Okay so I’ve been listening to The Magnus Archives (i’m on ep 188)

And I’ve been thinking, Cale would definitely be a good candidate as The Archivist.

Before I list the reasons on why, I’m gonna explain what The Archivist is and some tma background knowledge for tcf fans who haven’t listened to tma.

So there’s like 14 fear categories/entities (Smirke’s 14) and one other not listed. They go as followed: The Buried (claustrophobia, being trapped, choked), The Corruption (bugs, filth, disease), The Dark (self-explanatory), The Desolation (flames, loss, pain, destruction), The End (death), The Eye (being watched, known, exposed), The Flesh (M E A T, being eaten, body horror), The Hunt (being chased/prey), The Lonely (self-explanatory), The Slaughter (senseless violence, war), The Spiral (madness, unreality stuff), The Stranger (uncanny valley, not knowing), The Vast (acrophobia, thalassophobia, insignificance), The Web (spiders, manipulation), and finally… The Extinction (catastrophic change, destruction of humanity)

It’s not a strict categorization system since the fears tend to bleed into one another, but it works.

So The Archivist is part of The Eye. It’s a position where an Avatar (someone who serves under one of these powers), is like the main person who archives these aforementioned fears. The better name for it is actually The Archive, because The Archivist is more like a living archive of these fears.

So now I think we’ve gotten most of the exposition out of the way here’s why Cale is definitely a good Archivist candidate.

First of all he’s a living record b/c of his Record ability which gives him a photographic memory. Especially during that scene where he was in the directory and used his Record ability for the first time in the BoaH world. Literally already an archive man what else do I gotta say.

Secondly, he’d probably been marked (traumatized) by numerous fear entities: The End (WS’s curse, GoD is an End avatar I will die on that hill), The Desolation(?) (WS’s curse again, deals more with the loss aspect of it), The Lonely, (WS’s curse… again…), The Extinction (The Cataclysm, need I say less), The Hunt (directly from the Cataclysm), The Stranger (Those monsters that pretended to be hostages), and The Corruption(?) (He’d probably had to deal w/ parasites during the Cataclysm)

Thats 5-7 fear entities he would’ve been marked by, this man is another Edwin Burroughs i swear, perfect for that mass ritual if the Cataclysm hadn’t happened.

Lastly, he’s just like really smart. He only had like 5 volumes worth of knowledge, didn’t even know who WS was and then foiled like all that Radish’s plans lmaoo

He’d made good use of all the knowledge he beholds is all I’m saying.

But this was just a kinda organized ramble from someone who just wants to mesh these two things together. I might make a post assigning which fear entities the tcf cast would be avatars of but who knows lolol
