Rant
I feel like the internet has normalized being a hater too much. There are so many shows and movies in the past decade where people will make longwinded rants on YouTube saying "X is garbage and here is why" or "The absolute state of <Franchise>" or "Y is the the worst <franchise> movie" and then I go watch the thing and it looks either fine or the flaws in it are so milk toast that I honestly don't get where the hate comes from.
My page is PSO2 themed so you'd think i'm strictly referring to that but I'm not even doing that right now. I'm mostly speaking about stuff like Avatar, Star Wars, Pokemon and Marvel right now. I've seen so many videos on YT claiming The Legend of Korra is terrible and absolutely ruins The Last Airbender. The show is alright? Like yeah, the first two seasons have more bad than good but anyone saying Season 3 and 4 aren't Kino are lying to themselves imo.
With Star Wars people hated on the Prequel Trilogy for a whole decade. To the point where when Disney bought the franchise you could actively tell they were trying to distance themselves from that trilogy. But the people who grew up on prequels started sharing appreciation for it online and now we're arguably getting more prequel fanservice than Original Trilogy. And even the stuff that takes place after the Original Trilogy is slowly building the groundworks for the Sequel Trilogy to make more sense. And I don't doubt for a second in a few years that trilogy will have the same effect of late appreciation.
I was convinced people hated the recent pokemon games with a passion but I actually got Pokemon Scarlet for Christmas last year so I decided to finally play it last month and... The game is fun? Probably most fun I've had since Black 2 White 2? Yeah the graphics are shit but I never cared too much about that anyway. I still play games like Gothic 1 and 2 which were made almost 25 years ago and look like the polygons were made with playdoh because I enjoy the gameplay so much that I can look past the aging visuals. And yeah, I don't get the hate for PSO2 either. I play it daily for multiple hours. The game offers insane sandboxes for self expression so it baffles me seeing videos like "PSO2 is a disaster" when its the most fun I've had with a MMO since the initial "MMO magic" ran out.
With Marvel I get its hard to stay invested right now because the only decent plot thread we've had needed to be retconned but a lot of these "terrible" movies and shows are either inoffensively bad or just plain mediocre. How is that enough to make people go on a multi-video tirade on YouTube or a 5 hour long rant?
I genuinely don't get it. Why do people enjoy being miserable like that on the internet? I legitimately can't trust anyone's negative opinion online anymore.

Hi, I came across SWS and your art early last year and absolutely love the general aesthetic and vibe. I'm trying to get some people on board to actually run a few sessions but I'm finding it surprisingly hard to come up with both inspiration or just stories and art which have a similar sort of feel. Do you have any suggestions for stuff I could read, watch, look at, whatever that you feel is inspiring?
Finally got a chance to think on this one! Deep down I made SwS because there's not media that scratches all my itches at once in regards to what it is exactly, especially in the TTRPG sphere BUT there are a few core pieces of media/experiences that have banged around in my head that have formed it and may help you with forming the right mood and ideas for the world. -Princess Mononoke was what tripped my love of animism. Masked spirits of the land and such, which ultimately lead to my interest in shinto beliefs, specifically the many kami of various types. Kami of the land, kami of old heroes, kami of objects. It sets the mind ablaze. -Nier Automata hits a lot of themes that are central to SwS. The ruins of an old world being interpreted by those who live in its shadow. What is worth preserving and what sort of future can you forge ahead with those lessons? Are we stuck in cycles of violence or can we declare independence? Aesthetically the ruined cities also echo the atmosphere of the world. -Kino No Tabi (Kino's Journey) is an old inspiration of mine for the various ways that cultures and societies come together and fall apart. For those not familiar its about a traveler who rides a motorcycle from town to town and stays in each town for 3 days, which she's decided is enough time to learn what you need to know about each town. it's a land of societies that exist as islands though, where they accept travelers, yet govern themselves without outside interference. I could gush about it for a while but all you need to know is I have a tapestry of Kino above my bed. There's a good 2003 anime that I recommend before the 2017 anime, though I started with the light novel, of which I think there's only 1 officially translated to english due to copyright shenanigans. -Girls Last Tour is a similar energy to kino no tabi but is also a bit gay -The Earthsea Cycle Novel Series Digs into some feelings about names, identity, and the magic in words that is very SwS-y. -Urban exploration photography of abandoned places such as those in the zone of chernobyl, and abandoned places of Japan are definitely the right aesthetic direction for the ruins of Wake. -Madoka Magicka, specifically the domains of the witches has a feel for the dreamcore aesthetics that surround some of the more powerful major deities, and the magic they hold. -Quick music video recommendations that oddly hit the right mood for SwS are: UKRampage - QUI, ファイトソング (Fight Song) - Eve, 心海 - Eve (Actually most of Eve's music videos), Secret - Harumaki Gohan, I wish I had been midnight. "Justice", Open Mike Eagle & Paul White - "Dang Is Invincible" Ultimately I'm always refining my tastes for what Wake is like and they don't feel complete, but I always wonder if my vision for it will ever feel wholly complete. It's a sort of exploration of my own tastes and conveying them and handing them to others to collab with them. Thumbing through my roots like this is always so enlightening though so thanks for the question!

Ya'll, I swear this was just supposed to be a fun little story I had in mind but it ended up being 4,379 words so-
It's literally 12:00 am here and I just had the sudden urge to finish this so enjoy I guess.
Pairing: non-idol!roommate!Kino x reader
⚠️Warnings⚠️: sub!Kino, fem!dom!reader, camboy!Kino (kind of??), masturbastion, bondage, use of toys (vibrator, dildo), pegging, cum eating, degradation, crossdressing (?? he wears panties)
Secrets
"Honey, I'm home." You playfully called out as you opened the door to the apartment you shared with your best friend Hyunggu. When you didn't get a response you shrugged, figuring he was still at the dance studio making another choreography to post to his YouTube channel. You quickly put away all the groceries, quietly humming a song you couldn't quite remember the name of. You poked your head into his bedroom, just checking to see if he was there and stepping out; well, that was the plan anyways. As your eyes scanned the room you could see his laptop and camera laying on his bed, his laptop still running and, on closer inspection, unlocked. You thought for a second before sitting on the mattress, opening up his laptop and moving to his files to see what he had been filming.
You were expecting to find a new choreography video, hence why you went to look at it. You always loved the choreographies he made up, the way his body would move so skillfully to the beat of whatever music was playing. Surprise was definitely an understatement when his sweet moans spilled from the speakers as soon as you clicked on the video. Your face exploded red as you quickly paused the video trying to understand what was happening.
You tentatively started the video again, gulping as you watched your roommate playing with himself. His moans were absolutely sinful as his hands wandered all over his body, loud whimpers falling from his lips when he ran them over his nipples. He reached over to grab some lube, squirting it on his fingers before spreading his legs and circling them over his hole. Your breath hitched in your throat as he slowly pushed them in, his gasps and whimpers being music to your ears. You bit your bottom lip as he began thrusting his fingers inside of him, slowly speeding up as the minutes passed and making his sounds louder. The squelching sound from the lube was heard through the camera as he frantically fingered himself, his other hand reaching behind him to grasp the pillow beneath him when he curled his fingers. His jaw fell open and his eyes were glassy while his back arched off the bed, his head falling to the side. You were squirming in your spot, thighs clenching together as your hand itched to travel between your legs.
He slowly pulled his fingers out of himself just as he looked like he was about to cum, precum dribbling out of his tip and making a small pool on his stomach. You furrowed your eyebrows as he reached over to grab a box that was all too familiar to you. He opened it, cock twitching as he bit his lip with a moan. Your jaw dropped in shock as he pulled out a few of the toys - or to be more specific, your toys. The box he was holding was your box of 'toys' that you had kept in your closet. You could see the excitement rushing through his veins as he dug around for a minute to find what he wanted. When he was done, he had taken out your vibrator and your dildo that you usually used for your strap on.
He set the silicone cock to the side, holding the vibrator in his hand. He turned it on to its lowest setting, slightly shivering at the sound of it turning on. He only hesitated for a second before pressing the toy to the tip of his cock. He gasped loudly, followed by a series of moans and whimpers as he thrashed on the bed. Just as he was about to cum, he pulled it away from himself, making you groan as you realized he was purposefully edging himself. He thought for a second before turning off the toy, coating it in a thin layer of precum that had collected on his stomach before pushing it into his hole. His head rolled back as he bit his lip, holding back a groan. He adjusted to the feeling of it for a second before reaching down to turn it on. His jaw dropped open in a loud moan as soon as the toy buzzed to life inside of him, hands desperately gripping the sheets beneath him. One of his hands moved up to his head, raking his fingers through his hair before tugging on it harshly. A mantra of 'oh my god' fell from his lips as he arched his back off the mattress, thighs shaking as the pleasure coursed through his body.
You couldn't help but imagine that it was you giving him that pleasure, hovering over him as you thrusted the vibrator in and out of him while tugging at his hair, leaving countless hickeys across his clear skin to remind him who he belongs to. You let out a quiet moan as your hand disappeared between your thighs, softly rubbing over your sensitive clit. You hadn't realized how soaked your panties were until now. Hyunggu's hips bucked as he set the vibrations a little higher, making a high-pitched moan leave him as his cries got louder. He seemed to get lost in the pleasure as he closed his eyes, his whole body shaking as he finally released all over his stomach. He frantically reached down, turning off the toy and pulling it out of him. He whined as he looked down at the mess he made.
"I wasn't supposed to cum this early…" He muttered with a pout as he laid his head back down. He thought for a second before swiftly sitting up to grab your dildo, lubing it up before lining it up with his hole so he could ride it. His jaw dropped open while he furrowed his eyebrows and squeezed his eyes shut, a shaky moan leaving him as he sunk onto the toy. His cock started to twitch back to life again and you could tell from his reaction that he was still sensitive from his previous orgasm. He whimpered as he slowly lifted himself almost all the way off the toy before slamming himself back down. He bit his lip with a groan while his eyes rolled back in his head from the overwhelming pleasure he was feeling.
"Oh fuck, mommy!" He cried out with his head thrown back as he bounced on the toy. Arousal shot through you as he continuously called out the title, face and chest flushing red as he got closer and closer to his release. "Oh god, Oh fuck- mommy! Fuck mommy, I'm gonna cum!" His tongue hung out of his mouth, adding to the drool that was already covering his chin. You sped up the movement of your fingers, feeling your own release creeping closer and closer. His moans became more frequent and high-pitched as the seconds passed. "C-cumming! C- AH!" He cried out, eyes crossing as the pleasure swallowed him whole, his milky white seed spilling onto the sheets beneath him. He slowly rode out his high before looking at the small mess he made, bending down to lick it up. That was all it took for your orgasm to wash over you as he muttered a quiet 'Always clean up my messes for mommy' before the screen went black. You sat there for a second, catching your breath before you realized that you had just cum in your best friend's bed.
You hurriedly exited the file and closed the laptop, jumping off of the bed and moving to change the sheets. After you had finished, you closed his door and leaned against it with a loud sigh. Your head snapped to the front door as you heard it unlock, freezing as you made eye contact with a very tired and very sweaty Hyunggu. He raised his eyebrow at you.
"Hey." You muttered, finally stepping away from his door.
"Hey." He muttered back skeptically, looking you up and down. "What are you doing at my door?" You cleared your throat, trying your best not to think of him on his knees, desperately humping your leg as he begged you to fuck him.
"I was just checking to see if you were home. It's movie night, remember."
"Ah, right! Let me just take a shower real quick." He said with a bright smile before jogging to get some clothes from his room. You let out a breath you didn't realize you were holding when you heard the water running in the bathroom that attached his room to yours. You made your way to the living room, letting out a huff as you flopped onto the couch. You sat there for a few seconds, giving yourself a mental pep talk. Alright, you were gonna have to sit through a few movies with your roommate; easy peasy! All you have to do is concentrate on the movie so you wouldn't think about him at all. Yeah, easy. You can do this!
You can't do this. You were practically doomed the moment he left his room, wearing some short shorts with one of your hoodies he had stolen from you a while back. The simple yet adorable outfit made your breath hitch in your throat as you thought about destroying the innocent little look he had gone for. It only got worse when he had jumped into your arms as soon as he sat down to cuddle into you; a normal thing the both of you did on movie nights but this time just felt different. A few times he even insisted you hand feed him some of the snacks you had made, making you involuntarily shiver when his lips slightly wrapped around the tip of your fingers.
About half way through the third movie, you had run out of popcorn. You decided to use this as an opportunity to get away from him for a minute. You let out a small sigh of relief as you leaned against the counter, waiting for the popcorn to finish. You only tensed up for a second when Hyunggu made his way into the kitchen to grab a drink. He opened the cabinet and reached up to grab a cup. Fuckfuckfuckfuckfuck. Your mind went reeling when his hoodie lifted a little bit showing off his lower back. What had caught your attention though, was the slight black lace that could be seen beneath his shorts. Was he wearing lingerie?! You let out a quiet groan which made Hyunggu turn around and look at you with wide eyes in confusion. Before you knew what you were doing, you crossed the kitchen to slam your hands on the counter on either side of him. He made a small squeaking sound as you pinned him to his spot, hands gripping the counter behind him. He gulped as he saw the dark look in your eyes, making his knees weak.
"Do you even know what you're doing to me? Fuck I just wanna rip everything off of you and take you right here." He whimpered at the growl in your voice, a red tint to his cheeks.
"(Y- Y/N) - I- W-what?" He barely whispered out hands flying up to grip your shoulders as your hands moved to grip his hips, your thigh pushing between his legs. His breathing was already heavier as you pressed your body to his.
"Don't play dumb with me," he tensed up as you brought your hands up to massage his hips and playing with the fabric of the panties, "first the video and now this? You're practically begging me to fuck you senseless." Hyunggu tensed up in your arms, panic flashing over his features.
"V-video? What video?" You could hear the nervousness dripping from his voice as his hands gripped your shoulders.
"The one you recorded of yourself playing with my toys." You growled in his ear, fingers digging into the flesh of his hips. "Did you really think you were gonna get away with that baby?" A look of horror flashed across his face, cheeks turning a firetruck red.
"Oh my god. O-Oh my god! Y-You weren't supposed to see that. I-I'm so sorry! W-we can just pretend it n-never happened a-and you don't have to talk to me ever aga-" You cut him off with a bruising kiss to his lips, making him whimper as he slowly melted into you. His eyes were glassy and dazed once you pulled away, hands gripping the front of your shirt.
"Are you kidding? That was so fucking hot. I don't think I'll ever be able to let you go after seeing that." He whined as your hands reached down to squeeze his ass, simultaneously pulling his body flush against yours. He bit his lip as he brought his hands up to tangle in your hair, pulling you into another heated kiss.
There was no fight for dominance as your tongue pushed its way into his mouth, making you moan as he stopped to suck on the wet muscle. You grabbed his thigh, bringing it up to wrap his leg around your waist as the kiss got more intense. You used his leg to pull him into you as you began grinding your hips into his. Whimpers and moans left his mouth as he desperately bucked his hips into yours.
Hyunggu's mind was fuzzy as all of his thoughts were clouded with you. He couldn't believe that this was actually happening; you were kissing him. You were attracted to him the same way he was attracted to you. It seemed impossible to him and a part of himself told him that this had to be a dream. His hands were everywhere, pulling you as close to him as he could to make sure you wouldn't leave. His heart was beating a hundred miles a minute and he was sure you could hear it. His skin burned wherever your skin touched his, making him whimper into your mouth with every movement. He melted into your touch, his senses zoned in on you as he slowly forgot the world around him.
BEEP! BEEP! BEEP!
The obnoxious sound of the microwave made you both jump as you were reminded of where you were. You opened and closed the small machine before it could beep again and turned back to the mess of a boy in front of you. You bit your bottom lip as you took in the sight of him; lips glossy and bruised, hoodie falling off one of his shoulders and showing off his collarbones, eyes dark with lust but still so innocent with the way he was looking up at you, and a light sheen of sweat glistening on his skin. His face got redder the more you stared at him, making him squirm in his spot. His breath hitched in his throat as you leaned into him again to whisper in his ear.
"Do you wanna head back to my room?" His legs were weak from the low tone of voice you used, making him grip onto you in order to hold himself up. He rapidly nodded his head as he looked up at you, dick twitching in his shorts at the thought of what you'd do to him. The smirk you gave in return made a shiver crawl up his spine as he followed close behind you like a lost puppy. It wasn't long before you had him pinned to the bed beneath you, whimpering as your hands slid under his sweater to play with his nipples while you sicked and bit marks on his neck.
"If you don't mind me asking," you muttered against his neck, "why exactly did you make that video?" His face flushed red as he turned his head to try and bury his face in the pillow. You chuckled at his embarrassed state, grabbing his jaw and making him face you again. "I asked you a question baby, and I don't like being ignored." You said as you left a trail of kisses down his jaw. He whimpered quietly before nervously gulping.
"W-well, I found this w-website a little while ago a-and people pay me a d-decent amount to watch me - w-well y'know." He muttered, refusing to look you in the eyes. "I a-already posted the video you watched earlier this m-morning before I left for the dance s-studio." You chuckled at his shy confession, reminding yourself to look into it when you have free time. You paused for a second, smirking as an idea came to mind.
"Would you be willing to wait here for a second babyboy?" A small smile crossed his face at the nickname while his head tilted in confusion.
"U-um, sure. W-why?" He gulped at the devilish smirk on your face; a whimper leaving him as you held his jaw in your hand, forcing him to hold eye contact with you.
"I think you still owe me an apology baby. I don't remember giving you permission to play with mommy's toys, did I?" He still looked confused as he squirmed beneath you. "I wanna make sure everyone knows how sorry you are." You muttered while nibbling on his earlobe. A small gasp passed his lips while his hips bucked into yours, arousal shooting through him as he realized what you were implying. You giggled against his ear before licking a stripe down his neck, continuing to murmur against his skin. "Those people probably didn't even know you had done anything wrong. Imagine their disappointment when they hear what a naughty boy you are."
"They know." You pulled back to give him a confused look, eyes blown wide with lust as he looked up at you with innocent looking eyes, though the words that fell from his lips were anything but. "I-I titled the video 'Playing with Roommate's Toys' so I'm sure the c-comments are already flooded with everyone telling me how dirty I am." He whined, cock twitching as he saw the dark look in your eyes. "I-I'm sorry mommy." He muttered, looking away from you. You left a light peck on his cheek before growling in his ear.
"Save it for the camera." He scrambled off the bed as you pointed to the door, rushing to grab his camera. You chuckled at his eagerness, stripping yourself of your shirt and pants before walking to your closet to retrieve your toy box. Hyunggu froze in the doorway as soon as he saw you, practically drooling over your half naked body. You patted the bed, snapping him out of his trance as he walked over to obediently sit on the bed. You smirked as you dug through the small box, pulling out a few ropes with a sadistic glint in your eye that made him shiver from his place on the bed. "Well baby, let's get you ready."
It wasn't long before you had Hyunggu undressed and tied to the headboard with the camera in your hand. You giggled at how he writhed on the bed in front of you, hips continuously bucking into the air as whimpers and whines flooded past his lips. His cheeks were flushed as he looked away from the camera, the vibrating cockring on his dick having much more of an affect on him than you thought it would. You really underestimated how sensitive he was.
"No no no, look at the camera baby." He whined, eyes fluttering up to meet yours.
"But mommy…"
"What's the matter? You didn't seem to have a problem when you were being a little whore and playing with mommy's toys without permission." He whimpered at the degrading nickname, biting his lip while his hips bucked into the air.
"I-I'm sorry mommy! Please! I-I'm really sorry!" He whined, eyes desperate as he begged you to let him cum. His cock was red and leaking against his stomach, twitching more as he felt closer to his release. An endless mantra of 'sorry' and 'please' fell from his lips as he started growing desperate. You giggled before turning off and removing the cockring, making him slump against the headboard and pant, trying to catch his breath. You focused the camera on his face as you cupped his cheek in your hand.
"Awww, look at you. So worn out and I haven't even fucked you yet." You teased, lightly running your thumb over his bottom lip. He whimpered before leaning forward to take your thumb into his mouth. He whimpered and moaned around it, looking into the camera with dark eyes full of lust. The sight went straight to your core, making you groan as you shoved the finger in deeper. He skillfully licked and sucked your finger, making you think of how pretty he would look with a cock in his mouth; maybe next time.
"Fuck, you really want it don't you? Want mommy to pound into your tight little hole and fill you up like a filthy little cockslut." He moaned at your words, nodding his head while murmuring a muffled 'please' around your thumb. You took your hand away from his face, arousal shooting through your body as your thumb was still connected to his lips by a string of saliva. You set the camera on the chair you moved earlier so everyone would have a good view of you fucking him senseless before grabbing the lube.
You grabbed one of his thighs and pushed his knee to his chest, giving you a better view of his hole. A part of you wanted to eat him out, edging him again, but your need to fuck him was greater so you'd save it for another time. You squeezed some lube directly onto his hole, making him gasp and squirm from the sudden coldness. You chuckled at his reaction before pushing the fake cock between his cheeks, thrusting it between them to it up. He whimpered loudly, head thrashing side to side as he begged you fuck him. You squirted a little more lube on the cock for good measure before pushing into him. His jaw dropped open in a silent moan as he threw his head back, burning hot pleasure running through him as you bottomed out.
"Oh fuck!" He whined out as you began thrusting into him, already starting with a fast pace. The only words able to leave him after that were the mantras of 'mommy' and frequent streams of curses. You leaned down to leave marks all over his neck and chest so he would think of you everytime he looked in a mirror for weeks. A loud cry of pleasure left him as you dug your nails into his thighs, pushing both of his knees to his chest. The new angle made you hit his prostate harder and swifter than before while reaching deeper than he ever thought possible. His broken moans echoed around the room as he got closer and closer to his release. His dick twitching and leaking against his stomach.
"Oh- Mommy! Oh f-fuck mommy! 'M gonna cum! Hnng- so close! Fuck mommy, please!" He whined, biting his lip as he locked eyes with your dark, lust filled orbs. You smirked sadistically as you looked down at him.
"Go ahead baby, cum all over yourself. Let mommy see how much you love feeling her cock absolutely destroying you." His eyes rolled back in his head as white ropes of cum decorated his stomach, some even spilling onto his neck. You slowed down, letting him ride out his orgasm before pulling out. You looked down at the puddle of cum that had collected on his chest, gathering it on your fingers and holding it up to his lips.
"C'mon baby, you said you always cleaned your messes up for mommy, didn't you?" He whimpered but slowly opened his eyes as he licked his cum off of your fingers. "Good boy." You murmured, giving him a light kiss on the forehead.
You reached up and untied his hands, kissing his wrists that were slightly red from him harshly tugging on his restraints. He let out a content hum as you left a few comforting kisses on his cheek. The circular motions you rubbed into the skin of his hips helped him calm down. He chuckled before muttering 'camera' in your ear.
"I forgot that was there." You chuckled against his skin, nuzzling into his neck. You lazily reached over to turn the device off, taking off the strap on before cuddling back into the cute boy beneath you. He giggled as you left an onslaught of quick kisses on his face and neck.
"Stooooop, that tickles." He giggled, weakly trying to shove you off of him. You smiled against his skin, leaving a few more before pulling away completely to hover your face directly over his. He lazily smiled up at you, eyes twinkling with love and adoration. You brushed his sweaty hair out of his face softly smiling at him as his eyes started struggling to stay open.
"What are you looking at." He chuckled, looking away from you with a blush on his cheeks. You smiled, flopping next to him and kissing him on the lips.
"I'm looking at my absolutely perfect boyfriend." You muttered, stroking his hair as he fell asleep. He grumbled quietly in embarrassment before pulling you closer to him so he could comfortably fall asleep. You chuckled at him, wrapping your arms around his waist before drifting to sleep.
You were a little disappointed when you woke up to cold sheets beside you instead of Hyunggu, almost making you think last night was a dream. You lazily stood up, pulling on some sweatpants and an undershirt before wandering to the main living area. The inviting smell of eggs brought you to the kitchen, where you found Hyunggu peacefully cooking. You smiled as you realized he was still wearing the hoodie he stole from you as he hummed a random song under his breath. He jumped when you snuck up behind him, wrapping your arms lovingly around his waist. He smiled up at you pressing a quick kiss to your jaw with a quiet 'good morning'. You muttered a greeting back, swaying with him as he continued humming.
"I'm never getting this back am I?" You asked as you tugged on the hoodie he was wearing. He turned to look at you with an adorable smile.
"Nope." You laughed at his reply, burying your face in his hair. A contented hum left you as you breathed in his scent, wondering what you had done in a past life to deserve him.

STREAMING MEDIA ❏
Streaming media is multimedia that is constantly received by and presented to an end-user while being delivered by a provider. The verb to stream refers to the process of delivering or obtaining media in this manner.[clarification needed] Streaming refers to the delivery method of the medium, rather than the medium itself. Distinguishing delivery method from the media distributed applies specifically to telecommunications networks, as most of the delivery systems are either inherently streaming (e.g. radio, television, streaming apps) or inherently non-streaming (e.g. books, video cassettes, audio CDs). There are challenges with streaming content on the Internet. For example, users whose Internet connection lacks sufficient bandwidth may experience stops, lags, or slow buffering of the content. And users lacking compatible hardware or software systems may be unable to stream certain content.
Live streaming is the delivery of Internet content in real-time much as live television broadcasts content over the airwaves via a television signal. Live internet streaming requires a form of source media (e.g. a video camera, an audio interface, screen capture software), an encoder to digitize the content, a media publisher, and a content delivery network to distribute and deliver the content. Live streaming does not need to be recorded at the origination point, although it frequently is.
Streaming is an alternative to file downloading, a process in which the end-user obtains the entire file for the content before watching or listening to it. Through streaming, an end-user can use their media player to start playing digital video or digital audio content before the entire file has been transmitted. The term “streaming media” can apply to media other than video and audio, such as live closed captioning, ticker tape, and real-time text, which are all considered “streaming text”.
❏ COPYRIGHT CONTENT ❏
Copyright is a type of intellectual property that gives its owner the exclusive right to make copies of a creative work, usually for a limited time.[1][2][3][4][5] The creative work may be in a literary, artistic, educational, or musical form. Copyright is intended to protect the original expression of an idea in the form of a creative work, but not the idea itself.[6][7][8] A copyright is subject to limitations based on public interest considerations, such as the fair use doctrine in the United States.
Some jurisdictions require “fixing” copyrighted works in a tangible form. It is often shared among multiple authors, each of whom holds a set of rights to use or license the work, and who are commonly referred to as rights holders.[citation needed][9][10][11][12] These rights frequently include reproduction, control over derivative works, distribution, public performance, and moral rights such as attribution.[13]
Copyrights can be granted by public law and are in that case considered “territorial rights”. This means that copyrights granted by the law of a certain state, do not extend beyond the territory of that specific jurisdiction. Copyrights of this type vary by country; many countries, and sometimes a large group of countries, have made agreements with other countries on procedures applicable when works “cross” national borders or national rights are inconsistent.[14]
Typically, the public law duration of a copyright expires 50 to 100 years after the creator dies, depending on the jurisdiction. Some countries require certain copyright formalities[5] to establishing copyright, others recognize copyright in any completed work, without a formal registration.
It is widely believed that copyrights are a must to foster cultural diversity and creativity. However, Parc argues that contrary to prevailing beliefs, imitation and copying do not restrict cultural creativity or diversity but in fact support them further. This argument has been supported by many examples such as Millet and Van Gogh, Picasso, Manet, and Monet, etc.[15]

PENTAGON Kino x Ballroom Dancing
HELLO, I HAVE SEMI-RETURNED. that writer’s block lasted a while, damn
I’m procrastinating on so many things i’m writing by posting this. Kino was the easiest to place because of his established dance ability. Like it’s a no-brainer where he’s gonna be in terms of being a ballroom dancer. This one I think is pretty short, but I just really wanted to get it out of my drafts at this point. Also,
Thank you for 150 followers!!! I LOVE EACH AND EVERY ONE OF YOU *heart heart*
Master List
---
A 10-dancer and does other dances out of his style; think Derek Hough, that’s what Kino is. Started dancing at a super young age and, just decided to compete professionally in ballroom. He didn’t shirk training in the other styles, though, so he has a big repertoire.
Aside from ballroom, he does hip hop, contemporary, jazz, and other obscure dances people might not have heard of.
Was a dance major in college and attended ballroom training on the side, so he is the epitome of cross-trained. He would sometimes do all-nighters to choreograph routines for exams because he spent the whole day choreographing other routines for other exams.
Not all the partners he’s gone through cross-train in other styles, so when he finally found you, he did his best to keep you. A lot of dancers can cross-train and produce okay results, but there aren’t many who can actually do so much and make amazing routines.
He actually met your first at the studio where he does ballroom and you became good friends, but ended up competing with different partners for the first year of professional dancesport or so. And then Kino switched and switched partners while yours decided to stop competing, so you kind of naturally found each other again.
For Standard, his favorite to dance is the quickstep. He just loves how fast yet intricate it is. You can easily mess it up if you place your foot wrong. The speed of the dance requires balance for both partners, so a little misstep can make you sprawl on the ground. He loves the challenge.
He loves the paso doble in the same way, but with overall form and shape. the paso has a lot to do with body shaping and if your posture isn’t right, it just looks super weird and constipated. He makes sure to stretch a lot before doing any of the Latin dances precisely because of this. A couple runs of paso leaves his core and arms sweetly sore.
Kino’s always loved urban contemporary outside of ballroom, so when he wants to wind down and de-stress, he puts on a random song and freestyles. Sometimes he films these solo sessions and posts a snippet on Twitter, sometimes he closes his eyes and lets his body move on its own.
Once did something like this for your anniversary one year. You two didn’t really copy the rumba-contemporary fusion, but it inspired Kino to do something special. Kino can make choreo on the spot, so after few hours you two had a routine down and polished. You didn’t rush to get the shoot over with though, because of your busy schedule, so Kino kind of made a big deal and got (and paid with food) his friend to be the videographer for the shoot. You shot it in the studio at sunset a week later.
When you posted it on your socials (FB and IG) on your anniversary, the comments blew up with “omg im crying this is so beautiful”, “happy anniversary, you two. beautiful as always”, and “amazing amazing, your chemistry is off the charts! happy anniversary!”
Hates, hates, hates working out, and you absolutely cannot force him to do push-ups. Moans and groans during conditioning days, but still does the workout because he needs to. When asked him about it as fresh partners he said, “Dancing is different. I have fun dancing. But do I have fun doing push-ups? Absolutely not.”
Posts something on his SNS at least once everyday. And it can be anything--a selfie, mirror photos, those pretty flowers he saw walking around the other day and forgot to post. The longest he’d gone without posting anything was two weeks and that was because he was in Europe for a competition and for some reason just couldn’t get any cell reception anywhere. His fans were super worried that something might have happened to him until they saw the competition photos.
Does a lot of collaborations with his friends. Usually he’s the one doing the inviting, but sometimes Jinho (Latin dancer) asks him if he wants to film a music video for a song he covered.
Being the multi-talented person Kino is, he can either be covering the song, dancing to it, or just doing some acting and glamour shots for the videos. Sometimes all three.
Has a SoundCloud where he posts the songs he wrote himself. He doesn’t actively advertise it, but he really doesn’t have to--his friends and his fans talk it up a lot. There’s rare people who listen to his content there without knowing he’s actually a famous dancer, so when Kino reads those comments he’s pleasantly surprised by them.
Kino has been offered to become a pro in more than one TV dance program, but he’s always declined them, stating it’s not really the right time for him, and that he wants to grow more as a person and as a professional before showing up on TV. Plus, he knows he gets stressed and emotional easily, so he doesn’t know yet how he’s going to put up a strong front for the camera.
You support him in whatever he does of course, but you two still watch those programs and laugh at them. Or cringe, depending on how the show pans out.

PENTAGON: First Impressions VS Now!
since it's ptg's 3rd anniversary, and i've been an uni for over a year now, i thought it would be a fun idea to compare my first thoughts about all the members to how i think of them now! i got the idea from i got7 inspirits on youtube, so check them out if you're interested!
OT10
then:
I first heard "gorilla" back when it released, but since i avoided stanning rookies at the time- i decided to give it some time before stanning. flash foward to august 2018 where my interest is piqued again. at that time last year, i had thought that they were pretty cute but having literally only heard gorilla and then shine, i was caught off guard by their sound change. It wasn't bad per say- just different. overall, i knew pentagon would be a group that i'd like- but more along the lines of a casual thing.
now:
y'all already know how whipped i am for these idiots!!! their music and videos and even choreos are my style completely, especially their cute concepts!! we love dancing infants! and also, they're all such throughly good people which makes me so happy. this isn't a casual stan thing in the slightest, and it's funny to think I ever believed it would be.
Hui:
then:
when i saw him in shine, i thought he was a d o r k. i think it was the way they styled his hair, but i was just very convinced that he was pretty lame lmao. after that though, i saw how cute he was and he became my bias for a while. i remember thinking at one point that he seemed like an exasperated dad?? i didn't really have any basis for it but that observation was there nonetheless.
now:
exasperated dad? more like hyper 3 year old. hes literally one of the loudest and most energetic. what was i on. but i think hes the most precious and clingiest little toddler now!! i was right about the dork thing though, but its super cute how goofy and lame he is. also!! talent for days!! his dancing, singing (his falsetto is !!), composing is all incredible. the most important thing though? a godly leader. he's so caring and kind and full of love for his members it hurts me. we don't really see a serious leader hui, but thats okay because i think it means he tries to keep uni and ptg in good spirits by showing them cheerfulness. and that's amazing to me.
Jinho:
then:
my most notable thought about jinho in shine was "how is he that small". i remember thinking it was cute how he pushed the giant one too, lmao. i didn't think much else of him beyond that, other than noticing how adorable he can be.
now:
ok yeah, jinho is cute and tiny and whatever- but now i Understand the power that he holds. how he looks with his hair pushed back for example. or how about that bruno mars cover he did with hui. (hhhhnngg). also?? he's not even That small. the ones that make him look itty bitty are Literally just giants. but aside from his appearance, jinho is probably my favorite vocalist like!! i appreciate him s o much. (listen to his cover of gethsemane and last night of october for clear skin) of course jinho is also very cute though!! so i was right about that at least! he just also has many other great sides to him that i worry are overlooked!
Hongseok:
then:
i didn't,,,notice him. at ALL. like i just glossed over his existence completely when i first saw shine. and even after that- it took me a minute to pay him any mind. when i did finally notice him though, i noticed his smile. i remember i was watching videos with my girlfriend and i pointed him out to her! that was mostly because i felt bad for not really having any strong opinion on him though oops. anyways i ended up just thinking he was a mom. and i was really impressed by his english and strength.
now:
real talk, it pained me to write all of that out!! bc now?? omg hong is my everything- but thats kind of obvious. anyways!! hes so f u nn y !!! its absolutely a stupid kind of funny and hes definitely annoying but i adore it. also the mom thing is only kind of true. he has the capacity to be maternal and take care of them, but he's way more likely to make fun of literally every single member. he's more like an older brother that never leaves his siblings alone and thinks he's funnier than he is. and we hate him for it. anyways, his voice is So underrated im. angery. he has such a beautiful voice, just in general, and on top of that- his singing is lovely. like yes, more hong solo please.
Hyojong:
then:
i definitely took note of him immediately! his voice is very distinctive, and he stands out a lot in shine. which is really saying something. i thought he was really talented for sure! and i almost felt he was too cool for me to be looking at. i kind of got the vibe he'd be pretty icy i guess?
now:
he's not intimidating at all. like not even a little bit. bc he's not taking himself as seriously as i thought he was lmao. also hes so l o u d . and a plant man. but i think the best thing about edawn is his unpredictability! i never really know what to expect from him and i like that.
Shinwon:
then:
i thought he was HOT. i already thought he was handsome in the 0.3 seconds of screentime he got in shine. but a friend of mine showed me clips of him from that couples game video and. o o f. i really couldn't get over how pretty he was. it didn't help that this was the same video where him and kino were doing that dance. personality wise, i don't remember much standing out to me. other than how easily scared he is.
now:
shinwon is soooo embarrassing. i wouldn't say hes completely shameless about it though, but he's shameless to the point of actually doing the stupid shit so im. still enraged about it. he legitimately makes me physically look away sometimes when im watching a video and he's being weird. theyre all my kids, and i love them. but he's the child im ashamed of lmao. moving on, hes a real cutie pie. that fact that he gets so scared so easily is both really funny and super endearing. but he's just a playful baby and im honestly glad that hes has so much fun.
Changgu:
then:
i noticed him less than hongseok. like i dont think i had a single notable first impression of him.
now:
past dess was one entire Doofus huh. like changgu is a whole ass blessing to this planet and you mean to tell me that she overlooked him??!! anyways, though, he has an elephant heart for sure. such a genuinely empathetic and truly kind person!! he never fails to warm my heart with his sincerity and i love that about him. he's also part of the idiot squad though, with how he goes along with hong's antics. we hate that. and all his impressions + dumb faces. speaking of faces though,,, his acting?? i love it!! he's really talented, like when i watch pretty pretty i kind of forget that changgu is even playing a role. and his d a n c i n g!! underrated dance king! underrated king in general, how about that.
Yanan:
then:
my first bias in ptg!!! i fell in love with him instantly! i loved how tall he is, and the white hair and his i c o n i c "my baby"!! like i was whipped from the gate. i remember liking his duality back then too!!
now:
ok so, since he was bias immediately, i noticed more about him than anyone else. which means i have less to write oops. but thats okay because at least i had a bit of taste back then. but, yanan is hilarious. he's so clever and funny and you can tell how effortless it is. most iconic ptg sayings are something from yanan and thats just amazing. the big thing i notice now that i didn't really before, though, is that fact that his duality is so shocking because he's literally just as unpredictable as hyojong. its impossible to really tell what hes going to do next, and i think it catches people off guard more with yanan because even that aspect of him is unexpected.
Yuto:
then:
i thought he was kinda scary!! idk he seemed so cold and i couldn't really relate to that so i didn't grow very attached to him.
now:
he's so pure!!! hes said that he has a hard time expressing his feelings but i don't really see it? because he always seems so happy to be around ptg and having fun with them even if he isn't usually the one playing around!! he loves them so much tbh and its the sweetest thing :( everything about yuto is so sweet, because he cares a lot about the people around him and doesn't want anyone to get hurt- even if its fake or a joke. and like, he's really hardworking too!! ptg have said multiple times that he works the hardest, and that really is saying something imo! and like, you can just see it even without being told that. whether its his workout journey pentory or the fact that he's literally been learning guitar. also!! omg the lyrics he writes?? heartwarming, romantic and life changing!! seasons and cosmo made me a different person. but yeah, he's such an amazing, warm person and i cant believe i found him scary.
Kino:
then:
i thought he was the main vocal. like no joke, he was so charismatic and flaunting so much in shine that i was like "ah yes. the main vocalist" hhhggg. i remember thinking he was pretty though, and that his stage name was super cute. but i wasn't very interested in learning about him, despite how he really caught my eye. for some reason, though, i eventually got the thought that he was really pure.
now:
main vocal hdzfhh kino relax you're confusing ppl. of course he has an amazing voice and it always sounds incredible but!! what amuses me is the way he sings always sounds kinda like he's trying to be sexy and?? its so funny in ballads and stuff imo. but yeah, that "sensual"?? singing is what threw me off back then. buf more importantly, i just wanna mention the pure thing- because its a confusing situation. on one hand, kino has a heart of gold that not only adores uni but is also accepting. as well as how he's constantly bringing light into the world with his words and truly bright outlook. but on the other hand he's a demon that dances like That and is so dangerous when he wants to be!! so!! what's it gonna be kino, make up your mind :( anyways, listen to knnovations. esp bad timing and 224.12!!
Wooseok:
then:
i loved him instantly. he looked like an overgrown 10 year old in my eyes and that's just. precious. i thought he was pretty funny too!!
now:
if i took off my hong glasses for long enough, id be able to say that i think he's the funniest in ptg. because he's so hilarious in my eyes like? he makes me do an ugly wheeze laugh, and a lot of my favorite ptg moments involve him in some way lmao. but he is actually a baby, so i was onto something there with the overgrown 10 y/o thing. despite being really funny though, i do think he tends to be quiet more often than like hui or shinwon and he hardly ever smiles, unless he's like laughing and thats makes me think that he's kind of awkward?? not in like a bad way, but i just kind of see that i guess. but!! something that i think is passed over a lot with woo is the fact that he usually has a hand in composing, and also that he writes his raps?? like that's so cool, we love that!!
ok! so that was my lame little essay lmao. i hoped you liked if you read it all! im just glad to say that i really appreciate pentagon as a whole, and how much joy they bring into my life nowadays!! i feel like ive found a place to call my own with uni and with pentagon :)
#text: bouquet#universechallenge#wow this took forever and its kinda dumb but it was fun#i wouldnt be satisfied if i drew anything tbh

Kpop ship for stayxdontxstray
Hello amazing people! I am back once again with a ship, and this time it is for @stayxdontxstray ! I had a lot of fun with this ship so without further a do, let’s go sailing on the boat of ships! lol
Based off your request, I learned these things about you:
Around 5′4 with a petite frame and toned legs
Long brown hair and hazel eyes
You can be headstrong and a hothead
But you’re actually a smol bean who hates confrontation omg girl same
Very loyal
Lowkey craves affection and attention but can also be shy
A case of RBF
You have a good sense of humor
Loves to make the most out of life
You also tend to procrastinate and daydream
And in your request you have asked to be shipped with Monsta X, NCT, Pentagon, and VIXX! You sound just wonderful so I’m so excited to ship you!
Monsta X: Minhyuk
Okay so you two are the cutest beans in all the land, so therefore I ship. I have substantial evidence to support my claim as well. When you two are together, there is sunshine all around- even when one of you is having a bad day, you two just make each other happy. You each were bitten by the lovebug when you met, and you two always continue to never have a dull moment. Evidence number one as to why I ship you two is that not only did you get yourself a lover, but you got yourself a best friend. Minhyuk always knows 1)what to do, 2)what to say, 3)how to make you laugh, and 4)how to surprise you. He would just know you like a book. If you’re ever stressed and need a pick me up, Minhyuk’s gotchu. Date night? He’s gotchu. He’ll go buy pizza ingredients and you made homemade pizza and binge watch the latest show, it’s great. Minhyuk would be able to see past the RBF by the way. Hyuk would be really good at reading your facial expressions, so he would always know what mood you would be in. Like I said, he knows you. He always 110% there for you when you need support. Whether it be for work, or for school, or simply get the courage to ask for a pizza with specific toppings, He’S gOT YoU. He is also your personal comedian. He’s got the best corny jokes you could ever imagine. The joke can be absolutely awful tbh, but if it gets you to smile, he keeps that joke in the memory book for future use. You also love to crack jokes with him. You also like to prank him every now and then bc he’s easily scared. So you’ll hide in the clothes hamper and give him a little surprise. We all know he is a huge goofball, so like, he’s always doing something weird and goofy, and the moments where you both are alone at the apartment just not giving a crap and being goofy are some of the best times. Moving along, he loVES giving you affection. You know Minhyuk with puppies, right? Girl, you are like that puppy in the Buzzfeed video. Whether it be PDA or even simply talking/touching each other, he loves to focus on you, know what’s new and fresh in your life, and he loves seeing your eyes light up when you get excited. He’s also the king at surprising you. Flowers, a road trip, your favorite take out, he will always surprise you! A lot of spontaneous trips, mostly because when he see’s a place with good restaurants, he’s like ‘LET’S GO’ so you go. Lastly, king of PDA. So many snuggles, and kisses, and hugs, and hand holding. He loves to kiss your forehead and hold your hands, the way you fit perfectly around his arms makes him so happy and calm, he never wants to let go.
NCT: Haechan
Okay so, there are literally so many options I could choose from, but for some reason why, Haechan is getting in my face like ‘PICK ME WOMAN’ so, here we are. You two would be a very domestic couple. Simplicity at its finest, and you’re just love sick puppies for one another. You two also joke around a lot. Right off the bat, I know Haechan would like to poke at your RBF. Similar to Minhyuk, he would know how to read your face so he would know if you were mad or not, but he does like to poke. You equally poke back at him but you’re always laughing by the end of things. You two can also be quite spontaneous. There is a good balance of wild and mild between you two, and if you’re down to go out on an adventure, you’re out in the city with no plan, some money, and hearts set for fun. And then if you’re not feeling going out, you have a karaoke party in the apartment, which can be equally as fun as to going out in the city. And then there are times when you want to be spontaneous and go to a new area. As long as you’re together, nothing else matters. Haechan would also be very affectionate towards you. This technically isn’t PDA so, I’m touching on this now. Haechan is a sweet bub by nature, so don’t be surprised if he goes on these rants about how much he adores you or how happy he is to have you in his life. Haechan would be very open about his feelings since the beginning, and you’re not against it, in fact that’s one of the reasons you fell for him anyway. You also love giving affection back to him, so you two would be very in tact with your feelings. You’re sweet and soft, but again, you can be spicy and sassy. I literally laughed out loud at the thought of this, but your hotheaded nature and his savageness results in a lot of playful bickering. The best times to bicker is when you’re with Chan’s fellow members and when you two bicker with each other, it’s always hilarious to have the members side with one of you, then you have a whole debate about the topic. Idk why I love the thought, I just do. Moving along to date night, date night is side and sweet. For you two, date night is a form of relaxing and bonding, because you both can get really busy and you never want to take your stress out on each other, so you two like to order take out, trying out new restaurants every time, and you’ll play some video games or watch a movie or two. You two also enjoy going to parks! PDA wise, I think Chan would be a little shy tbh. He’s not scared to be judged, but he just gets nervous to see other peoples reactions. He loves to hug you and give you cheek and lip kisses, he also loves to hold your hands, and rub his thumb over the top of your hand. Ugh you two are so cute.
Pentagon: Kino
When I think of you and Kino, I think of shy beans who love to go out and have a ball. Again, there are a lot of options to choose from when it comes to you, but the more I thought about you and Kino together, the more my heart went uwu. Starting out, you two would be very shy with each other. He wouldn’t want to be too forward and make you uncomfortable in any way, and you wouldn’t know when to hold his hand or compliment him. You two would be this cute bundle of red cheek mess, and I’m living for it. However, you both come out of your shells and you got super close when you did. I’m gonna lay this on the table right now, he is your personal snuggle bear. He loves it when you hug and snuggle on him, so like if you want hugs in the mall while you’re eating in the food court, he’ll tuck you into his side. Or if you’re at home, you will literally bend his arms and body in a position that you want to get snuggles. He doesn’t entirely mind it though. You also do not have to worry about getting motivation to get things done. Idk, I see Kino as someone who has the energy to take on big tasks at once and he easily becomes the perfect person to help you get motivation. You two can be such a proactive couple, and that is super cute to me, don't judge me. And honestly it doesn’t matter if you two are working on something together, like working on cleaning the apartment, or working on something separately, like tasks for jobs, you two work well together. You both help each other out a lot, so you would work well together, almost complimenting each other in a way. I also have this thought about you daydreaming, listen. One day Kino would catch you zoned the f out as you’re daydreaming about something. Your facial expression sort of worried him, and he would give you a light shake to wake you from your trance. When you settled down from nearly being scared to death(like I said, you were zoned out), Kino would still be worried. But as soon as you tell him that you were daydreaming, he instantly relaxes and he is very intrigued on what you were daydreaming about. You’d be a little shy to tell him but his whole face would light up when you told him what you were thinking about. He would want to know the little details, he just loves to hear what’s going on with you. He also loves to have your attention in general. Date night is always him, but what happens during date night depends on your moods- sometimes you go out, sometimes you don’t. But you’re always giggling and laughing, hands holding one another at some point. You two also slow dance to your song every time ;). PDA wise, if you’re not wanting the affection, he tends to be more reserved with PDA. He enjoys saving the sweet stuff behind closed doors.
VIXX: Ravi
So when I was choosing a member, I wanted to go with Ken, but then I was like nah nah boy and I thought harder. Now, here we are. I love you and Ravi together, like I love it a lot. You would compliment each other nicely, much to people beliefs. I love comparing couples to things, so you and Ravi would be like ying and yang, you’re just too cute! And I just love the thought of this, you two would have good girl-bad boy aesthetic going on. Is my mind going back to the 50s? Yes. And am I ashamed of it? No. Ravi is also helplessly in love with you, so you will not change my mind on that. He is so whipped for you, you can crush his tough guy stature like a walnut or any other nut that is easy to crack lol. He is just so soft for you, and I am here for it. You would give him so much motivation and inspiration for things like staying happy, for motivation, or for lyrics for his songs. I can see a lot of his inspiration coming from memories that you two have made together. From your travels, to dates, to simply looking at each other, Ravi can get so much inspiration- which by the way you would have endless songs dedicated to you. Ravi would also be constantly scared to lose you. He would allow some of his anxiety to take over and he would always want to be the very best for you, so he could be a provider for you and he could take care of you. Ravi wouldn’t always admit that he is scared to lose you, but a lot of his actions speak for itself. You love to call him out on it, mostly because that’s one of the times that you can make him flustered. You love to cup his cheek, give him a kiss on the lips and tell him how much he means to you. Then he just wraps his arms around you and it’s so soFT anD I NEED A TISSUE. He’s also so quick to stand up for you on social media. He takes no bulshit from haters, and he is very quick to shut a hater down. He also highkey loves it if you ever get pissed off at one of his haters and you pop off. It’s funny for him when he see’s how your ears glow red or just simply loves to see you rant about something. Moving right along, pet names are your shit, listen up. You two have multiple nick names for each other and they get changed often. Again, I can really see Ravi being whipped for you, so he wouldn’t be afraid to call you some cute ass nickname like lovebug or baby doll, whatever he see’s that fits the most. You love to take it one step further and have joking nicknames, but those nicknames mean the world to him. I want to touch on this super quick- two words. SLOW. DANCING. I love this concept so much. He loves to have you wrapped in his arms with his cheek resting on your head, eyes closed, dancing to an old school love song. My 50s dream is living right now, but dear lord it is so sweet. PDA wise, I think Ravi would be possessive. He would always like to keep you close, and he ain’t afraid to make out with you in front of a guy who looks at you the wrong way. Don't mess with his girl.

September 2018 in Review
You should all be proud of me this month, as I actually watched MORE than one movie made in this decade. There was little rhyme or reason to the films I watched this month. I was pretty scattered honestly and my viewing habits show it. I keep a full diary on letterboxd and IMDB.
A major highlight of September was TCM’s month-long series hosted by the African American Film Critics Association (AAFCA) The Black Experience on Film. I only caught a few of the films but went out of my way to watch the introductory conversations. TCM’s Trailblazing Women series with Illeana Douglas was a favorite feature of mine and I’d love to see even more hosted series for marginalized groups in film history. It might be too much to suggest Disability on Film… But I’ve been considering doing a blogging series on that myself!
The reviews below the jump are essentially transcriptions of the notes I took right after watching the films. They’re presented in the order in which I watched them.
Brigsby Bear (2017)
23 January 2017 | 97 min. | Color
When Brigsby Bear came out there were a number of people, in real life and online, who gushed about it non-stop. I was pretty wary to see it. In the past, often when people around my age pick out a new darling film or TV series, I’ve been burned. Sometimes it’s something cynically violent in a way that’s disturbing to overlook. Sometimes it’s something with too much ironic detachment for my taste. Or it’s something straight-up ableist, sexist, or bigoted. (How are we still traumatizing all “Strong Female Characters” in the 2010s. Come on.)
BUT, Brigsby Bear was really good!? I honestly wasn’t expecting such a heartfelt and humanist film. A modern comedy movie that has faith in the good of all people? Amazing. I hope that the success of this film can be the beginning of a new chapter of millennial comedy so we can wholly move on from calling cynical intellectualized bigotry humor.
I got emotional as the friendship between Spencer and James developed. Maybe because I’m a clinically strange person myself. I don’t always have the energy in social situations to keep my neurotypical mask on and when I show my actually autistic self to people it doesn’t usually go all that well. That’s why it’s a special, joyful moment to find acceptance. Brigsby captures this so well. That feeling where people suddenly like you for your weirdness, rather than getting aggressive over it, is like a psychological hug. Kyle Mooney’s portrayal of James in those moments of acceptance is very true to life.
It’s refreshing to have the tension of a comedy film built around a feeling that misunderstandings might make everything fall to pieces. And then the tension releases because everyone is trying so hard to be their best self and things get sorted. I’m used to this dynamic in quite a few old romantic comedy films, but it’s a strategy not employed all that often today. If this is where millennial art is headed I’m ready to take out the trash marketed to us in the last decade.
At first I was worried that this was going to be another early 1980s throwback nostalgia piece without the spirit of media it was referencing (yes, I’m already fatigued by this). That thought was dispelled quickly.
The casting is great. The use of Mark Hamill is particularly ingenious.
Where to watch: it’s currently on demand through Starz.
Perfect Blue (1997)
28 February 1998 | 81min. | Color
Perfect Blue is a must-see for giallo fans, I think. It was very cool to see a Japanese filmmaker create a giallo-inspired psycho-detective thriller and specifically to see Satoshi Kon’s take given his skill in weaving tales about identity.
Perfect Blue is a harsh criticism of Idol culture (and, more broadly, fan culture).
This film requires a huge content warning for sexual violence and assault. If I hadn’t been watching Perfect Blue in a theater, I absolutely would have had to pause the film and take breaks a few times. Which is why, if you haven’t seen any other Kon films, it might be best to start elsewhere–even though Perfect Blue was his first feature. My first exposure to Kon was a few years back with Millennium Actress (2001) and then Paprika (2006). Both are great for newcomers to Kon. Paprika is usually the easy to find. Tokyo Godfathers (2003) is also worth watching, but pretty far afield from Perfect Blue.
Now I’m not suggesting that Perfect Blue isn’t good. It’s great. It’s simply that it’s such an intense and potentially triggering film that it might put some people off Kon’s other work. That may well have happened to me if this had been the first Kon film I saw rather than my last of his filmography.
As with Kon’s other films, the animation is fantastic and imaginative. I don’t want to give too much away about the story, so feel free to ask if you need more specific content warnings.
Where to watch: This one’s not so easy to get your hands on. Your local library or video store might be the best place to look. But, GKids does have some theatrical screenings upcoming.
New Orleans (1947)
18 April 1947 | 90min. | B&W
I watched this film on TCM as part of the aforementioned Black Experience on Film series with AAFCA.
As it was a month-long series in September, I probably should have mentioned it sooner, but the whole series was fantastic. The critics offered useful context for all of the films. Given that the films elicit mixed responses and have complicated roles in cultural and social history, it was very cool to see people debate and disagree on the films. It was valuable to witness even the disagreements that weren’t all that complicated and more about personal taste than politics. With New Orleans for example, one of the hosts liked the film and the other disliked it, though both held an appreciation for it. More civil disagreement about films, please and thanks.
I liked New Orleans and am disappointed that I hadn’t even heard about it before. Although, I do agree with critic/host Jamaal Finkley that it’s a disappointment that New Orleans doesn’t provide any insight into the personal trials of the Black characters.
It’s always a treat to see Arturo de Cordova, but that goes double when it’s an American film where his role isn’t informed by Latin/Mexican stereotypes. This is actually one the more refreshing aspects of the film. The Black characters lack interiority and their struggles are left out of the film, but Louis Armstrong’s and Billie Holiday’s characters are average people and don’t hew to stereotypes. It’s not exactly a victory for representation, but it’s still an improvement.
That said, the music is great and I wish there were more of it. It’s well established in the film that New Orleans’ problems largely come from badly-behaved white people, which I appreciate. (Is that too real?) Arturo de Cordova is great as the romantic lead of the film. I only wish Dorothy Patrick had the charisma to seem like a better match for him.
New Orleans is definitely worth checking out if the progress of Black representation in film is of interest to you or if you have a special interest in jazz or New Orleans.
Where to watch: It looks like Kino’s DVD release might be out of print, so libraries & video stores might be your best bet. OR, you can wait until TCM plays it again.
The Boy (2016)
22 January 2016 | 97min. | Color
Sooooo depending on how long you’ve been following the blog, you may or may not know that I love horror movies and ghost stories and whenever those things meet. When I first saw the trailers for The Boy ahead of its theatrical release, it did pique my interest. However, that’s mostly because they made me laugh. I am not someone who’s creeped out by dolls though. If you are, I suspect this film actually might be scary to you.
The Boy has a solid premise. At first it reminded me of the story “Baby Doll” by Larry LeClair from the radio show Nightfall. (”Baby Doll” is a better story, FYI, and creepier.) Unfortunately, the execution of The Boy’s story was disappointing. The film drags when it shouldn’t and the flow of the lead character warming to the doll felt stilted. The Boy’s big reveal ended up feeling a bit cheap as a consequence.
That said, I had fun watching it. I got some good laughs from Brahms’ ghostly antics and the middle part of the film is chock full of them.
The house from the film is so beautiful. I can’t believe it’s in Vancouver. Or that it’s a location for Little Women (1994)? I somehow didn’t recognize it.
Whether The Boy is worth a watch is debatable. If you like Haunted Doll stories, the execution and ending might be unsatisfying for you. Maybe if you like the odd modern horror film that can’t embrace its own camp, The Boy would be perfect for you?
Where to watch: It’s currently streaming on Netflix.
Street Scene (1931)
5 September 1931 | 80min. | B&W
This movie was a good old kick in the pants.
Street Scene an adaptation of a Pulitzer-Prize-winning stage play by Elmer Rice. It depicts the problems of New York City tenement residents and their relationships with one another. Though this is a pre-code film, I still imagine there would have been notable changes for censors. That said, the film is still very… mature. Additionally, I’ve seen suggestions that the film we know today is a re-edit of the film for post-code re-release. Hoo boy, what that source material must have been then.
One challenge a lot of filmmakers have when adapting stage plays to film is avoiding static staging–as if someone simply recorded the play. Street Scene doesn’t fear this and I think it works out. Almost all of the film takes place on the stoop of the tenement. The building facade is a truly impressive setup for filming. The camera work livens up the visuals with tracking shots and unexpected angles not commonly seen in early-sound films. (Unsurprisingly, Gregg Toland worked on the film!)
The acting is fantastic and, as someone who has spent the lion’s share of her life in cultural melting pots, the atmosphere the actors create is very authentic. Frankly, after living in Brooklyn for five years (four years ago), some neighborhoods still feel like this–only the voices are Puerto Rican and West Indian instead of European. It’s fascinating to see those veins of permanence in a city that’s changed as much as New York has.
The story primarily focuses on one family. The matriarch (Estelle Taylor) is bored with her unhappy marriage and takes up with the man who collects payment for milk delivery. The eldest child, Rose (Silvia Sydney), is pursued by seemingly every young, eligible man on the block and her not-so-young and not-so-eligible boss. The only one Rose shares feelings for is her downstairs neighbor, an unemployed student, Sam (William Collier, Jr.), who also happens to be Jewish. There is plenty of external resistance to their relationship for anti-semitic and/or financial reasons. Rose’s misgivings are a little more complicated. She feels trapped by the neighborhood and is wary to tie herself down to her current status at so young an age, regardless of how she feels about Sam. In the end, Rose’s mother’s fate cements her own. You can’t help but feel for both of them.
In case you haven’t already gathered this, the film calls for a content warning for anti-semitism and the use of anti-semitic slurs. [Note for clarification: the film is not anti-semitic, a few of the characters are.]
Street Scene takes social issues head on and is a pre-code through and through. It’s absolutely a top recommendation if you like pre-codes. It’s also worth watching if you’re into New York City history or have an interest in film adaptations of stage plays.
Where to watch: This one is pretty easy to see, but I haven’t sussed out the distribution rights or home video releases.
I also watched the film Sanatorium pod Klepsydrą / The Hourglass Sanatorium (1973). That left me with too many feelings to put in an amalgam post. Once I sort through how personal I want to get in discussing the film publicly, you can be sure it’ll get its own post up here.

we have a lot of love to give
i was tagged by @bts-feat-nct to do a top 10 bias tag... and my brain is already short circuiting trying to pick 10 so lets go. (ps im putting comments under them because i wanna scream... a lot)
1. lee taeyong - nct
my favorite flower. the one that has the other end of my red string. the most special boy. he has my whole heart. i love him probably as much as i could ever love someone i’ve never met. he is the one that owns the sole title of ultimate bias. we could easily be here all day just on him (if u wanna hear me scream more just go to my nct blog. i do it all the time)
2. park chaewon - loona
my precious angel baby girl that i would protect with all that i have. shes my ult girl group bias in my ult girl group. she is a ray of sunshine and a soft caring soul. i have the biggest friend crush on her (and a tinsy tiny regular crush on her). she deserves the world. i will always love her and her crunchy vocals.
3. lee jeno - nct dream
i know i did nct but this is nct dream. jeno stole my heart and he stole it fast. sweet, funny, patient, beautiful, wonderful, incredible. i love him. he smile melts my heart and his laugh is magic.
4. chae hyungwon - monsta x
an icon. a legend. everything he does is an instant meme. i swear this boy never fails to crack me up. if im having a bad day, i can watch monsta x videos and know that hyungwon is gonna put a smile on my face. never forget when i was watching the most famous wonho fancam and fell in love with hyungwon instead because i was so endeared he forgot his part. boy i love you!
5. kim yugyeom - got7
bring back his yellow hair. also a man. just a man. idk when and how my crush on him got so big but here we are!!!!! in love with yugyeom!!! another funny boy. hes so captivating when he does literally anything? or maybe im just smitten.
6. kim taehyung - bts
my first ever kpop bias... the biggest bundle of joy. the boy is pure and kind and all things wonderful bottled into one. there is no one like kim taehyung and there never will be. will always hold a very special piece of my heart and its what he deserves. hes stuck it out with me through a lot of groups. and i still love him.
7. xu minghao - seventeen
easily my most unexpected bias. i started with cheol, then mingyu, then seokmin, then jeonghan all within the first two weeks. and now here we sit, months later, a confident minghao stan. this boy is talented and amazing and wise beyond his years. he knows what he wants and he gets it. he also has a kindness that is so unique to him. i wanna just sit and drink wine with him and have a good time. never cut the mullet ever
8. kim yerim - red velvet
miss yeri... i love her so much and she deserves the whole world. underrated, under appreciated, queen of the world. i hope she knows she is loved and special. she is an absolute angel and i would fight for her honor. my very first girl group bias. started a wave and began the kelsie girl group frontier
9. kang hyunggu
boy snatched my heart. i was like yes mr goggle boy. i love you. then i watched pentagon maker and it stuck. a good boy. a complete and total good boy. like just a textbook good boy. hes a softie that makes my chest hurt. *heavy sigh* i love kino
10. kim jonghyun - shinee
the king. this man will always have a part of my heart. a light to everyone he met. an undeniable presence of grace surrounded him. one of the best vocalists this world has ever seen. one of my all time favorite artists. this bias tag would never be complete without him. i miss him but every day i am so proud of him. i was blessed enough to get to see just a glimpse of the incredible person he was. he made a very large impact on me in the short amount of time i came to know him.
wow i love love love all these people. i did this tag a while ago but i feel as if a lot has changed. maybe some new biases are here but really my love just grew stronger for everyone. there are so many good souls in kpop and im glad i get to watch them do what they love
this got really soft really fast and im only lowkey tearing up from the overflow of love. im gonna go ahead and tag anyone that wants to do it. it was a good chance for me to really appreciate the groups i love so if you wanna pick a top ten, do it and tag me in it bc i wanna see!!!!!!!!!!!!
#about me#bias tag#i got really emo so everything is under the read more#didnt wanna fill the feed with sappy comments over my biases

hello, ur uni anon here 💕 thankfully things have calmed down for me so ill be able to message u more from now on :)
im currently listening to you are by got7 thanks to ur recommendation and i really like youngjae's vocal color!! im going to listen to all the other songs u recced even though its not really my style just bc i love his and jinyoungs voices :D ill keep u updated after i listen to all of them 😅
its very surprising to me that ur a baby uni, idk why i assumed you've been a fan for much longer ahshssj but yes i agree with ur picks so much!!! lost paradise is one of my favorite ptg songs it makes me so happy to see u appreciating it :') i also love asteroid and die for you and ur so right we:th has absolutely no skips... i genuinely thinks its one of their best albums
since i missed week 4 i thought i combine the week 4 and week 5 prompts, i hope that's okay and u dont mind the questions ☺️
- an unpopular opinion u have about one of ur ults?
- favorite era of ur ptg bias?
- top 5 funniest ptg moments? :D
- jinho or hui?
- would u rather attend a magazineho concert or a kino dance showcase?
- if you were an idol, what positions would u want in the group? (lead singer, main dancer, oldest etc)
- when u watch music video for the first time, what do u tend to notice most on the first watch: the video, the song, the lyrics, the choreo?
hello! i am so happy you're back, aaaah!! so, let's get into it!
if you love jinyoung's voice (which, everyone should, he's also an incredible dancer), you should definitely check out his first solo release dive! one of my favorite got7 solo releases, and it's a little more pop rock. he's also an actor, and most recently starred in the crime drama devil judge (which i definitely recommend) and in the drama he is psychometric!
really?? huh, i wonder why i'd give off that energy .... i feel like i know nothing yet, and am just trying to catch up with all the content. i love them so much ... like, having pentagon's discography?? HOW crazy is that?? how the fuck are you not the most successful act in the industry?
okay!! here we go!
hmmm, i feel like hoseok is too nice to hybe and constantly undervalues himself and his skills in order for the group to thrive, and i wish he wouldn't be so goddamn nice, because he is the most talented dancer in the group, a talented rapper AND vocalist, and it should be SHOWN.
favorite eras: kino - naughty boy, jinho - sha la la / dr. bebe, hui - shine!
top 5 funniest moments (in no particular order):
1. talking shit about mnet during road to kingdom 😭 2. the infamous gashina cover 3. when they had to choose ingredients for a barbecue, and hui talked shit about shinwon choosing a potato, only to reveal he also chose a potato 4. jinho spelling out i'm bored at ISAC 5. hui's initial pitch for do or not ("a spring song") being DEAD OR BAD (whatever hui ........) 6. every time hui wants to hold hands with his members, especially kino
while i love hyunggu to death, I AM a singer ... so magazineho concert!!
i would be the main vocal! resident translator, and i would be one of the youngest members, but everyone thinks i am the oldest.
i NEED to see the lyrics while watching, so it's always vocals / lyrics / outfits first, then dance, concept etc. comes second.

STREAMING MEDIA ❏ Streaming media is multimedia that is constantly received by and presented to an end-user while being delivered by a provider.
❏ COPYRIGHT CONTENT ❏ Copyright is a type of intellectual property that gives its owner the exclusive right to make copies of a creative work, usually for a limited time.[1][2][3][4][5] The creative work may be in a literary, artistic, educational, or musical form. It is often shared among multiple authors, each of whom holds a set of rights to use or license the work, and who are commonly referred to as rights holders.[citation needed][9][10][11][12] These rights frequently include reproduction, control over derivative works, distribution, public performance, and moral rights such as attribution.[13] Copyrights can be granted by public law and are in that case considered “territorial rights”. This means that copyrights granted by the law of a certain state, do not extend beyond the territory of that specific jurisdiction. Copyrights of this type vary by country; many countries, and sometimes a large group of countries, have made agreements with other countries on procedures applicable when works “cross” national borders or national rights are inconsistent.[14] Typically, the public law duration of a copyright expires 50 to 100 years after the creator dies, depending on the jurisdiction.
❍❍❍ Formats Genres ❍❍❍
See also: List of genres § Streaming television formats genres
Television shows are more varied than most other forms of media due to wide variety of formats genres that can be presented. A show may be fictional (as in comedies dramas), or non-fictional (as in documentary, news, reality television). It may be topical (as in case of a local newscast some made-for-television Streamings), or historical (as in case of many documentaries fictional Streaming). They could be primarily instructional or educational, or entertaining as is case in situation comedy game shows.[citation needed]
A drama program usually features a set of actors playing characters in a historical or contemporary setting. program follows their lives adventures. Before 1980s, shows (except for soap opera-type serials) typically remained static without story arcs, main characters premise changed little.[citation needed] If some change happened to characters’ lives during episode, it was usually undone by end. Because of this, episodes could be broadcast in any order.[citation needed] Since 1980s, many Streaming feature progressive change in plot, characters, or both. For instance, Hill Street Blues St. Elsewhere were two of first American prime time drama television Streaming to have this kind of dramatic structure,[4][better source needed] while later Streaming Babylon 5 further exemplifies such structure in that it had a predetermined story running over its intended five-season run.[citation needed]
In 2012, it was reported that television was growing into a larger component of major media companies’ revenues than Streaming.[5] Some also noted increase in quality of some television programs. In 2012, Academy-Award-winning Streaming director Steven Soderbergh, commenting on ambiguity complexity of character narrative, stated: “I think those qualities are now being seen on television that people who want to see stories that have those kinds of qualities are watching television.

The Weekend Warrior’s January 2021 Preview
Happy New Year!
So we’re gonna do things a little different this month. If it works out, I might do this as a regular thing until I feel comfortable writing about box office on a weekly basis again. It may be a long while. As you’ll see, this is a fairly comprehensive preview of the month ahead, as it stands on the first day of posting this, which hopefully is Wednesday, January 6.
I will be updating this post regularly with reviews and any date changes, etc. If you want to keep track of which movies I’ve reviewed, your best option is to bookmark my Rotten Tomatoes page, since more than likely, any new reviews will be added there at the same time they’re posted here.
Why do I have this bad feeling that doing the column this way is just gonna give me more work? (I was correct. Instead of writing about 6 movies every single week, I ended up writing about nearly 30 movies in one week.)
What’s surprising is that there are far fewer wide releases in January than any previous year, as I only count two or three in total. That’s not good.

FEATURED FLICK!
THE REASON I JUMP (Kino Lorber) Naoki Higashida’s best-selling book that was translated into English by David Mitchell (Cloud Atlas) is turned into an arty doc directed by Jerry Rothwell. It’s based on Higashida’s revelations as a 13-year-old boy suffering dealing with autism blended with portraits of five other young people with autism.
Quick Thoughts: I haven’t read Higashida’s book or its English translation, but it makes a beautiful and lyrical accompaniment, as narrated by Jordan O’Donegan, for this look inside the life of a number of young autistic people, as their parents talk about trying to help their children without fully understanding what they’re going through. In many ways, this doc may offer some of the best insights into what it’s like to be autistic or dealing with an autistic family member in order to create some much-needed empathy for a condition so many face. The film is haunting and even horrifying at times, but it’s beautifully filmed to create a fully immersive experience.
REDEMPTION DAY (Saban Films) Hicham Hajji’s action thriller stars Gary Dourdan (CSI) as U.S. Marine Captain Brad Paxton whose wife Kate (Serinda Swan) is kidnapped by a terrorist group while working in Morocco, which forces him back into action to save the woman he loves. It also stars Andy Garcia, Ernie Hudson and Martin Donovan, and it will get a limited theatrical release and be available on Tuesday, Jan. 12, On Demand and Digital.
Quick Thoughts: While Hajji seems to bring some authenticity to this Mideast revenge thriller, the film starts out as a tribute to our fighting troops but then soon turns ridiculous, first with the kidnapping of his wife less than 24 hours after going to Morocco, and then some of the politics involved with helping her. Eventually, Dourdan goes in guns a-blazin’ in a way more apt for a movie from the ‘90s, and Hajji undoes a lot of the good will the film would have received if things were handled even somewhat tastefully. Appearances by better-known actors like Garcia, Hudson and Donovan tends to distract from the story more than adding or enhancing what was already a problematic premise.
IF NOT NOW, WHEN? (Vertical) Actors Meagan Good and Tamara Bass make their directorial debuts with this movie about four high school friends (Good and Bass are two of them, presumably) who are brought back together to help one of them during a crisis. From the official summary: “It’s a story of love, forgiveness and the incredible bond between women.)
Digital/On Demand:
STARS FELL ON ALABAMA (Samuel Goldwyn Films) V.W. PRETEND IT’S A CITY (Netflix) No less than Martin Scorsese directs this 7-part limited series about his long-time friend, critic and essayist Fran Lebowitz, as they explore New York City, presumably pre-pandemic. As someone who is celebrating my 34th year in New York City this week, I absolutely loved the series. Lebowitz is absolutely hilarious and Scorsese really pulls some amazing stories from out of her in this series that’s like a “how-to” for anyone who might ever want to live here. A truly joyful albeit crotchety take on New York living, which is the perfect combination to keep this series entertaining.

Digital/VOD: SKYFIRE (ScreenMedia) The Simon-West directed thriller is set on the Tianhuo Island in a Pacific Rim volcanic belt where a young scientist (Hannah Quinlivan), who has invented a volcanic warning system, returns to prevent more death only to find that it’s been turned into a volcano theme park by Jason Isaacs. Okay, then. This will available On Demand.
THE BID (GVN Releasing) Marquis Boone’s directorial debut has him and co-writer Richard Harris (not that one) playing Philadelphia rappers who get framed by a police officer who sends them to prison to fight the prison system from the inside. As I started that last sentence, I presumed it was a comedy until I got to the last half of it.
CURSE OF AURORE (Freestyle Digital Releasing) Mehran C. Torgoley’s horror film is about a “Dark Web” thumb drive found by a YouTuber that involves a trio of American filmmakers including Liana Barron’s Lena, who are in Quebec researching the true crime case of a young girl named Aurore Gagnon, murdered in 1920 by her parents in a case of child abuse. As the filmmakers investigate the place where she was killed, they experience paranormal occurrences… and yes, it’s 2021 an we’re still getting Blair Witch Project “homages.”
GO/DON’T GO (Gravitas Ventures) Alex Knapp writes/directs and stars in this “psychosexual thriller” in which he plays the sole survivor after an unknown cataclysm with visons of his best friend Kyle (Nore Davis) introducing him to Olivia Luccardi’s Kay, the love of his life. It will be out via digital and cable VOD platforms.

It stars Lucie Debay as Eve, who becomes the target of a misogynistic plot against two men who pursue her through the forest where she’s forced to survive. From the synopsis: “But survival isn’t enough for Eve. She will have revenge!” (Okay, that exclamation point is my own. Definitely sounds like something that would require one.)
FRIDAY, JANUARY 15
Note: This is Martin Luther King Jr.’s birthday weekend, so many government agencies and schools are off on Monday. Not sure that will really have an effect on anything.
Theatrical:
THE MARKSMAN (Briarcliff/Open Road) (NEW REVIEW!) Liam Neeson stars in his second theatrical release in the past six months, Robert (Trouble with the Curve) Lorenz’s action-thriller in which Neeson plays a rancher on the Arizona border who ends up defending a young Mexican boy who is trying to escape from cartel assassins that followed him into the States. I haven’t seen this yet, nor do I know if I’ll have a chance. I’m guessing this is being released as a typical January release and not as an awards contender with the Oscar deadline pushed back to February 28.
Mini-Review: Here we’re into a brand new year, and yet, we’re getting the third movie about an old man watching over a young child. This time it’s Liam Neeson as Vietnam sniper Jim Henson, who is living on his ranch in an Arizona border town with his dog Jackson with financial problems that might take his home away from him. A chance encounter on the border when Jim witnesses a single mother with her son being chased by the cartel, leaves the mother dead and the young, Miguel (Jacob Perez), in danger of being next. Jim decides to take the boy across the country to his family in Chicago, chased the entire way by the cartel.
While The Marksman attempts to create a topical action-thriller, it isn’t one that necessarily feels very timely, only because we’ve seen so many border-set movies over the past few years, maybe for obvious reasons. Director Robert Lorenz is a long-time Clint Eastwood collaborator, both as producer and assistant-director, and you probably will notice a number of similar stylistic flares in common – you also can totally see Eastwood playing the Neeson role if he was twenty years younger.
The movie comes across more like last year’s Let Him Go rather than Neeson’s own 2020 movie, Honest Thief, and maybe that’s for the better since this seems to be better suited for his specialized skills, both in terms of action and drama. Not that there is a ton of action in the movie, but the few shootouts and chases are decent enough, but nothing too insane. I’m sure ultra-liberals might have issues with certain scenes like how easy it is for Jim to buy a gun or teaching the young Miguel to use one, but that just seems creating an unnecessary political overlay.
While the majority of the film is Jim and Miguel on this road trip, there’s a nice role for Katheryn Winnick as Jim’s border police—well, it’s never really clear if she’s his daughter or not--but otherwise, the Mexican actors are not particularly good compared to Neeson – sadly, very stereotypical – and the writing is probably on the weaker side compared to the score by Sean Callery that goes a long way towards enhancing the emotions and tension when needed.
The Marksman is a decent enough dramatic thriller that feels a little by-the-books but gains enough humanity from Neeson’s performance to make it a worthwhile watch.
Rating: 7/10
THE DIG (Netflix) Carey Mulligan and Ralph Fiennes star in this drama that takes place just before WWII with Mulligan playing a wealthy widow wo hires Fiennes’ archeologist to excavate the burial mounds on her estate in which they make a historic discovery. I like when movie titles are very literal like this one. Will be released to select cinemas before its Netflix debut on January 29.
MLK/FBI (IFC Films) Sam Pollack’s doc that’s had a successful festival run will get a small limited run as well as be available On Demand today. As the title implies, it studies the FBI’s attempts to discredit Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. as his movement towards the Civil Rights Act continues to gain momentum. I didn’t like this as much as a few of Pollack’s other docs, including the recent Two Train Runnin’ and his co-directed doc, Mr Soul!
SOME KIND OF HEAVEN (Magnolia Pictures)
Lance Oppenheim’s first feature doc, co-produced by Darren Aronofsky, looks at the largest retirement community in America, the Villages in Central Florida, where a few residents are unable to find happiness despite the community’s pre-packaged paradise.
Quick Thoughts: This was a very different movie than I was expecting, since at first it seemed to thrive on the quirky personalities of the resident and their party-centric activities, but it then quickly focuses on three very particular cases, an elderly man named Dennis who is living in his van on the site of the Villages, trying to find himself a relationship (hopefully one with money). There’s also a couple who has been married for 47 years with a woman who has to deal with her husband’s ever-increasing eccentric behavior that involves drugs and troubles with the law. Lastly, there’s a widow who is trying to find happiness and companionship in the Villages, which is a particularly lonely experience as she goes from one group or club to another. All three of these stories keep the viewer invested but especially Oppenheim’s look at loneliness of people in that age group, which made it impossible for me not to think of my mother who has been suffering through the loneliness of the pandemic and not being able to be around other people her own age because of it. A terrifically insightful film that makes you think and hard about your own aging and mortality.
FLINCH (Ardor Pictures) Camron Van Hoy’s crime-thriller stars Daniel Zovatto as a young hitman who lives with his mother (Cathy Moriarty) who falls in love with a girl (Tilda Cobham-Hervey) who sees him kill someone. Since he can’t kill her, he instead brings her home and learns there’s more to her than he thought. This will ALSO be on TVOD starting on Tuesday, Jan. 21.
ACASA MY HOME (Zeitgeist, Kino Lorber) Romanian filmmaker Radu Ciorniciuc’s directorial debut doc, which premiered at Sundance last year (receiving an award for its cinematography), about the Enache family who lives in harmony with nature in the wilderness of the Bucharest Delta. When the area is turned into a public national park, they’re forced to move to the city where things are very different. It will open in select cities and via virtual cinema.
GOODBYE, BUTTERFLY (Gravitas Ventures) Tyler Wayne’s directorial debut is this crime thriller starring Adam Donshik (House of Cards) as Ryan Olsen, a family man whose five-year-old daughter is murdered, but with no leads, Ryan starts suspecting his oddball neighbor Stan (Andy Lauer), so Ryan takes the law into his own hands. This is getting day and date theatrical with TVOD (no idea what that is) and digital.
VOD:
AMERICAN SKIN Nate Parker’s second film as a director following the Sundance Prize-winning Birth of a Nation has him starring as a Marine veteran working as a school janitor who tries to fix things with his son, who is killed by a police officer who isn’t even put to trial for the death so he takes matters in his own hand. The drama also stars Omari Hardwick and will be available on iTunes and other VOD platforms.
Two of my favorite movies of 2020, Emmerald Fennell’s Promising Young Woman (Focus Features), starring Carey Mulligan, and Paul Greengrass’ News of the World (Universal), starring Tom Hanks, will be available starting today via PVOD, rentable for 48-Hour rental. These both should be in the Oscar race, so don’t miss them!
Virtual Cinema:
TRIBUTE TO SAM POLLARD Film at Lincoln Center is running a one-week retrospective to editor, producer and director Sam Pollard to tie in with the release by IFC Films of MLK/FBI, which played at the New York Film Festival last year. It will include some of his own docs (including, hopefully, the excellent Mr. Soul!), as well as his collaborations with Spike Lee, St. Clair Bourne and Henry Hampton. Hopefully, there will be a line-up as it gets closer to the series start, and I’ll add that when it becomes available.
FILM ABOUT A FATHER WHO (Cinema Guild) Over a period of 35 years between 1984 and 2019, Lynne Sachs used various media, including 8 and 16mm film, videotape and digital images to capture a portrait of her father, Ira Sachs Sr, a Park Cit, Utah businessman, in order to understand the web that connects a child to her parents and a sister to her siblings. STALLONE... FRANK, THAT IS (Branded Studio) Derek Wayne Johnson’s documentary takes an in-depth look into the life and career of Frank Stallone, the younger brother of the far-more-famous Sylvester Stallone, whose own four decade career has earned him three Platinum Albums, ten Gold Albums and five Gold Singles… which is odd, since I don’t think I could name a single one of his songs. He’s also done soundtracks for many of his brother’s films including The Expendables 2, the first three Rocky movies, Rambo II and more and appeared in 75 films and TV shows. Obviously, I’ll need to watch this doc to learn more about him.

K-Con Australia, 20170922-23
The first Australian K-Con was held over the last two nights in Sydney, and @proteinscollide and I were there. I'm very behind on everything else as a result! I need to watch Knowing Bros! ANYWAY, short version: IT WAS SUPER FUN. Lots of rambling under the cut as usual.
22 September: SF9, Pentagon, Victon, Girl's Day, Exo
23 September: SF9 (again!), Up10tion, Cosmic Girls/WJSN, Wanna One, Monsta X
Overall this was an extremely well produced show and a really fun show - I had such a good time! Okay, the "convention" part not so much (I'll talk about this a bit at the end of the post) but at both evening shows, the concert ran like a slick machine, stage following stage with no pause, good sound and no technical hitches. Visually the show looked great, with massive screens giving good views of every performer as well as fantastically atmospheric backdrops.
It didn't sell out on either night, and again I'll talk about possible reasons for that more later, but as a vehicle for hallyu and for promoting Korean culture this is potentially such a powerful instrument. One of the most striking K-Con images for me is the footage of K-Con Paris from 2016 - the pan from the section of the crowd for the French dignitaries and delegates, all politely seated and clapping, to the massive auditorium of French youth going absolutely wild for these pop groups from the other side of the world. This show didn't have that element of official endorsement, it was much more a straight-up pop show, but hey you never know, that might come…
Soft power has its limits, for sure, but within those boundaries Korea is working so very hard at being the very best it can be. I admire the gumption, and more importantly to Korea I am happily consuming the product! Give me more product! I'm here for this!
As far as line-up goes, this K-Con wasn't the best. Exo are absolute stars of course and there were other notable groups like Monsta X and Girl's Day; on balance however this was a really rookie-heavy sausage-fest. The prevalence of rookies is probably partly bad timing - the show coincided with the DMC Music Festival (which was eventually cancelled anyway due to labour disputes, argh, we could've had it all!).
But the boy-heavy line-up? Frustrating. Apparently WJSN and Girl's Day are the first girl groups to perform here since 4 Minute some three-four years ago. WHY? Perhaps there's a perception that since Western fans are mostly girls then they'll only turn out for boybands - I know in Korea the audience for girlgroups is skewed towards boys. However, here in the West, pop as a whole is coded so heavily female that I'm sure wouldn't be a problem. I've been to many Western female pop star concerts and trust me, the girls SHOWED UP. Hell, at this very same arena, Little Mix are performing later this year. Besides, this argument falls flat if you look at other K-Con line-ups which, although boy-heavy, still manage more than a measly 2 girl groups. Gosh I'd have been so happy with the addition of any ONE of Red Velvet, Mamamoo, Blackpink, Pristin, Gfriend, Twice, etc…
...that was a long intro. Let's talk the show.
Chanyeol (EXO)
Night 1
The first night of K-Con began with a pre-show of kpop dance cover groups (they were all good but some were REALLY GOOD) and Kevin from U-KISS as MC (did u know he looks like Lee Pace around the eyes?), doing his cheesy best to hype up the crowd and also promote the con's primary sponsor.
Then the show got started with a VCR, featuring Monsta X's Minhyuk in a sort of spaceship-themed narrative? I don't know what I saw but apparently K-Con's first Oceanic showing needed heroes or defenders or something, i.e. kpop groups? Whatever cool. I do know it involved Minhyuk looking at a picture of a kangaroo so we're all good.
Also apparently Sydney is the city of "arts and culture" and also "romance"? I'm flattered on behalf of my home, and I can assure you we have plenty of all three, but really?? Those are not, like, the first words I associate with Sydney. But ok, you do you K-Con!
Exo's Suho and Sehun then came on as the night's special MCs to deliver a brief introduction and be cute together and make the crowd scream. Naturally, there were Exo jerseys and banners and lightsticks all over the place; earlier in the day I got handed a cute banner to celebrate Chen's birthday, which I then promptly used to test proteinscollide's knowledge of Exo band names. (She improved greatly through the evening!)
First group up were rookie boyband SF9 - I've enjoyed their songs and MVs without knowing much about them. This rapidfire 3 song performance made me more of a fan! They just hit all their beats really well, both in terms of performance and in their brief introduction ment, advantaged by one member who was a fluent English speaker. Their line distribution is kind of weird - there's maybe three members who dominate the vocals and the dancing, especially Taeyang who I kept thinking of as "that one guy who looks like Shinee's Jonghyun" - but not enough to detract overall. I have no favourite but maybe my favourite is the rapper with currently red hair who reminds me of SVT Jeonghan and Pentagon's E'Dawn.
Something like K-Con is the perfect platform for a rookie group to get this kind of exposure. My own first exposure to kpop (aka the reason for my eternal downfall) was winning free tickets to a Boyfriend & JJCC show - I knew nothing about them, knew next to nothing about kpop, and JJCC were a hot mess sorry - but seeing the groups in person and live was enough to make me want to know so much more. I feel like this SF9 set functioned in much the same way. It was SO much more impactful than just an MV or a youtube clip or a gifset. This is how fans are made! (That said… I'll get to it, but SF9 got two bites at the cherry. Why?)
Next up were Pentagon and their brief set was great. Their songs are such bangers - I SAID BANGERS, DON'T AT ME - and they were really polished and powerful. Kino's opening dance solo was super charismatic, and E'Dawn (aka the only one I can consistently recognise) was working that jawline of his so well, lol. He does the bad boy thing very well! I admire it! For their ment, they played the "Pinata" game as seen at other K-Cons this year, i.e. a random game was selected. (Would the game be 'Propose'? It was not propose, but one member did get down on one knee to E'Dawn anyway, good job good fanservice.) In this case it was a random dance play, and it was very amusing and silly.
Probably my favourite thing about Pengaton is how far and fast proteinscollide has fallen for them. Can you believe at this time last year she didn't even know all the MX member names? Now the student has exceeded the master! Post your Pentagon post bro!
Sehun and Suho came back to introduce a special stage: Exo's Chanyeol in duet with WJSN's Seola, for his OST track Stay with Me. This was a nice, pretty interlude and a bit of a breather after the fast pacing of the first two sets.
Seola (WJSN)
Third rookie group Victon bopped cutely to a very Australian-themed video backdrop and they were very entertaining, without necessarily making me want to seek them out further. I think that's more to do with their concept being more cute than Pentagon and SF9's, so less appealing to me on those grounds. But they have their charms and most importantly one had a mullet! I'm HERE for the mullets, don't even think I'm joking.
Next up were Girl's Day. They're down to 4 members now but their experience and their casual confidence made them so enjoyable to watch. They played their hits including Something, Expectation and Ring My Bell with such a sense of fun and sexiness, dominating the stage and playing to the crowd with the relaxed ease of vets who have nothing to prove. There was a hunger to the rookies that gave them more edge but sometimes you just wanna watch really talented ppl relaxedly doing their very talented thing.
With everyone acutely aware there was only one act left to take the stage, a couple of SF9s came out to MC a special stage. They did the usual "how are you guys enjoying the show" and "we love Australia" and all that jazz, and then made the fatal mistake of asking an open-ended question:
SF9 MCs: so who is Australia's favourite boy group? Crowd: BTS!!! MCs: Yes, Exo!!! #awkward
I lol'd! I am sorry! Bless you Exo but c'mon!
This was followed by a brief VCR of Australian fans naming their favourite boybands, and then a really fun special stage of boyband covers: Pentagon covered GOT7's Hard Carry; SF9 covered Exo's Monster; and Victon did BTS's Fire.
At last it was time for EXO - MUCH CHEERING FROM CROWD! Exo-Ls were out in force. There were also tons of lightsticks in the crowd and everyone was hyyyyped.
Now some context for my reaction: I can name all the Exo's and I like some of their songs, but I don't quite click with their aesthetic/dynamic in the way that I do with BTS, etc. They were also at something of a disadvantage, with D.O absent from the line-up (I had to count them twice to make sure sob) and Lay MIA from this entire comeback (though I guess that's no longer surprising).
So let that be the background for me saying that I was totally entertained and impressed by their set. Starting with Power and ending with Ko Ko Bop, they came out and gave a great show. They are after all professionally charming and who was I to resist?
For me again it's that idea of a live show being so much more powerful than a video, even for something as preplanned and artificially constructed as pop. A concert is such a powerful reminder that it's more than the performer, and it's more than the audience too - it's about the relationship between the two, that alchemy of atmosphere and act that you only get in that specific environment.
Yes, Kai was deadly with his fucking winks and seductive looks (how dare you sir), but the way the audience reacted to his performance is what made the show go off. Xiumin aka Cat Pirate was also a scene stealer for me, and it was very darling when Chanyeol threw confetti at his head at the end awwww.
(I just wish, like, SM were less SM-y. I got a message from proteinscollide after the show - "Girl walking thru car park: shout out to SM who never give reasons for why members aren't there and if they're ok". Um, yep. I had to check on twitter to find out that D.O was off filming a movie.)
Ending stage was as usual with everyone coming out as tons of confetti rained down. I think a SF9 hugged a Victon? AWWW FRIENDS. A good night.
Night 2
We started again with dance cover groups - colour me EXTREMELY impressed by IME Dance Studio - and Kevin from U-KISS giving away a prize to whoever in the crowd did their best impression of their favourite thing to do in a hotel room. This led to a really hilarious scenario as the cameras zoomed in on 2 girls "dancing" together. "Yes, they're dancing!" Kevin said, "of course they're dancing!" Everyone just cracked the fuck up, Kevin included. They got the prize, bless them, which was - ofc - a free hotel stay!
The show started with the same VCR as the day before and then I was EMOTIONALLY DESTROYED by Monsta X's Jooheon and Shownu taking the stage together to drop an absolutely fire performance. Jooheon's duality is amazing - cuddly scaredy-cat off stage, fucking monster on stage - he was SO GOOD. Shownu's dance break was great as expected and I cried tears in my heart bc I love them.
SF9 returned for the second evening - again, they were slick and impressive, and they namedropped kangaroos and meat pies in their intro ment, good work on ticking off those keywords lol. But I really don't know why they got sets on both days? Did FNC decide they really wanted to build that fanbase and made the necessary commercial arrangement with the promotors? Like I said, stages like this can be real turning points in making a fan. So that's fascinating. If anyone knows, lemme know?
Daehwi (Wanna One)
Three Wanna Ones then took the stage to briefly MC. It was definitely Kang Daniel and uh, two other Wanna Ones! *hastily googles* It was Daehwi, who was the most fluent in English and was super cute & cheesy, and Minhyun, who was also cute but I don't remember much? Sorry team. The only Broduce bro I can 100% identify is Daniel, and sometimes Jaewhan. But! I think I'll remember Daehwi from now on - he was pretty memorable and did the most heavy lifting in the ments. Anyway they delivered some potted intros and then on to the next one.
WJSN then performed a special stage, covering two Kylie Minogue songs as two subunits - Locomotion (which I note came out in 1988, older than every single K-Con performer except for Sojin of Girl's Day) and I Can't Get You Out Of My Head (2001 - there are rookies debuting born in 2001! And younger! God i'm so old). Firstly much love for preparing a special stage with local appeal that didn't feel pandering and really spoke to the long history of amazing women in pop, and secondly THEY WERE SO GOOD. Fun, bright, poppy - I love them.
They were followed by Up10tion who did a high energy set and I remember why I liked them! They're good! I don't quite click with all their songs, especially their more recent ones which I feel are a bit hit and miss, but just like every other group in this K-Con they delivered their set with professionalism and skill and charm.
There was then a brief interlude with MX's Kihyun and I.M, MY TWO LOVES, MCing an audience dance game. We got to see Kihyun doing the Twice TT dance and my world was made. Gosh I love them.
WJSN
WJSN then came back for their set and I just really like them so much. They have that sleekness that I've come to associate with Starship because of them and MX, with both groups always having good choreo and catchy hooks. I like their concept a lot too - they're cute sassy cheerleaders, yes, but I also feel like there's this very cool edge to them, they could easily cut you! I love that! As they acknowledged in their ment, 2 members couldn't make it due to filming schedules (I think it was Cheng Xiao, the dancey/gymnastic one? And Mei Qi, possibly? I'm sorry, I don't remember) but they were still very good and I enjoyed their set a lot. And their main rapper - god, I'm sorry, I don't know if it was Bona or another member - she was SO GOOD? She had so much stage presence. Gosh. I need to find out her name.
Next up were Wanna One. Now, ofc, Produce 101 never officially aired in Australia. We had to watch it on the internet like a bunch of animals. And yet out of all the groups on both days, their fans were definitely the most intense and the most scream-y - yes, more intense than the Exo-Ls and the Monbebes!
I only ever saw snippets of P101 and as I said I can only ID Daniel with certainty, but I was, hmm, not surprised I guess that they turned out to be endearing? CAN U IMAGINE, a group of young men voted for according to their charms turns out to be extremely charming?! The shock! (From a purely commercial standpoint, what a brilliant exercise this has turned out to be. I think the limited timeframe for Wanna One to make bank lends an edge of urgency to their fandom and means their machine is also geared to maximum efficiency. Make! Bank! Now!) And because they're young and new, there was a certain edge of rawness and spontaneity to them which is naturally part of their appeal too. I still don't quite know what I feel about Kang Daniel - like I know he's very fond of cats and therefore a good person, and he has this easy, cocky stage charisma which makes his appeal seem very straightforward. But I think I found him most endearing when he missed a step at the end of his dance solo and there was just the cutest expression on his face, like "my bad."
For their Pinata game, they did photo time with hyung line posing "cutely" and maknae line posing "sexily" followed by some kind of free for all - A HOT MESS, lol.
Daehwi also went off script - or at least, he said he went off script, but can you ever really know? We need to go deeper! - and wished happy birthday to Kuanlin, getting the whole audience to sing along too, awww. As I said: what a group of charming young men; the self-awareness that they were constructed to charm ultimately means nothing.
FINALLY MONSTA X. They're, like, my second favourite group after BTS so I think I would've been just fine if they'd shown up and waved at us and sang like a song or two. But they didn't! They were really, really good. As headliners they had a signficant chunk of time and I think I was smiling from start to end, non stop.
They've turned into such good performers - with something similar to that same easy confidence that Girl's Day and Exo had - and I felt like they really did the most, on the second night, with connecting to the audience. Their performances were all on point, and everyone of them looked and sounded great but Jooheon especially killed me with swag and Wonho's collar & cleavage can fuck right off, ISTG. It just made me so happy to see them doing these songs and choreo I love so much - Shine Forever and Beautiful and Fighter - and they ended with Hero, my very first MX song, which was amazing. (I am a little sad they skipped All In but ok I can live with it.)
For their ment, they played the proposal game, with three members doing their very best fanservice lol. A very happy woman in the standing area got to be audience surrogate as I.M laid on cheesy lines (something about angels and heaven, IDK, why is he like this and why do I love him so much), Kihyun sang a ballad to her (next to me proteinscollide died a death), and Wonho came down to the barrier to to give her a heart, selfie & cheek kiss. It was so! Cheesy! And Wonderful! #the selfawareness does nothing
Everyone then came out for the goodbye, though MX were the only ones who felt relaxed enough it seems to actually get silly with the confetti and do some more spontaneous bows & waves to the crowd. By comparison to every other group on the 2nd night, they must be the old hands at K-Con by now - they've done SO many. Gosh I hope they come back to Australia for a full show. I love them so much.
Fuck, I'm now at 3300 words so let's wrap this up quick:
Unlike other K-Cons which seem to have a proper programming and convention stream, the "convention" part of this was really a disappointment. Minimal programming, minimal stalls (less than 10 vendors), all in one room. It was free entry which is fine I guess except that people were queuing up forever to get inside due to the limited capacity and it was H O T (over 30 C each day) out there. In the end I queued for an hour, and spent about 15 minutes inside. It was really not worth it. Luckily proteinscollide & I had options and just went away for a few hours to pass the time before the show, but I imagine there were a lot of kids left hanging around Olympic Park all day with nothing to do.
The shows didn't sell out. What does this mean? Possible thoughts:
-It was really expensive and the audience skews young. Like, the premium tickets were REALLY REALLY expensive and good tix were expensive. I could afford decent tix, but if I were in my teens? No way. I'd have had to ask my parents for it.
-Sydney has had a run of shows including an Australian-exclusive BTS show. If you're interstate and you already spent $$$ going to BTS, or for that matter $$$ to go G-Dragon in your own state, how much money do you have left over for concerts in this year? There is a limited capacity for this audience to keep spending. Promoters should be careful not to spread us too thin. Put more shows on in Melbourne! (Though I don't know - are there more Koreans and east Asians in Sydney? I suspect there are. The audience, again, skews heavily to those of us who are Asian-Australian.)
-Exo, MX, and Wanna One are very popular but don't have the same mainstream reach in Australia as BTS. BTS also had the advantage again of being earlier in the year, only the 2nd major kpop tour in the year I believe. Since then there's been other kpop and khip-hop shows for people to spend their money on. I really thought Exo would give BTS a run tho, given how well their latest album performed on Australian iTunes charts.
...that was not a quick wrap-up.
TO CONCLUDE: I HAD A GOOD TIME, THANK U FOR READING.

10. You’re stranded on a deserted island with one member, who would you want it to be? Why?probably hongseok for similar reasons to the above question, lol. hes stronk, he seems brave, and he’d probably be able to figure out how to do survival things.

so basically just sha la la era, lmao
15.
