Thinking about Iris' very open disdain for spirit channeling and how it seemingly contradicts many other elements of her character.

Let me explain—Iris prior to the end of BttT is a woman who only knows facades, covering up the truth, and only presenting herself exactly as she wants others to see her. We see this over and over again throughout the course of the story: she hides her real identity while dating Phoenix, she does damage control for Dahlia and Godot to help them avoid blame for their crimes, and she is extremely selective about which information she chooses to disclose to specific people depending on whatever role she finds herself playing in that moment (daughter, girlfriend, accomplice, etc). Her demeanor as a whole is also rather meek and unassuming, and she's shown to be exceptionally kind; she expresses favorable opinions on most everyone she meets, even those continuously treated poorly by other characters (like Larry) or those that have objectively done reprehensible things (like Dahlia).

All of this stands in stark contrast to her saying in no uncertain terms that she hates spirit channeling:

This stands out to me because it is one of very few things that Iris is completely forthright honest about in the early portion of this case. After spending all day avoiding Phoenix and now carefully dodging his questions towards her in hopes of preventing the truth of her deception from coming out (all of this while actively avoiding her responsibilities at the Inner Temple because of Larry's "blackmail" letter which also threatened to expose her "secret"), why is this the one bit of truth she chooses to divulge here? Or rather: why is this the one thing she seemingly cannot lie about?

Obviously the answer lies in Iris' past and the permanent damage that was done to her and her family due to the politics of the Fey clan, with the Kurain Channeling Technique at the root, and the DL-6 incident as the event that brought everything to ruin. Iris bore witness to her mother Morgan losing the title of Master of Kurain due to her inferior powers and the despair that caused her, then three years later saw her aunt Misty who, despite purportedly being so much better than her mother, made a mistake while channeling that led to an innocent man's conviction, disgracing the Fey name and causing her to flee the village in shame. With this in mind, it makes sense that Iris would feel so strongly about spiritual powers doing more harm than good; after all, she has firsthand experience of the damage that can be done to the women that have it.

But what of the women that don't have it—namely, Iris herself? What happens to a spirit medium, born of the Fey bloodline, daughter of the then-master of her channeling school, when she's shown to not have any spiritual powers? I'm of the opinion that Iris' hatred is not only a product of what she's seen happen to her mother and aunt, but also very closely tied to what is, essentially, her earliest failure in life—after all, what good is a medium who can't channel? Fey women are raised to believe that their worth is linked to how well they can perform the service of their clan, which is the same reason why Maya beats herself up for failing to channel Mia in Turnabout Goodbyes and Pearl does the same with Dahlia later in this case. In a sense, Iris' hatred of spirit channeling is an externalization of her own self-hatred—unlike Dahlia, who mainly copes by lashing out and seeking revenge on those who wrong her, Iris is far too gentle and loving to lay blame on any one person. But all that repressed guilt and anger still has to go somewhere—and it manifests through this one small crack in her otherwise flawless facade. The one thing she cannot bring herself to find beauty in no matter how much she tries. The one thing that should have given her purpose but didn't—leaving her no choice but to mold herself beyond recognition over and over into roles that aren't truly her own, but at the very least give her meaning where she was denied it before.

And knowing her? She probably hates that flaw more than anything.

I know damn well in that pretty head of Atsumu’s that he does, try his hardest to be home for dinner. Always one to be accounted for, always there beside you, mowing down on the food you’d either spent the entire day cooking, or grabbing after your errands.

But for the past few nights, he just. Hasn’t.

He’s been with the boys, or staying overtime at practice, or hanging out with Osamu because he could always use a set of hands, and for some reason, rather than just telling you this, he doesn’t. He leaves you to figure it out for yourself.

It leads to a pretty nasty spat, thankfully one Hisako was asleep for, about you just wanting a text so you know that you don’t have to look forward to enjoying dinner with him (okay. A little cruel, but he had it coming!) or setting an extra plate. It made him snarl out how ‘he’s a grown man’ and ‘he can make his own dinner plans’ and ‘take care of his damn self without you,’ and you felt your heart sink to the base of your chest.

He sighs softly, “I didn’t mean that-“

“Then take care of yourself,” you snap, turning on your heel to get ready for bed. Even though there’s some half choked apologies that fall from both of your lips, you make the conscious decision to stop trying so hard.

If he wasn’t going to appreciate the work you go out of your way to do for him to enjoy a hot meal, then why put it forward? No need to shell out the extra effort when he’s not going to do his own part.

Especially tonight, as your table sets and vegetables stop cooking, your damn husband still isn’t home.

Whatever. Asshole.

Surely, it’s fine. It seems fine. Hisako inhales the food with extreme excitement, you pick at your own while she recounts the events of her day. Gotta hand it to her, she’s a damn entertaining kid, able to distracted you from the hurt of Atsumu potentially taking your words to heart and indeed, taking care of himself.

She prompts the end of her dinner with an enthusiastic kiss to your cheek- a trait she learned from her father- before toddling into the living room to play with her toys. You smile softly at the sight, bittersweet as you move to start the dishes, trying to get through them as a quick as possible before Atsumu comes home and sees the dinner not made for him.

This is another instance, however, that you’re having the piss taken out of you, and Atsumu comes home in the middle of your chores. You cringe softly as the front door opens, he sighs dramatically, and you head the happiness in his voice when he chirps a quick “where’re my girls!”

You whimper in the back of your throat and plaster a smile, still trying to hide the hurt in your features.

“Hey my love,” Atsumu says, voice strained from sighing happily, before laxing out to kiss you. “Where’s the boss of us?”

You smile and pucker your lips for a brief, almost uninterested kiss, and you watch as his body language tenses. “She’s in the living room playing with her toys. I was going to give her a bath once I finished the dishes.”

“I can do that, dollface,” he chuckles. “If you want to relax, or get started on her bath you can.” He happily hooks his head over your shoulder and nuzzles into you softly. “I gotta eat first anyways, so I can take care of the dishes.”

You tense up as he lifts his head with a happy inhale, “smells great in here. What did you make?”

In confusion, you give him a look over your shoulder. “I… made curry in the pressure cooker, and some rice and fried some eggs for us.” He groans happily and quickly dashes to the fridge to open and search for the extras, only for his face to fall once he turns up empty handed.

“Did… you both polish it off?”

“I only made enough for two, and with your daughter having an appetite like her uncle I almost didn’t have enough-“

“But…”

“What?”

“You… you didn’t cook enough for me?”

You scoff and continue to scrub the plates, “since you clearly had no intentions of updating me on what you’d be doing tonight, I figured I had no use in cooking more than Hisako and I could eat. Leftovers go to waste in this house anyways.”

He pauses, and you hear his socked feet padding around the tiled floors, trying to piece together his thoughts and approach this. You continue to wash the dishes, but the signals in your brain cross as two long arms wrap around your waist, a head burrowing into the curve of your neck.

“‘Tsumu-“

“I meant to text you,” he murmurs, curling up as close to you as he can. “I swear. Tonight, I wanted to come home and eat dinner with you, and watch a movie with ‘Sako, but I guess I just forgot to when Bokuto wanted to practice a little bit more…” one of the arms wrapped around your waist moves up to gently cup your jawline, angling your head to look at the golden eyes curved in distress. “But as soon as I realized I came right home, I didn’t even think of it. Please, don’t be mad at me… it was an accident this time, I swear.”

You sigh and lean over to nudge your nose with his, “I’m not mad at you, baby. You just… you hurt my feelings last night; you can’t tell me you don’t appreciate the work I do, then come home and pout about the work I didn’t do. That’s rude, it’s shitty of you.”

“I know,” he says softly, lowering his eyes. In thought for a moment, he then rises his gaze back up to you with a hopeful smile, “can I have a kiss at least?”

You snicker and roll your eyes, “you may have one kiss, and if you play your cards right, I’ll doctor up some instant noodles for you.”

He beams happily up at you and leans up to steal a kiss, the hand on your cheek stroking the warm skin lovingly, “I like the sound of that.”

☁️ ... this is my last ask for the day i SWEAR. how about dr kry with a sleep deprived darling / a darling who's always sleep deprived. if that doesnt work because of the setting (cause yknow in canon the darling's always napping lol), then how about a darling who has trouble sleeping. OR BOTH if you want to and can make it work. sorry i really wanna request this one cause the only time i can have a good sleep nowadays is when the weekend hits 🥲 i just want a bit of dr kry fluff 😭

He will sit with you for as long as you need, putting your needs before his. He can see that you're struggling to fall asleep. He can see the hollow half moons under your eyes and his heart will break.

"I can't watch this anymore. I'm going to go get you some sleeping pills, okay? And if they won't work I'll go get anaesthesia. Hopefully that'll be able to make you relax."

You'll get your sleeping pills and then rest back against the pillow. Dr Kry will sit with you until morning hours if needed. He'll hold your hand, play with your fingers, hug you if you want one and read for you.

"Are you feeling a little sleepy now, Y/N? Yeah? Are the pills working? Amazing. Just relax and let yourself fall asleep. I'll be here with you until you fall asleep and then I'll meet you in the morning, okay? We'll eat breakfast together, I promise."

Dr kry with s/o who suffers from migraine. Like bright lights aren’t good, eats a lot of pain killers and sleeps a lot bc of it

One of the main things with Dr Kry is that he always forces you to sleep (as seen in his headcanon), but that's because of the poisoned air he puts you in. If the lights we're bothering you as well, he'll turn them down and use small, warm nightlights to keep the room somewhat lit up. He'll try to control your intake of pain killers since he's afraid that you'll take too many, but he'll make sure that you won't be in pain one way or another.

"What? Too bright? Still? But, honey, all of the lights are already off. It's only this little light that's still on ... alright, I'll turn it off. If this continues I might have to develop nightray vision. Why don't you take a nap, Y/N? It'll make you feel better."

How would Dr Kry react to a darling who's very interested in his love life and like to tease him ? Always asking question about his possible partner, what he likes, ect ? Just to say " I don't understand why you're still single, you're so easy to love! Besides you're also very quiet, I know a lot of girls who liked the quiet bo- Wait !! Let me set you up, there's a very nice nurse I think her name is ... Charlotte? You know, the short brunette on the first floor ? She seems very kind or maybe you're gay ?? Well, there's that one dude at the cafeteria, I kinda had a crush on him at the beginning but I thinks he likes men...you could still give it a try if you want 🙂"

He'd let you have a go at it at first, hoping that it'd only be a one time thing ... but you continue to tease him every. single. day. He'll try his best to avoid the subject all together, but in the end would lose it. He'd grab your shoulders and pin you up against the wall in an attempt to make you silent.

He'd noticed that he'd scared you and let your shoulders go. Backing away a step while running a hand through his hair, he'd think on how to save this situation. You'd apologize for making him mad which would only cause him to sigh heavily.

"You're so stupid, Y/N. Why can't you see that I want you? My fingers ache at the need of touching you sometimes and my heart breaks at the thought of you imagining me with someone else! I don't want anyone else. I think I'm going insane! I don't want to hear you talk about other people when you're with me. I just want you to focus on me and me only. Can you do that for me?"

He'd notice how wide your eyes were and how you started pulling your arms closer to your torso. With a hiss, he'd bring you into his arms before you had the chance to run away.

"I love you", he'd whisper.

He'd sound proof the room and give you ear plugs. When he's talking to you, he'll use a soft spoken voice and if he gets angry, he'll try his best to keep his composure so he won't yell at you. If there were loud bangings or sounds he can't control, he'll hide with you in the bathroom where the sounds aren't as loud. You'll have your ear plugs and his hands over your ears.

"It's alright, little one, just breathe. The noises will end soon. When they end, we'll go back out into the room and we'll read a little, okay? I'll try to find out who made these awful sounds and make sure they won't do it again."

This man would honestly take such good care of you. You'll share a big bed, have many plants and he'd show a more humane side that he can't show in the hospital. He'll smile more, love more, talk more. The constant stress of being in the hospital and having people all around who could take you away from him takes a lot of energy that he wants to project on you.

"I've baked bread! I've wanted to try for a while. How about you come with me downstairs and get a slice with some marmalade? I know your legs are weak, I'll carry you down if you'd like."

He'd make sure you were scheduled together so he can spend his work shifts with you. People in the hospital would think that you're a couple. Exactly as he wants. "Y/N, do you want to go take a bit of fresh air? You've been working so well these last hours, you're well deserved of a break. Come here, let's go take a few breaths and a bit of coffee before the night shift."

Good morning, my friends.

I wanted to share a little bit of a life update as I've had a LOT going on. You're welcome to read, or keep scrolling since I'll leave it under the cut!

Be warned: there will be some triggering content such as health problems, mentions of death, food, surgery, mentions of suicide, etc

Please do NOT read if any of those topics are triggering for you!

So, I'll start off by mentioning the positives!

We bought a house! My partner and I have been working very hard to get all moved in while also wrangling an almost 5 year old. I've been doing a lot of unpacking and moving furniture around, trying to get my son to help when he's able to, but needless to say, I need a break lol

As I mentioned my son will be 5 next weekend! And he starts school the following week, which will be soooo nice. Bittersweet. I love the little bugger but I cannot keep up with his energy.

Now for the negatives.

My mom is going through a lot. She's terminally ill, has been for a while, and it's rough to see what she's going through. Constantly sick, can barely eat most days, etc. But now it's starting to finally have effects. There is deterioration in the upper part of her GI tract and she's sick so much that she's now back on a fully liquid diet of whatever she CAN get down. There are treatments but they tend not to go well for people that have them done. To top it all off, she's also having a lot of fibroids. So many in fact that she will be having a hysterectomy next week.

She's only 45.

My dad, due to his service in the military, is suffering severe ptsd and is incredibly suicidal. I cannot even tell you how many times he's attempted in the last 6 months alone, and I'm not even aware of all of his attempts. He has anger issues. He wears hearing aids. And things have gotten so bad that he's suffering from memory loss, potentially Parkinson's disease, and he's very paranoid about EVERYTHING. He's also been having some kind of heart issue that we've recently discovered where he's been having frequent "heart events" (?) We're still waiting about the cardiologist to see what's going on there.

He's only 46.

To top this off, my parents, after 27 years, are trying to decide if they need to take a break.

My anxiety has grown so much in the last year and a half, that I now carry noise canceling headphones with me everywhere I go, along with my medications. I almost have Shigaraki's dry ass lips and that's not for lack of trying! Chapsticks and various lip products chap my lips terribly and I have dermatitis that refuses to go away with medication. I feel gross most of the time, and I've refused to go to places like the pool bc I feel so insecure about my body. My eating disorder has been making a comeback.

It got very dark very abruptly so I tried to end on a less dark note. Sorry about that 😅

[Magi reread] Night 29: Slave

Gdi, I really want to rewatch the Magnostadt Arc, like, you don't get it. I'm in the MOOD. But I promised myself to go more-or-less chronological. Like, it's one thing to kinda jump from one thing to another in some arc, but I want to rewatch the entire thing, gdi, Saya, why do we do that to ourselves.

I'd say speedrun Morgiana Arc, but it's not that much of a speedrun, plus I have a few thoughts.

But before that, I thought randomly about the Night 17, which is an almost-month timeskip. The timeskip where Alibaba does something pretty important, and Morgiana has some character development after a lifetime of being a slave, you know, some dealing with trauma... It didn't really ring a bell until a few days ago, when I was like. Wait. It's a trend. And ya bet I'll comment on the timeskips. But, man, it's already appeared so early!

I had to share this thought, now to the actual chapter.

All I wanted to point out that when Morgiana sensed something coming closer, she instinctively stopped this little girl. Imo cool characterization moment. Seemingly gently.

Yknow, for a kid in this situation, you're being very calm, little girl.

Nadja's from Balbadd! Still pretty cool that there's some of that info sprinkled here and there. Also, didn't Nadja mean Hope?

I checked, it does!

Totally random thought, I wonder if Nadja's supposed to be, like, a symbol of little Morgiana, yknow? Kinda cuz I noticed her side ponytail. And if that's the case, then tbh that's pretty cool, because this arc becomes a symbol of Morgiana saving herself. When she was little, there was nobody else to help her, but she's capable of it now.

Like I've said earlier, it's a damn good arc, but it's very isolated from others. Don't misunderstand me, it references stuff that'll come up in other arcs, but this specific arc won't be referenced much if at all later on. Which is a shame.

Kinda made me think how slavery isn't a thing in Balbadd, so maybe that's why she wasn't as freaked out. She genuinely doesn't understand what it means until Morgiana starts explaining it.

I am both curious, and at the same time, I'm not sure I want to know what Morgiana is saying.

Also, listen, I know I have a tendency to see mah boy everywhere, but I'm kind of wondering if it's the Same Face Syndrome or maybe it's just, like, how Balbadd people look. Seriously, Nadja reminds me a lot about Alibaba, when it comes to her face. It's also kinda cool, in general, bc Hope is also something associated with Alibaba and his Household. As in, according to the wiki, the name of all the spells there are a corruption of Amal, meaning hope.

Whoops.

Another thing I thoght abt is how... desensitized Morgiana feels. Tbh, I'm gonna guess she's dissociating a bit here, to focus on the situation at hand rather than get overwhelmed, which does sound like a defence mechanism she would've created under Jamil.

Wayne spent that time watching how his kid sits around kicking his feet and daydreaming with hearts in his eyes about a boy that'll deck him if he ever notices how Eddie feels. He watches his boy fail, again, while the Harrington kid graduates. Never liked him, never trusted him.

Eddie spends most of June hanging out at the mall, bothering Steve and Robin, and eating free ice cream. He knows that Steve is straight, but, he looks at certain of the kids Steve takes care of, at his friendship with Eddie, at how easily he gets along with Robin, and is pretty sure that Steve won't be a dick about it. If he finds out. When, more like, since Eddie doesn't broadcast it, but he doesn't keep it a real secret.

So they're friends, close friends, even though Eddie knows Wayne doesn't like him.

Then Steve's best friend comes back from camp, and Eddie is a nosy little shit, so obviously he gets involved with possibly spying on russians at a secret base. And he loves adventure, so obviously he goes with them and gets stuck in the elevator.

And Eddie's very best skill is his ability to pull attention onto himself, and away from others. So after Steve takes a hit or two, Eddie does what he does best, and gets beat to shit. Concussion that Steve is freaking out about before they get drugged.

Bathroom chat sees Steve talking vaguely about someone he likes. Robin comes out. Eddie comes out to take the focus off of her, and Steve, who was talking about Eddie, doesn't know what to say. It was supposed to be impossible, so he never had to think about what it really meant that he liked Eddie. But if Eddie isn't straight then... Robin figures it out, but before the three have time for more than mild queer panicking, Dustin's back, and they're in motion again.

Eddie takes another big hit during the fight, knocked unconscious. Safe. Survives it all because he hit the ground in a safer corner, but has a second concussion in the space of a few hours. On top of mystery drugs. They get him to the hospital along with the others that are injured, and Steve calls the trailer to let Wayne know.

Now, as far as Wayne knows, his boy didn't come home two days ago, and now he's getting a call from the boy that he knows his son has a crush on, to let him know that Eddie is in the hospital, beaten unconscious. And when he gets there, Harrington won't give him real answers about what happened. Cause a fire at a mall doesn't make Eddie vanish for days, and it damn well doesn't beat his face in.

And, yeah, shits fucked, so Steve sits on the floor outside of Eddie's room because he was genuinely worried that Wayne was gonna throw a punch. It's not like he can just say that they were fighting Russians who were trying to open a portal to another universe so they could find monsters to win the cold war. It'll be okay once Eddie wakes up. Bc then Eddie will insist on seeing Steve so they can finish that conversation they cut off, and Steve can explain that its okay if Eddie doesn't like him, that he still wants to be friends.

Instead. Two concussions.

Eddie wakes up and he doesn't remember much of anything past January of 85. He knows Steve isn't a complete dick, but they weren't friends then. Friendly acquaintances. That's it. And why would Eddie think to ask if the guy he knows from school is waiting in the hall for him?

Eventually, when the doctors have swarmed in and out a few times, Wayne appears and tells him that Eddie doesn't remember, so it's gonna be Wayne's choice on if Steve comes in. Wayne, who is sure that Eddie tried for something, and got beat for it. Yeah, maybe Harrington felt bad enough afterwards to get him to the hospital, but that doesn't undo the rest.

Steve's not allowed in, and Robin is the one to catch him when he falls. They talk, and Steve has the time now to explain it all to Robs. And look, yes, he wants Eddie back. He wasn't lying before, he's fine with it only being friendship, that's more than enough, but he wants his friend back.

Except, even if Steve was allowed close enough to talk to Eds, which he definitely isn't, Eddie getting all the memories back means that he'd be involved with the upside down stuff, and have the same nightmares the rest of them have. So. Maybe it's kinder not to?

While Eddie is sitting in his trailer, trying to figure out why the hell he has a shirt from the school's basketball team in his laundry. And why he has a half filled character sheet for an obvious beginner named Hair the Barbarian. And why he keeps hiding those pieces, and a dozen more beside, from the uncle he has always trusted with everything.

- They've also been trying to master that transatlantic accent, with little success

I WANT THAT ESSAY ABOUT SEAN YOUR HONOR!

ask & you shall receive! buckle up though bc I can NEVER write short things lol. keep in mind that everything I'm saying is only coming from what I've observed on the show as I haven't read the novel it's inspired from, so I can't predict what's gonna happen & I frankly don't want to bc I like the surprises!

so, sean is frankly such a fascinating character bc he really didn't shine that much in the first episode compared to other characters (I know, I must be crazy to say that about an off jumpol character lol! I still loved him but he wasn't really the center of attention since he only makes his entrance in 4th part of the ep.) but since then it’s been absolutely beautiful to peel back every layer of his personality one by one!

so when we're introduced to sean in ep 1, we are greeted by those crazy deep eyes:

and we KNOW these are eyes that say something, we've seen them since the final trailer, hell, even p'nuchie said the most impressive thing about off's acting is his eyes. but somewhat even I, off's self-proclaimed biggest stan, didn't realize how MUCH these are not off's regular eyes until I really compared pictures of him. and for sean, the only time when he's softer is when he's around namo, in this scene for example:

does this look like the same person??? bc frankly it barely does to me. and I could talk about namo's influence on sean & how I'm excited to know more about her bc I love her but that'll be for another day :') so ANYWAYS, in ep 1 we're introduced to sean who's extremely reserved & mysterious, has this super cool aura about him, and clearly isn't the biggest fan of black. and what kills me about sean is that he (and honestly the other gang members as well but him especially) is SUCH a cliche of toxic masculinity lmao, like dude really wanna be the manliest man out there, he's so aggressive for no reason :'))) (but actually it’s not for no reason it’s just that the man has never felt safe in his life so he trusts no one, poor baby)

so yeah, in ep 1 we see the very surface of sean, which is aggressive, violent & overly manly. what I like though, is that since ep 1 (and honestly that's one of the strengths of the show as a whole to be able to have funny moments even though it deals with very serious issues), we do see a more playful (honestly childish, I could make a whole essay on that alone so I’ll keep it at that but he can be a literal baby at times lmao) side of sean when white accidentally pours the engine oil on him & he wants revenge. and another clue that jennie confirmed gun said is very important to the show is this:

this is something that captured my attention bc it's the only time sean smiled in the whole ep, and this sentence immediately felt like it referred to sean's queerness, which is why it's exciting to know it will come back in later episodes! for now I'll have to let it go bc I have so many more things to say, but when that sentence comes back I'll be waiting for a message in my askbox so I can rant about it again :') so anyways, apart from that, ep 1 tells us the base layer of sean’s personality, which is that he is overall not a very soft person, even though the playful scene & that "unique means good" scene show us that it's not all there is to it.

in ep 2, that's when sean starts getting WAY more developed, and that ep develops two sides of his personality: the first one is of course, that he saves white's ass many times, he drives him to thawi's house even though gram who's closer to black could've done it, he saves him from the fire, he checks up on him during the whole mission... he's also clearly the most perceptive about the fact that white has changed. he IS kind of a badass, love that for him. but then there's this other side, a softer, more pathetic side of him that starts to appear, mostly bc there's his first scene with namo so we can see that he can actually interact with people like a regular human being! amazing! but more importantly bc we see him cry when white says he wanna quit, which is incredibly hard hitting bc it shows how much justice & their vigilante group means to sean.

and then we have a favorite scene of mine, sean going to check on white despite saying he wouldn't do it to gumpa:

and for me that's a super important sean scene bc it should feel ooc, like why would he care about white?? why would he check his temperature when he notices he isn't okay?? why is he LITERALLY BEGGING him to come back to the garage?? like, isn't he supposed to dislike him & be this cool, detached guy... but for me this is the most sean scene at that point bc despite how uncaring & rough this guy tries to make others think he is, HE CARES SO FUCKING MUCH!!! even when he doesn't care, he fucking cares lmao. and mostly in that scene he wants black to care about the group he has created so his fight for justice can continue, bc ultimately that's literally sean's main goal in life. he wants justice & he wants revenge for his own family & all the people wronged by thawi. so ep 2 is really amazing at showing this duality in sean's personality from badass cool guy who saves people to this very sensitive guy who MIGHT care like, just a tiny bit <3 and spoiler alert, the layers only continue from there!!!

in ep 3, all of the previous character traits we've seen for sean are pushed even further: he's even more playful than before (the towel scene & the fighting scene), he keeps tabs on everything, he's still as rough & violent as before, yet he's already more caring (wiping white's blood bc gumpa asked him, letting him drink out of his can, accepting that he sleeps in the same room...) a lot of sean’s development in ep 3 is who he is in relation to white, bc even if they both pretend there's not, a sort of relationship is forming, which was never there with sean & black. and we can see that by namo, who for me represents someone who sean really cares about but also someone who can see right through him, and she sees that sean's mind is elsewhere when he plays the bass, bc he's thinking of white. even though ep 3 doesn't necessarily show any new side to sean, I still love him in that ep bc he's starting to feel more & more fully fledged as a character, with his complexity, depth & frankly contradictions as well.

and then ep 4, which here is kinda the climax of sean's contradictions in the sense that it starts with sean having BY FAR his most vulnerable & genuinely gut-wrenching moment we’ve seen until now as he cries while he has a nightmare. and he doesn't seem to remember it in the morning, or at least he's not phased by it, which means it's absolutely not the first time this happens. and here we discover a much more pitiful side of sean, which we can fill in ourselves why he's crying, bc from the trailer we know that thawi killed his family. and sean, from the beginning has been the loneliest character of the show. all the characters are lonely, but he just FEELS like he's all alone in the world, bc he hasn't created many relationships with the people around him. and for me, that nightmare scene just concretizes the fact that sean... is kind of a loser. he's lonely, he has no family, almost no friends, he's closed off, he has started at a disadvantage financially which is why he has to work at the garage to sustain himself, he got suspended for university... and all that sean really has? is his idea of revenge against thawi. that's literally all that's keeping him going.

and we can see it in the classroom scene where sean is the first to raise his hand to bring thawi's case to the forefront of the discussion, which white notes is odd for such a reserved guy, and he's right. sean is ready to do everything to make sure he calls out thawi’s unlawful actions. and we also have white noticing sean's disappointment that he pressed the crocodile's tooth and won, which is nice to see bc until then we had sean being the crazy observant one, but now we have white actually LOOKING at sean deeper than just trying to figure out if he attacked black or not.

so now, here we are! we know that sean is a very complex character who had never revealed so much of himself before white arrived, and it's a delight to know more about him every episode that gets released! I love seeing white discover more vulnerable sides of him at the same time as we, the audience, do. I can't wait to see sean confront thawi & get revenge on him, and mostly I can't wait to see THIS look sean gives white. it's all about the eyes for sean, it's all about the EYESSS:

tldr; sean wants to be a cool badass detached boy with no feelings, but in fact he’s a lonely sad boy with TOO many feelings & he deserves to be loved <3

Mind circles around the notion of control, everlasting and never-ending. Golden gaze stares at the levitating crystal of ice right above her gloved hand. Moments of hesitation will always be the ones that'll lead to eventual death caused by uncertainty in your own actions. Undeniably, it'll never stop the snow queen from reaching what she wants and grasping what she desired. Selfishness incarnate, cold will never stop biting and tearing apart those who are not welcome in the land of ice and frost. It's not something that the man of red and black have to worry about, untouched by the biting frost unlike the grass, the flowers, the trees, the animals even that are running away from the epicenter of cold - from her. The only who stays is the Heart, King of Hearts. She knows his presence is right there, but there is no thought or expectation of him to stab her in the back. For all his power, he hasn't shown her anything to cause her concern or to bring a ice dagger to his neck. If anything, the warm touch of his seems to melt her ice bit by bit with weeks passing. It's been too long, even the best actor like her would at least break some of her character after being with someone day and night. Genuineness is always written all over his face when he looks at her, eager and open. It puts her at ease, but also makes her confident in his presence, relaxed.

Concentration is what she praises herself in. The self-discipline and the control over her own emotion akin to a snow, stopping whatever there is in its clutches as if stopping time. They don't say the winter is stagnant, stopping time and making everything quiet with no birds or animals to sing besides wolves howling at the moon. Sokolova searches the marshes around, all around them and far beyond. The birds made of ice, the foxes made of frost, the snakes made of snow, they all linger and they all travel all around to let her scan the perimeter before moving on with Valentin. She inquired him to wait, it'll take only fifteen or so minutes. She remembers the look in his eyes when she began, these powers are not ones she feels happy about but they are a necessity in this world. Her placing two rings in his possession as she began were a show of trust, they are her thread and they are her chains; her most important possessions besides her own life... that keeps getting saved by one made of clock and snow and by other made of roses and authority. Golden eyes glow just like the ice crystal showing her images through the eyes of each created beast, she sees far beyond and it makes her feel more at ease. The steps behind her note the woman of Valentin's approach. She doesn't move, still as a statue. He might be interested to see how it works, she thinks, but hopes he understands the coldness of the air around her. He must understand that a beast must not be interrupted, the pupil that became vertical the moment ice begins to search, her breathing out steam as internally she's still warm as a human being. Still, yet, for now.

" You'll get a frostbite if you're not careful, " she warns him as the sound of snow cracking beneath his boot is heard by her. The words are calm, she doesn't break her concentration over what's happening. It's been more than fifteen minutes but she wishes to be safe, all to avoid any unnecessary problems that'll bring less efficiency into their travel. What makes him want to step closer? Is he concerned over her getting cold? She throws those thoughts away, assumptions have never made anything better. The warm presence makes her want to step away, she wishes not to cause him to actually get a frostbite. Not that she'll let it happen, making sure the low temperature will avoid him, but she does not expect him to call her name like that. With him being so close that she can feel his hot breathe against the shell of her ear, making her finally look away from the icy crystal to turn her head to inquire what he needs. It's the only move from her he seemed to need as his lips immediately find hers, the crystal in her hand cracks and fully dissipates into thin air as his gloved hand cups her cheek to have her not turn away.

The feeling of hot lips against her cold ones makes the experience far better as she can feel herself warming up immediately at the presence of Valentin so close. The red sunlight gleams in his ruby eyes and the fire lives in his touch, melting the ice that she covers herself in for the sake of survival. Her shoulders relax as she gives in to the kiss, indulgent and greedy for more of his warmth. Cheeky man, she can feel him smile through the kiss and it makes her bite on his lower lip just a bit to show him her unhappiness with breaking her concentration with such means. He must know he's the only reason she's stopped and would be the only person to ever break her concentration like this in this whole damn Wonderland. It's surprising how much better he's become at kissing her, learning the details that make her body react and her mind become more possessive of him, his lips, his warmth. It feels like the kiss continues for a while but it's all too short at the same time. when they distance, she can see him breathe out steam just like she does, the temperature is slowly returning to normal. Once again, he has the light smudge of her lipstick on his lips, she reaches her gloved hand to them, pressing thumb against his lower lip to erase it. The look in his eyes speaks of indulgence, pride, mischievousness. Perhaps, she's imagining it out of her own bias. She cannot know for sure what this man thinks without hearing his unique way of speaking.

" No more, " even if it is obvious she wants more; so many more. To warm up, to keep him close, to leave more marks of possession on the royalty like him. Sokolova taps his lower lip with her thumb that she used to wipe away the smudge of lipstick. Red does suit him so well, it makes her appreciate her choice of lipstick every single time when she kisses him. " We have to move. Thanks to you, I haven't finished exploring the area, so we will have to do it on our two feet. " There is a sigh, she looks away from his face and retracts her hand from him. It's dangerous to keep this close to him. She still feels cold inside, it always happens after using her powers. The cold sensation in her chest, heart turning to frost and she shakily breaths out, softly. He mustn't get worried about it, he mustn't question it, he mustn't grow too concerned over this. " Haah, I don't like using my powers. Can you give me my rings? I need to put them back on. " As soon as possible to bring back the limitation.
