----------x---------
"A moment of your time, Sakurai?"
Tetsuya stiffens, his customary place at Gins' side interrupted for a moment as he stops in place and the other man keeps going for a moment, as they both turn to look at the source of the voice. Aizen had never spoken directly to him- most of the time he felt invisible to the ex-captain, and that was widely how he preferred it. There was something unsettling about him- always had been, as far as Tetsuya was concerned. He would guess recent events would confirm his anxiety about him, but... somehow, it went even deeper than that, didn't it? It was hard to pinpoint.   "Are you planning on bullying My Little Tetsuya?" Gin speaks up first, and the playful and carefree tone of his voice doesn't match the possessive curl of his large hand around the brunettes' shoulder, the harsh squeeze that is nothing more than a channel for sudden anxiety.
"Of course not, Gin. I wouldn't dare harm a single hair on your precious lieutenant. I merely wish to speak to him." The word lieutenant is almost a slur, and the air of command behind his statement says that saying so was only as a formality, to be kind; he could kill Tetsuya if he wanted and there was nothing Gin could do about it. Tetsuya doubts both things-- so why is he still so afraid to be in a room by himself with him? "Alone."
The hand releases itself from his shoulder, albeit reluctantly, before the click of sandals foretells Gins' departure.
"I-Is there, ah, s-something I can- can d-do for you, Lord Aizen?" The title burns on his tongue, a necessary evil.
"Of course not." The casual way he says it slices through Tetsuya, but he does his best to not let it show on his face. "Which raises the question of why you came here to begin with, doesn't it?"
"W-with all d-due- due respect....I th-think that should b-be obvious."
"Make no mistake, I know exactly why it is that you're here. It's cute, isn't it? A story like yours- a lieutenant struck with love for his captain, a love that would draw him to betray everything he's ever known. If this were a story, were fiction, well. I'm sure you'd sell quite a lot of copies, wouldn't you? But in reality...." Aizen levels him with a gaze that makes him feel small and insecure-- smaller even than he usually does. "Do you really think that love is returned?"
Tetsuya bites his tongue so hard he tastes blood; it distracts him from the pain that shatters like something fragile in his chest. "Of- Of c-course I do."
"And why is that? Because he told you so? Gin is a very convincing actor, when he chooses to be." Aizens' voice is filled with pity Tetsuya doesn't want, and he wishes he could cover his ears and scream until his throat bleeds to block out his words. As it is, his body is frozen. "Are you so naive that you don't realize? We've all been watching him play with you, with your emotions, for decades now. It's been a bit sad, honestly. You're nothing more than a toy to him, little Tetsuya. In reality, the love story doesn't exist. The man you sold your soul to-"
"Stop. Y-You don't- You don't kn-know- don't know wh-what you're- what you're t-talking about." He didn't mean to cut him off, but somehow Aizen doesn't seem to mind; he seems too fixated on the tears filling his magenta eyes, like they're the best sight hes seen all day.
"Don't I? You wouldn't be so upset if you didn't know what I was saying was true, would you? Face it; you aren't worth his time as anything more than a fun distraction. He let you follow him here in the same way as you would take a game on a long trip, and he would let you die if only to see the look on your face as it happens."
He didn't want to believe it, the vile words that spilled from this vile man. He knew they weren't true, didn't he? So why couldn't he stop how they invaded his thoughts, how they chiseled away at his burgeoning self esteem- was he being played with, even now? Was he good enough to stand by Gins' side as his equal, or.. or was he just a plaything, destined to be broken and thrown away? Was that all he had ever been? Tears stream hot down his cheeks and his disgusting sobs echo off the walls, nausea gathering in his stomach when a hand lands on his shoulder, giving a comforting squeeze that was meant to be anything but, and a strong hand jerks up his chin in a bruising grip.
Soulless brown eyes stared into his own, like a void Tetsuya didn't want to look directly into for fear it would devour him.
"You're free to go, Sakurai. Do try to stop crying before you see your beloved again. You wouldn't want him to see you looking quite so pathetic, would you?" He's laughing at him, mocking him, and in the next moment he's let go, stepped back.
Tetsuyas' body unlocks, finally, blissfully-
It's all he can do to run.
----------x-----------
It doesn't take long for Gin to find Tetsuya; he's so in tune with him, he could probably find him anywhere in a matter of moments. That doesn't mean he particularly likes what he finds-- Tetsuya is no more than a puddle, shaking and sobbing against the wall, knees pulled in tight against his chest. Before he's aware of it, he's crouched down in front of him, hands landing on Tetsuyas' own where they're covering his face.
"W-wait- D-Don't l-l-look at me p-please I-" Gin ignores his protests, prying his small hands away from his face. The sight of him, magenta eyes wide and bloodshot, and how he shakes like a windblown leaf underneath his touch-- it shifts something inside him, something that aches like a fracture in the depths of his core. It's something he's never felt before; something he doesn't want to feel again. "I- I- I- I- I'm s-sorry- so s-s-sorry, I-"
"Calm down, Tetsuya." The words come out more pointed than he means for them to, and the way Tetsuya flinches away from them is another deep, aching, fracture. Being comforting has never exactly been his strong suit; he's never needed it to be, before now. He's suddenly self conscious about the naturally cold temperature of his hands when they release Tetsuyas' to cradle his face in them, but Tetsuya doesn't seem to mind at all- if anything, he leans into his odd touch like he craves it. Another surprise- Tetsuya is full of them, isn't he? "What did he say to you?"
The question inspires a fresh wave of tears to stream down his cheeks, already streaked with them. "N-nothing, I- D-don't w-worry about-"
"Tetsuya." An admonishment, a comfort-- fraught with emotion. The smaller man is looking at him now, staring at him like he's searching for something in his expression.
"T-tell- tell me the t-truth. Am I- Am I-" He chokes on the sob that wraps around the words, whole body shuddering, and one of Gins' hands detaches from his face, moving up to card long fingers through soft, brunette strands. "Am I- g-good enough? You really- r-really l-" Another sob, harsh and sharp.
"Is that what he told you? That I didn't-" Gin cuts himself off, unable to finish the sentence himself. Tetsuya doesn't need to finish his sentence for Gin to know what it is he's trying to say next, for it to make rage flow through him in an equal amount as that strange aching pain. It's better that way, for him to just know- he didn't know if he could handle hearing Tetsuya ask in earnest if he really loved him. Shouldn't he know that? It's funny, how much he had changed as of late. Hadn't he always prided himself on being unreadable? Hadn't he always thought of it as a relief that Tetsuya didn't know exactly how big a space he inhabited in his day to day life? Hadn't he always thought of himself as a man without feelings, a snake whose only desire was to consume? It was hard to pinpoint when all of that had changed; he just knew it had. "Dear, sweet, Tetsuya. Look at me."
His fingers press up on his jawline, tilting his face further towards him, and he notices an array of faint purple fingerprint-shaped bruises that hadn't been there before. Odds are, Tetsuya didn't even notice them himself, wouldn't until he looked at them- it was like physical pain hardly existed to him. It didn't make the fresh wave of rage that surged through Gin any more palatable. He covers it, represses it, and leans in to press gentle kiss after gentle kiss to the marks, to the corner of his ex-lieutenants mouth, until he can capture his lips. A hand comes up, tentatively, curling around the back of his neck like it didn't quite know if it was allowed to be where it landed, and when Gin smiles into their kiss, it winds into the hair there like a lifeline.
"I adore you, Tetsuya. You have to believe me. Don't you believe me?" The words are practically stolen from him, from right out of his chest, a whisper against the smaller mans mouth that draws a low gasp and an impulsive, jerky nod out of him, that has his legs parting in invitation. How could he help himself if he broke them apart, if he scooped up his little partner into his arms, just to see the flush break out over his face in response? "Maybe we just have to go somewhere private so I can keep showing you?"
"I- I would- Ah- I w-would l-l-like th-that.."Tetsuyas' flush only darkens, his stammer worsening adorably instead of sadly, his face burying itself into Gins' neck. He'd never get tired of his reactions to him, of his shyness, of all the little things that made him special-- not if they did this for the next hundred years, the next thousand.
Although the mood had lightened considerably, and would probably continue to do so- well, Gin had already made up his mind, even as he looked for an empty room that he could ravage the smaller soul reaper in.
Sousuke Aizen would regret the day he hurt His Tetsuya.
