I have too much on my to do list for next year.
Get in a volleyball club. Learn how to play the drums. 4 months internship. Then I gotta find a job starting January (hopefully in a warehouse with a sound equipment company). What's Happening?
Oikawa x m!reader (he/him/his)
A blind date? Why the hell not. Y/n is a wing spiker that plays city volleyball, not for the school, and Iwaizumi decides to play matchmaker.
The ~~ means a change in view or time.
Word Count: 4465
~
Why the hell is Iwaizumi so insistent on this? Y/n thought, as the volleyball player had begun berating him about going out with one of his friends. Iwa had been doing his damn best to get y/n to agree to a blind date with someone on the volleyball team, but he'd seen the guys on that team and nobody had really piqued his interest. Yet, here he was, again, for what felt like the thirtieth time.
"Just say you will, just go out to dinner or a movie or something simple. I've just got a feeling you'll like him, plus you've got nothing to lose. Nobody approaches you anyway." Y/n scoffed, giving Iwa a good shove in the process. He only laughed, "Oh what, you're mad I won't lie to you?"
"I'm mad you said that so loudly, we're in the middle of the hallway." Y/n complained, Iwa only rolling his eyes.
"Well if you'd just accept my invitation I wouldn't have to gloat about your terminal loneliness." Y/n couldn't even think of a witty response to match the absolute destruction Iwa brought with every word he spoke. "So, you're in?" He asked, y/n finally giving up and accepting his proposition.
Iwa grinned triumphantly, and nearly turned to leave, but y/n grabbed his arm, and stuck a finger in his face, "But I swear to god, if this goes south I will break every single one of your fingers so you'll never get to play volleyball ever again." Iwa let out a long whistle at y/n's threat, obviously not very feeling very threatened by it.
"I wouldn't be trying so hard if I didn't think it'd be successful. Just give him a chance, his first impressions aren't the best." Fantastic. "I'll send you details when I confirm with him, ok? Does after practice tonight work for you?" Reluctantly, y/n nodded and let Iwa go. They parted ways and headed towards their classrooms then, y/n's anxiety skyrocketing at the thought of going on a date with someone he didn't even remotely know.
He tried to relax during classes, telling himself over and over that it would be ok because Iwa must be close friends with whoever it was, but the pit in his stomach just kept growing. What if he actually liked whoever it was, but it wasn't mutual? What if he couldn't make conversation and it was just super awkward the whole time? A swarm of 'what ifs' crowded his mind and he didn't get much work done. When the day finally ended, he about booked it out of the classroom, hoping that getting to his practice would help take his mind off things.
In his rush, he ran straight into the back of someone just barely taller than him who'd randomly stopped in the middle of the walkway.
"Shit, sorry. Are you ok?" Y/n asked the stranger, helping him pick up a handful of flyers he had dropped at the collision. He looked to be around the same age as y/n, messy brown hair and gentle features, he looked incredible. There wasn't a single mark on his fair skin, and even though his hair looked untamed, it seemed to fall exactly where the stranger willed it to. He also had a pretty lean build, y/n thought he'd probably be really good at volleyball if he didn't already play it.
The stranger flashed him a smile, "I'm alright, I shouldn't have stopped like that, sorry. Thanks for the help though, you can keep one of them if you'd like." Y/n looked down at the papers he was helping pick up and noticed they were flyers for the volleyball club's match this weekend against Shiratorizawa.
"Are you on the club team here?" Y/n asked, though he felt it was a stupid question given that he was promoting it by hanging up these flyers.
The stranger took no offense to his question though, and nodded. "I'm actually the captain, and the main setter."
"Uh, wow, I'm sorry I'm taking up your time, I'm sure you're busy." He shrugged, the two of them soon standing after having gathered all the loose flyers. "If you want," He offered, "I could take some of the flyers and hand them out to guys on my team, I'm sure they'd like to watch." The captain gave him a slightly confused look, but happily handed him a small stack of the papers.
They started walking towards the main entrance of the school and continued talking about volleyball, the captain immensely interested in y/n's team.
"So you play on a team composed of people from all around Miyagi, not one neighborhood or school in particular? And its aged 16-24?" Y/n nodded in response to each of his questions. "That sounds like it could be a lot of fun, but who do you play against? How do you guys practice if everybody's spread out?"
He explained it the best he could, their system was slightly more complex than the school's. "Those of us that live close to each other practice everyday, and once a week we choose somewhere in Miyagi to meet up and practice as a group. There are other groups in Miyagi that we play against, and some from other prefectures too. City league sports are actually pretty popular, but a lot of people don't know they exist because they're wrapped up in their school's club."
They kept going back and forth until they'd reached the separation point, the stranger headed over to the gyms, and y/n headed out onto the sidewalk to get to his own court.
"Before we go our separate ways, what's your name? I'd like to join one of your practices sometime if that's ok." Y/n was honestly elated to hear that from the captain. Sure Iwa had told him all about how great their team was, and even a little about this captain, but y/n really wanted to see it for himself.
"You can just call me y/n, I'm in class 3-B. What about you?" He replied, extending his hand.
"Oikawa, Tōru." He stated, firmly shaking y/n's hand. "I'm in 3-A, It's nice to meet you y/n, I look forward to playing with you sometime." Oikawa left, off to his gym, and y/n off to his court. He was contemplating texting Iwa to cancel his blind date, not wanting to go out with someone on Oikawa's team after having just met him. He'd rather just go out with the captain, but with the way he looked? There was no way he didn't have a girlfriend or something already.
Y/n tried to keep his mind off the date and the captain, he just wanted to play his game without any distractions.
He was unsuccessful. He was a wing spiker for his team, and he missed well over half of the sets he got. Luckily it was just a regular practice, not the full group one, that was in a few days still. He repeatedly apologized to his teammates, but they didn't hold it against him.
"You seem pretty lost today, what's going on?" His setter asked, while everyone was getting some water.
Y/n sighed, looking up at the sky and taking in the clouds. He loved that they practiced outside, it was so much nicer than being stuck in a gym. "A friend of mine who's on the volleyball team at school has been begging to set me up on a blind date with someone on his team, and I finally agreed to it. It'll be just after we're both done today."
"That sounds like fun! Why aren't you more excited?" Y/n shrugged,
"I met the captain of their team today, and he's everything I could want, but there's no way someone like him is single. I just think it'll be weird if I go out with someone on his team while we just met, I don't know." He mumbled, but his teammates understood his unease about the situation.
One of the older guys on their team, he'd just turned 21, clapped him on the back. "You never know, maybe he's the one you got set up with!" Y/n hadn't even thought about that, Iwa did talk about that captain pretty often...But there was still no way he was single, surely. "Just don't think about it to hard, it's always been your downfall. Live in the moment, y/n!" He weakly smiled at his teammates, thanking them for the confidence boosters.
They got back to their practice shortly after, and y/n's tact started returning.
About an hour and half later his practice had come to an end, and he finally got to start freaking about his blind date. When he got home, he destroyed his closet looking for something to wear, not loving any of his options. He stared at his clothes for several minutes before he realized they weren't going to change by him staring at them. He opted to take a shower and come back, hoping he'd maybe get an idea along the way.
When he'd finished, he threw on a pair of sweats and went back to his room, where he was surprised to find someone sifting through his clothing pile.
"Iwa?" He questioned, guessing that it was his friend by the back of his head. The spiky hair wasn't hard to miss, and soon the intruder had turned around and waved to him.
"Your sister let me in, I figured you'd need help finding an outfit." Y/n rolled his eyes, but didn't get in the way, secretly grateful for the help. "You should wear this, you're going to dinner so it's better to be like business casual. I know that's what he's going for..." Iwa mumbled, now kicking through Y/n's shoes until he found something he liked. Y/n took the outfit from his hands so he could more thoroughly dig through all of his belongings.
"I'll go put this on I guess...?" Iwa was too captivated by his current task to say anything, so y/n just disappeared back into the bathroom to change. He'd picked out a black button down that y/n had forgotten he owned, and a pair of pleated off-white slacks. When he'd assembled it, he actually quite liked it, albeit a bit surprised by Iwa's ability to style an outfit.
He went back to the room, Iwa complimenting him on how it looked. "Now, just add some accessories and keep a few buttons undone and you'll be ready. I set shoes by the door for you, so let's go." Y/n nodded, quickly putting on a few of his favorite rings and a small silver chain, leaving a few of the buttons on his shirt undone like Iwa had told him.
Iwa lead him out the door and they walked for a few blocks, y/n soon knowing where they were going. He'd seen the restaurant a few times, not actually having gotten a chance to try it yet. Iwa sent him off on his own once they were across the street from the restaurant.
"Good luck! Don't take it too seriously, have some fun ok?" He vigorously shook y/n's shoulders before pushing him towards the crosswalk. Y/n gave him a final wave, and made his way to the restaurant.
~
Oikawa checked his watch, he was pretty early. He didn't mind though, he'd be able to get a good table and get some time to figure out how he wanted to play tonight. He'd agreed to the blind date because it was Iwa suggesting it, he knew that despite the dick he was, Iwa wouldn't set him up with someone he wouldn't at least somewhat like. After earlier though, he didn't really want to do this. Bumping into y/n was the highlight of his day, he'd immediately found the guy more than attractive. He acted distant though, as if he didn't want to get close to Tōru for some reason, but he couldn't be sure, they'd just met.
You're not here for him though, focus. As much as he wanted the evening to already be over, he would entertain his date and ensure they both had a nice enough time. He'd hate for it to be a total waste of time and money so he told himself he'd stick it through no matter what.
Several minutes passed, and it was nearly the agreed upon time now, Oikawa becoming slightly nervous he'd be stood up even though they didn't know each other.
"Eh? Oikawa? What're you doing here?" He'd been looking at the menu, but the familiar voice jarred him. He looked over, and noticed the waitress was gesturing for him to sit, and saying she'd be back to take our orders in a few minutes.
"Y/n! I'm, uh-my friend set me up on a blind date, what a coincidence seeing you here. You must be meeting your boyfr- I mean your partner or something. You look great!" Oikawa felt his face heating up, he shouldn't have just assumed that y/n was queer, and now he'd made things weird, awesome.
Y/n didn't seem phased by his words though, in fact he started laughing. "That damn Hajime." The realization soon settled on Oikawa, y/n was his blind date. Here he'd been, hoping that it would happen, and he had gotten exactly what he'd wanted.
"Well, it's good to see you again, so soon!" Y/n smiled, "What're the odds?" Oikawa chucked, relieved y/n hadn't reacted strangely to his mumblings before. Y/n opened his menu, sifting through the options, but couldn't seem to pick one out.
"Can I recommend something?" Oikawa asked.
Y/n looked up at him and immediately closed his menu, setting his gaze on Oikawa, lightly laughing as he accepted his invitation. "God please, there's so much to chose from I can barely think." Oikawa giggled and pointed out a few options that had caught his eye, but he noticed that y/n wasn't really paying attention to what he was saying. He just kept his eyes on Oikawa while he spoke, it felt like he was more focused on his movements than what he was actually saying.
Oikawa quieted when the waitress came back and asked for their orders, y/n gesturing for him to go first. "I'll have a bowl of Nabeyaki Udon, please." She smiled at him, and moved her focus to y/n.
"I'll have the same, thank you." She nodded, and left the two once again.
"Not very creative, y/n." He commented, y/n quickly rolling his eyes.
"I couldn't decide! If it's good enough for you to eat, I'm sure it'll be more than fine for me too." Y/n nervously laughed, Oikawa noticing him shifting in his seat and playing with his hands. He was nervous. Oikawa couldn't decide whether he wanted to say to say something or not, he didn't want to make things worse by any means but he didn't want y/n to be that nervous to be on a date with him.
He pursed his lips for a moment, then did his best to offer the nervous a kind smile. "Why're you so shaken up? Didn't want it to be me?" He joked, hoping y/n would pick up on the tone in his voice.
Thankfully, it seemed like he had. "No, no, I'm glad it's you! I mean, it's not a bad thing that it's you. It's actually kind of nice since we already met." He rambled, but the nervous energy that surrounded him seemed to fade. "I just, I dunno, I couldn't imagine that you could possibly be...single, I guess." He said, Oikawa's eyebrows raising in surprise. "No offense! It's just that you're so, charismatic and uh, yeah you're- fuck." He buried his head in his hands, Oikawa chuckling at his state.
"It's ok, maybe I was just waiting for you to come along..." He smirked, y/n's head moving from his hands onto the table, the tips of his ears having turned pink. "Aw, blushing for me? I'm honored!" Y/n couldn't even attempt to look at Oikawa.
"Will you shut up for a few minutes so I can fucking relax?!" Oikawa laughed, and reached his arms out to rest his hands on y/n's.
"No." When y/n felt Oikawa's hands on his own, he immediately looked up at him. He didn't try to move his hands out from under Tōru's, which he was grateful for, but he couldn't seem to string any words together.
The waitress saved him, having reappeared at their table with the food they'd ordered. Oikawa retracted his hands from y/n's as his and the other's bowls were placed in front of them. They both thanked her and started digging into their food. Things were quiet for several minutes, neither really wanting to attempt conversation while they ate, but Tōru could tell the tension between them had largely dissipated.
After they'd eaten, they made small talk, about hobbies, favorite colors, all the usual. Eventually, the check came to them and Oikawa managed to pay for everything, much to y/n's dismay. They'd argued as much as they could've until the waitress had shown up again and Oikawa forced the bill out of y/n's hands.
"I'll pay next time, it's only fair." Y/n said as they were leaving the restaurant.
"Next time? Another date, you mean?" He questioned, hoping to see y/n change colors again. This time though, y/n put a sliver of confidence in himself and his response.
"Obviously, you couldn't keep your eyes or your hands to yourself. Of course there'd be another date." The way he raised an eyebrow at Oikawa reminded him a bit of himself, but he loved that y/n could dish it back to him. "Anyway," he ventured, "Can I walk you home? Unless you wanted to do something else."
Truthfully, Tōru didn't want the night to end. He longed to come up with activity after activity so he could stay with y/n, he had a calming presence which helped ease Tōru's ever-crowded mind. He was always thinking about volleyball and school, always about how he could be improving or what he'd been doing wrong. But tonight - tonight he hadn't thought about anything except for y/n, making him laugh or blush, or just listening to what he had to say.
"Hey, are you there? Did I scare you or something?" He looked up, now realizing he'd totally spaced out and didn't even know for how long.
He blinked a few times, and looked around. Apparently they'd ended up walking to some park he didn't immediately recognize. "Sorry, I just got distracted, my bad. Also, where are we?" Y/n lightly laughed and looked around, apparently also not having realized they'd kept walking directionless.
"This, oh this is the park where I practice! I guess I came here out of habit, the court we use is over there." He pointed over to where a net was set up and there was a rectangle of concrete with painted lines. "So, uh, did you want me to walk you home? Or...?" Ah right his question from earlier. Let's try not to forget to answer it this time.
"Well, I don't have plans for the rest of the evening, and it's not super late yet... But if you do, then we can totally-"
"I don't." Y/n interrupted, his clam gaze making Oikawa a bit anxious. Ever since they left the restaurant, the vibes had completely switched, Oikawa was forgetting who he was and what was going on while y/n flirted and stayed collected. "I've still got my keys, I could grab a ball if you want to hit a few." Finally, something Tōru understood. If there was one thing he couldn't look bad doing, it was volleyball.
"If you insist." He replied. "Try not to get too intimidated though, I'm one of the best y'know." Again, y/n didn't falter at his attempt to fluster him.
"But you haven't made it to nationals like Miya has, so why should I be scared?" MIYA? Y/n knew someone who played at the national level? Now he wasn't so sure about what he'd said. Of course he knew he was a fantastic setter, one of the best in his own opinion, but he'd not played against or with someone who was a regular at nationals.
At an attempt to collect himself, he waved off y/n's comment. "So what? Just because I haven't made it to nationals yet doesn't mean I'm not the best setter out there."
"I guess we'll just have to see." Y/n shot back, before jogging over to the storage shed near the court. He dug out a volleyball and tossed it to Oikawa, who gently received it without a second thought.
"You said you're wing spiker, right?" He asked, y/n nodded. "What kind of set do you like?" This time, y/n only shrugged.
"You'll just have to figure it out, 'best setter out there'." He sneered, walking onto the concrete platform and towards the right side. Oikawa scoffed and went off towards the left. I'll find out, on the first one. He told himself, though it wasn't the most realistic, but he always like a challenge.
Oikawa set, and y/n spiked over and over again, Oikawa priding himself on figuring out what y/n liked within his first (but likely his second or third) set. They only stopped when it had gotten too dark out to see very clearly over the net, both of them having a slight sweat. As y/n put the ball back, Oikawa asked him more about how he knew the person from nationals, it bothered him that y/n might have had a setter that he thought was better.
"Oh, Miya? God I don't even remember how we met, I think he plays for a city team in his spare time." Y/n said, "Yeah, we met at a tournament. His team beat us, but only barely, we did five sets and it was down to the last, the score I think was 20-22 in the end." Oikawa whistled, he knew how exhausting a game like that could be. "Anyway, after we played against each other, he approached me and almost begged me to let him set for me." He laughed to himself, but Oikawa's mind was everywhere. "We played a little after that game and became good friends, he always updates me on his tournaments and games."
Oikawa's fatal flaw was that he had a massive god-complex, and right now it was definitely being complex. His mind was about to take a total downward turn when y/n punched his shoulder.
"Don't look like that, you idiot." Y/n sneered.
"What? Look like what?" He demanded.
"Don't get jealous. Don't get upset just because I know some great setter, I can't even begin to compare you two and you've never even met him. Don't get your tits in a twist so quickly, now come on it's dark, we're both tired, and it's obviously past your bedtime." Tōru's mind went blank, even if he could think up a response, there'd be now way he'd bring himself to say it. He hadn't been put in his place like that before, sure Iwa gave him reality checks every now and then, but nobody could read him like that.
Y/n started walking, but turned to face Tōru and held out his hand, waiting for him to take it. He didn't say anything, just waved his hand around and stared at Tōru until he finally took it. Y/n's hand was warm, and strong, just like a spiker's should be.
"Where's your house?" Y/n asked him, his face void of any snark or ego that it had only moments earlier.
"It's up by the school, two streets north." Y/n nodded and confidently lead him in the general direction. "How are you so calm all of a sudden?" He found himself asking, the events of their date confusing him.
Y/n chuckled as he looked to the sky. "After you ripped the bill out of my hands at that restaurant, I knew you weren't as serious or intimidating as I had thought you were when I first met you. Our conversations and getting to hit your sets after we ate was so much more relaxed, I just felt like I could be myself. I don't like formal situations like sit down dinners at fancy restaurants, I didn't even know what to wear, Iwa picked this out."
Hearing that Hajime had picked out what y/n was wearing made Tōru feel better, he thought he was a total disaster today but he hadn't been alone. "I thought this was going to be easy, but you just keep making me forget how to think." He lightly squeezed Tōru's hand at the comment,
"That's probably a good thing, isn't it? You probably think way to much." He sighed,
"You're definitely right. Guess I'm extremely lucky for having you physically run into me today."
Y/n smiled, "You're so welcome."
They approached Oikawa's neighborhood, and he directed y/n to his house, y/n only letting go of Oikawa's hand when they got to his front steps. "Thanks, for tonight. It was fun, I'm looking forward to next time." Y/n said, a slight blush dusting his cheeks and the bridge of his nose.
"Me too, even though I'll probably see you again tomorrow, right?" Y/n's face dropped, he'd totally forgotten they went to school together.
Thoroughly embarrassed, he rubbed the back of his neck and tried to laugh it off. "Eh, true- our classes are neighbors." He took a deep breath and faced Tōru, "Well, I'll see you later. Have a good night, Oikawa." He barely got a chance to reply before y/n had turned around to leave, so he grabbed the shoulder closest to him, and turned the boy to face him again.
"What, no goodbye kiss? We're basically dating now right?" Y/n turned nearly purple at the comment, definitely not having expected it. He tried stuttering out some kind of response, so Oikawa put him out of his misery and tugged the gent towards him.
He could feel y/n's anxiety melt away as they kissed, his arms wrapping around Tōru's waist, his in return folding around y/n's neck. Y/n couldn't believe what was happening, but he was beyond happy that it was.

Itadakimasu!! | Part 11: I'm Sorry (Written Chapter)
word count: 3.1k
The Mixtape: Thinking of you | CA, 1979
The music that pooled out of Onigiri Miya was anything but what you expected. A small smile crept up onto your face - despite your best efforts - and with a featherlight touch, you crept into the restaurant, silently thanking the soft jazz for drowning out the creaks as you pushed the door open in search of a certain chef.
Osamu stood at the sink, hands working some leftover dishes from the work day. He hummed softly along to the music, and it surprised you just how nice he sounded - how his deep hum complemented the honey voice that dripped through the speakers; rich, thick, and soft like velvet. You padded into the kitchen, clutching the wine and apron closer to your frame so as not to bump it on anything that could give you away, and allowed yourself a few minutes to listen and appreciate before ultimately ruining the moment.
“I didn’t know you could sing, Miya.” You brought a hand up to suppress a giggle as he stiffened and dropped the plate he had been washing with a loud clatter. Osamu bowed his head and cleared his throat, loud enough to drown out the music for a brief moment before it ultimately pervaded the kitchen once more. He grabbed the nearest towel to dry his hands before reaching for the remote, the music ceasing with a quick click. Once he turned around, your eyes immediately fell on the dusted pink that settled onto his cheeks, and you did your best to ignore the warmth that ignited in your chest at the sight.
"So, Etta James, huh?" Osamu coughed awkwardly, turning his attention back toward the sink to finish up the last few dishes that lingered in the basin.
"Ya know Etta James?" An affirming hum left your lips as you placed the bottle of wine and your apron on the island, eyes flitting over the rustic kitchen in search of wine glasses.
The kitchen was a decent size, the bright wooden counters and cabinets a stark contrast to the dark iron of the appliances, but it complemented each other and suited the space well. The soft ivory paint on the walls kept the overall area from being too loud compared to the rest of the restaurant, and you wondered if Kita was behind the greenery that added a lush, vibrant addition to the otherwise plain shop. Your eyes landed on a modest pile of cookbooks stored neatly in the corner, and you let out a huff of victory as you made your way over to the wine glasses that sat in a windowed cabinet above them.
"My parents were big fans, they've always had a funny fascination with America," you explained, and from the corner of your eye you saw him nod. The two of you relished in the, for once, comfortable beats of silence that followed, and you were surprised when he - for a second time since you had met him - decided to be the one break it.
"My Ma used to have this busted up, old, mix tape that she would play every night when she made dinner. Got it at a flea market when she spent a semester abroad in California. She always talked about how she wished she could visit again." The fondness in his voice made your heart squeeze. You busied yourself, listening intently as you placed two wine glasses onto the counter and filled them generously. "Eventually the cassette broke from years of abuse, but I managed to find the songs and make her a playlist. She still listens to it, every night, and I guess I got so used to it that it feels almost...wrong, to cook without hearin' it in the background, even though I'm not home anymore." You slid one glass over to him and he raised a brow at it, a soft smile pointed your way.
"I think ya skimped me a bit," he joked, and you chuckled sheepishly, a hand coming to scratch the back of your neck.
"What can I say, I like my wine." He chuckles as you reach for the small remote.
"You didn't have to stop it, you know. I love me some Etta," you said, and his smile widened ever so slightly as you pressed play, the smooth voice fluttering through the speakers once more, softer this time as you adjusted the volume. You lifted the wine glass to your lips, taking a tentative first sip. The second the bittersweet liquid hit your tongue, you closed your eyes and sighed into the familiarity. It flashed you back to Tokyo; the seemingly endless nights on the balcony with Tendou and Semi, your drunken laughter rivaling the music in volume as Semi sang along with fervor - but, really, does anyone sound good when they're nearly a bottle deep?
Reality slammed into you like a meteor, and you were instantly struck back into the present moment, meeting Osamu's eyes as he watched you curiously. You felt the warmth crawl up your neck from the embarrassment, and you cleared your throat in the hopes that you could divert his attention to literally anything else.
"So, are you gonna teach me how to properly make some Onigiri tonight?" His eyes fell on the apron you brought, the one he gifted to you, and his eyebrows shot up in surprise as his lips settled into a playful smirk.
"Who said anythin' about 'teach'? I said I'd show ya how I make it; I didn' say nothin' about teachin' ya."
"And miss out on learning how to make Onigiri Miya's signature dish? No way." Osamu scoffed as you grabbed your apron and began tying it around your waist. His arms folded in front of him, his lips a thin line. You couldn't tell if he was thinking or already disapproving.
"This was meant to be an apology, you know," he started, but you cut him off.
"I know! And what better apology than by helping me perfect my shaping?" The resigned sigh that followed meant a victory for you, the grin proof enough for both of you that you had won. "So, what are we making today?"
"I figured I'd keep it simple tonight. Ya like fatty tuna?" Of course you do. Who doesn’t? "Great, let's get started then."
To be honest, you weren't expecting Osamu to be as patient with you as he was. Even though you were decently acquainted with the 'art form' that was Onigiri (as so eloquently and dramatically described by Osamu), you decided to entertain him and pretend to struggle with every step - over shredding the tuna, spilling the spices, adding too much mayo - in the minor hope that you could catch him stressed and maybe a bit frustrated - but to your somewhat disappointment, mostly pleasant surprise, every effort to get at least a furrowed brow or a groan was met with a warm smile, sometimes a breathy chuckle, and a strong pair of arms gently guiding you through the correct steps.
It was as equally frustrating as it was endearing.
"Now ya wanna dip yer hands into the dish of water I left on the side for ya, yeah, great, that's it - now grab a pinch of salt - not too much, just a pinch, and ya wanna rub it into yer hands to prep for the rice."
"What if I have a cut somewhere?"
"Do ya have a cut?"
"Well, not that I know of, but what if there's a cut I don't know about?"
"Well then I guess we'll find out soon, won' we?"
You huffed, but nonetheless pinched the tiny mountain of salt and collected a modest amount before tentatively rubbing it into your hands. Your shoulders were stiff the entire time, prepared for the sudden sting on the off chance the salt decided to acquaint itself with an unknown wound on your hand. You heard Osamu stifle a laugh, and your eyes met his as he smirked at your cautious form.
"Stop staring at me, focus on your own stupid rice ball." He laughed - loudly, beautifully - and you felt your hands tremble the slightest bit as you tried to put all of your focus on making a stupid, dumb triangle out of some stupid, dumb rice.
"Need some help?" You merely grumbled in response as the little bundle of rice and filling crumbled in your hands, despite your feeble attempts at shaping it. He set his own, perfectly shaped, onigiri aside and scooched over to you, his arms reaching around your form, chest pressed lightly against your back. "Yer pressing in too softly, so the rice isn't holding. Cup yer hands like this-" he cupped your hands within his own "-just like that. Now press a little firmer, like this." You were trying your best to pay attention to what he was showing you, you really were - but you couldn't help but marvel at how soft his hands were. You expected them to be rough; calloused from years of cooking, volleyball, and the handyman side hobby, but clearly that wasn’t the case. What kind of lotion did he use to make them feel so smooth? Probably some fancy homemade Aloe Vera lotion Kita made for him, you thought with a scoff.
This new revelation had also made you hyper aware that your hands were not, in fact, soft - countless burns, cuts, and other various acts of carelessness in the kitchen have given your hands a battle worn texture that no amount of hoity toity, all natural Aloe Vera would be able to soften up. He must have been cringing inside just having to touch the absolute burlap that is your haggard looking, stupid hands, oh god-
"Nice job, yer doin' great." The gentleness in his voice plucked you from your inner turmoil, effectively grounding you back to the task at hand. What was once a crumbling mess of rice and tuna now stood a beautifully crafted onigiri, the plump triangle nestled snuggly in between your hands. A gasp left you as you beamed at the finished product, and you whipped your head toward him, twisting slightly within his grip so you could face him properly.
It was then that you realized just how close he was to you.
Whatever words you had planned to say to him died in your throat as your brain tried to comprehend why the hell his face was so close to yours. Osamu seemed to be in a similar state of shock, eyes wide and mouth emulating a fish, opening and shutting when the words weren't coming to him. From the way your own mouth gaped, you imagined you shared a similar expression.
Simultaneously, almost comically, you separated yourselves and severed eye contact, Osamu finding something above you particularly interesting. What exactly, you weren't sure - you were too busy eyeing every minute detail of the remarkably plain tile flooring.
Like an awkward embrace from an old friend you never truly vibed with, the uncomfortable silence settled between you two once again.
It would have almost felt nostalgic, if you didn't hate it with a seething passion.
'And my arms need someone, someone to enfold'
The playful jazz number cut through the silence, and you mentally cursed Etta for clearly not reading the room - your arms were certainly not looking to enfold anybody at the moment, and you imagined it was likely that Osamu felt the same.
You spun back around toward your work station, a quick roll of your shoulders the only indication that you were gonna keep working, because you sure as shit didn't trust whatever would have come out of your mouth had you chosen to open it. Lucky for you, he seemed to get the hint and moved back toward his own work station, making quick work of shaping what he had left, while you continued to struggle, albeit far less than before.
Not a word had been uttered in the moments that followed, the music filling the awkward rift that split between you.
To be honest, you felt guilty that nearly every interaction between you two inevitably dissolved into a dense, unbearable tension; the once lighthearted mood suddenly cracked open like a fault line, the quiet settling between you like dust, and it always felt so thick that trying to bring the moment back its old, enlightened state seemed to take such an immense amount of effort - effort that neither one of you appeared to want to put forth.
You wondered if Osamu shared a similar sentiment.
While you finished up the last of your onigiri, you allowed your attention to flicker to Osamu as he eyed the leftover tuna filling with seemingly great interest, brows furrowed and lips pressed into a thin line. You watched as he scooped the mess onto his finger, putting obvious effort into keeping it balanced as he brought the teetering pile to his lips. Right as he went to close his lips around his finger, the tiny mountain fell, smearing onto his chin and landing on the counter with the saddest little ‘splat’ you'd ever heard. The disappointment he exuded at his misfortune is what ultimately broke you, and you laughed - a bright, gleeful sound that dispelled the suffocating air in an instant, and made you feel like you could finally breathe again (which was ironic, considering how out of breath you were from the incessant giggles that sprung free with absolutely no regard for your lung capacity).
Your hand flew to your mouth in an (admittedly failed) attempt to stifle yourself, as well as possibly save the last shred of rapidly waning dignity Osamu was probably holding onto for dear life. You folded in on yourself, laughter bouncing off the restaurant floor and - again, probably - stabbing directly into Osamu's crumbling pride.
Just as you opened your mouth to apologize, Osamu's loud, beautiful laugh cut through your own, and at the sight of his uncharacteristically bright smile, accompanied with the little smear of mayo on his chin, you realized that, maybe, probably, he was actually doing just fine; and that this - laughing with him - was something you'd never been given the chance to do before, and you'd be lying if you said it wasn't something you wished you could do more often.
You hoped that, maybe, Osamu wanted that, too.
"So, I take it they didn't teach you how to make onigiri at your fancy schmancy culinary school?" He smiled as you bit back a groan. It was embarrassing, how ugly your onigiri looked next to his. Sure, you were joking about your incompetence in the beginning in the hopes to rile him up a little; but when it came to actually forming the balls, well - there's a reason the spite onigiri you made were small and round.
"You win this time, rice man." He boldly plucked one of your creations and plopped it onto his plate, while you opted for one of his. You knew yours were gonna have too much mayo and way too much seasoning, and you weren't about to subject yourself to that.
You took a bite out of the rice ball and audibly moaned - how is something so simple so delicious? He chuckled, lazy smile draped across his features as he watched you eat. The little sparkle in his eyes didn't go unnoticed by you, and you felt a tiny tug on your heart at how excited he was that you were enjoying his food, even if he wasn't being outwardly showy about it like you tended to be.
"'This time'? Does that mean we're doing this again?" You reached for another one of his as you hummed to yourself.
"Hmm, maybe. Maybe I'll force you to bake me some macarons." You were kidding, of course - you wouldn't wish that upon even your worst enemies - but the way his eyes brightened and he agreed with a small but noticeable lilt to his voice had you wondering if maybe making macarons wouldn't be all that bad if you made them with him.
He bit into your onigiri, taking a far more generous bite than you would have, and you snickered at the obvious attempt to conceal the grimace he had involuntarily made upon swallowing. The way he tiptoed around his critique of your failure was incredibly endearing ("It's not bad, just...mayo-y." "You don't have to eat it, you know." "No no, you worked hard, I'm gonna eat it."), and you felt the first little crack form in the walls you had begun to keep up around him ever since the curry incident.
The longer you enjoyed the food, wine, and - surprisingly - company, the harder it became to ignore the guilt that had settled onto your heart earlier in the evening. What started off as a mere twinge had become a sizeable weight in your chest, growing each moment you spent with him that didn't make you want to launch him off the summit of Mount Fuji.
"I'm sorry," you said, quiet and out of the blue. He shot you a confused smile.
"Pretty sure that's my job right now," he pointed out, and you offered a meek chuckle in response.
"I shouldn't have sold the dessert onigiri. Seeing just how passionate you are makes me realize the gravity of what I did. My ego was a little bruised and instead of being an adult about it, I openly insulted you and Kita by making a mockery of your business. I took it too far, and I'm really sorry about that. I'm sure it goes without saying, but I'm gonna stop making them so you don't have to worry anymore." He was quiet, staring at you in a way he hadn't before, and it made you feel far too exposed, playing with the rice crumbled on your plate as you waited for a reaction.
"I'm sorry, too. I only said those things because the idea of you expanding yer menu terrified me. Yer an amazin' chef, and I honestly think ya could run me out of business one day." His voice was soft, too; and you felt the crack grow considerably wider, your vulnerability peeking through pinched brows and hands that you couldn't seem to keep still. "I've always wanted to open up a location in Tokyo, and expand the menu. Onigiri made sense because it's always been a source of comfort, but as much as I love makin' em, there're others things I wanna make, too."
The air between you was...light. The weight that usually settled itself into your shoulder blades seemed to have dissipated, and you couldn't tell if it was the wine, the time, or Osamu. Maybe it was all three.
"I...I like it better when we don't hate each other," you said.
"I never hated you," he said.
"I never hated you either," you admitted.
"Does that mean we can stop pretending we do?" He looked you, and you saw hope.
You smiled.
"Yeah," you said. "We can."

Fun facts -
Osamu listening to old 60′s love songs just did something to me ok, especially my girl Etta
Kita is 100% responsible for the plants
Osamu’s mom kept the tape, even after it finally broke beyond repair. It reminds her of Osamu’s father, who she met that summer in Cali
he was another exchange student from Japan. They had a summer fling and inevitably said their goodbyes when the summer was over and he had to fly back home.
They ended up bumping into each other a year after she moved back - and fate has been a big theme for the Miya’s ever since.
Osamu has always felt a little funny about it - it feels too convenient, and he doesn’t like the idea of not being in control of his own path.
He thought your ugly rice balls were disgusting, obviously, and he was sure to eat his own after the first one lmao
A/n - when you haven’t updated in so long you have to look at past chapters to remember how you formatted 😭. Nothin’ On You // Sero x Shy!Reader
A/N: Kinda long! But I owe Sero for taking so long on finishing this! Hope you like it! ^^
The first time you meet is for a school project
In middle school he was the cool guy that got along with pretty much everyone. At first you would hide away, which was easy with a quirk like yours. You would turn translucent and mute according to your mood, so every time you tried to muster up the courage to talk to him when he passed you by in the halls, you would completely disappear. It was a game of chance to see who was paired with who when the fated project came up, but when you were paired with Sero you almost entirely disappeared off of the face of the earth. You begin to wonder if you could escape class without being noticed when he makes his way over and plops down in the seat next to you.
"Name's Hanta Sero, what's yours?"
Your face flushes, body turning translucent for a split second before you take his hand and shake it. "It's..." Your voice fails you. Of course it had to happen now. Your quirk just had to be a two-in-one kind of deal.
Lifting a finger, you scribble your name down on a loose piece of paper and offer it to him.
He looks at the scrap of paper with curiosity. “Cute name.” He looks back to you. “Is that your quirk? The..?” He motions to his body and mouth.
You nod sagely.
He beams. "Nice to meet you."
The tension in your shoulders lessen. Grabbing your textbook and one of your notebooks made for this type of situation, you write down several questions before pointing to the textbook pages.
He reads each message, surprisingly more patient with your quirk than others. Some expected you to push past it or get over your shyness, but he went with it. It made you feel.. valid. Like your quirk wasn't a burden.
“Sounds like we'll be having a few all nighters on this one, Mr. Takeshi expects waaay too much of us if he wants this done in a week.” Sero looks at you curiously. “What do you think? We could do it at one of those 24/7 cafes nearby.”
Feeling yourself relaxing, you realize you've returned to being opaque as you nod in agreement. "Sounds like a plan."
His smile brightens. "Hey, your voice is pretty cute too chica!"
This time you're glad you disappear from sight, hands covering your mouth as he laughs heartily.
The project was an odd success
After your initial shock and shyness of being paired up with Sero, you both were a rather successful couple when it came to academics. You split the work equally and helped each other when either of you needed it. While he wasn't always the brightest, he always managed to put a smile on your face when you were studying long into the night, when your eyelids grew too heavy and your will to study lessened. When the day of the presentation came and you both took to the front of the class, it was his support that kept you from disappearing out of fright. However, now that it was over, you were surprised he still wanted to hang out with you, even if it wasn't required anymore.
“Oi, chiquita bonita! Over here!” Sero waves to you from across the classroom. He was sitting in his normal spot with his usual clique, and normally you didn't mix with them. They seemed nice, but it was always awkward when you joined him. You felt like they only tolerated you because of him.
Gathering your items, you shuffle out of your desk space and join him, blushing slightly as he scoots his seat to the side to make space for you right next to him. You could feel the burning stares of the girls surrounding him. You held on though, focusing on staying opaque, knowing he would try getting to the bottom of why you were nervous. Oh if only he knew how hated you were by his clique of girls.
“We did pretty good on the presentation didn't we?” He asks while draping an arm across the back of your chair, his body completely at ease. “Even the cabrón was impressed.”
You smack him lightly on the back of his head. You didn't know a lot of spanish, if at all, but you picked up some slang from the boy next to you. “Don't be mean Hanta, he's not all that bad.”
The girls’ hiss at your action, but Sero only laughs and tugs you closer under his arm. “Lo siento cariño. I'm sorry, but it's not my fault he has a stick up there.” He gestures upward with his middle finger.
You knew if you tried speaking, your voice would have fizzled out like a drop of water on a hot stove.
After the project you two were nearly inseparable, everyone knew you and Sero were an item (even if you both didn't see it)
“Dios mio! What did we do to earn this princesa?”
You turn around to the source of the voice, pausing on decorating the stage of the auditorium. It was Sero, you could tell immediately by his voice, but what you didn't understand was the context of his words. What was he talking about?
The confusion must have shown on your face as he moves closer and climbs onto the stage, walking up to you until he was by your side. “You're all dolled up. What's the occasion?” He holds you by the shoulders and peers behind you as well, earning a pinch on his cheek.
“It's the dance this week, remember? But the play is before, so we have to set up so it's all ready for the night. That means dress rehearsals too.” You were a part of the theatre group, an odd choice for someone who disappears when they get stage fright, but you were heavily invested in what you did. It was a passion you indulged.
“Aye, yeah I forgot about that.” Sero rubs his neck and looks at the ground, deep in thought. At least for two minutes. After the two minutes he peeks at you with a mischievous grin. ”Wanna go to the dance with me?”
To your credit, you manage to stay opaque while your heart beats wildly in its cage. “Thats a dumb way of asking me out.” You mutter while sliding down from the stage, nearly cutting yourself on one of the loose planks.
“¡Cuidado!” He holds his arms out, ready to help you down. “I don't want my date to get hurt you know?”
“I can still dance in a cast.” You brush off his concern with a rare smile. Crushes aside, you appreciated his friendship and concern.
“The fuck is this, Romeo and Juliet? Get a room!” A classmate yells from the lighting stage, laughing when you flip them the bird.
Sero joins in the laughter, leaving soon after apologizing to your classmate. Said classmate meets you in front of the stage, arms crossed and looking back and forth between you and the now closed auditorium door.
“So are you guys dating now?”
“No, we're just friends.” You rub your neck, feeling the translucency crawl up your neck. But it couldn't wipe away the smile on your face.
You gravitate towards each other
Stretching your arms in front of you, you twist your body to the right and sigh as you feel a pop. You didn't particularly like gym class but it was nice to get a good stretch.
Looking around at the field in front of you, you wave at the occasional friendly face. You had friends in this class, which made it even more bearable.
"Hola princesa!"
Sero?
Turning around you grin at the familiar face. You run to the fence blocking you in, gripping it as you watch your friend run to you. He holds your hand through the fence, a normal occurance and a habit you've grown fond of.
"What are you doing here?" You question while turning your hand in order to squeeze his, heart fluttering when you see the small tinge of pink on his cheeks.
"Just here to say hi. My next class is in E block." He peers over your shoulder. You were about the same height, somewhere around 5'4, so you relished being able to see him eye to eye (mostly) while it lasted. He grew a bit over the break of your first year. "Playing anything?"
"Volleyball." You shiver. "I'm team captain, but I suck at it." Who would you pick? Would you actually be a good leader? You feel your voice leave you as you begin to rival that of an onion skin, growing more and more invisible.
A small pinch on the back of your hand pulls you back to reality. Sero waggles a finger, tisking at you. "Don't sweat it, you'll do great." He squeezes your hand before backing up, walking backwards as he heads to class. "Just breathe princesa!"
"Got it." You whisper to yourself, waving to him as you watch him enter the building across from you.
Sadly by the end of your second year, he had grown taller, leaving you craning your neck to look at him.
When he entered U.A. you still cheered him on
Graduating middle school was tough when you split off into different schools. You knew you would keep in contact, but it was so much harder to spend time together when you didnt attend the same schools. Still, with each video chat and phone call, with each text, you showered him with all your love and support. He wanted to be a hero, and you were happy to support him with that dream!
You: Saw you on the tv, you were amazing!
Sero: thanks 😙 still lost tho 😅😅😁😁
You: Yeaaah🤔 but you still looked really cool! Still, didn't realize you were strong enough to pull that Todoroki guy that way 🧐
Sero: Im just full of surprises princesa 😘
Sero mentioned you often to his friends
You were mentioned in at least one conversation a day, it didn't matter the context, you just sort of popped up. What could he say, he loved you! You were his go to for support and someone he truly valued. Plus you weren't crazy like his classmates.
“You keep talking about her but we've never actually seen her.” Mina leans forward on her palm as she sips at her milk tea. “You're not lying about her are you?” She wiggles her eyebrows, eliciting a laugh from Sero.
“Course she's real.”
Kirishima lays his head on the table of the booth they were at, looking at Sero with confusion. “Got proof? It’s not manly to lie to your friends bro.” Sure he believed in his friend, but after a year of just hearing about a special girl, it was hard to keep believing without some form of proof.
Sero holds up a finger as he pulls out his phone. Placing it flat on the table, he pushes the power button and watches his friends faces light up as they view his lock screen. It was a picture of you.
“Woah! Who's the hot chick?” Kaminari asks excitedly as he returns from the bathroom. “Is she single?”
Sero powers off his phone before smacking a piece of tape on his friend’s mouth, surprisingly feeling a twinge of anger at his words. You were his best friend! He had to protect you!
On the inside he knew his anger was from deeper feelings, but for now it was just from the fact that he may need to defend your innocence from his own schoolmate. You were so shy, he knew Kaminari’s flirting would be too much for you.
“Yeah, no cabrón. She's taken.”
You were there for his graduation
Needless to say, you were at his graduation! It was difficult to find him amidst the crowds of families wanting to take pictures of their children and siblings, and even some heroes wanting to say their goodbyes! You were absolutely bombarded and neigh invisible after overthinking the whole thing, so when you finally found him you were stunned into invisibility when his friends jumped you.
“Ohmygodohmygodit'sactuallyyouuuuuu!” Mina screams as she pulls you into her, squeezing the life out of you before you can get a breath out.
The boys were much gentler, but just as excited. Especially Kaminari.
“Hey it’s the hot girl- more like the gone girl, what's happening?” He questions as you disappear from sight, your voice completely AWOL.
Sero smacks his face as he curses his friends out. “Chingues! Give my girl some space hijos de perras!”
Mina gives you enough space to breathe but holds you much like one would a hostage. For a hero course student, you believed that she would have done very well as a villain.
“Nope! We get to meet this girl of yours, Tape Boy!” She looks down at you, squinting to try making out where your face would be, unknowingly glaring directly at you. “He talks about you almost nonstop yet you haven't visited us at all, how unfair is that?” Mina grins.
You come into focus, your voice a mere squeak as you brush some hair out of your face. “A little? I should've visited..” You introduce yourself to his cadre, your name stumbling off your lips.
“Hot and shy? What a cutie!” Kaminari hugs you from your available side where Mina wasn't holding you in a headlock.
A whip of tape smacks the blonde and sends him reeling back to Sero who holds him in a similar hold Mina was holding you.
Your friend ruffles Kaminari's hair in a somewhat violent manner, grinning at him with threatening eyes. "Go easy on her cabrón. She's not used to so many people doting on her."
They were doting on you? You tilt your head and look at Mina who was still examining you. "I don't think I deserve to be doted on, that's not what's going on here right?"
"Of course not, but you and I are gonna have some girl time while the boys get us a spot at a restaurant! You're gonna tell us all about how you and Tape Boy here met!" She chirps excitedly, pulling Bakugou in with her free arm as he tries escaping past her.
You feel a drop of sweat as you accept your fate, watching Bakugou attempt to wrangle his way to freedom. "Sure, sounds nice."
Sero made it rather big as a hero, see, he wasn't the strongest hero but he was very popular
He had always been popular, so it made sense to you when his ranking kept going up and up until he was in the high twenties. You knew he was good at what he did, being a source of smiles even in dark times, but it always brightened your day when you heard your coworkers mention him in passing.
“Have you heard about the hero Cellophane yet?”
“Yeah! I think I saw him around yesterday. He was eating soba with Shoto.”
You look backwards to see the faces of your junior coworkers. They were in a different department than you, but you enjoyed chatting with them every now and then. Mostly when it came to heroes as you had somewhat of an insiders look.
Had you forgotten to mention you were friends with Sero- Cellophane?
You debated whether to tell them over tea one day until you heard their next words.
“He’s kind of hot isn't he?”
... Maybe you would keep the secret to yourself.
As a hero he makes time to drop into your life, sometimes randomly
What else was to be said? Really?
A blur flashes by your face, causing you to yelp in shock, stepping back and nearly falling onto the unforgiving pavement. Luckily, said blur created a swing of tape just in time to catch you, pulling you forward and bringing you into his arms.
“Lo siento mi corazón! I didn't mean to make you fall.” Sero grins at you, his arm wrapped securely around your waist. He definitely meant to make you fall, you could see the mischief behind his eyes.
“As if Hanta.” You pinch him on the cheek, a smile coming to your face when he whines. “Look I’m happy to see you but I've got to get to work on time today, no funny business.”
“No funny business?” He repeats after you, rubbing his chin in thought. “Then I guess I’ll have to escort you to make sure you get to work on time.”
Your eyes widen as you feel his hold grow tighter and more secure as he holds you flush against him. Oh no. “Wait Sero-!”
And just like that, you were in the air, swinging from building to building with him propelling you both forward. You attempt to scream at him but your voice is lost along the way as you hear the clicking of cameras.
Oh god they were taking pictures.
“Niña don't worry! We’re almost there!”
Luckily for you, you were never caught on camera. So your quirk did have some uses.
The media was sure he had a partner
The photos really ended up getting him in hot water as every interview he did, the topic of romance was brought up. Fans would notice he would avoid the topic of love, but on his social media he would constantly mention a girl. No one knew who this girl was, but fans and news stations were determined to wring it out of him.
Once the red light of the on-air button was out, the reporter in front of Sero swiftly covers the mic pinned to her lapel and scoots to the edge of her seat. Sero watches in quiet amusement as the whole station becomes silent. Weird. But he knew why they grew quiet so fast. They wanted information, and if even the news anchor waiting for his time to come up stopped his boisterous laughter, it must've been important.
“Off the record. Do you have a secret sweetheart stashed away somewhere Cellophane?”
Oh. This again.
He stretches his arms in front of him as he runs through his normal excuses and dodges for this question. All still viable and working, but.. Maybe he could give a little hint. The media was on his ass about this after those photos were taken of him and his girl, so it was only right to clear the air right?
“Turn on the cameras. I’ll give this to you.”
You were crushed when he admitted he did have a sweetheart (of sorts) and even more so when the media suspected it to be the Stealth Hero: Invisible Girl
The media did end up getting a bit of info out of him and when you heard about this special girl your heart couldn't help but crack under the thought of him distancing himself from you to be with her. You treasured your friendship with him, romantic or not, you didn't want it to end. Because of this fear, you are the one who starts to close yourself off.
“Chiquita, what's wrong?” Sero follows you as you make your way to the kitchen, a bowl of chocolate coated pretzels in your arms. “Are you sick? I can stop by the pharmacy for you.”
“N-No, its okay. I'm not sick..” You back up when you see his arm stretched outward, flinching when the back of his hand meets your forehead.
He hums. “No fever.”
You push past him, abandoning the bowl of chocolatey treats on the counter. You felt yourself becoming frustrated. Not with him, but with yourself. His opinion meant the world to you- he was your best friend! And you were letting this relationship of his get to you. How petty could you be? He did nothing wrong. In fact, you should be happy for him, finally dating his high school sweetheart.
But the thought of him dating Invisible Girl- the irony of him dating an invisible girl- was just too much for your heart to take at the moment.
You had no way to take out this frustration. So it was reflected onto him.
“Cariño-”
“Please!” You slam your hands on the counter, voice fading in and out as you hide your face in the collar of your turtleneck. “Please.. Just go.”
The apartment was quiet, filled with only your ragged breathing as you hold in your rampant emotions. When he leaves with a silent goodbye, you're unsure if the breaking sound surrounding you is just in your head or if something truly reached into you and tore your heart to pieces.
He makes it very clear who that sweetheart is
Finally, he announces just who captured his heart. It was live on a jumbo screen, playing as you were out getting “groceries” for the nights dinner.
The hollow feeling in your chest wasn't easing, and it definitely wasn't made any better when you saw the Stealth Hero on the television next to her team. Though your calves were certainly doing better with how much speed walking you would do when you passed by convenience stores with tabloids lining their windows, photos of Sero and Invisible Girl on the front.
Work went by dreadfully slow, and lunch went by just as uneventfully as usual. You ignored the chatter of your coworkers, uninterested in what they had to say.
After the report came out, no one was talking about the top heroes anymore. They all were focused on the potential lovers and what other secret admiring the heroes had in their ranks. If other heroes were hiding their own affairs. If the popular Cellophane could hide his romance, maybe someone like Deku or Shoto could be too.
“We’re going out for drinks later, want to come with?” Your junior asks as she slings her purse strap over her shoulder. “Jin is paying~”
You respond with a polite smile. “No thanks. I’m going straight home.”
- - -
Going straight home was the plan, but in the end you had to make a quick trip to the nearest grocery store for dinner. Something quick, as you didn't have the energy to make something complicated.
Which meant you ended up buying only instant ramen.
It was on your way back, crossing a busy sector when the sound of your friend on the jumbo screen caught your attention.
“She's my corazón. Mi vida.”
You look up at the screen, stopping in your tracks.
Sero was blushing, a shy smile on his face, but his eyes were lit up with joy. You heart pulses rapidly in your chest, a blush creeping up your cheeks. You had never seen him so flustered, it was always the other way around.
“I’ve loved her since middle school. I never wanted to drag her into this, so I never confirmed her name- but its not Invisible Girl!” He amends quickly, looking at the reporter with a knowing look. He wags his finger, his infamous cocky smile replacing the twitterpated look from earlier.
“Sure, she has a similar quirk, which is how those photos came to be.” He leans back in his chair.
“You want to know her name right? I guess it wouldn't hurt to say. I’ve kept it hidden for so long, but here it is.”
And then he said it.
He said your name.
Looking directly at the screen, he smiles gently, eyes full of the warmth you've been craving ever since you were paired for that project years ago.
“Ella es mi tesoro. She is my treasure.”
Extra:
Racing home, you're not surprised when you find the lights on in your apartment. In fact, it only spurs you forward.
Yanking open the unlocked door, you drop your groceries and launch yourself into Sero’s arms as he held them open for a hug.
He was sweaty from rushing from the news station to your apartment, but neither of you were concerned about it as you laugh. You laugh at the tape still clinging to his clothes, you laugh at the ramen spilling out of your grocery bags, you laugh at your tears.
You laugh at how long it took for you both to finally admit how much you loved each other.
“Mi corazón.” He pulls back from the hug and cups your cheek, looking at you with love softened eyes. “I love you.”
Tears brim your eyes.
You speak in the clearest voice you've ever spoken in. Skin bright and flushed pink.
“I love you too.”

Californian Dream (Pt. 03 of 11)
Pairing: Billy Hargrove X Reader
Word count: 2.9 K
Summary: Being part of one of the richest families of California doesn't mean you're happy. Your life is boring, and you're surrounded by meaningless people and their meaningless talk. Even during Summer, with the break you have from college, there's nothing good going on. Nothing but the new pool guy, Billy, the most handsome man you ever saw. You were successfully avoiding him, not wanting to act like an idiot in front of the guy until Billy accepts to be your date for a fancy gala you're forced to attend. The night was going well, even better when he sneaked you out to go to the beach. But a gang of criminals breaks into the party, kidnapping the heirs to the wealthiest families, which includes you. So, for your safety, your parents want you to stay with Billy, living in his apartment until the criminals are caught. And that could take weeks, maybe even months.
Warnings: Light violence

Pandemonium
It takes a while to process what's going on. The explosion, the flames, the smoke. And the vans, the shooting. It feels like some kind of dream, something too far from reality to be understood. Yet, it's very real. You can tell by how cold you feel now, from your soaked dress glued on your legs, or maybe the wind, or perhaps what's happening not too far away. The chaos emerging from the place you were at only some minutes ago.
“We have to see what's–”
“Bad idea.” Billy grabs your arm, both of you getting down, the sand hurting your knees through the soft fabric of your dress. You barely feel his grip, eyes locked on the hotel, the smell of burned things reaching your nose. “Hey. We gotta get out of here. C'mon.” He starts pulling you with him, and you try to follow up the best you can given your state. The gunfires are loud, nonstop, persistent, and soon enough you can distinguish the yells too. Cries for help, probably.
“Billy, wait. My parents are there.” Resisting him, you try to make him stop, to head back there. “We have to–” Then, when you reach the sidewalk, you see it. Even from the distance, you can see people being dragged, violently pushed inside the back of the vans. You can't see their faces, but it's quite obvious now. “They're...”
“It's called kidnapping. Let's go.” You both set in motion again. Billy's grip on your arm slides down until he's holding your hand, but you don't mind. The only thing in your mind right now is that you don't want to be pushed into the back of any van. He let's go when you finally reach his car, thankfully parked far enough from the pandemonium, and he has no trouble maneuvering it and speeding away, a lot faster than on your way here.
Only when the noises are a distant echo you release a breath you didn't even know you were holding. Then, you start breathing fast, a hand on your heart as you close your eyes shut, trying to calm yourself down. That gotta be a mistake. A misunderstanding. You were supposed to be there. What would've happened if you and Billy were in there? Would you be shoved into those cars too?
“(Y/N).” He calls, and you give him a glance, your hair covering half of your sight. “You're hyperventilating. You have to slow down.”
“Ok, ok.” You mumble, trying to breathe in deeply and push the air out slowly. After doing that a few times, you feel tears in your eyes, wiping them away. “Where are you taking me?”
“My place.”
You were just about to complain, ask him why he isn't taking you home, where you should be to check if your parents are ok. But it makes sense. Your house may not be safe. “Alright.”
Billy doesn't slow down. He only stops in a small parking lot, beside a building. You don't know exactly where you are, so you just follow him through the sidewalk and into the building, upstairs for two or three floors until he's finally unlocking a door, gesturing for you to walk in. The first thing you notice is a TV, and you quickly make your way over it. “Can I put on the news channel?”
“Sure.”
Turning the TV on, you stop on the first news channel you find, and you immediately recognize the hotel. The reporter is by the fountain, and behind her, there is a lot of firemen, trying to put down the flames. But what gets your attention isn't the destruction, or whatever the woman is saying. Is the blood. You can see it staining the light gray rocks of the hotel's entrance. “Is that...”
“Sit down. C'mon.” Billy pulls you with him, forcing you to take a seat on his couch. Leaning forward, elbows on your knees, you bounce your leg, trying to bring some sense to what the reporter is saying.
“Thirteen of the heirs from the most important and wealthy families of California were taken on a violent, brutal action performed by masked men. According to witnesses, they came right after an explosion in the kitchens, surrounding the hotel and forcing everyone to lie down.” She makes a pause, looking at something behind the camera. “As they expertly picked up the kids one by one, some people were shot as they tried to keep them from taking their children.”
“What?” Gasping, you stand up abruptly, tears in your eyes again.
“The deceased are Mrs. Laurel Whayland, Mrs. Karen Garret, Miss Elena Williams, Mr. Harry Hench, and Miss Gisele Everline. Three more people were taken to the hospital but we still have no news about them.”
“Gisele is dead?” You mutter, tears rolling down. “I-I know those people, Billy. I know them.” Their faces start flashing in your mind, and despite you never being too fond of them, it still hurts.
“I'm sorry.” Billy stands up, and without thinking twice, you hug him, collapsing against his chest. With one hand around his midsection, you use the other to cover your mouth, trying to control the sobs shaking your body. You were supposed to be there. You would be taken, that's for sure. And maybe it would be your mother or father dead by now.
“If it weren't for you I'd be in there.” You cry, stepping away just enough to look at him. “I'd be who knows where now... Maybe even dead, like Gisele.” Gisele. You're superficial, redhead friend. She wasn't your confidant, she wasn't someone you could trust. But she was there, earlier today, playing volleyball on your pool, happy, smiling, breathing, living. Now she's gone.
“Calm down, alright?” Billy seems pretty shaken too, and that's when you notice it could have been him too.
“I-I'm sorry, Billy. I dragged you to that stupid party and if we waited just a little longer you would be in the middle of that mess because of me. I'm so sorry.” Speaking fast, you struggle not to sob again, your voice cracking. “If you died because of me I'd never forgive myself.”
“Alright, I need you to slow down, ok?” Again, Billy guides you to the couch, pulling you to seat down with him. “First of all, there was no way in hell you could've know something like that would happen.” He gestures at the TV, but your eyes are focused on him. “So don't blame yourself. I took you to the gala because I wanted to, you didn't drag me.”
“I–”
“It is now confirmed.” The reporter starts again, and both you and Billy stare at the screen. “The kidnappers left a tape, which is now with the police. Chances are they want a rescue, we just don't know how much yet.”
“This can't be happening.” You mutter, running a hand through your now messy hair. “I don't–”
The phone's loud ring makes you jump, a hand on your heart. “Let me answer that.” As he moves to answer the phone, you finally notice the living room and kitchen are an open space, and there's a small hall with two doors, one of them must be his bedroom. Billy speaks low, facing away from you, so you take the chance to pace around a little, wiping off more tears and trying to calm down, pushing the memory of the explosion and the shootings away.
You stop by the living door window, looking out, and you notice his apartment is only one block away from the beach, and you can see it from here, the moonlight reflecting on the water.
“(Y/N).” You mmediately turn around at the mention of your name. “It's your father. He wants to speak to you.”
Furrowing your eyebrows, you walk over to the kitchen space. “My father has your number?”
“Company policy,” Billy says, handing you over the phone.
“Dad?” You say, more tears now threatening to roll down. “Are you ok? Is mom ok?”
“We're both alright. We're alright.” He starts, and you can hear your mother's voice in the back. “I need you to listen to me, and listen carefully, understood?”
“Yeah.”
“We know what those lowlives want. They'll ask for a rescue so high even the Whayland will have trouble paying. And they won't stop. There's nothing on the media yet, but they said it, out loud, that they'll go after the rest of the heirs. That includes you and some other kids too.” With a hand on your forehead, you turn around, finding Billy standing by the table, arms crossed. “I don't think the media will let it out because it'll cause more panic, but we know and we won't let anything happen to you.”
“What should I do then?” You inquire, staring at Billy.
“You'll stay there.” Your father explains, and a low, humorless laugh escapes your lips. He can't possibly think it's ok for you to stay here.
“Dad, that's crazy. I can't just–” Looking away from Billy, you lower your voice, trying not to let him listen. “I can't just ask Billy to stay here dad, this is his place and I don't want to–”
“I've already spoken to Billy and he agreed. Don't worry, he'll be well paid for this... Kindness. But it shouldn't be long. I'll put my men in the investigation. It may be just for some weeks.”
“Let me talk to her.” Your mother says, and soon enough you hear her voice through the phone. But after making sure you're ok, she goes on about the usual stuff. How well you should behave, mostly now, that you'll be living with an employee. And how Billy will be now serving you since he'll be paid for this ‘job’ once this is over. So you just listen, rolling your eyes more times than you can count, muttering a ‘yes’ or a ‘fine’ now and then. It goes on for several minutes until your father takes over, telling you to take care of yourself and hanging up.
Unable to believe what just happened, you put the phone down, slowly walking over to the table, not sure what the look on Billy's eyes means. “I'm sorry for... For this.”
“Your father just hired me for another job, that's all.” There's something on his tone you don't understand, but you don't think he'd answer if you ask.
What you know for sure is that this is a mess, a situation that's complicated for everyone. And of course you're not comfortable with this, having Billy forced to endure you at his place for... Weeks. “Billy, look... I had a nice time today. I had more fun in a couple of hours with you than I have with my friends. And I know this sucks but maybe we can make it work.” Drumming your fingers on the table, you avoid looking at him. “It can be a job, formal, and I can behave just like my mother told me over the phone or it can be an extension of that walk on the beach.”
“Alright. He breathes out, and you feel a little relieved. “But this is nothing like your house, as you probably already noticed.”
Giving one more look around, you take in the simple kitchen, which is very well organized and clean. “I think your place is fine.” Billy scoffs, walking around the table. “What?”
“Come. There's only one bedroom and I guess it's yours for as long as you'll be staying here.”
“Absolutely not.” Exclaiming, you hesitate a little before following him through the small hall. “I can take the couch, it's no big deal.”
Billy opens the second door, gesturing for you to get inside. “It's small and plain, but I guess you'll manage to sleep just fine.” Billy's bedroom has faded blue walls, two windows, and a double bed set in between them. A wardrobe, a dresser, and a nightstand, on the right side of the bed. There are some posters on the wall, and you pace around, taking a look at them.
“It's cozy, I like it.” Turning on your heels to face him, you manage a small smile. “But I mean it. I'll take the couch. It's more than enough that you're being forced to have me in here.”
“What would your father say if he knew I was making his precious daughter sleep on the couch?”
“First of all, I don't think he has to know. And second, I don't care.” Shrugging your shoulders, you take a deep breath. “We can take turns then if you like.”
“Alright. Today is your turn, you need it more than me.”
“Yeah...” Reality kicks in, and you realize that for a moment you forgot why you're even here. “Can I take a shower? I mean, I'll have to sleep on this dress but...”
“I can give you some of my shirts if you don't mind.” When you nod, he moves to his dresser, searching for a while before handing you a dark blue shirt. “There's a bathroom there and another in the hall. But this one is bigger, so... You should use it.”
“Alright.” Hugging the shirt against your chest, you walk over to the bathroom.
“Use the green towel. Is clean and–”
“Thanks, Billy. I'll be alright.” Giving him one last glance, you walk in, locking the door behind your back.
When you're done, you stare in the mirror as you try to decide what to do with your dress. That's what you were thinking about for the thirty minutes you've been in the shower because you don't want to think about anything else. The explosion, the smoke, the people you know being held hostage... Gisele's death. The fact that it could've been you...
Taking a deep breath, you decide to throw the dress away, so you take it with you when you leave the bathroom, finding the bed made, with two pillows set on the edge. Leaving the dress folded on the dresser, you decide to lie down. You'll probably have nightmares, no doubt, but trying to stay awake won't last long since you're tired, very sleepy already. Tossing around to lie on your side, you hug the spare pillow.
You're almost falling asleep when the door is open, and so are your eyes, following Billy as he comes in. When his eyes meet yours he halts, seemingly surprised, a funny expression on his face that makes you chuckle. “What?” You ask in a low voice.
“Nothing, just... It's weird to have a girl on my bed.” He shrugs his shoulders, moving to look for something in his wardrobe.
“Uhm... I honestly doubt that.” It was Gisele who kept reminding you of Billy's behavior. Going so far as naming the girls he was seen with as if you knew any of them. As if she knew any of them. But the memory that made you so angry earlier, feels weird now. Empty, distant. “How many girls have already slept in this bed?”
“You're the first.” When he says that, you move to sit up straight, eyebrows furrowed. “I don't bring girls here.”
“Why?”
“Just an old rule of mine. There's no reason to let them in, they won't last.” Billy turns to face you, a hand holding blankets and a pillow as the other closes the wardrobe doors.
“And why don't they last?” The moment you ask, you regret it. “Nevermind. I'm just a little too curious.” Looking down at your hands, you blush. You're already invading his house, you can't invade his personal life too.
“Do you wanna sleep or do you wanna talk about my love life?” He scoffs, slowly making his way to the door. “Or the lack of it.”
“We're on the same boat then.” You giggle, running a hand through your hair and pushing back a yawn.
“You? That's something I don't believe, princess.”
Your head slows down at the pet name, and by the way Billy stops by the door, shifting his way from one leg to another, you can tell he's a bit surprised too. “Well... You know the options I have so...” Your mind quickly goes through the boys your mother and friends talk to you about. Some of them were kidnapped. But you push this thought back, not wanting to call in more bad dreams than you'll probably already have. “I'll die alone.”
“I'm sure your mother wants you to marry someone. Rich and powerful, of course.”
“Absolutely. So we can join our fortunes.” Kneeling on the bed, you give your voice a dramatic tone. “And make the family even richer and have very rich babies who will inherit more money than they could ever spend in a normal lifetime.” Rolling your eyes, you drop to the bed again, folding both legs beneath you. “Some shit like that.”
“But you always do what's expected of you. Your mother will end up pushing you into someone and you gave up arguing with her so...” Billy shrugs his shoulders, and you ask what this is. How exactly you got into this matter, and why is he making you see through the flaws of your existence. Damn, you're so sleepy. You're not thinking straight.
“I'd leave California before she forces me into it.” This certainty hits you like a brick, and you know you'll do it. You'll get your girly pink Cadillac, throw your luggage in the back, and drive away. “California never felt like home to me anyway.” You mutter, suddenly feeling empty. “I'll get some sleep now, Billy Hargrove. I'm done with opening my heart for today.” Not waiting for him to leave, you lie back down, pulling the blankets up. When you hear the door closing you take a deep breath, closing your eyes once again.
There's something about Billy. You've known some of your friends for many years, but you never spoke to them about the things you've spoken to Billy. He makes you feel different, like you're free to do and say the simple things you could never share with anyone else. Or maybe it's just the sleep taking over, you're not sure. But from all the people on Earth that you know, you're glad you got to do this with Billy. At least here you won't have to put on an act.

Hey if match ups are still open may I please have one for haikyuu? I'm a female, straight. I tend to be shy but I can be somewhat loud when I get to know someone. I've been playing the violin for about 7 years now. I love to cook and bake. I'm not really athetic, but I do love to go roller/ice skating.I'm also fairly shot,I'm 5'0. I love to read books. And I love animals, I plan to become a wildlife veterinarian. Sorry if I spelt anything wrong, and sorry if I'm bothering you.
hi bubs! sorry this took so long for me to get too, school has been brutal lately 😖 ty for requesting!
i match you up with akaashi!
you and akaashi give me this vibe that tells me you would get along perfectly together!
the first thing i wanted to say is that i headcanon that akaashi played violin at a point!! he dropped it once he got into volleyball, but he loves hearing you play
one of the most calming activities for him is sitting down and hearing you play violin after a tough day
sometimes he’ll take the violin and play himself just to get a feel of it again—if you overhear him playing and compliment him on it he’ll deny and say things like “you’re so much better” or “it’s been years, i’m terrible” but he’s just flustered <3
i can see you being in a sort of friends to lovers relationship. you were just friendly acquaintances who occasionally talked when you could before akaashi eventually asked you out (i’ll touch on this later)
when you become more comfortable with akaashi and you start being loud, akaashi doesn’t mind. i mean cmon he’s friends with bokuto he’s used to it he actually likes seeing you so loud and happy!
akaashi asks you to introduce him to roller/ice skating! he notices how you aren’t necessarily athletic and he wants you to be able to do something with him
he actually picks up on ice skating really well, so you two go on a lot of dates at the ice rink is that what it’s called
akaashi is kind of a tease, so he’ll make small jokes about your height. (he’s 5’11) these jokes aren’t incriminating, he just likes poking at you and seeing you get flustered
like sometimes he’ll deny leaning down to meet your kisses just to see the pout on your face (but he’ll kiss you right after)
although he does help you grab books at the library that are on the higher shelf
cuddling with him is a must. i feel like akaashi is secretly touch starved but less forward about it. on lazy days he’ll pull you into his lap and hold you close
a lot of your dates are spent reading. after he takes you out he likes sitting at home with you and cuddling with you while you read together. sometimes he’ll read aloud, other times you’ll read separately
rainy days are his favorite because of this, spending that quiet time reading together is so special for him
while you’re reading and cuddling he’ll lightly kiss the top of your head randomly, and when you question why he did it he just shakes his head and smiles softly
he definitely loves to discuss books with you—he never gets the chance with bokuto or anyone else on the team
akaashi doesn’t mind animals and actually loves hearing you talk about them,,, it’s just that he has a certain dislike of dogs because they get everywhere. he prefers cats 💀
basically you guys are just really comfortable around each other hehe
scenarios <3
how he fell in love?
okay so akaashi used to play violin, right? well you two went to the same place to practice your violin with a teacher and he’d always see you in the hallways
he loves your playing. there was something about it that just drew him in. he’d crouch by the door of your practice room and listen to you play
keep in mind he’s like 9 or 10 years old—he doesn’t realize he’s developing a crush on you
he doesn’t fall in love until he sees you again in his first year of highschool , and he falls fast and hard. he saw you laugh at one of your friends’ jokes and he was like “oh wow i’m in love with her”
how you two started dating?
bokuto put him up to it.
he was pining after you without doing anything for almost all of his first year, and then late february bokuto tells him to ask you out
he denies it at first, but bokuto gets under his skin and he decides to just tell you how he feels + ask you out
he waits until the day before spring break so you’d have more time to think it over
akaashi is a helpless romantic, so he writes you a lil love letter and sneaks it into your things when you leave the classroom
he stresses all throughout spring break
first day back, you two are in your second year, and you walk up to him with the letter in your hands
akaashi is fearing the worst, but you give a small smile and you hand him the letter
akaashi opens it to see a “yes, i’ll go out with you” written at the bottom
he ascends
now ur dating hehe
first date?
he takes you on a picnic <3
it’s literally the most romantic thing ever
the weather was perfect, save for the clouds on the horizon
you just quietly talked about things while sitting together under the sun,,, it was really coming and sweet
you guys decide to leave when the sky starts to get dark with the threat of rain, but you aren’t able to get home before it starts pouring
que the cliche running in the rain scene
he holds the picnic blanket over your head 🥺
when you get home and shower you sit together and read books
he’s not sure if ur comfy cuddling yet so he just sits close to you
you fall asleep on his shoulder <3
he presses a quick light kiss to ur temple and goes back to the book, not even realizing what he did until he looks over and sees a soft smile on your face
anyways y’all are whipped for each other it’s v cute
okay that’s all i got!! this was v cute, ty for requesting!
matchups are closed!

{You aren’t bothering me!! I’m sorry it’s taken me a while to write this! Matchups take me a little to write because they are so personalized! I hope you like them!}
Your BNHA Match: Iida Tenya!
You will definitely be a good influence on Tenya, and heappreciates how caring you are to everyone, no matter their personality. Hefinds it very endearing that you are motherly towards your friends, but beforehe really got to know you, he was a little jealous of your friends and wishedhe could interact in the same way with you. He was much too shy to tell youthat though, so instead, he talked to you and gradually you two became closefriends. The first time he had emotional problems around you, and you listenedto him, and tried your best to make him feel better, he fell in love with you.Soon, he couldn’t get you off his mind; every second of his day, he thoughtabout you: your glossy brown hair, your glimmering hazel eyes, and don’t evenget him started on your figure. One day, right before winter break, he told youhe liked you, but didn’t give you a chance to reply, and instead, ran away, leaving youstanding there blushing. Throughout the entire winter vacation, he was beatinghimself up about the whole incident, but when he got back to school, youquickly told him to go out with you on the weekend. Ever since then, he sticksaround you, and he became softer, and not as intense.
Walking home from school one day, the two of you decided totake a long detour through the park between the campus and your house. Thetrees ruffled in the wind, and you breathed in the cool air, relishing in thecalm, almost empty atmosphere. Looking up at the sky, you see the first starspeeking out from behind the few clouds that graced the atmosphere. You lookover at your boyfriend, and notice he’s nice and calm, his eyes zoning out intothe distance. You smile.
The two of you have been together for a while now, and ithas been a bumpy ride, but you were sure it could work out. Continuing to lookat him, you realize that he looks to be deep in thought. You grab his big handin your own, and he looks surprised. He looks over at you and blushes.
“W-what?” He says, his voice wavering slightly.
“Just wondering how you’re doing, is all.” You reply, squeezing his hand lightly, reassuring him that you were there. He stopswalking and pulls you over to the side, towards a bench resting partially inthe grass. You both sit close to each other, hands still locked between you.Taking another glance at him, you see that he looks like he has something hewants to say, because he’s sucking on his bottom lip. You giggle and ask himjust to tell you what’s on his mind. Taking a deep breath, he tells you alittle story about how he had overheard some of the guys in the class next tohis talking about you, his face turned red, seemingly recalling the words theyused. You blushed slightly, but asked him why he cared about that. He thenshared that he was concerned that he wasn’t the right one for you; that therelationship was rocky, and that he felt he wasn’t good enough for you. You satthere silently, contemplating what to do to tell him how you really felt. Thenan Idea popped in your head, so you took the risk.
Turning your body slightly towards him, you placed yourfingers on his chin, and turned it towards you. Leaning in, you brushed yourlips to his, and closed your eyes. It only took him a couple seconds to realizewhat was happening, and then he grabbed the back of your neck and pushed hislips into yours harder. After a couple of seconds, he pulled away, and restedhis forehead on yours, and spoke again.
“I guess I was just overthinking it, huh? I won’t doubt our relationshipanymore, I’ll appreciate what I have, while I have it.”
Your Haikyuu!! Match: Sawamura Daichi!
What better match for the motherly friend, than the fatherlyone? Daichi loves how gentle and soft you act. He couldn’t ask for a bettermatch. The way the two of you became instant friends surprised him, and hethought that it must have been a sign. He talked to you everyday at school, andhe even brought you up in conversations with Suga. One day, while sitting withSuga in the clubroom, Suga chuckled and told Daichi that maybe he should askyou out. Daichi immediately stood up and walked out the clubroom in search ofyou. He walked up to you and asked if he could talk with you. Of course youagreed and quietly hoped that what he wanted to say, was a confession. Walking leisurelyaround the school’s campus, the two of you talked about everyday occurrences:who skipped class, how your classes were going, stud like that. Honestly,Daichi was getting antsy, but he didn’t know what the best timing was, untilyou stopped and turned to him, and asked about why he really wanted to talkwith you. He was surprised, but he blushed, rubbed the back of his, and whilelooking away, confessed his feelings for you. You agreed with him, and the twoof you set up a time to go for your first date as you headed back to thevolleyball gym. After that, the two of you became the ‘goals’ couple. Everyoneenvies the cute mother-father relationship the two of you share, especiallythe volleyball boys, who you tend to visit more often to watch them play.
This game was unlike any of the games before them. Not onlywere the opponents almost pro-level, their serves were worse than Oikawa’s andUshijima’s combined! You sat in the front row of the bleachers, watching yourCrows as they played relentlessly. Daichi never stopped encouraging them, butthey looked like they were about dead. You squeezed your hands together, hopingthat they will come out of this with a win. Only when the last point was won,and the whistle blew to close the set, did you relax. Karasuno was victoriousonce again. You stood up quickly, and ran to meet your team at the gym doors.Running through the already cramped halls, you were concerned that you wouldmiss them, but then you spotted the black and orange of their uniforms, and yousqueezed through the crowd.
Breaking free of the final grouping, you plopped straightinto Daichi, who caught you in his arms, almost toppling over. You re-balancedyourself, and smiled brightly, offering a congratulation to the team. He smiledwidely at you, and the whole team thanked you. He then held your hand, andlooked at Suga, who just nodded and corralled the team towards the lockerrooms. Daichi pulled you down the hall, past the locker room, and out the maindoors.
“D-Daichi! You need to rest! Don’t you have another matchlater?” You asked, concerned about his health. He chuckled.
“Yeah, I do, but this is more important!” He stopped and turned a corner to a little outcropping in the building, where no one couldsee the two of you. He grabbed your other hand, and looked you in the eyes. Youblushed heavily at his gaze. He chuckled and blushed again.
“I told myself that I would do this if we won…that’s why Ireally pushed myself to win that game.’ His face reddened even more, you lookedat him confused. He pulled on your hands slightly, making you lean closer tohim, and he met you halfway, his slightly rough lips pushing against yours.Your eyes fluttered closed, as you relished in the feeling of his warm lipsagainst your own. He smiled into the kiss, and grabbed the back of your head torun his fingers through your hair. You grabbed his shoulders.
Pulling away, his face was all smiles and he grabbed yourhand and kissed it lightly, making you giggle. He then apologized that he hadto leave to relax for the next game, and you assured him that you would be herefor him after the game.
{Sorry for any weird symbols that show up in my writings, Tumblr likes to mess up some punctuations for me. Sorry!}

Okay! Since I'm having troubles deciding on the characters, I want you to choose a favorite character from one series to be your super protective older-brother-like best friend, and one character from the other series to be your mutual crush!
Thanks for participating! I felt like these two would havean interesting dynamic!
Walking into the park, your heart starts beating faster whenyou see your long-time crush Tanaka Ryuunosuke headed your way. He’s in townfor a tournament but has a break between games so asked you to come see him whenyou were off work. The two of you have been flirting over texts after meetingat a volleyball co-ed training camp and really hit it off.
Spying you ahead of him, Tanaka’s hands start sweating, hisneck getting tense. He likes you sooooo much and really wants to ask you outbut he’s been dragging his feet. Today Noya threatened that if he didn’t grow apair and finally confess he’d do it for him. Knowing the hyper active liberowould make good on his word, Tanaka requested an opportunity to see you.
“Hi, Tanaka-san!” you shout waving jovially. He smileslightly, blush coming up on his cheeks as he waves back. In little time, you’vemeet half way both wanting to hug the other but refraining from doing so due toyour nerves and not really knowing where the other person is.
“Hey _____-chan, thanks for meeting me. It’s too bad youcouldn’t make it to the game, you would have seen my awesome spikes!” he saysadding a bit of bravado to his voice to cover his nerves.
You laugh to cover yours, sighing, “I know! I tried really hardto get out of my shift but no one would cover for me!” You let out a littlepout and he thinks you’re the cutest girl he’s ever seen.
“No problem, we have more games tonight and tomorrow causewe’re going all the way to the top!”
You nod enthusiastically. Then, remembering why you’re here, you ask, “So, what did you want to talk to me about Tanaka-san?”
Tanaka’s eyes widened a bit, his throat becoming a bit drywhich he clears, repeatedly, trying to drum up the words he wants to say. Justas he’s about to open his mouth, you notice someone behind him and yell out, “Oh!Rinnosuke-kun!” Dodging around the bewildered volleyball player you launchyourself into Mitobe’s arms, his large frame easily catching your smaller one.
Inside Tanaka is dying a little, ok maybe a lot, because hewas sure you were single and you’dnever mentioned a boyfriend and he couldn’t conceive of you being so cruel asto lead him on and-
“Tanaka-san, this is one of my very best friends, MitobeRinnosuke. Actually, I guess it would be more accurate to call him my bigbrother!”
Big…brother…so this wasthe guy. You’d mentioned your “brother” before but until now had never said hisname. He sizes up the tall male, not entirely pleased with the expression onhis face and while normally he’d be asking if he has a problem, it’s quite clearthat would be a rhetorical question.
Mitobe raises his eyebrows at your mention of Tanaka’s nameprompting you to blush furiously and hiss out, “Oh shut up!”
Tanaka is confused; did the dude even say anything? If so,it must have been pretty low.
Another beat of silence passes but then your attention isonce again diverted when your name is called by a group of girls over by ashop. Squealing out a hello, you whip your head to the boys, “Sorry guys, Ineed to go chat with them for just a minute. But that will give you time tobecome acquainted! Be right back!” Before either of them can protest you’rerunning off to your friends.
Turning back to look at Mitobe, Tanaka crosses his arms. “So,you’re _____-chan’s “brother”. She talks about you a lot, seems you two arepretty close.”
Mitobe nods, his face remaining neutral, eyes focused onTanaka. Despite his cocky attitude, Tanaka does, deep down, care about what peoplethink of him. And it’s pretty clear that this guy means a lot to you, whichmeans he should probably put in some more effort to get to know him. After all,if he wants to date you, doesn’t “family” usually come along in the mix?
“Um, _____-chan tells me you play basketball. Uh, that’s…cool…Iguess,” Tanaka says. Again, Mitobe just nods. Tanaka can feel himself gettingirritated with the guy. Is this some kind of a game? Pushing his buttons so hecan get him to explode or make a fool of himself in front of you? How is he supposedto get to know the guy if he won’t talk?
“Oi,” he says a bit gruffer, “aren’t you gonna say anything?”
Mitobe shrugs, turning his head momentarily to look at youthen back at Tanaka. He repeats the motion, one eyebrow inclining slightly.
Sighing, Tanaka somehowgets what he’s “saying”. “So, you figured out that I like her, huh?”
Mitobe nods, eyes narrowing a bit.
“And she’s really important to you, obviously,” Tanaka adds.
Another nod, arms crossing in front of his chest.
Scratching the back of his head, a sudden thought occurs toTanaka. “Well, seeing as you’re pretty much the only “family” _____-chan has, Isuppose this is appropriate.” He sees Mitobe’s eyes soften, a slight curvedownward of his lips as he recalls just how you’ve become an honorary member ofhis family. Tanaka goes on, “Yeah, well, seeing as that’s the case, I guess….um…I,”he sighs, closing his eyes before opening them again and blurting out, “Could Iget your permission to date her?”
Before Mitobe can react, a sudden shout from you draws both boys’attention away from one another. You’re standing by yourself now, your friendsapparently having left, but there’s a guy messing with you, not letting youleave.
Tanaka is there in a flash, yanking him back from you andinjecting himself between him and you. “Just what the hell do you think you’redoing?” he shouts, fists clenched.
“Scram brat, this doesn’t concern you!” the bully saysmoving to shove Tanaka out of the way. He dodges, grabbing the guy by the wristand twisting his arm around making him grunt in pain.
“Now,” he says gruffly, “get the hell out of here before I reallymess you up.”
He pushes him forward, making him stumble. The guy whirlsaround, about to try again, when Mitobe arrives standing just behind Tanaka. Atthe sight of the imposingly tall basketball player, the offender leaves, cursing under his breath.
Tanaka turns to you. “Are you ok?” he asks. He’s barely finishedthe question before you’ve flung yourself into his chest, tears streaming downyour cheeks. Awkwardly, Tanaka places his hands on your back, while yours wrapmore fully around his waist. He gulps, patting your head, unsure exactly whatto say but figuring he can help by just holding you.
His eyes shift to Mitobe who is standing very still watchingthe two of you. Slowly, a soft smile pulls up his lips, his eyes flicking from Tanakato you then back again before he lifts his hand and shows a thumbs up.
Tanaka grins, saying lowly, “Thanks man.”
You sniff, pulling back to look up at your rescuer. “Did…didyou say something Tanaka-san?”
“What? Eh, no. Hey, I never did get a chance to talk to you,you know?” he says smiling into your tear stained face. He pulls you along, unwilling to ask his question in front of anybody else, brother or not.
As Mitobe watches you go, Koga arrives, standing next tohim.
“So that’s the guy?” he asks and Mitobe nods.
“Do we like him?” Mitobe nods again.
“Good, come on, the captain’s waiting,” he concludes, turningon his heel headed back to the park court Seirin is practicing on. With onelast glance at you and your new boyfriend (he’s sure he’s right judging by howyou’re hugging him) Mitobe turns to follow his friend, glad he won’t have toworry about you as long as Tanaka is around.

MATCHUP! I'm a 4'11 Mexican Aries girl. I'm kinda chubby with dark body hair, usually have my hair up in a ponytail and a recognizable beauty mark on the right side of my upper lip close to the the smile line. I'm very much a graphic t shirt and jeans person with a day or two with a flowy shirt and tights. I'm in band playing a Bb clarinet and want to learn saxophone, game a lot (Overwatch and Persona 5 mostly right now), and trying to get better in art. What makes me feel loved (1/2 ponytail)
(2/2 ponytail)is verbal and physical love. I’ve never really had a relationship before so Idon’t really know how it is to love someone but I had to guess I would listenvery intently and bake stuff and hug and cuddle them a lot. In general, I’mlike a soft shell that can easily break and release a crazy more extrovertedside. I’m proud of mylove for learning?? I want know more which I guess makesme more open minded. I’m also not very good at thinking about good things aboutmyself. Love2U!❤❤❤
How it happened:
It was a Friday morning and you were in the music room alone. You look throughall your music folders and the school’s clarinet folders to see what music youshould play. Beethoven? Mozart? Bach? Tchaikovsky? After ten minutes ofrummaging, you finally chosen a piece. It was (insert your own piece). Youplaced the music sheets on the black stand, took out your clarinet and assembleit parts. Before you even began playing, you started a warm up. Three minutesof warmup, you prep yourself by inhaling and exhaling, to calm your nerves.Once you placed your mouth to the mouthpiece and position your hands for thefirst note, you were startled by a person.
“Hello?” a male called.
You turned around to see an unruly orange hair boy, holdingsomething. “Do you need something?”
“I was looking fora friend. He said he’ll be here in this room.” He gave you an awkward smile ashe walks towards you. You shift your eyes to your music and said, “No one ishere, except me.”
“Oh…” As soon as he turns back, you position your fingersagain. “I guess, I’ll wait by the door. If you don’t mind me sitting there.” Hegrabs a nearby stool and sat by the door to look out for his friend. You paidno attention to him and continue with your thing. Although, you were quitenervous because for one thing this is your solo piece that you didn’t wantanyone to hear and two, you don’t want distractions.
As you play, the orange hair boy couldn’t help but to glancetime to time to see you play. Your music was lovely to his ears. It was almostas if he was capture by your playing. He never heard such music. Because he wascurious and his friend was taking mighty long, he went to you again.
“What piece are you playing?” he asks, truly curious. Youanswer him, “(insert the title)”
“It’s really lovely.” He gave in a cheesy smile. “My name isShoyo Hinata. I hope we can be friends.” Shoyo said.
“The name (First Name) (last name).”
You continue to play your piece and Shoyo sat next to you,not too close, but enough to hear you loud and clear. Once you were finish, he applaudsand your face showed a bit of a blush. “Thanks.”
Then the friend came, it a student who was in your musicclass, that played the piano. Shoyo and that friend of his exchanged papers, what seems like a homework assignment. The friend left and the first-class bellrings.
“Well, I hope I can see you again and hear your music. Thanks for having me~” he waves and ran to his class.
“Bye…” you said quietly.
Ever since that Friday morning, Shoyo would peek into themusic room every single day to see if you were practicing your clarinet. Whenhe doesn’t see you, he makes an upset face. When he does see you, he wouldallow himself to company you in your music, even when you didn’t want him tobe. Sometimes he would hum to your music after listening to it numerous time.He would always say positive words whenever you get frustrated because youmessed up one note or was out of tune.
A month and a week passed and Shoyo have been doing the samecycle. Coming in, sit by you to listen and say encouraging words. But there wasthing he hasn’t told you, he has a crush on you! All the chances he visits youwhen you’re practicing, he couldn’t help but to be fluster to be next to youand hear you play your magnificent piece.
Another week passed and Shoyo smacked himself because he realizesthat he never asked you questions about your likes, hobbies, anything outsideof your music life. Even consulting with his volleyball team, they said to “goafter you.” On that upcoming Friday, he saw you setting up for your practice. Hestarts the conversation with a “hey.” You gave him a smile back and said, “hey”back. Shoyo ruffles his hair a little bit before asking you, “what else do youdo outside of your music life?” You answered him. There, you decided to pauseyour music practicing for a bit and converse with Shoyo. For whole earlymorning, you two had getting to know each other, even exchanged numbers.
You invited Shoyo to the spring Concert and he gladlyaccepted. (It was a Saturday). He even invites you to his volleyball practice. Atthe end of the school year, Shoyo had asked you if you wanted to be hisgirlfriend. You smiled at him and said yes. But, he apologizes very quicklyafter your “yes.” that he must attend to his volleyball summer camp. But hepromises you to send you a lot of text and hearts to you whenever he’s free.
After being in arelationship for a long time (3 months+):
Shoyo couldn’t believe how many graphic t-shirts you owned. And because of that, he likes to get those matching graphic t-shirts (thecouple t-shirts). He even gave you his favorite graphic t-shirt that someoneelse recommended to him. When you wear his shirt, he dies inside and justshout, “YOU’RE THE MOST CUTEST PERSON ON THIS PLANET!”
For your desire to learn something new, he loves it! It’salmost like a competition to him. When someone learns something new, it is histurn to learn something new because he can’t be falling behind. He always wantsto be equal or above. Never below. That’s not his position. However, he doesn’ttell you that “LEARNING SOMETHING NEW” is a competition. Well…because, reasoning.Let me tell you, learning is a great thing. When you told him you never datedbefore, neither have him. You two are great learning partners. So, whenever you’remad or get upset with him, he feels upset but tells you that “we’re both teachingand learning from each other.” And he’s always the first one to apologizefirst. (:
Furthermore, Shoyo and his little sister Natsuloooooovveeeesssss you for your baking skills, hugs and cuddles. Natsu evenhelp you bake because she also has the desire to learn. You bring joy to thislittle family of orange hairs. Whenever you give Natsu a hug, she would tellyou how much your hugs mean a lot. It makes her problems go away and that, youfill in the spot of a mother hug. When their mommy isn’t home, that is. Becauseyou gained trust and love to little Natsu, Shoyo becomes more attach to you.
The one thing that Shoyo tell you is how loud you can be. Lol.He never knew your “extroverted” personality. He’s pretty much glad he met you. There’s so much about you that every time he sees you he gets excited. He neverwants to lose you.
