#uhhh idk how to explain this idea right#but like....i think stories should be allowed to have mistakes. for a treat#it's like in tv shows when they had to save the budget for the final so there's reused costumes for los stake episodes#can't think of a single story thats perfect. wouldn't change anything. literally can't make a story with no flaws#sometimes the easy way around the flaw is just 'you gotta ignore that. that's not the point of the story.'#i feel like some stuff if you try and stop to explain it...it will change the focus of the story. suddenly it's a new story#like inception. entering and creating dreams is just a thing. the story just uses it. stop to explain how or why and that's something else#there wouldn't be space for the og story itd be a story about the creation of this thing#and like. listen. there are definitely some big plot holes. some poorly written stories. not saying bad stories are just misunderstood#but idk. i think you gotta stop wanting it to be flawless. that's never gonna happen#idk it's midnight hm#text#august rambles#also i tried to move a tag and it didn't work. so if the order of things doesn't make sense that's why#critical analysis hater spotted eek!#no but actually. i do like picking apart problems in stories and figuring out why it feels wrong or how to fix it#but it's almost like you gotta pick your battles. you only get to fix a few#or like. if the story is fine except for this one thing. we just don't look at that#the holes are giving it room to breathe#i gotta stop talking yikes

Also I think there’s a huge difference between ‘This plot hole is here because the author was a poor writer’ and ‘This plot hole is here because (just like you said) our energy isn’t supposed to be focused on that’.

One of these means that the author needs to improve in this area of their craft, and the other means that if you’re getting nitpicky over a minute detail that doesn’t matter all that much you are missing the point of what they WERE trying to say and that’s on you.

ok idea. what if we gave stories a free pass for one or two plot holes. "this story thread had a big hole in it" ok good to know, that must not be the main point of the story since it's got plot holes. they must have put their attention on what they thought was the important part. time to look closer at the other parts

Moments that highlight the brotherly dynamic between Mordred and Arthur:

1x08: Arthur breaks Mordred out of his cell, telling him not to be scared, he was there to rescue him and return him to his people. He offers his hand and Mordred takes it. They flee through the tunnels.

1x08: Arthur reassures Mordred that Merlin will be there to help them. When it looks like they will soon be found, Arthur draws his sword to defend Mordred if it comes down to it

1x08: Arthur delivers Mordred to the druids. Arthur asks for his name. Mordred tells him his name and Arthur wishes him luck (with dread inducing suspenseful music in the background, gotta love that) Mordred gives Arthur a little smile.

5x01: Mordred keeps Radnor from killing Arthur and Merlin. Mordred helps Arthur to his feet and figures out that he didn't recognize him. He tells him that he saved his life many years ago and Merlin names him. Arthur looks shocked/ confused. Mordred smiles and says "Hello Arthur" the smile drops.

5x02: Mordred brings food over for Merlin and Arthur and Mordred tells Merlin that Arthur saved his life and he owed him a debt

5x02: Arthur does not kill Mordred because "he could not follow us" and "he showed us kindness"

5x02: Mordred stabs Morgana to save Arthur and he carries an unconscious Arthur out of the cave until he finds the knights and passes him over to Percival

5x02: Arthur knights Mordred. They smile at each other

5x05: Arthur and Mordred train. Arthur bests Mordred and helps him to his feet while praising his progress. He gives Mordred advice and seems very impressed and proud of him

5x05: Arthur includes Mordred on the patrol to search for Osgar. Mordred is very enthusiastic and eager. Arthur tells him he earned it and gives him a little slap on the shoulder. Mordred tells Arthur "You won't regret this. I promise." After he leaves, Gwen observes that Arthur has grown fond of him and Arthur confirms this.

5x05: Once Arthur is clued in to the prank the knights are pulling on Mordred, Arthur joins in and poor Mordred is so confused and has no idea he's being messed with.

5x05: Mordred laughs at Arthur’s jokes. Arthur toasts to Mordred and his first successful mission

5x05: Mordred requests that Arthur allows him to go with them to the white mountains. Arthur initially says no, for he has little experience, but Mordred convinces him.

5x05: Mordred jumps in front of the Disir's spear to save Arthur. Arthur is very upset and concerned for Mordred. He holds Mordred's head while Merlin examines the wound. Arthur removes a glove to check Mordred's pulse.

5x05: Arthur sits at Mordreds bed side and is upset when Gaius can't guarantee he will survive.

5x05: Arthur and Merlin return to Camelot and Mordred, alive and fully healed, walks down the steps to greet Arthur with a smile on his face. Arthur is very happy and relieved, grasping Mordred's arm and pulling him into a hug.

5x05: Arthur and Mordred train and Mordred finally bests Arthur in a fight. Arthur picks him up in celebration and Mordred grins

5x09: Mordred was one of two people (the other being Leon) that Arthur trusted with the new levy route. Arthur doesnt tell him why and just asks that he trusts him, which he nods at.

5x09: Mordred finds Arthur brooding and asks if there is any way he can help. Arthur is distracted and when Mordred reminds him that he is always at Arthur's service, he tells him "I never doubted it, Mordred."

5x09: Mordred appears at the top of the cliff with rope and calls down to Arthur. Mordred is smiling and Arthur laughs in relief.

5x09: Arthur fills Mordred in around the camp fire and he apologizes for not confiding in Mordred. Mordred brushes it off saying it was a good thing he hadn't or he won't have followed. Arthur says its good to have Mordred with them.

5x09: Arthur goes to get Mordred saying "I won't leave a knight behind" and Merlin convinces him not to go back because of Morgana.

5x09: Arthur is pleased to see Mordred and clasps his arm in greeting. He says he thought they lost him and Mordred agrees that he thought the same. Arthur questions how he escaped Morgana and he asks him to be serious after he gives a jokey answer.

5x09: Arthur asks Mordred if the Dolma looked familiar and Mordred agrees

5x10: Arthur puts around Mordred's shoulders and leads him away to give him the task of apprehending the sorcerer Gaius tipped him off about

5x10: Arthur isn't happy about the sorcerer getting away but he continues to direct his questions to Mordred, who headed the mission, instead of Leon, the experienced head knight. (Just something I found interesting and I think it points to Arthur still having faith in Mordred despite not catching the sorcerer.)

5x11: Mordred confesses to Arthur that he was the one that helped Kara. He begs that Arthur reconsiders her sentence. Arthur becons for Mordred to get off his knees and puts a hand on his shoulder after Mordred confesses to loving Kara. Arthur looks troubled and regretful as he tells him "you know there's nothing i wouldn't do for you. You're a knight of Camelot. Its a bond we share. But what you ask... this girl, she is a danger..." Mordred vehemently denies this and insists he can change this. Arthur says he can't risk the lives of his citizens regardless of who asks him. Mordred is crying and again begs Arthur to reconsider. Arthur’s voice is quiet and regretful as he tells Mordred that she admitted her guilt and it left him with no option. He apologizes. Mordred leaves, crying and looking numb

5x11: Mordred goes to Arthur's chambers saying he wanted to apologize. Arthur assures him there's no need. Mordred says he hopes Arthur would forgive him. Arthur tells him "I'd never let something like this ruin our friendship." Mordred smiles slightly at that and tells Arthur he will always remember that Arthur took him in and all he had done for him. Arthur says that Mordred has become Arthur’s most loyal of knights. Mordred thanks him, gives him a nod, and leaves. Arthur did not recognize it for what it was: a good bye.

5x11: Mordred begs Arthur to let them go, that he had Mordred's word they would leave Camelot and never return. Arthur remains silent and resilient as he stares back at Mordred.

5x11: Mordred is thrown in a cell and he asks Arthur what hes going to do with him. Arthur doesn't know. He turns and leaves

5x12 deleted scene: Mordred is not entirely comfortable at the prospect of killing Arthur and he says that he believes Arthur to still be a good man and there is still hope for him.

5x13: Arthur is poised to strike a killing blow but he falters when he recognizes his opponent is Mordred. Mordred takes advantage of this hesitation and stabs Arthur. Arthur falls to his knees and Mordred says "You gave me no choice" Arthur surges to his feet and runs Mordred through with his sword. Mordred gives Arthur a deranged smile and collapses to the ground, dead. Arthur looks upset.

Much of Arthur’s dynamic with Mordred through season 5 is very much big brother little brother which makes the fall out in 5x11 that leads to them killing each other in 5x13 so tragic.

He does not and cannot nurse them. He and the beans are all ink creatures; the beans are just fine eating things like bacon soup and ink, and Mama has no physical attributes that would enable him to nurse them anyway. The closest thing you could get to “nursing” would be the beans literally cannibalizing their mother for his ink, which doesn’t sound pleasant lmao

Slight confession time. Back over two  years ago we got a new girl at work. She was in her 20s. She knew what anime was! I was so happy. She bought me this cute beconing cat keychain. I thought we were friends She would tlak to me all the time.

Then she got a boyfriend. Suddenly it was......not ok to like anime. She eventually became my boss.

Another 20 year old shows up who is also nerdy and in her 20s. 

Weend up having to move to different branches because they closed down our library. We all 4 of us from work text. Well, it’s been since this January. I rarely get text from anyone else in the group unless I start the texts. Well, apparently, they are all happy textig together. They have left out me and another girl. So three of them are hanging out and texting and they never invited me, or the other girl.

I admit, I am a bit of a handful, and I am much older than the rest. But I am SUPER PISSED for the other girl. Why? She’s African American/ Because she’s not that big a nerd. She’s not a big nerd, and they seem to always leave her out of everything. Why? Edden is into true crime, writing, nd kids lit just like the rest. I honestly can’t think of a reason they would leave her out.

Jessica is into anime. oh wait, was into anime, but now she claims to have “outgrown it”. Stacey is basically a hippes from the 70s, but is married. Kandice is into the Marvel universe and is a HUGE harry potter nerd. According to her she doesn’t like little kid shit like anime.

And I admit that I’m kinda sad that they don’t want to hang anymore. This whole change in personality came around right around the time Kandice showed up. Before we would all go out once every month fgive or take just to eat together all 4 of us. But now? Nope, no room for me and Eden.

I mean I don’t want to say it’s racism. But Edden is the only African American on staff. I AM the only  dark skinned Hisapnic person. Jessicaa is white passing Hisapnic. Stacey actually has some middle eastern blood but you can’t tell by looking at her. And Kandice is liek English or Irish.

o maybe it’s because Kandice and Stacey are married and Jessica has been going stead with this guy for almost 2 years now, and Eden and I are single.

 I mean I AM annoying. I know I’m not that great a person and no one IRL rarely wants to hang out with me. I’ve been told I’m immature and too “politically correct”. But damn it, if it doesn’t hurt that one person with a strong personality shows up, decides some shit and everyone else abandons you is just osme fucked up shit.

So I’m sad and I’m lonely. But, this is how I’ve spent most of my life. I kinda don’t give a shit anymore. Oh wait I do because I’m crying. I feel so fucking isloated where I work right now. I’m in a tiny study room. There are two chairs but there isn’t room for both chairs at the desk. I’m so lonely. There’s not even a windo to look out at. And because it’s still covid I’m suppose to stay in there when not on desk. So I’m alone in a locked room for about 4-6 hours a day.

I can’t wait to go back to my “home” aka my old work location. But honestly, things have changed now. I don’t see us going back to those warmer days. And I must admit, I really resent Kandice for having changed the dynamic of the work place. I don’t even know if i want to be a librarian anymore.

I’m trying to make sense of this and it literally only works due to high school logic. Despite being sexually mature by middle school and how we are not finished developing and shouldn’t be taking mind altering stuff like beer till we are 25 on average in both cases, people have this weird double talk about shipping which should not be an issue unless you equate it with sex anyway since a sexless strong relationship is basically best friends.

In high school the age gap is honestly the only time it’s addressed so much IRL. 9th grader dating an 8th grader? Perfectly fine for now but you are encouraged to move on cause she’s in a kids school.

12th grader with a 10th grader? Well that’s just taboo because one will be going off to college while the other still has two more years of “being a kid”. Plus one of you is likely close to or can legally get drugs and can drive while the other barely has a permit, that’s a power dynamic issue.

But guess what a-holes. When you get to 25 (the scientific age when you stop constant brain and personality development) you are likely out of college since it’s been 7 years if you didn’t repeat classes. You can now drink, do what you want and outside having loving parents helping cause you financially can’t-you likely are living on your own to an extent. So is 25 year old you gonna swear off that 22 year old who wants to jump bones? Will they say nay to that 30 year old who just got a divorce and just wants some friendly company cause it could lead to more?

Let alone will you care?

Usually not, so why in the hell in a fictional story where none of the high school issues apply would you say two people can’t be shipped? If Ruby couldn’t go to becon cause of her age and she were shipped with members of Yang’s team? Fine I’d give ya that during the first 3 seasons. But once there isn’t any structural part of society to say no, including the laws saying it’s okay there and our world, why are you mad?

Go outside. No, seriously, go outside. I think you’ll find there are real life couples with a much bigger age gap than the 1 or 2 years between Ruby and Oscar.
