Heart Wants What It Wants

A/N: Based on reuests I’ve gotten in the past about Selenas family not wanting Justin back in her life and the reports about Mandy and Selena fighting.

Please note that I do not have any knowledge of their conversations or them as actual people. I do not wish to spread hate or go against anyone who is a part of this story. We all have our own truth. This is - as always - just fiction and a product of my own imagination.

“Why can’t you just accept Justin being back in my life? Why is it so hard for you to see what I see; this is not the same realtionship from two or three years ago!” Selena yelled, letting all the frustration of the past weeks out. She had been discussing her new relationship with her mother for the past hour and even tough Mandy had made her disapproval clear before, this time their conversation had quickly gotten heated, neither of them willing to give up.

“Because I can’t understand why you would break up with Abel and go back to him! He broke your heart, Selena!”

“Oh my God, mom!” She exclaimed. It wasn’t just her hatred towards Justin that drove her insane, it also was her incomprehension and lack of trust in her decisions that hurt. “This has nothing to do with Abel! We were done before I even saw Justin again. And you know breaking up wasn’t just a decision that we made in the spur of a moment. We had been distant for weeks!”

“Oh, so you just thought ‘Why not take Justin back, it’s not like that ended terribly.’” Mandy fired back.

“How can you even say that to me?” Selena tried holding back tears that threatened to spill. “Do you think I don’t know what happened the last time? Do you think I forgot? I was there and I was the one that got my heart broken, I was the one that spend nights crying and days arguing. How can you think that I just forgot about all of that and just …’ took him back’ how you so nicely put it. I thought about this. We talked for hours and hours and when I opened up my heart for Justin again, I did it with my eyes wide open too. I didn’t rush into this, I didn’t say ‘Oh let’s just act like nothing happened’. I made the decision to let him back into my life knowing full well what it meant.”

“Yeah well, I don’t think you do. He’s just gonna do the same shit all over again and you’ll end up with a broken heart and wasted years.“ Selenas mother told her angrily.

She took a deep breath in an attempt to calm herself down.

“I don’t even know what to tell you anymore. I know this is the right decision for me. I know in my heart that he has grown so much these last three years. I know he is ready now, that he knows what kind of life he wants and who to trust and how important the people you surround yourself with are. And I know that he is willing to do anything to prove himself. We are taking things slow but God, we are serious about this. I love him. I want to build something with him. This is what I want and I need you to take your time to accept it.”

She was proud of how calm and sure she managed to make her voice sound, even if anything inside of her wanted to scream because of how desperate and hurt and dissappointed and angry she was.

But just the look on her mothers face told her that she was fighting a losing battle.

“I can’t believe you’ve really just forgiven him and go to freaking therapy with him to build the future he destroyed years ago. I don’t even know who you are.” Mandy practically spit the words.

“Well, I am sorry that I am such a dissappointment to you!” Selena yelled before truning around and slamming the door shut behind her.

"Hey! What are you doing here, I thought -" Justin cut himself off when he caught sight of her red eyes.

Selena had tried to keep the tears at bay when she drove away from her mothers house but after a few minutes, she eventually had to stop as tears started flowing heavily. She couldn't say how long she stood at the side of the road but when she was finally able to collect herself a little bit, she turned around, taking the shortest way to his place.

"I- I just really needed to see you." She finally managed to say with a raspy voice and before she could think about it, he had pulled her inside with his arms wrapped tightly around her as the door closed. They stood in the hall, her face buried into his neck. After a while, he carried her over to his couch just so he could sit down with her in his lap.

"What hapened?" Justin finally dared to ask.

"My mom ... we got into a really big fight. It's like she doesn't want to understand. She doesn't even care about anything I have to say. I am just a huge dissappointment to her and I am sick of having to explain things over and over again without it making a damn difference."

"Is this about us? About me?" He was fairly certain it was, he knew that she did not at all agree with them being together again, but he still asked quietly.

She seemed to hesitate for a moment, before she answered with a slight nodd of her head. He sighed, hugging her tightly against him.

"I'm sorry. I never wanted .. for things to be so bad for you because I am in your life. I'm so sorry."

"I know that," she said. "It's not your fault."

"If course it it. I treated you terribly and they can't forgive me for that. And honestly I can't even blame her."

“Don’t say that. This is not on you, Justin.” She pulled away from the warmth of his body to look at him. “This is about the fact that she won’t accept my decisions. That she doesn’t care about what I have to say. It’s not like I expect her to cry tears of joy or something; I expect her to listen to me and trust me enough to let me do what I feel is right. Hell, she can even tell me what she thinks as long as she respects the way I wanna live my life.”

Selena got up, pacing trough his living room, trying to get her thoughts into order. “She acts as if I am five and need to be told what to do. Why is this so hard for her?”

He knew it was a rhetorical question so he watched her pace in silence, leaving her some space to think. After a few minutes, when he felt like it was okay to, he got up and slightly grabbed her elbow to get her attention.

“Do you need me to - do you think it would be better if I spoke to her? Maybe it will make a difference if I was the one explaining myself. I never apologized to her after all.”

“Justin, that’s sweet, really,” she began, using her hand to caress the side of his face. “But I think this is between us. Well, actually I don’t really know what to think but I feel like she needs to calm down or God knows what she’ll do.”

“I can’t fucking believe this!” Selena exclaimed two hours later. She had decided to spend the rest of the day with Justin instead of going trough her conversation with her mother again or else it would drive her crazy. So they had cuddled outside on his lounge chairs and she shouldn’t have been surprised that he managed to find a way to make her laugh despite her crappy day.

“What is it, babe?” He asked, carrying two bottles of water over to where she sat.

“She fucking blocked and unfollwed me! On instagram! Can you believe that? What is she, five?”

“Wait, is this for real?” Justin placed the bottles on the ground before the chair and leaned over to get a look on her phone.

“Well, seems like she really needs her damn space,” she added bitterly. “In that case ...“ her thumb pressed down on the screen, and he watched as she clicked to confirm her unfollow. Then, she turned her phone off, angrily throwing it on the nearby pillow.

When she met his eyes, she shruggged her shoulders. “I know that was unnesseccary but I am angry.” And despite it all, she let out a breathy laugh because of how absurd the whole situation was.

“I get it.” Justin promised, his hands on her shoulders as he sat down on the lounger behind her. She immediately leaned back into his broad chest as his fingers messaged her tense shoulders.

“I want you to know that whatever she, or anyone else for that matter, says, I am completely sure about this. And I am happy that we are in the place we are now and I am 100% in this with you. And just like you are willing to put as much effort into making this work in the long run as neccessary, I am too. And I know that this must hurt you, too. To know that part of my family is so against us, but I hope that for now, I can be enough for you.”

“Of course you are,” he replied, leaning forward to press a kiss against her hair. “You are right, I hate this. I hate that you are in the middle of this and that you have to ... defend this relationship all the time. And I hate that you are getting hurt by the ones closest to you. But don’t you worry about me. I will do whatever will help to make this better for you. If you want me to give your family space, I will. If you want me to talk to them, I will, even if they try kicking me out.” Selena couldn’t help the smile spreading on her face.

“If you want me to give you some time, I will even if I don’t like it. And if you want to keep working on this, on us, then I’ll be happy to be by your side.” She felt him brushing his hand over her side and when she let her head fall back onto his shoulder, he kissed her check, his arm wrapping around her from behind.

“And I hope that at some point, I can prove to them that I love you and that I don’t want to repeat the past. That I know I made a lot of mistakes and that I am working every day on being better.”

Selena maneuvered out of his arms, turning around to face him. He looked at her with so much determination and love, she leaned forward to press a passionate kiss against his lips, the two of them falling backwards on the lounge chair as his mouth opened to her waiting tongue, arms wrapping tightly around the woman he loved. Whatever would come at them.

So, I found out today, that State Farm canceled my car insurance. My coverage was good through Feb. 1st. My billing date is also Feb. 1st, but they usually charge me a day or two late. So my dad rear ended someone really softly, but it was a truck that he rear ended with a hitch or something that damaged the grill and the bumper. Problem is, I put a total of $2700 to have transmission replaced and the engine repaired after the timing belt broke and caused damage over the last 2-3 months. It is a 2004 dodge neon and the body to these things are flimsy to begin with. I'm taking it in Monday to get it looked at better, but they said from what they could see it might be a total loss. Which means its only gonna be worth $2000. they said they have to replace the hood, the grill, and the bumper and other stuff which is **** because I know people who could fix these problems for less than $500. they aren't even visibly bad, a few dents in the places i mentioned but when i took it in they reacted like i had been in a head on collision going 50 mph. It runs perfectly, we wouldn't have even reported it except we were worried the guy might claim injury after the fact (which he did). What can I do?
