibidi Toilet?”
You crawl onto the floor next to him, wrapping your arms around his shoulders. “It’s okay, Lix,” you coo, planting a kiss on his cheek. “Maybe next year you’ll beat the washing machine.”
“Oh, I’m beating it,” he mutters, determination flickering behind his eyes. He grabs his phone, pulling up his notes app. “I’m writing a song that will sound good with Cat AI. With a bridge. And a rap section. And violins. There will be no way you won't like it."
You double over with laughter, and Felix can’t help but grin despite himself, his pout softening. “You’re lucky I love you,” he mumbles, pulling you into his lap.
“You’re my most listened to, most loved, and most wanted in real life, Lixxie.” you assure him, smiling up at him sweetly.
Felix sighs, but leans to kiss your forehead anyway. “Yeah, well, I know that.”
"Then why do you look so down, hmm?"
"Because I'm concerned, I might need to find you a therapist."

Seungmin
You sat on Seungmin’s bed, tapping through your Spotify Wrapped with a satisfied grin.
Just how you thought it'd be. Predicatable, but represntative of how your musical year went.
You were minding your business, about to share your results to insta when Seungmin sat himself on the bed next to you, snatching the phone from your hands.
The moment he saw the screen, though, Seungmin let out a surprised huff.
"Ateez?" he said slowly, his voice tinged with amusement and a slight possessiveness. You knew how he was when you stanned other Kpop groups. You had been with him for a while, of course you knew. “Oh, I get it now. You’re one of those people."
You sat up and looked at him. "What do you mean one of those people?"
Seungmin shrugged. "Its okay, you can admit that you like bands that perform like they're auditioning for a Korean rendition of Magic Mike."
Your eyes widened, but before you could protest, he fell back on the bed, holding your phone up like a damning piece of evidence.
“Don’t even try to defend yourself, Y/N,” he continued, the smirk growing on his lips. “This Wrapped is telling me everything I need to know. It’s basically the modern-day Rorschach test you know; and what it’s screaming is that you’re letting your ovulation and hormonal spikes curate your playlists. I bet you’re one of those people who stream music videos on mute, too, aren’t you? Just vibing to the abs and body rolls in crop tops.” His eyebrows quirk in curiosity.
Your jaw dropped as you threw a pillow at him, but he dodged effortlessly, tossing your phone onto the bed carelessly.
He quickly got up, maneuvering himself so he was in front of you.
“Don’t act so scandalized.” He leaned closer, his dark eyes glinting with mischief, as you leaned back slightly. “You can admit it- you like watching them dance half-naked on stage, huh? I mean, who wouldn’t? Factually speaking they’re...talented.” he said, dragging the last word with exaggerated emphasis. “Really skilled performers. Without a doubt. But it’s cute. You’ve got a thing for guys showing a little skin. It’s very...telling.” He gave you a small, smirk.
You fell back on your elbows, your face warm from his teasing, but Seungmin wasn’t done. He shifted closer, hovering inches above you, the bed dipping under his weight as he planted one arm beside you, effectively caging you in. The other hand rested on your waist.
“But here’s the real question,” he murmured, his voice dropping lower. “If you’re so into that, what are you doing here with me? Fully clothed, tragically modest... just a genius who writes incredible music and doesn’t need to flash his abs to be appealing. What a shame for you, huh?”
The corner of his lips twitched upward as he leaned even closer, the air between you charged. “Tell me, Y/N,” he whispered, his breathe tickling the shell of your ear. “Do I need to take my shirt off to compete with them? Or should I just show you what real...talent looks like? Would you like that?”
"I..." Your heart was nearly leaping out your chest, a warmth overcoming your body as Seungmin spoke. You couldn't deny how flustered you were.
"Listened to them for 1000 minutes? How 'bout I double that. You'd enjoy every second."
Your breath hitched, you, nearly caving in; but before you could respond, Seungmin nipped your ear lightly and sat back with a sly grin, leaving you flustered.
“Ah, I was right. Hormones. But don't worry,” he said lightly, brushing imaginary dust off his sleeve. “I’ll forgive you for now. But only because I find it hilarious that my perfectly curated playlists are competing with your...uh,..primal needs?” He shot you a wink, his smugness on full display.
And just like that, he stood up, stretching leisurely as if he hadn’t just thrown you into emotional- and hormonal- chaos.
With that, he walked to the door, pausing to glance back with a knowing smirk. "If you ever get bored of half-naked performances let me know. I'm here, fully clothed yet still 10 times more attractive. I could teach you what good taste in music looks like. I’d hate for your Spotify Wrapped next year to be just as embarrassing.”
He winked again, blowing you a kiss, disappearing down the hallway, leaving you a flustered, blushing mess on his bed.
(<<>><<>><<>><<>><<>><<>><<>><<>><<>><<>><<>><<>><<>><<>>)
Jeongin
You handed your phone to Jeongin, proud of your Spotify Wrapped results. “Look! Stray Kids is my number one artist.”
Jeongin barely glanced at the screen before freezing mid-scroll. His eyes darted back up to meet yours, wide with disbelief. “Wait... what?”
“Stray Kids is my number one! My boyfriend is my most listened to artist!” you repeated, grinning like it was the best news he could hear all day.
But Jeongin, to your utter confusion, looked horrified.
“No, no, no,” he muttered, shaking his head as he sat back on the couch. “This...this is all wrong. Utter sacrilege.”
“Sacrilege?” you echoed, frowning. “You’re in the group. Shouldn’t you be happy about this?”
“Y/N-ah.” Jeongin said dramatically, placing a hand over his heart as if he were physically in pain. “Do you not see what you’ve done? Look at your other top artists!” He gestured wildly to the screen. “It’s TROT. Literal legends of trot music. Song Ga In, Jang Yoon Jeong, and Na Hoon-a!”
“Yeah?” you said hesitantly, unsure of where this was going. “What about them?”
“What about them? What about them!?” Jeongin’s jaw dropped like you’d just said the sky was green. “They should be above us! Above me! Above Stray Kids! This is trot. TROT.” He pronounced it with the reverence of someone naming a sacred art form.
“But I like Stray Kids,” you said, laughing nervously.
“That’s not the point!” Jeongin stood up, pacing back and forth like a professor about to give a lecture. “Trot is timeless. It’s emotional. It’s pure, unfiltered storytelling in music. And you’re telling me you put us- a bunch of chaotic twenty-somethings who write songs about cheese and screaming—above the actual foundation of Korean music?” He stared at you as if you had 6 heads growing from you.
“It’s not like I ranked it!” you protested. “Spotify Wrapped did that for me! Blame them!”
Jeongin spun back to you, pointing an accusing finger. “Don’t blame Spotify. This is your fault Y/N-ah. You’re clearly not listening to enough trot if us noisy Gen Z - minus Channie-hyung he's like an old grandpa- beat out legends like Na Hoon-a. Do you even know how much soul that man has? How many hearts he’s broken with his voice?” He looked at you in complete seriousness. "Countless." His eyes shone with admiration.
You rolled your eyes, unable to contain your laughter now. “Innie, are you seriously upset that I listen to Stray Kids more than trot music?”
“Yes!” he declared with absolute conviction. Then, after a pause, he added, “Well...no. I mean, I love that you like our music, because that means you love me and my dream but...this is trot! It’s a different category entirely!” He threw his hands up in exasperation. “I need to fix this.”
“Fix it? Jeongin I already listen to a lot of trot. You see it on my top artists.”
He nodded solemnly, sitting back down beside you and grabbing your phone. “But you don't listen to it enough. From now on, we’re having mandatory trot listening sessions. Every week. Twice a week, actually.”
“Twice a week?” you repeated incredulously.
“At least,” he said, scrolling through your Spotify, curating a new playlist on the spot. “You need to understand why this is a crime against music. Stray Kids shouldn’t even be in the same league as these legends. We’re fun, sure, but we don’t make people cry the way trot does. I mean, do you cry when you listen to ‘Thunderous’? No. But Jang Yoon Jeong’s ‘First Marriage’ could make a grown man bawl. I'm that grown man, Y/N. I'm that grown man." He said his voice dropping to a rueful whisper.
You couldn’t stop laughing as Jeongin grew more and more animated, his passion for trot completely overshadowing any pride he might’ve felt about his own group’s success.
Finally, he looked at you with a small, satisfied smile. “Don’t worry. By next year, I’ll make sure your Wrapped is perfect. Stray Kids can stay on the list, but trot will reign supreme. It’s the least I can do for your musical education.”
“And if I still prefer you guys?” you teased, raising an eyebrow.
Jeongin huffed, pretending to think for a moment. “Then I guess I’ll forgive you...eventually. But we’re playing trot at our wedding, okay?”
You burst out laughing, shaking your head. “Jeongin, are you seriously bashing your own group right now?”
“Yah, yah,” he said, waving a dismissive hand. “They’ll understand. And if they don’t, they love me anyway. They literally wrote a whole song for me.” He smirked, looking entirely too pleased with himself.
You shook your head, still laughing. “Unreal.”
Jeongin grinned, adding a song to your new playlist.
“What’s unreal is how lucky you are to have a boyfriend who’s the best of both worlds- trot connoisseur and K-pop icon. You’re welcome.”
*edit*: but why is trot actually good...??? like i listened to it while writing this and...MYTRO...gonna stan when they debut frfr

Man people gotta have bees in their brain or didn't play the game, Heket really cares about her family. She made me regret killing Leshy, I DIDN'T KNOW HE WAS YOUNGEST UNTIL NARINDERE THATS SJAKSIHDKD SORRY *sobing*
Also what song is your favorite from the hymns of the unholy album? For me it's between CHAOS and FAMMINE
THAT'S WHAT I LOVE ABOUT THE GAME TBH I FELT SO BAD RIPPING THE FAMILY APART THE FIRST TIME. I LOVE FEELING BAD FOR ANTAGONISTS!! I PLAYED IT AROUND WHEN IT CAME OUT SO I COULDN'T EVEN REUNITE THEM IN MY FIRST CULT, THEY WERE JUST DYING IN PURGATORY FOREVER. My unholy alliance update cult is called "nepotism" where all the regular cultists live in sleeping bags, get shitty food and have to work all day while the special characters + bishops have all the good shit and just hang out drinking all day LMAO
As for the album, I still can't pick which one is my fave, it's tied between three tracks....I forgot to do my tier list I mentioned, so I'm gonna write my thoughts beneath the cut. I'm glad you mentioned famine specifically because I feel like that one is kinda slept on tbh!!! TL;DR is that heket + shamura + narinder's songs are tied for my favorites for varying reasons
In terms of what song I think should be people's introduction to the album/the most easily digestible one, definitely cult. 100% it's the one that I showed my friend + sister and they thought it sounded the best on the first listen. It's faithful to the original motif and the writing is solid. I could NOT stop listening to it when it dropped, and was so excited to hear that the one with the music video wasn't even the full version so we got more of it when the album dropped....
Chaos is the one that makes me smile when I hear it, because it's SOOO leshy. Like of COURSE his song would sound like that, with the solo at the end and him namedropping himself and saying "my horns are covered by something like fallen leaves" like he doesn't even know his own anatomy. That's SO funny, I didn't like it at first but it 100% grew on me and I love it now
Famine has the best moment out of any of the songs imo, the "make your peace, creature" part goes harder than any other single moment in the album. I feel like she was maybe done the most justice lyrically, that song has the best combination of original lyrics and lines from the game. I actually wish the other tracks were written more like hers, but maybe the fact that hers was so different is what makes me love it so much.
Pestilence is the weakest track for me personally, but I had the biggest reaction to it for the first verses alone where they immediately just use the lines where kall is being a little bitch and begging for mercy. That's the one I wish I could listen to for the first time again, it also gets stuck in my head way more often than the others for some reason
Conquest instrumentally is my favorite by far, but I'm biased cause shamura's theme song is already my favorite boss track. I already talked about why I love this one in the other post so I'll move onto the next one-
Death has the best progression by far, like it's IMPOSSIBLE not to imagine an amv while listening to it. Also the very very end where it gets really fast goes BALLISTIC and is the second-best moment of the entire album. Honestly I wasn't disappointed at any aspect of this song, I don't think I have any complaints it's 100% hype tbh
I'm very glad you sent this ask in because I wouldn't have gotten a chance otherwise to talk about this album, I'm SO feral over it and the only other music I've listened to since it came out was the new king gizzard song that just dropped (they're my favorite band and that's the only thing that could pry me from cheesy cotl metal)
#river rambles#I'm not sure what the art is from but I'm taking a moment to say it's really cute because I love bugs#and the character looks VERY bug esque

Slytherin Boys as Speak Now Songs
*in perspective of their relationship with you AND their personality. and why*
here's speak now (tv ofc), 1989 is on the way; which taylor swift album should i do next?
(mattheo riddle, draco malfoy, theo nott, lorenzo berkshire)
slytherin boys masterlist works
mattheo riddle as Better Than Revenge
best lyric(s) - "she should keep in mind there is nothing I do better than revenge" + "she underestimated just who she was stealing from"
explanation - so, as stated in ttpd version (here), mattheo has a lot of pent up frustration and anger. so he's really good at getting back at people. especially when he gets into a relationship with a partner he really cares about and they ask him not to be mean or attack people for no reason. then he has to channel all his efforts into just getting back at people who bother him. (even though sometimes bothering him is just looking at him even slightly sideways).
w/ his partner - with his partner, mattheo has absolutely no regrets or qualms about being an absolute menace to society. since he began dating them, he's been much less volatile than his normal self, but whenever people get a little too cocky and do absolutely anything at or to you, all bets are off. then mattheo feels that its necessary to step up and remind people that he's still the dark lord's son and he will be the dark lord's son if he has to.
draco malfoy as Speak Now
best lyric(s) - "don't say yes, run away now, ill meet you when you're out" + "horrified looks from everyone in the room but i'm only looking at you"
explanation - I feel like draco is the kind of guy who would totally 1000% crash your wedding if you were ever marrying someone other than him. (*I just read this theo fic abt him crashing readers wedding, ill try and find it and link it here*) But anyways, he would totally crash your wedding. like at first he would feel really bad for even thinking about it but then he would legit just stroll into the chapel like "you can't marry him, you're supposed to marry me" even if he like never mentioned anything about his feelings for you. he mentioned them in his way aka glaring at you slightly less intense than he does everyone else. how could you not notice that he was in love with you?
w a partner - def more silly and cute than anything, but i like to think that when you first started dating (esp if youre a gryff or a huffle) draco would make it his personal mission to embarrass the hell out of you by saying the most out of pocket things in front of like the other slytherins or just in the middle of class as loudly as possible. he just likes to see the little blush on your cheeks whenever he says something that he most definitely should not be saying out loud.
theodore nott as Electric Touch
best lyric(s) - "all I know is this could either break my heart or bring it back to life" + "I'm tryin hard not to look like I'm trying"
explanation - theo is that guy thats scared of commitment. (sorry to all the theo girlies me included but we gotta admit it at some point). it's not that he doesn't care about his partner, it's just that he's terrified of commitment. there's way too much that could go wrong. he learned very early on that you could do everything right, love someone completely, treat them wonderfully, and then they could just die. but bc his mother passed at such a young age he has a very distorted point of view on this because in his head, he's like but what if they just die???
w/ a partner - that being said, when theo finds that person that's like the one for him, he wants to commit so bad. and he puts all of his effort into it, like he'll call you his girlfriend, he'll spend an exorbitant amount of money on you, he'll even buy you a damn ring, but he won't let you get emotionally close to him. and it kind of freaks him out when he finds himself wanting you to know him in that way. when you finally confront him about one day and he's like, what if you just like died?? and you're just sitting there across from him like '...'
theo, wtf? i'm not just gonna like keel over one day.
after that he kind of lets you in a little and after a few months when he's sure you're not just gonna suddenly fall over, then he's completely fine and continues on like nothing ever happened. (its a little amusing in the hindsight of it all)
lorenzo berkshire as Dear John
best lyric(s) - "don't you think 19's too young to be played by your dark twisted games" + "cause you burned them out, but I took your matches before fire could catch me"
explanation - I don't think it's really talked about enough how much emotional support that enzo needs. his own family aside, he still grew up around death eaters and that surely cannot be healthy for a guy. so when he finally is an adult, i like to think that he looked into some kind of therapy option wizard, muggle, or otherwise. i think that he probably also struggled a little with the friends that he lost during the entire ordeal that he wishes he could've saved (almost like survivor's guilt)
w a partner - so when it comes to a partner, i really think that he needs someone who sees him. that's really important to him that he's with someone that he could just let go with and not have to worry about always being either grinning or stonefaced. He'd like to be able to feel his entire range of emotions without hindrance and he's only really gonna feel safe to do that with a partner.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY ROGER TAYLOR
It is Roger Meddows Taylor's birthday today so of course I have to make it all of yours problems and yap about it.
We've gotta start off with how talented this man is. He is the KING of drummers in my eyes and will always be. Watched a full concert today to celebrate, and I was just focusing on how fast he could move, and he wasnt always looking at the drums. And his little solo in the Montreal concert and I was staring at him and oh my gosh he can move fast. He looked tired afterwards. And his voice is amazing in its own unique way. I love it. I love listening to live songs and looking out for his baking vocals. I died everytime. My favourite song to hear live is Crazy Little Thing Called Love just because of Roger's rEaDy FreDdIe 🤠. I die every single time I hear and go insane you don't even know. His backing vocals are just *mwah* CHEF'S kiss 🤌.
And his high pitched screaming in In the Lap of the Gods is amazing. Theres a video of Roger Taylor blessing your ears for an hour and a half and it's just him screaming in that song and it really does bless your ears.
Plus he's got solo albums. And unless I'm horribly wrong, he has the most solo albums out of the entire band. I don't have a favourite album but a couple of my fav songs are The Key, Man on Fire and Strange Frontier.
He's written lots of hits and great songs including Radio Gaga, A Kind of Magic, One Vision, These are the Days of Our Lives, The Invisible Man and of course, I'm in Love With My Car.
Then there's the underrated songs that I love like Drowse, Action This Day, Ride the Wild Wind and others that I forgot and I cant be bothered to look up.
He also studied dentistry in uni. I don't know if he would have actually ended up being a dentist if he hadn't joined. But just think if he did.
THIS MAN RIGHT HERE COULD HAVE BEEN YOUR DENTIST SHOVING HIS HANDS IN YOUR MOUTH.
I just watched a video while writing this called the genius of Roger Taylor and they talked about how good he is on drums and used drum talk that even though I play drums, I haven't been playing long enough to understand, so they go into more depth on how talented he is on the drums. Its called The Genius Of Roger Taylor by Drumeo.
And you've gotta talk about his heart warming lyrics.
"With my hand on my grease gun,
Ooooo it's like a disease son."
Magical.
And what makes that even better is that sometimes during concert he would mix the lyrics around, whether on accident or purpose, I don't know, but he would say "with YOUR hand on MY grease gun." Life changing.
But seriously you wanna know some good lyrics listen to the whole of These Are The Days of Our Lives. And then try not to cry.
Moving on from talent, we gotta talk about some more amazing things about him.
He's a funny little boy. Watch some clips of him and you'll see what I mean. I don't care if you don't agree with me, I know he's a funny little boy.
"He threw my best fucking pair of maracas. Great sounding maracas, took me HOURS to steal them, and he just..." I can't write the next part without it seeming like it's a roleplay because it's a motion he makes of throwing stuff away in the air.
Anyways, it was his idea to dress up in drag for the I Want to Break Free video and that was one of his best ideas ever. Rogerina looked amazing.
What a goddess. And when I Want to Break Free got canceled in America, he would help stand up for the video and wouldnt feel ashamed that they did it and said they had a great time and it was fun.
And somewhat similarly, but more importantly, after Freddie died, and the press were being homophobic perverts and saying stuff like Freddie had it coming, or he lived a promiscuous life style, Roger (and Brian) would go on TV and stand up for Freddie and would be like "thats not true at all, you fucking pricks." That's not what they actually said. And he would then go on about how the press were massive dicks to Freddie while trying to get into his private life especially towards the end.
Hes adorable. Sweetie. My love.
"I'd like to make it.. naked 😏, and raw."
"1 and 3/7ths sugars please." "No one and 3/7ths 😠"
"I've just written this new one, WHICH IM REALLY EXCITED ABOUT"
"ITS PERFECT"
Just some quotes there.
Also, APPARENTLY, my sources are shit, I've only heard this once, has not been backed up, but I'm including it anyways, but apparently when Roger wasn't allowed to have Stone lions out the front of his house, he thought outside the box and put up hundreds of glow and the dark gnomes.
He also apparently had to legally fight his neighbour to keep his giant statue of Freddie Mercury he had in his backyard because the neighbour APPARENTLY thought that it was "rUiNinG tHe laNdScApe"
He kissed Brian when he was drunk.
He was called sex on legs.
Grew a beard because people kept mistaking him as a girl.
His eyes.
"There was lots of sex and drugs. Actually there wasn't that much sex and ... Well there wasn't much drugs"
There's also some lovely sad stories with him. Mainly the 300 yards and I don't feel like crying again so I'm not gonna write it out.
I'm gonna stop this here because my finger feels weird from having a plaster on it for three days and I wanna focus on more Roger videos that I've been watching in the background for about an hour now. I'm just gonna say he is shemxy.
And then you've got this:
Love him. Appreciate him. I'm gonna marry him one day, mark my words.
There is a lot more on him. This is all I've got. For now.

welcome to excesstv, SAVANNAH ROSE OVALLES — or should i say the GRIT AND GLITZ? … a quick google search tells me you’re a TWENTY SEVEN year old SINGER who’s worth 12M. you've called avalon home for SIX MONTHS, however something tells me there’s more to you than a flashy resume and penthouse 19B on your door ? it seems you’ve managed to earn a reputation around the city for being PASSIVE, yet, upon further investigation it seems you're also quite CHARMING. but hey, thats the kind of mix that keeps people guessing. i'm sure as a PISCES you're used to people commenting on your VANILLA SCENTED PERFUME / EYES SHADOWED WITH AMBITION AND DETERMINATION, A STAR SHINING IN THE DARK WITH OWN GRAVITY, HANDWRITTEN LYRICS FILLING IN MARGINS OF NOTEBOOKS, A SUBTLE MYSTERY. but still we can't wait to watch you flourish ( or fail ) these next few weeks …

despite what others may believe, life for savannah ovalles hasn’t always been as sweet. in fact, it was quite the opposite. a mother who bailed on her family when savannah was merely fives year old, a father who cared more about his next bottle than his kids and her brother – who had been her rock through everything – passing away when she was sixteen years old. it seemed like she was constantly being hit with brick after brick and her only means of escape was writing in her journal. song lyrics about her life, her dreams and everything in between. it was an outlet for her and always had been. it was when she turned seventeen that savannah finally grew sick and tired of her life, her home, her horrible father. all it took was one bad, and final, dispute between the two did savannah pack her things up and go: no longer wanting to hold onto anything that new orleans had. honestly, she never wanted anything to do with that city. she’s always known that she deserved better than the life she had — her brother constantly reminding her of that when he was live — and now she’d hit her wits end. savannah wanted nothing more than to be somebody. anybody. a completely different person than who she was currently. the journey hadn’t been an easy one, but she fought her way through. moving to los angeles, working part time jobs and going to every single record company that she could find until someone finally decided to give her a chance. by the end of that year and immense hard work, the brunette managed to get her first album out: everything seemed to go uphill from there. 2024 being her biggest year yet — moving to new york, selling out arenas, more people knowing her name and she’s basking in it. though, there are people that know of her that are constantly bringing her past into the forefront but savannah refuses to discuss any of it. she won’t talk about her mother, her father and only speaks about her brother: telling everyone that he’s the reason she’s where she’s at today.

Do you think we'll get more frank solo stuff in the near(ish) future?
yes! i think 1) frank never stops writing, he's talked many times that he needs it to live. so even if he's been doing dunes and he enjoys beeing less than front and center, i know that he also writes lyrics bc it really doesn't feel like frank solo lyrics are something he wrote in order to put out albums, they're very real and heartbreaking and soul crushing. and i know that hes still got that in him and even if hes not releasing it he still writes it to get it out so does he have lyrics in a notebook somewhere? yes. and also we know he's a creative, he keeps writing music and guitar parts whether or not they;re being used for dunes. im POSITIVE that he writes stuff thats not for dunes and tucks it away.
and besides all of that, the fact that i know he writes stuff outside of dunes, and dunes as confirmed to us more than once that they would go on without a member or whatever if they had to be filled in (solo or mcr or whatever!) they could do that! and its happened even recently when frank had to go home for familiy reasons.
and ALSO so in conclusion the stomachaches 10 year anniversary is in august. and yes frank has august and some of sept free from touring.AND ALSO why have dunes finished the album and are not releasing it until NEXT YEAR??? thats so weird. they said that in may. why would you do that. so i do think frank may have stomachaches smal shows planned for that time period :) at least i hope and pray!!!!

More of me running my mouth about music as inspiration except this time its just Dear Wormwood
Prelude. Prelude. PRELUDE. This is probably just a music nerd thing but its so perfect. Despite my horrible understanding of music theory, a prelude is usually the first piece of music that is meant to represent the succeeding and usually longer movements in a single work, but they could also stand alone. The Prelude to Dear Wormwood works as both. It starts out quiet before building up with just absolutely amazing wordless vocals and its just so great folks. Its a summary of the whole album in a minute and nine seconds its amazing folks
Okay Bitter Water. The first time I heard this one I thought oh, its a metaphor for alcoholism. Yes, it can be a metaphor for alcoholism, but it is also so much more. In the broader context of Dear Wormwood its an acknowledgement of how bad a relationship is and that the singer, the victim, feels like they can never escape it, but it can be so much more folks. It can be a about a love lost, with the one who lost the love pining and wasting away without their soulmate. Said soulmate could be a part of the griever themself. It can be so much. Its also a banger but thats a given for the whole album. “terrible fire of old regret is honey on my tongue” is also eternally amazing this whole thing is poetry mates
There Beneath. Calm and flowy and existential kind of but I make a lot of things existential and where were we? But also the line “I saw the morning lead a cavalcade” is bloody amazing. Its such a great and poetic way to describe the breaking dawn, the rising sun, the beginning of a new day and so many other things mates its amazing. Like a veteran adventurer recalling the times when their friends got them out of hard scrapes or something idk
In the Blue Hours of the Morning. It’s a nice waypoint, a chance to catch your breath before the next song which I will go off about but this bit is really just like its title. The time before the cavalcade, when theres still enough light to see by yet its so calm and still and not quite awake yet
Exeunt, which is. It is. Well, exactly what it says on the tin, an exeunt, which is a stage direction for when an actor goes off stage, but its also the most poetry ever. Everyone loves “Fluttering your lashes like ashes and ember” and rightfully so but everything in that song is so bloody strong. “Crocodile eyes I have seen how you hunger”???? “No I cannot trust what you say when youre grieving”????? Like its such a powerful song with all the musicians going ham on the everything and then the lyrics and then the context? Its great its just great
Caesar. A calm follow-up to the headbanger that is Exeunt, but its no less amazing. Im just drowning in symbolism for this one mates. Not only is the morning back and breaking over a palisade but also historical references!?! The backlogs of random anecdotes and stories are tickled awake by the “Look to the sky where the sign will be shown” bit so much like it aint even funny. Its a reference to Constantine the Great, who saw the symbol of the Chi Rho and went on to become roman emperor with it painted on his shields and its so much potential in just three stanzas
This Will End. Fellows this one just hurts. Its so bloody sad and yet such a strangely jaunty tune like the singer has just accepted their sad life and Im always like no! It can get better! You just gotta try a bit! Mates! Im bleeding out!
Pale White Horse. Ohhhhhhhhhh I can get so deep about Pale White Horse but so much of it is about WWI and the Spanish Flu Epidemic and other stuff I do not care to dredge from the depths of my historical brain fluids but its so great as a thing about war and trauma and abuse and so much other stuff just like recognizing someone doing something terrible and that can be either interpreted as oh thats conformation that they were always terrible or oh goodness thats not possible why no why are you like this you are not like this right and there’s no in between. And both hurt!
Where Is Your Rider. Enough metaphors to fill a graveyard (hey Crane Wives fans. Hey. Did you get it? Eh? Idk I thought it was funny) and then some but also oooooh the lines just go so hard sometimes. “But these bones never rested while living / So how can they stand to languish in repose”???????? Like mate youre dead but youre still going to push on and keep on fighting mates it hurts it hurts too much there are too many characters and situations and just stray thoughts I can peg to these two lines alone help
Soldier, Poet, King. Need I say more? Yes, I need to say more. Everyone above and below knows how bloody legendary this song is but take this as a sign to listen to it again. Its just that good. Someone once tired and broken who has found support and is coming back to finish the job they couldnt finish on their own is just oooooooooooooogh mates. Also funny ha ha DND party. Two sides of the same polyhedral dice. Probably a d100 with all the nonsense I can drag out of it at this point.
Dear Wormwood. The album namer. UGH I cannot get enough of this one. Just some of the lines in this one mates. “And in my hour of weakness / You were there to see me fail”???????? “I know who I am now / I know who I wanna be / I wanna be more than / That devil inside of me”??????????????????? Its just so perfect and so amazing and it gives you a warn hug and it punches you in the gut and it helps you up and gives you hot tea and the works mates its just so great
Danse Macabre. One last instrumental. A Danse Macabre was usually a piece of art with people dancing next to skeletons, representing the inevitability of death and the equality in the grave and so many other sad and mopey things but also its just such a fun jig. It really does feel like a bunch of spooky scary skeletons jamming on their graves. And that’s a one liner I never thought Id need to write.
Thus Always to Tyrants. Bloody hell this is the perfect ending song. The singer immediately starting off with “Let me die, let me drown, leave my bones in the ground”, proclaiming themselves free of the worries and pains they started the album with, singing as the blazing sun rises that yes, they are, if not happy now, then at least better now, and that anyone who threatens that will face the new and improved them is just ooooooogh. Mates. If theres one song you need to listen to if you somehow made it to the end of this thingie without also being obsessed with the Oh Hellos, its Thus Always to Tyrants. But please listen to the whole of Dear Wormwood first. It makes the impact so much better.
#me running my mouth#the oh hellos#dear wormwood#i just needed to get out. some. not all. of my thoughts about this bloody legendary album#im gonna do more#probably#theres so much i can say about. uh. most of the songs i listen to regularly#if theres gonna be another one then itll probably be through the deep dark valley#or maybe that one about coyote stories ive already started but that thing is more specific and also sad to read since its about sad stuff#like climate change and capitalism and such#but it will be finished eventually

all my ttpd notes on each song before public opinion (overall opinion of the album at the end)
i didnt include tracks 1-6 bc ive posted about them already, but ill add them slowly by eod tomorrow most likely
fresh out the slammer
this is the track i was most excited for i think
oh title drop very early
fresh. out. the slammer. uhhh
i love the flow on all of the songs but i especially like this, its very fluid
FOR JUST ONE HOUR OF SUNSHINE!!!
in the shade of how he was feeling
the flow is very midnight rain i think
OOOH THE CHANGE AT 2:25 I LOVE THISSSSS
"im the girl of his american dreams" OMGGGG
i like the second half way better but the song is awesome
i think what im noticing about the album overall (so far) is it feels very empty production wise. its mostly her voice carrying it through but its hollow and i really think we need a more full production on this, or at least some parts of it. it feels uneven yk? or sort of unfinished, like she had the vocals and just slapped something behind it
florida!!!
VERY VERY EXCITED FOR THIS FLORENCE!!!!!!
and my friends all smell like weed or little babies.... ok.
okkkk less than a minute in and this is sooo anti-capitalist for a billionaire
FLORENCE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i was so scared she'd be swept aside
"all my girls got their lace and their crimes"
so many mentions of a cheating husband on this album
"is that a bad thing to say in a song?" I LOOOOOVE MENTIONS OF THE MEDIA IN THAT MEDIA
FLORIDAAAA!! IS ONE HELL OF A DRuug..........
you can kind of here the thinness (??) of taylor's voice next to florence, the depth is lacking -- not necessarily bad, just something you can hear more with this track
some parts of it ("little did you know...") sound sort of like everybody wants to rule the world, idk if thats just me
guilty as sin
love the production this is so niceee
am i allowed to cry!
"oh what a way to dieeeee"
MESSY TOP LIP KISS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
without ever touching his skin, how can i be guilty as sin............ is this about matty healy please
the quiet distorted "what?" in the bg is very bejeweled
my bedsheets are ablaze
the melody on this is lowkey kind of boring. theres points where i expect her to do something interesting with her voice and flick up or drop low or trill and it just doesnt happen. would be very cool if that was there
"long suffering propriety" that whole bridge is written well but sung so clunky? like it doesnt sound natural it sounds like syllable filler yk? and i know this bc i do it way too much KSJDCHIUHRFIUH
ending with am i allowed to cry, its very much an internal song. idk how to explain it but shes looking in, and when she says am i allowed to cry, shes looking up. <- what???
whos afraid of little old me?
ooooh it starts out so cunty
"my bare hands paved their paths"
you dont get to tell me about sad!
I LOVE THISSS its so mad woman its so rep coded
"i leap from the gallows and i levitate down your street" GREAT LYRIC HILARIOUS VISUAL ITS LIKE THAT HALLWAY MEME BUT WITH TAYLOR. hold on
okay
WHOS AFRAID OF LITTLE OLD ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! you should be <- ME TO MY MOM
production goes off cunty as fuck
"the scandal was contained" OMGG TELL ME TELL ME
you dont get to tell me you feel bad variant
BRIDGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i think this is my favorite track i love it
"the circus life made me mean" ooooh very very interesting. i will analyze this song more fully later but not on this post
"tell me everything is not about me, what if it is?" OKAYYYYY
the way she sings "you should be" reminds of something on folklore/evermore but i cant think of what
shes very cool on this song. the emotion actually comes through.
"you wouldnt last an hour in the asylum where they raised me." oh okay! so like. have we considered not saying that.
i think that line turned me off the whole song KJSDCIUERFHIUEFH LIKE???? HELLO???????
i just. hm. very disappointed. you have one billion dollars. your parents put down the deposit for your career. ok.
the way she sings "wretched" and "narcotics" is what i wanted for more of the album. ykwim.

"when your impressionist paintings of heaven turned out to be fakes" i think this is my favorite lyricism out of the album, its very natural its very clear its very real. i really really like it
A CONMAN SELLS A FOOL A GET LOVE QUICK SCHEME. GAGGED
some of it is very grieving that she didnt last with her first love, that she still has to work for it. but its also still feeling like a metaphor for religious beliefs and god, that she cant fully believe and she wishes she had unwavering faith
MR STEAL YO GIRL????????????
"talking rings and talking cradles"
i wish i could unrecall how we almost had it all

YOU CRASHED MY PARTY AND YOUR RENTAL CAR
you kicked out the stage lights but youre still performing.
"you are what you did" versus innocent's "who you are is not where you've been"
i like this track
the alchemy
I WAS SUPER EXCITED FOR THIS BUT NOW IDK HOW TO FEEL!!! idk im just jumping in
oh r&b production?? interesting....
ooh whats the rumbling thing i like that

SORRY i dont like how she says eclipse lmaoo
i kind of dont vibe with all the small town references its as if she needs to remind us where she came from to be considered good like look how much i did when i came from nothing (even though she didnt)
YOU LOOK LIKE TAYLOR SWIFT IN THIS LIGHT !!!!
youve got edge, she never did girlllllllllll
so does she consider herself the "replacement" for clara bow?
song is okay i think it might grow on me. i think the biggest disappointment on this album is how predictable it all feels sonically.
the black dog
bonus track!! this is the only one i have so i might add the others later but tbh i might wait bc i dont know how much i. care.
muted pianooooo i love muted piano<333
YOU SHARED YOUR LOCATION AND FORGOT TO TURN IT OFF
oh the black dog is a bar. im kind of. okay. okay
"shes too young to know this song" is a nice line but its clunky how its sung
old habits die screaming!
girl your longing does NAWT stay unspoken
folklore when she used "big" words it felt natural (for the most part). here it feels performative? like it doesnt FIT naturally
"was it hazing for a cruel fraternity i pledged" idk how to feel about this!
lots and lots of smoke references!
"six weeks of breathing clean air" -> CLEAN!!!!!!!!!!
two times she says she wants to burn her clothes on this album
i like the production im literally kind of ignoring the lyrics
omg never mind "tail between your legs youre leaving"
personal ick but i hate when songs cut off in a word. she goes "old habits die screeeeeam-" and nothing. JUST SAY THE -ING
okay cool. mid song but i hope the swifties who thought it was about depression and got the variant are feeling okay<33
overall: idk about this album. i went in really excited and so maybe thats why i feel so let down... but i feel so let down. this isnt what was marketed, this isnt anything even real for a lot of it. she's all over the place and i dont think its a tight and solid album -- although monetarily it will obviously look like one. there are moments where we get something very her and very real and i think those moments save the album. the production is also a little all over the place, and so very nothing. im not asking her to do anything fresh or new but why would you market it as if it was and not deliver?
i liked florida!!!, loml, and i can do it with a broken heart -- i think clara bow, the alchemy, and some others (you can tell with my notes LOL) will grow on me. and the tortured poets department and my boy only breaks his favorite toys were good songs, but i think i need a few days to actually acknowledge them as such.
also i think lyrically shes done a few very interesting things. it almost feels like debut with how specific it is and the name dropping and everything -- however it is new/rusty for her so that also kind of hurts her overall. i think maybe this is like good practice for a more evolved narrative lyricism in the future, bc her past mo of hazy visuals and thinly connected moments to string into a narrative just doesnt work anymore.
i will say. she did make me experience all 5 stages of grief plus some fun extras. maybe not in the way she wanted, but i did anyway ! its a fun album and i def think ill like it more as time goes on, but this is my opinion without outside influence and within the first day of listening -- i want to see how that changes! im also holding off on album rankings until a week or two passes
#ALRIGHT WHO WANT ME !#a lot of times my initial reaction to a song is very different from how i feel about it as i keep listening so trust NOTHING i say kdsjfhie#(regarding rankings and favorites not the notes)#and with taylor you have to let the songs grow on you#taylor swift#the tortured poets department#ttpd#the tree speaks

Yesterday I was listening to music while on a car-ride when Cryoshells Room came up on my playlist and relistening to it again made me realize how great it is. The chord progression and melody are beautiful, the instrumentation is great, Christines singing is geniunely amazing here and the lyrics are really good portrayal of how complex emotions towards someone. I'd argue Room is one of the objectively best tracks Cryoshell has done, if not the best.
Yet in spite of Rooms quality it is extremely underrated when it comes to Cryoshells discography. I rarely see it being discussed when it comes to their best songs, in spite of arguing it easily being one of them. And while that saddens me, its not like I dont understand the reason why this is the case.
Room is one of the few Cryoshell songs that aren't Bionicle related in the slightest.
As being a band created to promote it, Cryoshell by its very nature is tied to Bionicle. Even if the band has continued on after the franchises end, the two are still interlinked with one another.
And there definitely is a lot good in this. Because of Cryoshells connection with a popular nostalgic IP, it has been allowed to live and not fade into obscurity. Many Bionicle fans fondly reminsce of Cryoshell and even become fans of the band.
However for all the good the correlation brings, theres a dark side to it. And thats that Cryoshell is essentially pidgeonholed to be "the Bionicle band". Its identity is so tied to Bionicle that fans often treat Cryoshell as an extension of Bionicle rather than its own separate thing. And this shows in the way people talk about Cryoshells post Bionicle tracks.
Think about it. Whenever you get to the comment section of a Cryoshell track, you see people comparing the track to Bionicle even if it wasnt made for it. Murky, Falling, Come to My Heaven, even their more recent Next to Machines stuff like Don't look down or Dive often gets associated with Bionicle by the fanbase. Because Cryoshell is the Bionicle band, and thus it must come back to Bionicle. Always.
So, when it comes to the songs that dont fit Bionicle at all, they often get overlooied and ignored. Theres a few exceptions (Feed has the most views of any non Bionicle track on their 2010 album while Slipping has most views on their Next To Machines era stuff) but this mostly is true. Songs like Trigger, No More Words, Nature Girl or Faux get either forcefully associated with Bionicle or outright ignored by the fanbase.
And Room has the worst of it all. With most Cryoshell songs you can loosely tie them to Bionicle even if its a stretch (No More Words being read as a song about Makutas defeat anyone?) But with Room you cannot just do that. The songs identity is deeply tied to it being about codependency and toxic emotions towards someone, seeing someone as both a savior and a monster, that you can't divorce it from it. And since that type of story the song tells isnt really present in Bionicle, the song cant be tied to it. Which makes it just left out in the dust.
I love Cryoshell, I love Bionicle and I love their connection to each other. But can we sometimes just treat Cryoshell as a band of its own right rather than always try to tie it to the funny Lego robot brand? Thank you.

rant (i’m so normal. so so so normal /j (oh i noticed i use /j like i would a /silly uhh. i never dem /silly much but yeah most of the time i mean that as im yeah,, im joking around and being silly)) ->
on a topic of will wood: id have to say,, in the battle for #1 favorite song by him (on the playlist i have) would be The Song With Five Names and BlackBoxWarrior
i love the spoken dialogue in BlackBoxWarrior and when i looked up the meaning behind the lyrics on genius lyrics it was like AUGH. OUW. relatable. (song is more about mental illness but i relate to it w my chronic illness A LOT). like cmon— “Holistic ballistics, you got a better idea? / It's about the best we could come up with, what, you think ideas spread because they're good? / No, they spread because people like them / So now here we are once again, holding / As it were, a mirror up to your mirror / I guess it's just something people do-“ WHEN I ACTUALLY LOOKED UP THE MEANING BEHIND THAT I WAS LIKE. OKAY THATS FAMILIAR, I KNOW THAT. AND THE EMOTION IN IT??? WHEN YOU LISTEN TO IT??? (my personal experience. i hate doctors and being told that they can’t do anything to help.)
w TSWFN (im not typing the entire name- it actually has 5 names—), it features a bit of the songs on the album Self-Ish (like the shovel part with Hand Me My Shovel, I’m Going In) AND I LOVE THE OVERLAPPING VOICES AND THE BACKGROUND VOCALS LIKE AIGH. ifk if it has some of the motifs(? idk uh) as other songs bc i’m bad w recognizing sometimes. my fav part has to be uhmm. the entire stanza of “i noticed that the sunshine is a gaslight /… / it’s good enough but not enough to be good enough for me!!” and then the drop into the next stanza??? (idk how you call song parts what’s a bridge hhfryffr) MWAH. AMAZING.
i love all of the others but those two have to be my absolute favs. the others are favorites for separate reasons bc they all have different reasons why I LOVE THEM!! i just want to put on headphones and turn the volume as high as i can. on my laptop probably bc the volume is sm better there.
sorry i just. (live photo of xi?? listening to music he likes??? WOAH!!)
anyways i wanted to talk about it bc i went to start my review and then got distracted listening to music ;-;
thats u irl???!!! holy moly :0
i dont know will wood so i cant respond to much of this but. i hope that u know. i am eating this up like a 5 course meal please please please continue to rant at me abt will wood. i want to study you (also getting distracted by music is SO REAL!!!)

ok i know this is played out but i wanna touch on how music is generally seen as one of the most socially acceptable art forms. it is impossible to live as a human and escape music, its everywhere. however, that really doesnt mean that music is upheld as an art worth discussing.
id say its pretty fair to point out poetry and music are fairly similar mediums. they cross over all the time, and the distinction of the two is more of a matter of subjective taste than concrete lines. something interesting ive found with poetry is that its not as easily accessible by the masses as music - why not? much of poetry is melodic or could be easily transformed into song. the iambic pentameter is infamous for its specificity when it comes to syllables, very akin to how lyrics in music must conform to certain tempos or become a noisy cacophony.
the kendrick vs drake beef has brought the idea of music being poetic back into the mainstream. i say "back into" but any kendrick fan can tell you that hes always incorporated poetic devices into his lyrics and instrumentals to illustrate the theme of his song/album better. its fun! its a way for him to showcase his skills while also making the music a participatory act for the audience. almost like a scavenger hunt, you know everything is THERE, its up to you to find WHERE. however, the beef has far surpassed kendrick and drake fans, hiphop/rap fans, and has become a discussion point for those who have absolutely no background in these mediums. this is not a diss, its an acknowledgement that for those of us who have and do revere music as an artform, a lot of the talking points can come off as very beginner - because they are, they're made by beginners who are finding their foothold in this new world, just like we all did at one time whether we were 5 or 50 when we first started.
disclaimers aside, my grievances aren't with the people intrigued by accusations. i mean, i dont like 2010 pop very much but if katy perry called pink a pedophile you bet your ass id have tuned the fuck in. im not even sure if thats a comparable accusation, as i think katy perry was more popular than pink? i dont know, you get my point. the accusations are more indicative of the system they're both existing in than kendrick saying this one guy sucks and if we get rid of him and his groupies hollywood will be rainbows sunshine and happiness forever. like, we should still get rid of him, but the systems in place that let drake rise to the level hes at and profit so widely from the communities he claims to represent wont disappear with him, they'll just find the next drake, or taylor swift, or james corden, literally fucking whoever fits the mold they need them to fit into, and if they dont, then adapt to the mold assigned to them. the system continues, the gears keep turning.
i dont even want to talk about the beef necessarily, though i do want to talk about the two songs meet the grahams and Not Like Us. meet the grahams was the heavy-hitter. the one that got everyone talking. Not Like Us was the chaser. a sweeter mixture to dull out the bitterness in the audience's mouth. there's been more controversy about the lyricism in Not Like Us than meet the grahams, and i find that it comes from a lack of understanding of what artforms really are - communicative devices. they're not trying to TELL you something, as something like a report or spreadsheet would with its analysis of sourced data, but it's trying to make you EXPERIENCE something. you can hear the sentence "Treat others the way you want to be treated." all your life, but if you've never experienced a situation where you need others to treat you with the same humanity they hold for themselves, it's a lot less impactful.
Not Like Us showcases exactly what kendrick lamar has already shown us repeatedly: he not only understands people, but he knows how to get through to them. meet the grahams will inevitably go down as one of the most vicious disstracks of all times, yes, but who's bumping that shit? nobody. its not supposed to be bumped. people discuss how it sounds very eerie and frightening, and its SUPPOSED. TO. BE. the instrumentals weren't picked for no reason. the unintelligible yelling in the background? purposeful. the vocals of kendrick going in and out of rage, of him simultaneously saying he wants drake dead and also that he wants him to improve himself by going through ego dissolution? purposeful. this is not just kendrick showing his own emotions regarding the scenario, he's priming the audience to be on his side by proactively aligning himself with their emotions - which leads me to Not Like Us.
okay. like, even the title you see it clearly. Not Like Us. kendrick, even before the song begins, has the audience creating an Us VS Them dichotomy with drake and his crew. kendrick also doesnt define a clear 'us' within the song - he does directly call out drake's culture vulturism in his music, but notice how deliberate he is with it. kendrick points out how drake uses "the people" to get himself a larger paycheque. that is, purposefully, relatable to every working class person regardless of race or location. he uses specific black people in his examples because of drake's anti-blackness, and while he mentions drake being half white in a few of his songs his criticism is always very carefully cushioned by the fact that kendrick DEFENDS drake's white half. he says hes a culture vulture for profiting off of such an important artform made by and for black america, yes, but he also points out that the inauthenticity towards his mother's side of the family and his nationality as canadian is pathetic and disloyal. he SPECIFICALLY MENTIONS how drake lied about his religious views not because kendrick hates the jews secretly but because DRAKE CAN'T PROFIT OFF OF BEING JEWISH THE SAME WAY HE CAN BEING BLACK. that's why he doesn't claim being jewish as hard as he does being black, if the inverse was true i doubt drake would EVER try to 'fit in' to the hip-hop crowd, in the same way he rarely if ever mentions his upbringing in a jewish household.
this is very important and VERY strategic of kendrick. he CANNOT be making enemies in this stage. kendrick has been banking on this reaching far past hip-hop/rap crowds. drake is fluid and, to the core, mainstream. therefore, kendrick NEEDS his lyricism to be just as easily approachable. think about the difference between kendrick's double entendres. "Tryna strike a chord and it's probably A Minor" has been a joke since, probably literally the day we quantified the concept of chords in music theory. some people criticize the line because of that, accusing kendrick of being a hack for using such an easy joke. what they dont understand is, THE JOKE HAD TO BE EASY. it had to simultaneously be easy to access for the general public and also still somewhat biting. kendrick already planted the seeds of drake being a pedophile in meet the grahams, and he's reaping his harvest by dropping that line and "Certified Loverboy, Certified Pedophile". they not only dont have to be clever, THEY CAN'T BE. they can't be more clever than what the layman would gather with one listen, they're his hooks in the song.
some people use Not Like Us as kendrick stepping up to the dick measuring contest on drake's terms. "oh, you think you so good cause you can write something that'll get em jumping? not only can i do that, i can do it BETTER." and i do agree with them! Not Like Us was incredibly well thought-out. it gives us basically no new information, but it doesnt need to, Not Like Us owes its purpose to beating people over the head with a few of the concepts addressed in euphoria. and meet the grahams, yes, and also to prime the audience against drake, yes, and also to show the audience that anything drake does you can get somewhere else and done better, YES! even the beat is produced by DJ Mustard, whose works are both familiar to rap fans, and widely loved. DJ Mustard producing it reinforces the Us VS Them. i mean, even casual listeners of rap have heard the notorious tag "Mustard on the beat, ho!".
im not going to claim this hasnt been pointed out before, i havent seen it, but im sure it has. kendricks discography has primed old fans to indulge in every lyric to make sure no nuance is missed. i dont think kendricks artistry has been in doubt once the entire time this beef has been widely popular. so it seems a little silly then, to start this goddamn dissertation off with a criticism of how music isnt treated with the same consideration by its fans like how a similar artform, poetry, is. and thats because... well, 1: music is way more popular than poetry, like i said. and that leads into 2: people dont recognize music as... important.
some music is. that's true. i mean, remember during the pandemic when celebrities were singing john lennon's Imagine from their mansions while the working class were dying from completely preventable causes? we can say what we will about that era, and oh boy do i have a lot to say, but it does prove that we on some level acknowledge the impact of music. why else choose a song? why not literally just say the words, or words to that impact? because music is better? well, no. people say impactful shit everyday - sans music. Inspirational speeches are a type of communication basically always devoid of music and yet they serve very similar purposes. so, no. music isnt always better. in fact, during the situation i outlined above, i could not think of anything WORSE than breaking into a little tune and jig. there is some tact necessary.
music, however, does excel in one thing inspirational speeches don't: community. this may make little sense, because inspirational speeches are notorious for being purposeful in their bonding of individuals into one united movement. but i want you to consider this: what role does the speaker hold? in inspirational speeches, they're on the same side as the crowd, yes, but they tend to hold some position above or differing from them. a figurehead or trusted authority figure to a movement. they're fighting for the same thing, but they're in a unique position to the crowd.
think about music in that same concept. the singer doesnt tend to hold that same difference. how could it? the audience sings along, the audience dances, the audience taps their foot or bobs their head, whatever participation is included, its necessary. kendrick's Not Like Us, no matter how eloquently reworked, would have NEVER gained the same traction as an inspirational speech. it would make kendrick seem too different from the masses. it would remind us that... he's a celebrity too. he isn't working class. he isn't the one getting affected most by drake's culture vulturism, misogyny, or alleged pedophilia. which would then ask the question: well... why didnt he point this out earlier?
some people are still asking that question, which i think does hold merit. kendrick lamar is not our friend. he has done amazing things for his community and black americans at large and we absolutely cannot discredit that, but kendrick lamar could personally fund my lifestyle forever and that still wouldn't mean i know him or his mindset. he is much more impactful to me because a lot of his songs about growing up in poverty or in crime-ridden environments resonate with my own upbringing, and hearing his experiences heightens that level of relatability because kendrick DID experience what he's writing about, unlike drake, but i also know me. i know people from my block, people who died or got on drugs. im aware that it isnt a black and white scenario, that someone could do amazing things in one area and hurt people in another, and that both are true simultaneously. kendrick himself is obviously aware of this, he addresses it routinely in his music.
i truly believe that kendrick lamar showcases an incredible wisdom of people in his music. i believe that is more necessary to contributing to music than having a good ear for what sounds right. music is a communicative tool, and kendrick knows exactly what to say, how to say it, and when, to elicit the response he wants. THAT is why the people who thought drake would ever win the beef were, at the very best, not paying close enough attention. roasts are not just insults, they're insights to another person's flaws. a metaphorical airing of dirty laundry to the public to initiate change. kendrick can get away with outright admitting he hates shit about drake for no reason and not be seen as petty because he articulates it in a way that has the audience agreeing with him. sometimes you hate somebody for a reason you can't pinpoint - and the funniest part is that kendrick CAN pinpoint exactly why he hates, for example, when drake says the n word. he literally goes on to say why! very explicitly! but now he's made it more comfortable for people to start bashing on drake for any given reason because "the vibes are off".
TLDR; be careful what you listen to, because theyre definitely listening to you.

Alright I’ve avoided saying anything about the new Taylor album but I think I’ve spent enough time thinking about it now to give my opinion. As a lifelong fan of her music TTPD has been the weirdest experience of any album of hers for me.
First listen was just basic front to back while doing some nonograms and my immediate thought was that this is the worst thing she’s ever released. Like I for real had to take a break to go listen to some 1989 to double check that I don’t just dislike her music as a whole now. (False alarm 1989 is still one of my favorite albums of all time). I spent some time trying to figure out what wasn’t working for me. Most obvious was that the songs feel really dull and samey? They aren’t fun pop songs but they also aren’t the beautiful folksy ballads of folklore/evermore. They felt like they went on forever but also didn’t go anywhere.
All that to say that I was really fucking bored. Thats not enough to make me give up on an album though. I made that mistake with folklore and I wasn’t about to do it again. (I found folklore kind of dull at first listen and just wrote it off as “not for me” before coming back months later and finding a real appreciation for it) What was more concerning is the writing though. I had already seen people joking about the lyrics on this album before I listened and yeah it’s not great. It feels at times like someone doing a parody of Taylor Swift’s writing style. Some of these lyrics are undeniably cringe and thats coming from someone who can withstand a lot of cringe. It’s truly bizarre to listen to because I do think she’s a talented songwriter and she has proved that in past projects but it rarely shines through here.
I was feeling really negative about this album and overall just kind of bummed out that we got a new album from literally my most listened to artist of all time and I didn’t enjoy it with the exception of like 3 songs: Down Bad, Clara Bow, and, the immediate standout for me, I Look In People’s Windows. Heres where things take a turn though. I get a call from my dad (shout out to him! He’s the best ever and I love him) and he was telling me that he listened to the album and wanted to share our thoughts. In case you’re interested his favorites are Fortnight and So High School. I felt kind of bad because I wanted to be excited but I couldn’t give him more than lukewarm opinions on anything.
He then asked me if I could explain to him what certain songs were about with my swiftie knowledge and that kind of perked me up because I realized that I hadn’t done an in depth look into the lyrics yet. I had only listened to it very passively. I basically told him that and said I’d get on it and I could answer any questions he had the next time he called. So with that I went headfirst into listen number 2! I was ready to go with genius lyrics open, taking notes, checking twitter and tumblr and googling stuff. I built a case for my interpretation of every song to present to my dad. And the thing is I was having an absolute blast. It was a complete turnaround from my depressing first listen. I felt like a detective and I spent almost all night on this. I went to work the next day on like 4 hours of sleep but I felt nothing but pure joy and excitement.
I had to ask myself though.. is this a good way to engage with music? Is it possible to say you enjoyed a piece of art if you can only find that enjoyment through picking apart the personal life of the artist? The fun I’m getting from this isn’t the fun I feel when listening to good music it’s the fun I feel from watching reality tv. I mean yes I also have felt the same satisfaction from other Taylor Swift albums but it’s a secondary feeling. Like for example my favorite song of hers is All Too Well 10 Minute Version. I think that song being autobiographical gives it a lot of power but I think it would still be a masterpiece if the whole story was entirely unrelated to Taylor’s real personal life. On the other hand I think most of the songs The Tortured Poets Department would be entirely uninteresting to me if it wasn’t for the clues into her personal life and feelings.
And that brings us to my subsequent listens. This has just been me listening to it in my regular life. In the car, at work when I was away from the counter doing some pricing, at home doing laundry, etc. I haven’t been able to feel the joy I felt during my deep dive into the lyrics again but I also haven’t felt the misery of my first listen either. Theres still more skips than the average TS album but a lot of the songs have grown on me especially after going in depth into the lyrics. The cringe lyrics are immediately obvious but after going line by line like I did I realized that theres still plenty of lyrics that feel like the old Taylor Swift I’ve loved for so long. After all the emotional ups and downs I’ve landed at a fairly neutral position. It’s not a very good album as a whole but I’ve made my peace with that. It’s not as bad as some people are saying it is either. In the end I’m moving my favorites to a playlist and the rest I will not be going out of my way to listen to again. If you are considering listening to TTPD and haven’t yet.. you would probably have a better time with one of her other albums instead. I’d recommend 1989!

TREASON LIVEBLOG SINCE LIGHTING THE FUSE JUST DROPPED
When Will I See You Again - ARE WE STARTING WITH MARTHA???? - WE’RE STARTING WITH MARTHA. - I DONT KNOW WHATS HAPPENING IM SO LOST ARE THESE IN NARRATIVE ORDER? - carrie sounds absolutely fantastic, 100%, absolutely gorgeous. - “then i will go from your grave” is this about thomas? i haven’t looked enough at martha historically, i’m not all that interested in her but this might be about thomas?? in which case, confusion and intrigue. - BRADLEY??? SIR???? YOU SOUND GORGEOUS OH MY GODDDD.
The Wedding - "BEFORE WE MET I WAS A TROUBLED MAN" NO I CANT BAWL OVER THOMAS ALREADY - immediately so glad this isn’t Oliver Savile as Thomas still because I’d already be sobbing by now if it was. - OH GOD MARTHA AND THOMAS’S WEDDING I CANT DO THIS, I GET SAD ENOUGH ABOUT THOMAS AS IT IS - “AND NOW IM PROUD TO BE YOUR WIFE” I CANNOT DO IT - OH NO NOT IT BEING HAPPY, OH NO PLEASE, OH GOD THEY HAVE NO IDEA WHATS COMING - "we will endure the storm together" NO YOU WILL NOT BESTIE The Catholic Problem - Ohhh this is a new voice, hello. I have no idea who this is. Narrator? Do we have a narrator? - Guys we might have a narrator. - Sorry I am absolutely obsessed with how much this song feels like an allegory for queerness.
All We Dreamed And More - assuming this song will be much the same as the version on the album- OH NEW LYRICS - NEW LYRICS GUYS, STAY CALM, NEW LYRICS. NEW LYRICS. - nO THEY TOOK OUT THE VERSE ABOUT JAMES???? WHY WOULD THEY DO THAT??? - okay they’re making me sad about thomas can we just have the- OH OKAY THEY KEPT THE JAMES VERSE THEY JUST MOVED IT FURTHER BACK - holy shit bradley sounds so good, i love this man, i love this man so much, he’s absolutely killing it. - OH HARMONIES OH THE TEMPO IS PICKING UP, OH WE HAVE INSTRUMENTS OH THIS IS AWESOME - oh shit yeah course because the other one was an acoustic version, right? oh the little triumphant instrumental oh i love this oh im gonna cry - THEYRE ACTUALLY POOR LITTLE MEOW-MEOWING THOMAS WHAT IS GOING ON. - okay really glad they’re making more references to his past, i was literally talking about this with somebody earlier, i’m super happy we’re getting these little references.
The Promise - Immediately I’m like. This does not sound like Daniel. - It definitely is because you can hear it in the intonation and the accent but I am....not necessarily on board with the character voice? i get what he’s doing but i’m. i can’t say im a fan? maybe i’ll warm up to it. - i was gonna say this version is less camp but actually as we hit the chorus, i think it's just as camp - OH THAT LAUGH HOLY SHIT - OH GOD OKAY THIS MIGHT BE MORE CAMP - oh this is so good. oh bradley you are so good. i am a massive oliver stan first and foremost but bradley is doing a phenomenal job. - HERE WE GO COME ON DANIEL - i heard that little laugh sir, you didn’t get away with that - NAILED IT. FUCKING NAILED IT. HOLY SHIT. I LOVE THE ENDING TO THIS SONG. AND THE ENUNCIATION AS WELL???? FUCKING PERFECTION.
The Day Elizabeth Died - Okay so I wasn’t a fan of this on the album so we’ll see how we do. - Granted I think that’s because it’s a Thomas-less song so I just wasn’t all that interested. - OOHHH HARMONIES, OKAY. - hmmmm are those the bells from Take Things Into Our Own Hands - IT IS, THATS THE DRUMMING FROM TAKE THINGS INTO OUR OWN HANDS. - yeah that’s so cool, i love that so much. i love that you can hear Take Things Into Our Own Hands building in the background, i’m assuming that’ll be the next song? either way, gorgeous detail. - is that daniel? little bit of daniel? not sure. can’t tell.
A United Kingdom - DANIEL SONG. DANIEL SONG. ANOTHER DANIEL SONG. OHHH THERE’S THE END OF THE PROMISE PLAYING IN THE BACKGROUND, OH I LOVE ALL OF THIS. - smh James get your ego in check, there’s more important things right now than being remembered for uniting the nation. - oh i love this. i love daniel. his voice is so good. - i don’t know how i feel about the comedic tone shift? knowing what comes later, i’m unsure. i don’t like it. i guess that’s kind of the point? maybe? - "i said i'd leave the catholics alone. in fact, i sort of...promised" the fact that i can visualise the face he's making - explode? poor choice of words there james.
Burn - Oh narrator again! Hello narrator! - See yeah I’m really not being sold by the continuing tonal whiplash. this feels too hamilton-esque and it doesn’t really fit? - i’m so confused by this song, there’s so much going on. - oh hello is this the catholics? trying to pick Bradley’s voice out and struggling. - okay yeah i liked the narrators first song but i’m not on board with this one. it would be really good if it was separate from the other vocal parts but having the two combined in one song is kind of muddling my brain.
Take Things Into Our Own Hands - Immediately i’m excited to see if Bradley gives us that beautiful high note that Oliver does. I know I shouldn’t pit them against each other, but I’ve seen so much of Oliver’s stuff that I know what he basically always brings to a character, and having seen Bradley in only a couple things, I’m excited to see how their versions of Thomas differ. - I like this Catesby. I think this is the first we’ve heard from him all musical so far, he sounds really good. - Okay that was Thomas’s verse but that wasn’t Bradley. I’m fairly certain that wasn’t Bradley. - OH OKAY THEY JUST CUT OUT THE ENTIRE BUILD-UP AND THE END OF THE SONG. WHY WOULD THEY DO THAT. HELLO???? WHAT. - absolutely not a fan, i really love the build on the “haaaands” before they split off into their vocal parts and do the harmonies. bring that back. bring that back right now. bradley would have killed that high note, i know he would have.
The Inevitable - I cried the first time I heard this song. Let’s see how it holds up. - OH YEAH OKAY RIGHT OFF THE BAT THE VIBES HERE ARE DIFFERENT. - OH THAT LITTLE LAUGH. - OH THIS IS SO MUCH SADDER. - OH NO MARTHA ITS OKAY. - i mean its not okay but its okay. - GOD THIS IS SO GOOD. - I have a really strong visual of Thomas during this song and this is kind of adding to it? this version doesn’t feel quite as hopeless? like, there’s an anger here where in the other version it was just, kind of an acceptance? super interested to see how this translates across towards the ending.
The Plot - Is this Catesby? I think this is Catesby but I’m not 100% - oh i love these vibes, it reminds me of something but i can’t put my finger on what it is - i can’t hear Bradley, where is Bradley, give me Bradley. We want Bradley. We want Bradley. We want Bradley. - ohhhh. the metronome(?) in the background. - OH NO NOT THE INEVITABLE CREEPING BACK IN. I HAD A FEELING IT WOULD BE USED AGAIN BUT I FIGURED IT WOULD BE DURING THOMAS’S DEATH, NOT THIS EARLY ON. - okay is this bradley? oh yeah that’s bradley.
A Watchful Eye - OH A SONG ABOUT MARTHA???? - OH NO IS THIS GOING TO BE ABOUT THOMAS. OH NO. OH NO. - oh this is going to ruin me. oh martha. oh darling martha. - oh thomas my boy. my darling boy. my (historical) thomas percy fixation started i think a little over a decade ago? its been a long time anyway. i fucking love (fictionalised) thomas percy so much.
Digging Down Deeper - hello narrator!! i missed you!!! - oh this slaps, go narrator!! - i might need a better name for them than “narrator” but i don’t think they have any historical basis, i think they might just be a narrator. - “someone oughta warn them, someone oughta tell, they’re tryna find god but they’re heading for hell” HOLY SHIT
Blind Faith - Okay this was my favourite song so lets go! - carrie aceing it, of course. come on bradley. - opt up? - oohhhhh no he’s sticking with the lower range from the acoustic version. yeah, i think this song is where his and Oliver’s approach to Thomas differs the most. he sounds super good though. - i think i prefer the opt ups that we get from oliver but bradley sounds gorgeous either way. - i know bradley has the upper range, i just wanna hear it. he’s a lot stronger though i think? that might be the lower notes but he feels very booming. i’m conflicted as to how well it fits with the thomas we’ve seen seen so far. and i know bradley has a different approach than this to No Happy Ending. - not sure this one holds up unfortunately. not that i’m giving out points, but if i was, it would be a point for oliver.
The Plot Reprise - See now THIS is what i wanted to hear from bradley during Blind Faith. - oh this is super good. i love this. do i remember what the non-reprise version of this song sounded like? no, but this slaps. - okay i just scrolled back up and checked my notes, back on board. - sidenote, terrified to reach Caught in the Crossfire in case that’s Thomas’s death song.
As Far as I Can Tell - OH DANIEL SONG AGAIN. - he sounds so good i’m a daniel stan fr. - oh this is jazzy. i hope he gets some good choreo for this. i want some jazz hands, a couple of kicks maybe. - “...oh for gods sake” Daniel you’re incredible. - pls stop giving daniel massive notes at the end of his songs, he’s got to do an entire run of this. i have complete faith that he’ll manage it but still. come on.
No Happy Ending - I don’t actually have that much to say about this song? This is the version they dropped on November 5th, and I’ve listened to it enough since then that I don’t have anything else to say about it really. - “robert catesby is a man of pure intention” gets me every single time though. i am grabbing thomas and i am shaking him and demanding he listen to his wife. he is a FOOL. an IDIOT. and i love him immensely. - “but my faith in you has clearly been misplaced” BRADLEY JUST DOESNT MISS. EVERY LINE HE SAYS FEELS LIKE A PUNCH IN THE GUT. - how have we gone from The Wedding to this. Y’all sounded so happy earlier and now we’re here. - oh scream bestie, i love you thomas. - okay i am conflicted on martha here. i love her and she’s done her best and thomas is doomed and we know that but still. be gentle with the man who has been brainwashed into a religious cult. that’s my two cents on the matter.
Caught in the Crossfire - I paused it immediately because I needed to emotionally prepare myself but I think I heard the narrator so i think we’re okay. - no, this is not the narrator. i may still need to prepare myself. - i don’t know who this woman is. it’s not martha. - SING LADIES. FEMINISM. - i was expecting to be sad about thomas and actually im just vibing. there’s two minutes for things to go sour before the end of the song but i think we’re good. - wondering if the final song will be thomas then since its a reprise of the first song, which was a Martha and Thomas song. - MARTHA GETS THE DECIDING VOTE. NO. I MEAN, BE A FEMINIST GIRLBOSS BUT THAT IS HER HUSBAND IN THERE. - IS SHE TURNING HER BACK ON HIM. I KNEW THEY OBVIOUSLY HAD BECOME ESTRANGED BECAUSE OF NO HAPPY ENDING BUT IS SHE ABOUT TO ACTIVELY BETRAY HIM. - OH NO IM REALLY INTRIGUED BY HOW THE LAST SONG IS GONNA GO THEN.
When Will I See You Again Reprise - buckle in lads, lets go. - oh that’s martha. that is martha. - see i’m now fairly confident she’s not talking about thomas? i don’t know. this is what has stumped me. - is this about thomas? give us a bradley line. i need some indication of something. - oh is that the Take Things Into Our Own Hands motif again? it sounds similar. oh i think it is. - WHAT DOES THAT MEAN.
Okay then. Uhhh, general thoughts below ig? - the lack of Cold Hard Ground did not go unnoticed. Where is that song? give me that song. i want it. i’m aware that this isn’t all of the songs from the musical, but i’m surprised it’s not on here, since it was an already released track. very intrigued. much to think about. - no actual conclusion song. again, i’m aware this isn’t all of the songs but i THOUGHT we’d get a thomas and catesby death song this time around. i hope we get one. i hope one exists. i will be really fucking bitter if not. its been set up really well. i want one. give me one. - same goes for anything post-plot actually. i am assuming the musical will continue on and explore the death of the plotters rather than cutting off when the plot fails? i am hoping it goes on until the deaths of the plotters. i think there is the potential for good songs surrounding the manhunt. and i always want another daniel song. - i need more of thomas. i always need more of thomas. again, talking about the deaths of the plotters, i want a death song for thomas. let me take a peek inside his tiny idiot brain. i want to know if he dies still believing that catesby is a good man, or if that blind faith finally starts to give way to doubt. i want to know. i need to know. give me that good thomas percy content please.
all in all - that fucking slapped. i’m assuming we won’t get any new content until the tour releases, so i’m gonna have to be really fucking patient until it does. i think i can manage that. im lying. i can’t. i need it now.

Ancient Dreams In A Modern Land by MARINA: Album Review
good evening, the wax pen and salad combo rn keeping me humble.i have only heard one (1) song from this album, so this is a raw dog. lets get into it, one tab for tumblr and the other for lyrics
starting with ancient dreams in a modern land, obviously the statement piece of the first half of the album since it is the album name. such a savvy intro, you know hot people are attracted to this kind of instrumental. she knows what she was doing naming the album after this song. it just screams confidence, independence and self love all laced with the sort of inquisitive energy to make you want to feel how she does (i do the same thing, thats why i know this song already). i love the dreamy contrast of the bridge
moving on
venus fly trap WOW. this is fucking fantastic??? her flow is insane, like the way she will accelerate during bold, !!!! lines, u kno? i fucking love this im going to throw up everywhere. this is so black and white from electra heart, its so beautiful to see her growth while maintaining her unique sound. i adore the sound and lyrics for this one a lot
oh man here we go UMMMMMMM I DONT WANT TO LIVE IN A MANS WORLD ANYMORE GIRLLLLL SPEAK YOUR DREWTH! i appreciate the strict contrast between the chorus and the other lines, and the way the bridge has the softness of the chorus is super important. i love her voice so fucking much
i enjoy not being able to predict her sound or flow based on titles
purge the poison WOWWWW little society song! so contemporary of u marina! i like her flow because shes telling a story and then the chorus is the reminder of the underlying message. i really like this, its not in your face about the messages, they are all really perfectly presented
i like the sequence of notes she hits in the intro to highly emotional people, it really goes with the lyrics and how you feel reading them, but it also provides this really cool form of pathos. something about that pitch creates a feeling of sincerity. its like "its okay to be vulnerable, you need to confide in others, you're loved" like its a really beautiful message, and i really appreciate her dedication to representing mens mental health in her songs like this.
new america is a very very insane switch up from the song before? UHHHH HER SEGWAY INTO THE NEXT LINES... her fucking voice is so god damn insane. this albums theme is definitely social injustice within america. that makes sense too w the album name. love the cohesion, good work marina.
pandora's box i have high hopes for just based on the name and the first lines. i read them before the song changes to try to guess her approach. and see this is not what i'd expect. ok no this.... is painful? wowww the high note for "stacked against the odds" like that screams representation of a crying voice crack and i fucking love it. jesus christ this one is personal i have literally endured this and her voice captures the rollercoaster of emotions you go through when you're this hurt. jesus fucking christ this one is good.
OHHHHHH THIS IS SO ME. I LOVE YOU BUT I LOVE ME MORE? SO FUCKING ME. okay this is so delicious! the fast transition to the lines after the chorus is really cool, its like "wait theres more!!!" i needed this song in 2019 and 2021. i like it a lot, the. guitar adds a very specific angst to the song that i haven't really seen her do before from what i know of her discography
back to slow?
not loving this. i'm gonna cry i know it! this song is giving my ego the kubrick stare. i would never go back to like any of the ppl who have hurt me and songs like this just solidify it for me. like this is exactly why i am emotionally unavailable, i am so into loving myself now bc i had to go through years of dating some stupid spoiled twink. jesus christ i love this song. flowers, you are a great song.
okay goodbye sounds interesting. knew this hard piano would come in! OOOOOOO OK OK OK OK STOP IM NOT DOING OK IM SO SAD IM SO SAD I LITERALLY HAVE TEARS STREAMING DOWN MY FACE THIS IS SO APPLICABLE IM GOING THROUGH THE WORST FRIENDSHIP BREAKUP IN MY LIFE? im so fucking emotional this hurts so bad she fucking gets me! she has this chokehold on human emotion, the way that her voice and instrumental and lyrics are all so beautifully cohesive is genuinely fucking awe inspiring. this song is going to definitely be on repeat. my stomach hurts. i love this song.
no the name happy loner is gay im sorry. but i like the lyrics. i, too, am emotionally on the edge of a knife. wowwww thats really good i have felt that way. that is exactly how i feel every time im depressed. i don't really love this song, i know its probably one that'll grow on me with time for sure.
pink convertible is suuuch a cunt name. i feel like this has to be up beat bc the last song was like heavy. oooooo ok the rhyme scheme in the lyrics is interesting in this one. oh what. so i like the lyrics, not too sure on the presentation. it's definitely like "think about my lyrics" instrumental. like the minimal instrumental until the dreamy chorus is so rad actually. the minimal instrumental is when its like serious and sad. but its dreamy when its addressing that we are living in a fantasy while everything around us suffers for it. okkkk no i like it i like it.
damn okay last one, that was fast. ok girl i seeee u. back to the self love theme, the independence of being a woman. literally like you spirit is so important and i get that righteous sense of "fuck you, i will never be suppressed by anyones actions" vibe that i genuinely fuck with. also like ur a loser if u try to hurt women anyway. women r literally beautiful no matter what, like just their spirit and warm nature is better than words. and then theres fucking men. like.. look at u! hurting the universe's gift. women are the best. i like this song.
great album. 9.7/10.
#shitpost#long read#needed to review it#i luv music#marina#marina and the diamonds#ancient dreams in a modern land
