re: hanky code and handcuffs, when I see details like that people only catch looking closely at the background/really detailed fan analysis, I assume it's probably a specific costumer/set design person thinking "aha what if" and probably not the director unless it's something they clearly added as a pattern to be noticed

yep, exactly. people on here will act like tv is an auteur medium and it's...... very much not. a tv production is like a small town's worth of people and so much shit goes unchecked. i met a guy in set dec once who said every teenage bedroom he ever worked on had his band's poster in it and no one ever noticed. you could make a bizarre cinematic universe based around that band if you wanted to.
