lets give it up for pokemon public transit! going off the zones idea what if you unlock new zones by improving or helping out the transit system
the way id thought for it to happen was through this chain of events
- by helping out the baker lady, you can now bake poffins (this is one of the very first quests)
- poffins can be used as pokemon bait, but importantly they can also be used to invigorate and wake up sleeping snorlax
- snorlax have started to block the walkways in streets because the dumpsters behind restuarants attract them, so you cant walk by until you wake them up
- after waking them and helping them better integrate into the city as mascots for the different dining locations (basically a fat snorlax outside is the sign the food you serve is good, so stores begin competing as to whos snorlax is the best fed/cutest. it also prevents any food waste from table scraps!) you can then travel to the areas formerly blocked off by snorlax
- one of the formerly blocked areas was the grassy hills/powerplant zone, which is in need of repairs after a staraptor flew into one of the windmills after being disoriented by the glare of skyscrapers
- by repairing the power plant, the underground metro is opened up again, and you're rewarded with a forever train pass by the powerplant worker as thanks
- this unlocks fast travel throughout the city, and you can revisit any area youve formerly been to. the trainer character will refuse to fast travel to areas theyve never visited on foot before though, in similar fashion to the 'theres a time and place for everything' dialogue prompted by trying to use a key item innapropriately. this is because the pc is only 10 and not comfortable riding the train alone to new areas until theyve met someone there
- (suggested by my boyfriend) the loading screen in between areas could be the inside of a metro car, the people inside the car would gradually be the NPCs you help along the way. so it starts with a mostly empty car, or a car full of blank npcs, but by the end of the game the car would be full of almost entirely familiar faces

On Wednesday, New York governor Kathy Hochul shocked the state and the country when she announced she would indefinitely shelve New York City’s long-in-development congestion pricing scheme. The policy, in the works since 2007 and set to begin in just three weeks, was designed to relieve car traffic, curb road deaths, and send a billion dollars in annual funding to the city’s transit system by charging drivers up to $15 a day to enter the busiest parts of Manhattan, with rates highest at “peak hours.” (Truck drivers and some bus drivers could have paid more than $36 daily.) At heart, the idea is straightforward, if controversial: Make people pay for the roads they use.
But congestion pricing was also set to become one of the most ambitious American climate projects, maybe ever. It was meant to coax people out of their gas-guzzling vehicles, which are alone responsible for some 22 percent of US greenhouse gas emissions, and onto subways, buses, bicycles, and their feet. Policymakers, researchers, and environment nerds the world over have concluded that, even if the transition to electric vehicles were to happen at lightning speed, avoiding the worst of climate change is going to require fewer cars overall.
Now, the movement has seen a serious setback, in a country where decades of car-centric planning decisions mean many can only imagine getting around in one very specific way. Just a few years ago, cities from Los Angeles to San Francisco to Chicago began to study what pricing roads might look like. “Cities were watching to see what would happen in New York,” says Sarah Kaufman, who directs the NYU Rudin Center for Transportation. “Now they can call it a ‘failure’ because it didn't go through.”
On Wednesday, Hochul said her about-face had to do with concerns about the city’s post-pandemic recovery. The congestion pricing plan faced lawsuits from New Jersey, where commuters argue they would face unfair financial burdens. Cameras and gantries, acquired and positioned to charge drivers while entering the zone, have already been installed in Manhattan, to the tune of some $500 million.
Kaufman, who says she was “flabbergasted” by Governor Hochul’s sudden announcement, says she is not sure where the policy goes from here. “If we can’t make courageous, and potentially less popular, moves in a city that has transit readily accessible, then I’m wondering where this can happen,” she says.
Other global cities have seen success with congestion schemes. London’s program, implemented in 2003, is still controversial among residents, but the government reports it has cut traffic in the targeted zone by a third. One 2020 study suggests the program has reduced pollutants, though exemptions for diesel buses have blunted its emissions effects. Stockholm’s program, launched in 2006, upped the city’s transit ridership, reduced the number of total miles locals traveled by car, and decreased emissions between 10 and 14 percent.
But in New York, the future of the program is unclear, and local politicians are currently scrambling to figure out how to cover the transit budget hole that would result from a last-minute nixing of the fee scheme. The city’s transit system is huge and sprawling: Five million people ride the Metropolitan Transportation Authority’s buses and subways, almost double the number that fly every day in the US.
In New York, drivers entering the zone below Manhattan’s 60th Street would have been charged peak pricing of $15, but would have only faced the charge once a day. They would have paid $3.75 for off-peak hours. Taxi and ride-hail trips in the zone would have seen extra fees. After years of controversy and public debate, the state had carved out some congestion charge exemptions: some vehicles carrying people with disabilities would not have been charged, lower-income residents of the zone would have received a tax credit for their tolls; and low-income drivers would have been eligible for a 50 percent discount.

Convenient Multi-Modal Travel Across Houston's Expansive Region: How ConnectSmart Revolutionizes the Industry
Houston's transportation needs to expand as well. Houston, known for its expansive layout and car-centric culture, has many transit choices that, when combined, provide residents and visitors great convenience and flexibility. ConnectSmart, a new, tech-driven travel platform, is changing how Houstonians switch transit modes, providing a seamless experience beyond just switching modes. This platform streamlines multimodal travel, making switching between cars, buses, trains, and bicycles painless.
In Houston's sprawling urban landscape, multimodal connectivity is needed.
Houston's metropolitan area is approximately 9,500 square miles, and many inhabitants drive alone. Due to the area's size and intricate transit arrangements, travelers face severe traffic, limited parking, and growing commute costs. Houston has strong public transit choices, including METRO's bus and train services, but the problem is building a system that efficiently connects them for long-distance commuters, tourists, and city visitors.
To address these challenges, smart connections employ multimodal connectivity, merging cars, buses, trains, bicycles, and ride-sharing services into one smooth journey. Towers may now easily plan and execute complex itineraries on a single mobile platform, allowing them to navigate the city without cars.
ConnectSmart offers key features and benefits.
ConnectSmart aims to improve Houstonians' connections, travel, and movement by simplifying multimodal travel with a full array of services. It provides real-time statistics, live maps, and simple tools for planning trips, paying fines, and receiving traffic alerts and delays. Each feature makes it easier for residents and visitors to switch between vehicles, buses, trains, and even cycling or walking.
1. Integrated Navigation and Trip Planning
ConnectSmart's most innovative feature is its integrated trip planner, which integrates the city's numerous transit options. Travelers can plan excursions by entering a destination and choosing private cars, public transit, or shared bikes. The platform then finds the shortest or cheapest routes and indicates when to switch modes. ConnectSmart simplifies commuters' transport schedule searches and app juggling with a single, user-friendly interface.
2. Real-Time Transit Information to Reduce Wait Times
Timing transportation alternatives to avoid waiting between connections is a major difficulty in multimodal travel. ConnectSmart tracks its whole network in real-time, letting users check transport timetables, forecast delays, and change routes. A commuter switching from METRO to the bus can receive information about potential delays and make changes without restarting their travel planning.
3. Dynamic Traffic and Route Optimization
ConnectSmart considers Houston's bustling road traffic and public transit. Driving and public transport users benefit from the app's dynamic traffic updates and congestion information, which suggest the best routes to park-and-ride facilities or train stations. The platform allows commuters to avoid crowded roads and save time and stress by favoring routes that avoid traffic.
4. Cross-Mode Payment Integration
ConnectSmart's payment integration makes paying for transit services on one platform easy. ConnectSmart simplifies multimodal travel finances by combining payment options across the app, eliminating the need for tickets and fare cards. This unified payment system lets travelers swiftly switch between cars, trains, and buses without searching for cash.
How ConnectSmart Promotes Green Travel
ConnectSmart prioritizes convenience but also promotes sustainable travel. Houston has long struggled with air pollution and carbon emissions due to car use. ConnectSmart supports sustainable urban transportation by encouraging residents to use public transit, carpool, and cycle instead of driving.
ConnectSmart decreases single-occupancy vehicle journeys and emissions by making multimodal travel easier. ConnectSmart's route planning tools and real-time updates allow commuters to combine train and bus routes or bike when possible, reducing car use and cleaning the city. ConnectSmart also makes eco-friendly choices easy by integrating bike-share programs and boosting last-mile connectivity.
The Economic and Social Impact of Multimodal Systems
ConnectSmart impacts Houston's economy and social access beyond its environmental benefits. ConnectSmart keeps transportation affordable for more people. Shared modes like ride-sharing and bike-sharing make city commuting cheaper for all income levels. ConnectSmart also improves social mobility and economic prospects for regional populations by making healthcare, education, and job centers easily accessible.
The Future of Houston Travel with ConnectSmart
Houston's rapid expansion needs flexible transit alternatives. ConnectSmart plans to add personalization and transport collaborations as it innovates. With predictive analytics, the app may eventually let users plan based on historical data, peak hours, transit capacity, and demand surges. These changes will make Houston's diverse and expansive metropolis easier to navigate.
ConnectSmart also plans to serve surrounding areas, connecting regional transit networks and cities. It may connect with Dallas, Austin, or San Antonio services to create a regional multimodal platform for more travel options. Through constant updates and user-centric features, ConnectSmart is ready to change urban travel in Houston and set a multimodal transportation paradigm for other cities.
Conclusion: A New Multimodal Travel Era in Houston
Houston is pioneering integrated, user-friendly, and sustainable multimodal travel systems with ConnectSmart. The platform connects transit options, saving time and money and making city travel easier. ConnectSmart portrays Houston as a forward-thinking city ready to fulfill its inhabitants' changing demands by allowing residents and visitors to move without single-mode dependency. ConnectSmart's solutions increase mobility and make Houston cleaner, more accessible, and economically vibrant, inspiring other cities.

Moving to Australia? Things to consider before you go
June 28, 2024
Are you thinking about moving to Australia?
In 2023, 13,400 New Zealanders moved to Australia so you are not alone. In this article we will tell you what you need to do (and think about) before you decide to pack up the house and move to Australia.
Quick Links
What are your Visa requirements
How much money will you need to move
What are your healthcare options in Australia
What Australia laws will you need to comply with
What are your Visa requirements when moving to Australia?
As a New Zealand citizen, you can enter Australia and apply for a visa upon arrival under the Trans-Tasman Travel Arrangement. However, if you plan to stay long-term or work, you might need a different visa. New Zealanders don’t always have the same rights as Australians.
New Zealand and Australia are close friends and allies. A unique arrangement allows freedom of movement between the two countries – the Trans-Tasman Travel Arrangement.
Immigration status can affect rights
It’s also important that New Zealanders choosing to live in Australia know their immigration status, for example, if they are an Australian permanent resident, citizen, or on a visa.
This can affect your rights. New Zealanders may not be able to get Australian social security payments if they run into financial hardship, even if they’ve paid tax in Australia. New Zealanders’ visas (and so their ability to live in Australia) can be canceled if Australian authorities assess that they do not meet the relevant character requirements. Read more information here.
How much money will you need to move?
The amount of money you’ll need to move to Australia from New Zealand and support yourself will depend on several factors such as your lifestyle, location in Australia, accommodation choices, and personal spending habits. Here is what you need to know; Renting costs vary widely across Australia. In major cities like Sydney and Melbourne, rent can be quite high, while regional areas or smaller cities might offer more affordable options.
Living Expenses will include groceries, transportation, utilities (electricity, gas, water), internet, and mobile phone bills. These costs can also vary significantly based on where you live and your personal consumption habits. You will also need to think about set-up costs, this includes things like rental bond (usually 4-6 weeks’ rent), and settling in costs if you need to buy any further household items specific to your new home.
To give a rough estimate, consider budgeting at least AUD $5,000 to AUD $10,000 for initial set-up costs and another AUD $2,000 to AUD $4,000 per month for living expenses, depending on your location and lifestyle. This is a general guideline and actual costs can vary widely. It’s always a good idea to research specific costs in the area you plan to move to and to have a financial buffer to ensure a smooth transition.
What are your healthcare options in Australia?
As a New Zealand citizen moving to Australia, you are eligible for some level of coverage under Australia’s public health system, Medicare. Here are the key points to consider regarding health insurance in Australia:
New Zealand citizens moving to Australia are generally covered by Medicare under the Reciprocal Health Care Agreement (RHCA). This agreement allows you access to medically necessary treatment in public hospitals and subsidized medical services. While Medicare covers many healthcare services, there are limitations. For example, it does not cover all medical services, dental care, ambulance services, or private hospital care.
While not mandatory, many people in Australia, including New Zealanders, choose to take out private health insurance to cover services not included in Medicare, such as dental, optical, and certain elective procedures. Private health insurance can also provide more choices and shorter waiting times for non-emergency treatments.
Before you move, it’s advisable to research your specific healthcare needs and consider whether private health insurance would be beneficial for you based on your circumstances and the level of coverage you desire beyond what Medicare provides.
What Australia laws will you need to comply with?
As a New Zealand citizen living in Australia, you’ll need to adhere to various laws and regulations that apply to all residents in Australia. Here are some key areas to be aware of:
Employment, ensure you have the appropriate work rights depending on your visa status. Adhere to Australian workplace laws and regulations regarding pay, conditions, and safety.
Taxation, you are required to pay taxes on income earned in Australia. Familiarise yourself with Australian tax laws, including filing requirements and deductions.
If you plan to drive in Australia, check the requirements for converting your New Zealand driver’s license to an Australian one (if necessary) and familiarise yourself with Australian road rules.
It’s important to stay informed about any changes in Australian laws and regulations that may affect you. Seeking advice from relevant authorities or legal professionals can help ensure you comply with all applicable laws while living in Australia as a New Zealand citizen.

Carpooling Revolution: The Eco-Friendly Future of Taxi Services
In recent years, the rise of taxi booking apps has transformed urban transportation, offering convenience and efficiency to millions of users. However, as entrepreneurs and startup leaders in the mobile app development industry, it’s crucial to understand the environmental impacts of these services. This article explores the dual nature of taxi apps' influence on sustainability, backed by relevant statistics and insights from industry experts.
The Environmental Landscape of Transportation
Transportation is a significant contributor to greenhouse gas emissions, accounting for approximately 29% of total emissions in the United States alone. Traditional taxi services, primarily powered by fossil fuels, exacerbate this issue. The combustion of gasoline and diesel vehicles releases large amounts of carbon dioxide (CO2) and other pollutants, contributing to climate change and air quality degradation. The urgent need for sustainable alternatives has never been more pressing.
The Role of Taxi Booking Apps in Promoting Sustainability
Taxi booking apps have emerged as a key player in the shift towards greener transportation. Here’s how they contribute to sustainability:
1. Encouraging Electric and Hybrid Vehicles
Many taxi apps are now integrating electric and hybrid vehicles into their fleets. This shift not only reduces emissions but also promotes the adoption of cleaner vehicle technologies among taxi operators. A study highlighted that ride-hailing services could reduce emissions by up to 50% if they transitioned to electric vehicles. As a mobile app development company in USA, investing in features that support electric vehicle options can position your app as a leader in sustainable transport.
2. Optimizing Routes for Efficiency
Advanced algorithms in taxi booking apps analyze real-time traffic data to optimize routes. This capability minimizes unnecessary driving and reduces fuel consumption. According to research, efficient routing can cut fuel usage by 10-20%, translating to significant emissions reductions. By prioritizing route optimization in your cab booking app development, you can enhance user experience while contributing to environmental goals.
3. Facilitating Carpooling
Carpooling features in taxi apps allow users to share rides with others traveling in the same direction. This not only reduces the number of vehicles on the road but also lowers emissions. A study found that ride-sharing can decrease the number of cars needed by up to 40%, significantly alleviating traffic congestion and its associated environmental impacts. As you develop a white label taxi booking system, consider incorporating robust carpooling functionalities to appeal to eco-conscious users.
4. Promoting Multi-Modal Transportation
Integrating taxi services with public transportation options enhances urban mobility sustainability. By offering seamless transitions between taxis, buses, trains, and bikes, apps can encourage the use of public transport, further reducing reliance on personal vehicles. This holistic approach to transportation is essential for reducing the overall carbon footprint of urban travel.
The Flip Side: Environmental Challenges
Despite these positive contributions, taxi booking apps also face criticism regarding their environmental impact:
1. Increased Vehicle Miles Traveled (VMT)
The convenience of ride-hailing services has led to an increase in vehicle miles traveled. Research indicates that ride-hailing services contribute to a rise in VMT, with some studies suggesting that they can increase emissions by up to 60% in urban areas. This phenomenon, known as "deadheading," occurs when drivers travel without passengers, further exacerbating congestion and pollution.
2. Traffic Congestion
The proliferation of taxi apps has been linked to increased traffic congestion in cities. The ease of booking rides can lead to more people choosing taxis over public transport, resulting in higher vehicle counts on the road. A report noted that ride-hailing services could contribute to a 15-20% increase in congestion, particularly in densely populated areas.
3. Diversion from Public Transport
The availability of ride-hailing services can divert users from public transportation, cycling, and walking. This shift can lead to a net decrease in the use of more sustainable transport options, which is detrimental to overall environmental goals. As an entrepreneur, it’s vital to consider how your app can complement public transport rather than compete with it.
The Path Forward: Innovating for Sustainability
As the taxi app industry evolves, there are several strategies entrepreneurs can adopt to enhance sustainability:
1. Invest in Green Technologies
Partnering with electric vehicle manufacturers and investing in charging infrastructure can significantly reduce the environmental impact of taxi services. By promoting electric vehicles within your app, you can attract eco-conscious consumers and contribute to a cleaner environment.
2. Implement Dynamic Pricing
Dynamic pricing strategies can encourage off-peak travel, reducing congestion during peak hours. By incentivizing users to travel during less busy times, you can help balance demand and decrease the environmental footprint of your service.
3. Foster Community Engagement
Engaging with local communities and educating users about the environmental benefits of using taxi apps can foster a culture of sustainability. Consider implementing features that allow users to track their carbon savings or participate in community initiatives focused on reducing emissions.
4. Collaborate with Policymakers
Working alongside city planners and policymakers can help integrate taxi services into broader urban mobility strategies. By aligning your app with city sustainability goals, you can play a pivotal role in shaping the future of urban transportation.
Conclusion
The environmental impacts of taxi booking apps are multifaceted, offering both opportunities and challenges. As entrepreneurs in the mobile app development space, it’s essential to recognize the potential for these services to drive sustainability in urban transportation. By embracing innovative technologies, optimizing operations, and fostering community engagement, you can create a taxi app that not only meets user needs but also contributes to a greener future.
The journey towards sustainable transportation is a collective effort, and as a startup leader, you have the power to influence this transformation. By prioritizing sustainability in your cab booking app development, you can position your business as a leader in the green transportation movement, paving the way for a cleaner, more efficient urban mobility landscape. Together, we can drive forward into a future where technology and sustainability go hand in hand, ensuring a healthier planet for generations to come.

Mumbai is the financial center of India and has grown into a center for jobs, property, and public works. Regarding real estate projects, MahRERA approved 769 new projects between October and November of last year; during the same period of time this year, the number increased to 823. Transit Talk Thursday
Transit Talk Thursday: This week I want to talk about the Jacksonville Skyway, as I was talking about the failure of the Jacksonville Skyway to someone I know who lives in the area a few days ago, and it got me thinking about the subject in general. I've had a bit of a chip on my shoulder in regards to people movers and PRT systems, but I've never really understood why until I began looking a bit into the Jacksonville Skyway inevitably shuttering its doors. I think it's a good example of what not to do in regards to building a strong rail-based transit system in a city, hence why this week's post will be dissecting it.
For the uninitiated, the Jacksonville Skyway was this weird people mover that operates in the city of Jacksonville, Florida, here in the United States. It was opened in 1989 to address issues regarding traffic and congestion in Jacksonville, using fully automated trains that run on an elevated monorail track. Jacksonville initially expected it to get about 100,000 monthly riders, unfortunately, it did not get nearly that amount, and many in and out of Jacksonville wrote it off as a joke of a system. Nowadays, the system is free to ride, but Jacksonville is trying to get rid of it in favor of pod cars instead, which will inevitably be even worse than this. Hey, maybe I could rip into it in a future post. Who knows.
Okay, so now that we know what the Skyway is, what are the problems with it?
Let's start off with the most obvious, being the fact that it's a monorail. I'm not going to get into every single detail as to why monorails suck for public transit as Train of Thought has already made an excellent video on it here but the key point I want to focus on is the cars themselves. The Skyway trains have a very low capacity relative to regular trainsets, so the amount of people that can get use out of this relative to a regular rapid rail line is going to be substantially less.
But wait, it gets worse.
With most regular train lines, you are usually able to couple more trainsets together to increase capacity when needed. While the Skyway sets can do this, their low individual capacity means a traditional trainset will always outpace it for capacity. Either way you chop it, the Skyway was never going to get more riders than a regular rapid rail line, let alone 100,000 monthly riders. It was never going to happen as a result of its fundamental design.
These last two issues I don't have as much to talk about, as the Skyway isn't as bad here, but they are still worth mentioning.
The next issue the Skyway suffers from is a lackluster schedule. Schedules are the lifeblood of good transit, as good schedules make sure people can actually use said transit. The Skyway schedule is flawed, to say the least. The Skyway will only run between 6 A.M. to 9 P.M., and on weekdays only. On-peak is defined as between 6-9 A.M. and 4-7 P.M., with trains arriving 4 minutes. For off-peak, this is every 8 minutes. This is okay for the most parts, but what sours things is no late night service and, especially, no service on weekends. Good transit should be able to serve people at nearly anytime, not just 9-5 commuters on weekdays. I don't expect transit to run 24/7 nonstop, as that's incredibly unrealistic, but transit shouldn't be delegated as something you only use when going to work. It should be an option 99% of the time when you have to travel somewhere within a city.
The last issue is the Skyway really deserves better land use. This is moreso an issue with United States cities in general, but in regards to transit it's much more important. The main thing that transit is intended to do is to bring people to places worth going to, be it their homes, work, a place to relax, a place to shop, etc. This is all thrown out the window if transit is subservient to the automobile, in which the only thing that it will bring people to is cars in a parking lot. This is fine if you do own a car at said station, but if you don't, then what's the point? For this, the Skyway is alright as it is somewhat connected to other services and some businesses, but it still suffers from having way too much parking at stations.
(Pic from Google Earth, look at all of that parking. Seriously?!)
And unfortunately, even if you were to theoretically fix all three of these issues, congratulations! You just invented a regular rapid transit line! What even was the point of that monorail?
So, conclusion time?
If there's anything to learn from the Jacksonville Skyway, it's that, unfortunately, not all transit is created equal. From it's inception, the Skyway was screwed due to its nonstandard design in regards to its rolling stock, and no amount of good schedules nor transit oriented development (not that the Skyway got either) was going to save it. If any cities are going to want to improve themselves via rail-based transit, they would be wise to take a lesson from the Jacksonville Skyway and learn that transit existing by itself isn't enough. It needs to be the right transit for a city and it needs the city's love and care to truly flourish and benefit the people.

How to Save Money on Airport Chauffeur Services Without Compromising Quality
Traveling between Geelong and Melbourne, particularly to Tullamarine Airport, can be a hassle if you don't have reliable transportation. Many travelers opt for the convenience and comfort of airport chauffeur services, but these can sometimes come with a hefty price tag. In this guide, we'll show you how to save money on airport chauffeur services without compromising on quality.
1. Plan Your Trip in Advance
One of the simplest yet most effective ways to save money on airport chauffeur services is to plan your trip well in advance. Last-minute bookings often come with premium prices. By booking your chauffeur service ahead of time, you can take advantage of early booking discounts and secure a better rate.
2. Compare Service Providers
Not all airport chauffeur services are created equal. Take the time to research and compare different service providers in Geelong and Melbourne. Look for companies that offer competitive rates while maintaining a reputation for reliability and quality service. Online reviews and recommendations from friends or colleagues can be valuable resources in this regard.
Also Check: private airport transfers geelong to tullamarine
3. Opt for Shared Rides
If you're traveling alone or as a couple, consider sharing your airport chauffeur service with others heading in the same direction. Many companies offer shared ride options that can significantly reduce your costs. Shared rides are not only economical but also eco-friendly as they reduce the number of vehicles on the road.
4. Use Loyalty Programs and Discounts
Some airport chauffeur service providers offer loyalty programs or discounts to frequent travelers. Check if the company you're interested in has such programs in place. Joining loyalty programs can lead to discounts, free upgrades, or other perks that help you save money in the long run.
5. Be Mindful of Extra Services
When booking your airport chauffeur service, pay attention to the extra services offered. While amenities like in-car Wi-Fi, complimentary beverages, and premium music systems may be tempting, they can add to the cost. If you're looking to save money, opt for a basic package without unnecessary frills.
Also Check: car geelong to tullamarine
6. Book During Off-Peak Hours
Airport chauffeur services often have peak and off-peak pricing. If your travel schedule allows for flexibility, consider booking your ride during off-peak hours. You'll likely find lower rates during less busy times of the day or week.
7. Choose the Right Vehicle
The type of vehicle you choose can significantly impact the cost of your airport chauffeur service. If you're traveling alone or with just one other person, opt for a smaller car instead of a larger, more expensive vehicle. Discuss your specific needs with the service provider to find the most cost-effective option.
8. Ask About Package Deals
Some airport chauffeur services offer package deals that include transportation to and from the airport, as well as additional services like city tours or hotel transfers. If you plan to use these additional services, inquire about package deals that can provide better overall value.
9. Consider Local Alternatives
In some cases, local transportation options such as shuttle buses, public transit, or rideshare services like Uber or Lyft may be more budget-friendly than traditional chauffeur services. Be sure to weigh the pros and cons of each option before making your decision.
10. Communicate Your Budget
Don't hesitate to communicate your budget and preferences with the chauffeur service provider. They may be able to tailor a solution that meets your needs without breaking the bank. Be clear about any special requests or requirements you have to ensure a smooth and cost-effective experience.
Also Read: The VIP Experience: Navigating Airports with Chauffeur Services
In conclusion, saving money on airport chauffeur services while maintaining quality is possible with some thoughtful planning and research. By booking in advance, comparing providers, considering shared rides, and being mindful of additional services, you can enjoy a comfortable and convenient journey between Geelong and Melbourne's Tullamarine Airport without emptying your wallet. Remember to prioritize reliability and safety alongside cost savings for a stress-free travel experience.

"Ban personal vehicles" should be the FINAL stage in a walkable community.
First - add public transit; make sure it goes everywhere so that nobody has to walk more than a quarter-mile to get to a transit stop. Make it run frequently enough and have enough cross-connections that the difference between driving & transit is negligible, or at least, there's not more than 20% extra time for taking transit. Often, public transit should take less time - trains are faster than cars.
(My 15-mile trip to work is 30 minutes on public transit... including walking a few blocks at either end. It's about that in a car - in mid-afternoon. During rush hour, it's about double that, plus gas & a bridge toll that add up to more than a round-trip ticket.) (And that's before we get to parking costs in downtown SF.)
Put the bus stops at the doors of major shopping centers, not on the other side of the parking lot or around the block, half a mile away, so that anyone who needs to carry packages can't use the bus. Make sure the bus stops have shade and seats.
("But homeless people might sleep in them!" ...honey, if homeless people are sleeping in bus stops, the problem is not that they have found shelter there; it's that they haven't found shelter elsewhere. Work on that too.)
Next - Make the place more walk-friendly. Sidewalks everywhere. Ramps where they connect to streets. Bike lanes. Trees. Benches. Benches with shade. Zoning reform to allow multi-family housing, small businesses, parks, schools, and "third spaces" like libraries or rec centers - all nearby each other.
Add some fucking public restrooms, dammit. And water fountains. And some kid-friendly artwork.
Next, as the effects from those cause ripples, look at redesigning the streets. Are they wider than they need to be for the traffic you want, rather than the traffic that currently uses them? Ripping out streets to replace them is expensive - but eventually, they need repairs, or changes to the street plan to allow for new homes or businesses, in which case... make actual changes instead of prioritizing 4 lanes of car traffic.
Eventually, you may wind up with "ban all personal vehicles and only leave spaces for emergency access." But first: You make the place walk-friendly and slower for personal vehicles; those who need them can still use them; those who don't, will use the other options, because they will be both convenient and pleasant for most people.
No banning cars until
There is a robust public transit service in place - and by "robust," I mean "can easily be navigated by a 9-year-old traveling alone, an 80-year-old using a walker, and a mom with two preschool kids doing shopping," from any neighborhood in the city. (Psst "easily navigated" includes "easily afforded.") (Need funding for that? Stop subsidizing cars.)
Throw in "easy parking at transit center hubs" and make sure disability access is not "four parking spaces, half a block away from the transit entrance."
Public "walkable" areas don't just have walkways but rest places - benches, shade, water, restrooms, access to food & commerce in easy distance. (No "must walk five blocks to get out of the business district to find a food place that's not a coffee shop.")
AFTER those are in place and functional... THEN you start talking about restricting personal auto use in the area. And that doesn't mean "then you ban cars" but "then--and not before then--you research how cars are actually being used in the area."
Because odds are, you don't have to ban cars at all.
I mean, it's great that the "what about emergency vehicle access?" hack is so effective when pointing out the deficiencies of proposals for walkable communities, but it kind of burns my ass that you need to take that approach in the first place. I don't know how many conversations about communities planning I've seen that go like this:
Walkable communities advocate: Here's a plan for a walkable community in which only public transit will be permitted – no personal vehicles of any kind will be allowed.
Disability advocate: What about access for physically disabled people? If your options are public transit or the sidewalk and literally nothing else, any disabled person whose needs aren't fully served 100% of the time by your favoured public transit framework is fucked, and there's no such thing as a perfect public transit framework.
Walkable communities advocate, whose brain shut down the moment they heard the word "disabled" and didn't process anything past that point: Oh, you silly cripple, the term "walkable community" doesn't mean you're only allowed to walk! How quaint.
I guess pointing out "well, if only public transit is accommodated, how are firefighters and paramedics supposed to access emergencies?" works because now they can imagine themselves being affected!

Rambling through the avenues of time
Thanks for the attention, in advance.
Going to SoCal in a few weeks because my hometown best friend's mom is getting married, so Hometown Best Friend, who currently lives in Asia, will be over for a long while. The county fair is on and neither of us have been in a decade or more, and we're planning some smaller cornball stops around LA. Partying like it's the 90s boiiii
I love a train and an excuse to read for hours, so normally I love the trip down there, but this time I'm absolutely dreading it. We grew up in a relatively sizeable suburb that peaked as a 1950s surf town. I didn't really realize how big it was until just this week, when I looked at the route map and saw all the nothing surrounding it. I always felt so isolated out there: the nearest other "cool spots" (read: larger towns than ours) are all a good hour away, and no matter how you travel to them, you get to look at mostly empty fields for the majority of the trip.
When I was a kid, I always imagined all the blank spots along the freeway filled in with a rainforest. I was a deeply introverted baby conservationist and that was the exact flavor of life I wanted to be surrounded by. Now I live in a much larger city with housing almost constantly in my line of sight, and I find that extremely comforting. Signs of life! Friends, maybe! I'll never meet most of the people living here, but I have this exceptional urge to protect them, based on this singular thing we have in common. I've apparently been craving neighbors to ride or die for, sight unseen, this entire time.
And I guess I'm kind of afraid of stepping away from them, even for a little while. In between the infrequent gorgeous ranch that's probably fully dependent on migrant labor, I'm going to see a ton of mid-sized shopping centers that I know are inaccessible without public transit. I don't want to be neighbors with people who would scoff at taking a bus; who consider it shameful to not have a car, house, recent phone, etc, but not shameful to use public storage and outlet malls; who are too paranoid to even occasionally walk to get their necessities. Yes, the farms self-sustain, to a certain degree - but the ability to "disconnect" like that smacks of privilege to me now.
I'm admittedly making a lot of assumptions, but I grew up mostly around the type I just summarized. I don't think I like that part of the world anymore. The land and the glimpses of the ocean can be gorgeous, but they damn sure don't make a place seem welcoming. Cities aren't for anybody until they're for everybody. Seeing CenCal and SoCal from the freeway is like peeping over the fences of an endless chain of gated communities.
So that's the shot, and the chaser is:
All the media I cling to as an adult has something that makes me feel like I'm literally there. I'm not going to shut up about Opal anytime soon because I jump every time I see Claire trying to wriggle out of her mom's grasp. I'll also probably never shut up about BTAS because I grew up with at least one parent with NPD, and that particular Joker doesn't crush it so much as he runs it through a hydraulic press.
When I Make It, I hope I capture the isolation I've been talking about. Boyfriend's been saying "alone in a crowd", but that's not quite it. It's more like getting out into the open world to realize that it's almost completely blank. The Allegory of the Cave, but it's actually a space capsule, and once you escape, you find yourself floating in the void. But with none of that imagery, of course. It'll be white walls and concrete and a constant cool fog that neither touches the ground nor lifts. While everyone you know tells you what a privilege it is to live somewhere warm and colorful and sunny.
My version of hell, crafted with love for the people who see it and say "same".
#this post is brought to you by a shitload of antidepressants#not that you'd know#edgelord shit#we live in a society#apologies to other southern californians please don't dox me#i'll stay here if you stay there
