seriously im a broken record at this point but collei's such an evocatively beautiful character if you choose to interpret her and her struggles as having been a result of her marginalization, that she's at the intersection of multiple levels of marginalization, and that her eventual freedom from this cycle of abuse & intense self hatred lies in finding community with other people who afford her her own agency; the sealing of the dead god inside of her symbolically acting as a reclamation of her humanity .. but hoyoverse literally just straight up does not recognize or realize they wrote her like this at all because theres no other explanation for how we got from point a (webtoon) to point b (the game)
#like if you stick to that central reading of her character (that can pretty much only be derived from the webtoon)#then you just keep finding so many other things abt her character that complement this and it just kinda makes you angrier and angrier that#shes ultimately a character in genshin impact#whose literally ruined by sheer virtue of being in genshin impact#because like the thing is that even if her main thing derives from having been exploited bc she's marginalized on multiple levels#ultimately she was not written with the awareness that she's marginalized on multiple levels#and well like in general genshin is just awful at actually portraying marginalization in any meaningful way#so you end up with collei i.e. a character whose oppression just sorta lives in a vaccum#like she could have had a poignant narrative about institutionalized abuse & how that perpetuates both internal and interpersonal abuse#and that healing begins with community support#but this just is ultimately not materially possible because its genshin impact babyyyyyyyyyyy
