Splatoon 3 artbook is coming! and they gave us hi res sample pages! so i translated them!
I’ve already preordered the book, and since I live in Japan I should be getting it very soon after release. mark my words I’m gonna go crazee translating it i need that Lore
In the meantime, some translations of the sample pages! take a look under the cut:
Page 44, IKIMONO (Living things)
yellow text: Among the living things in the Inkling world, a wide variety of species exist. There are creatures that can take on a humanoid form as well, called "Inklings" and "Octolings", the former being squids, and the latter being octopuses. white text in gray box: The old and the new mix to make the Splatland's youth culture The young people who grew up in Splatsville take pride in being born and raised in the Splatlands, and there is an extremely strong sense of solidarity in the community. They deeply cherish their old local culture, which is unsophisticated and simple, yet strong. At the same time, they like to make fun of urban areas such as Inkopolis for acting like they're "all that". On the other hand, many of them secretly yearn for that sophisticated, high-collar, Inkopolis culture. The current culture of chaos created by the youth with such a flip-flopping mentality is becoming increasingly global.
I’m going to translate these roughly. character select screen outfit, left: lines pointing to reflective goggles, a mask that blocks dust, and the cape. the cape is made from kelp, and is meant to block out sunlight. hero suit outfit, right: the “ultra light earpiece” is so light, it doesn’t even feel like you’re wearing it. The ink display is a digital screen. Boots are meant for rough terrain. Interestingly, agent 3 is holding a weapon called a “Hero Extinguisher.”
the gear on the left is called “hunting equipment”. The earpiece is based on an udon noodle. It’s small, but it has a deep sound (with bass i assume instead of sounding tinny?) Around the neck are cooling pads. The shirt is made from a seaweed fabric. apparently its wrapped around their upper body and kind of hurts to wear. you can see their underwear, but its the kind of underwear that’s supposed to be seen for Fashion. idk what its called but you guys know what im talking about. The ink tank is homemade. in the pouch of the backpack are snacks. to the right are very early concepts.
Page 62, Deep Cut concepts
It’s a lot of handwritten notes with a lot of pointing out what the drawing is, so I’m going to translate roughly.
bottom left is pointing out various things about frye’s head anatomy. small chin, forehead sticks out, thick neck, head curves like this and this etc. middle frye with the bit of green and red makeup is described as having a clown-like feel to it. tiny furthest right drawing is commenting on a specific nose shape concept as “bird-like.” she almost had the same nose as my main OCs what the
red arrows on the right: long arms, long thighs, squared shoulders are pretty. hand in the middle with black text: something like ‘if she has hands with ornamentation like this it makes her hands seem long’ bottom left: the little doodle of the face reads that her ‘mouth is kind of like this.’ the other text talks about how her eyebrows move asymmetrically, as having that kind of variety in the movement is key.
left: she’s saying something about sharks? apparently she was going to be associated with sharks with shiver being associated with eels instead. right: various sound effects. “looking around absentmindedly” “rocking back and forth” “dozing off.” on the bottom it shows her suddenly stiffening to attention.
left: in her left hand, it’s a sensu (japanese folding fan). in her right, its a harisen (the kind of folding fan used to smack people in slapstick routines) gonna be real here the text on the right is too cursivey i cant read it
shiver mask designs. neat stuff.
early design concept.
Page 198, Scorch Gorge
not a lot of text on this page, mostly images, have a look yourself. top right passage: A majestic canyon where the history of the Inkling world can be seen in the strata and rock formations. Many enjoy rock climbing here. There's a spawn point that was once used for ink battles that no-one has bothered to remove.

Obsessed with this jacket. It has everything 14-year-old me would have wanted in an ouji piece. Also it has a hood with the longest rabbit ears (!!) that give it a tailcoat vibe.
~Beagling~Cute and Cool gothic lolita suit jacket - Princess Chronicles monster shirt - Kinwamonster jeans - Uniqlo boots - Demonia choker & cuff - Creepyyeha rings - Raspberry Mazohyst
nail polish: Gandalf & Nothing's Impossible, Charlie - Glam Polish
[ID: A casual outfit with ouji and visual-kei elements. The main pieces are an elegant black ouji suit jacket and a black and white all-over-print shirt with various monsters. The jacket has a cape-like silhouette with the sleeve construction and an asymmetrical bow on one side at the waist. The rest of the outfit consists of dark blue jeans, black platform boots, a black choker and wrist cuff, and a grey scrunchie worn as a bracelet.
A detail photo shows the nail art, which has a spooky fake blood drip effect. The two nail polish colors are a grey with red and orange glitter, and a bright glittery red with black speckles. Three of the nails are painted solid colors, and the other two are a base of grey with red in a drippy design at the tips.]

these are the riders I would assign to each symphogear character if it was me in charge of the crossover
hibiki: beast or lazer girigiri chanbara
beast is more thematic for her bc the way that nitoh is so casual about how he'll get eaten by the monster inside him if he doesn't eat enough other monsters is just like her. but girigiri chanbara is so cute and I would want to see her in an outfit based off of it
tsubasa: knight
to anyone who knows both series this should be obvious. sword user. blue. motivated by dead/comatose girlfriend. wants to kill the protagonist but they form a strong bond later
chris: wild chalice or geiz
I always think of chalice as a red rider but he's mostly black unless he's wild chalice. anyway I think he's a good match bc him and chris are both technically bow users but I don't really think of them that way. plus chris also says shit like bukkorosu. geiz is red and grumpy so that could also be cute
maria: zangetsu shin
similar color scheme, white with green accents. I picked shin instead of regular zangetsu bc it's asymmetrical. her and takatora have similar characters in that they're big sibs who are willing to do evil things to protect people
shirabe: tsukuyomi
bc her surname is tsukuyomi. but also I think she's one of the more femme characters so a female rider design is more suited to her
kirika: snipe or zeronos
kirika is a witch with a scythe so there aren't really any riders that match? I guess woz had a scythe. anyway I went with snipe bc he has such cringe chuuni vibes or zeronos bc I think the girls who use linker should be riders where transforming into them is actively harmful
kanade: amazon alpha
feral and red with cool black boots. also jin injecting himself with amazon cells fits with kanade pushing herself too hard with linker
miku: kivala or aguilera
kivala for the color scheme. aguilera bc she's a character you never expected to transform who gets to do it due to her lesbian feelings. and aguilera represents a woman using a power that was used to manipulate her on her own terms which is the same with miku and shenshoujing. and she's another one where I think only a rider that was designed as female suits her

DCA Info Part 44: Cercvile de Venin Outfits 👑
Style: Gothic and Cool
A brand inspired by the gloom and despair of the animals and dwarves when Snow White was placed in the glass coffin. The clothes have a rather aesthetically pleasing yet grim design with plenty of dark colors and asymmetry. Many of the outfits in this brand were influenced by Queen Grimhilde and her vanity. This is the brand that Evonie uses for her "Masked Maiden" persona.
Queenly Peacock
"Unapproachable beauty that depicts the vain nature of the peacock that the Beautiful Queen is fond of"
The outfit: Inspired by Queen Grimhilde's love for peacocks, this mermaid style dress is deep violet in color with the top half appearing to be a separate piece resembling a shawl. The shawl portion is broken up into two parts, have elegant floral patterns, and has a high neck collar. The crimson portion has pale yellow lace and it's hems have gold trim that resemble the shape of a crown. The ruffle sleeves are black with a red interior and have a feather pattern on them. The footwear consists of a pair of black heeled shoes.
Accessories: The accessories include a yellow rosette hairpiece with a purple and red ribbon with a red gem brooch in the center, violet feathers with fuchsia tips and gold chains attached to teardrop brooches. The outfit additionally comes with a necklace featuring the same teardrop brooch as the hairpiece chains. The most notable accessory is the transparent indigo cape with gold tips that resemble peacock feather.
Huntress
"Never let go of your prey, just remember to save the heart to offer to your beautiful queen, faithful huntress."
The outfit: Inspired by the Huntsman, this outfit includes a maroon sweetheart top worn underneath a purplish gray jacket dress with a black lapel with gold trim, and black rectangular epaulettes with gold trim, fringes and decorations in the shape of daggers. The bottom half of the outfit features an indigo floral overskirt with the other side being a solid crimson, the interior of the dress also includes a transparent black skirt with the same floral print as the overskirt. The footwear consists of a pair of purplish gray ankle boots with gold soles, black and gold straps and the top of the boots have brown fur.
Accessories: The accessories include a purplish gray hat with black plumage, black and gold ribbon, and a rectangular violet gem brooch accompanied by a dagger charm. The hat includes a black floral transparent veil that obscures the upper half of the wearer's face. Other accessories include a black and gold choker with the same brooch seen on the hat and is attached to pearl strands on each side, a black belt with a gold buckle and a pair of gold pearl strands attached to a gold key charm that includes a raven on it.
Caged Raven
"The only thing the raven lived by is the smell of the potions brewed by the queen, there was nothing exciting happening at all... Until the queen brewed a poison apple."
The outfit: Based on Queen Grimhilde's pet raven, this navy blue colored dress with golden trimming features a sleeveless side on the right with a gold chain with red gem brooches serving as a sleeve and the left side features a midnight blue long sleeve with the end of the sleeve having a sparkly fuchsia and gold cuff. The skirt is asymmetrical and appears to have a feather pattern on it and features a sparkly fuchsia interior and a tattered black petticoat. The footwear consists of a pair of indigo boots with gold trim, tips and laces. There is also a sparkly fuchsia strap with gold trim and on the top of the boots are a red gem brooch.
Accessories: The accessories include a hair accessory that resembles a ruffled indigo flower with a sparkly fuchsia interior and is attached to midnight blue feathers that obscures half of the wearer's face. There's a brooch in the center of the long sleeve portion of the dress. Additional accessories include a midnight blue arm warmer with a fuchsia and gold cuff on the right hand and a gold chain of teardrop brooches around the skirt.
Shrouded Queen
"A beautiful face hidden under the dark veil of deceit, what could she be hiding?"
The outfit: Taking inspiration from Queen Grimhilde's old hag form, this dress features a gold and black bodice with gold trim in the shape of a V dividing both parts. The inner mini skirt is a solid black color with gold trim and the asymmetrical outer skirt is gray with a pattern that resembles a rabbit skull and has gold trim. The footwear consists of a pair of black and gold sandals with a gold brooch with a blue gem.
Accessories: The most significant accessory is the black veil with gold trim and diamond shaped charms attached to pearl strands throughout. Another significant accessory is the gold collar with black webbed accents and a blue gem brooch in the center. The gold parts resemble lotus petals. Other accessories include a pair of black opera length gloves, three gold bracelets on the wearer's left hand and a gold belt with the same pearl strands and charms as shown on the veil.

first impressions of the PJSK character designs (i know nothing about their personalities or anything yet)
Ichika Hoshino: it's alright, just not the most interesting? her eye colour is nice
Saki Tenma: i love her hairstyle and hair colour!! and the bright pink eyes! not the biggest fan of the yellow cardigan though
Honami Mochizuki: so pretty!! her light brown hair goes super well with her blue yes, and both contrast beautifully with her dark red outfit! the black bows on the sleeves are a nice touch too! lovely hair tie too
Shiho Hinomori: though her hair is grey, her design doesn't look dull, cause her eyes and outfit are that bright, light green, i think it's pretty! her hairstyle is simple, but i really like it
Minori: she looks very nice! i don't like orange, but it works on her, especially with the green. her eyes stand out a lot too, since they're a cool-ish grey and all the other colours are warm
Haruka Kiritani: her hair and eye colour, that like ink blue, is one of my favourite colours!! and my hairstyle's kinda like hers rn. i like the black and white stripy bow in her hair, and the colours of her oufit
Airi Momoi: i love her bows!! i wish the pink on them stood out a little more from her hair more though
Shizuku Hinomori: i love her design so much, it's so pretty. the colours all go so well together. i love the mint green rose especially. her hair colour is really nice
Kohane Azusawa: she's okay, the pigtails are cute. i just don't really like the outfit that much? idk why though
An Shiraishi: my favourite design, i already love her so much. everything is perfect. the cute hairclips? her amber eyes which look GREAT with her dark hair? the blue ombre at the bottom of her hair? her asymmetrical hoodie with the beautiful teal colour? everything is amazing!
Akito Shinonome: he's kinda ehhhhh. like i said, i don't like orange, so i'm not the biggest fan of his colour palette. his design doesn't really stand out to me
Toya Aoyagi: love his hair!! i really like those colours, especially the periwinkle blue. the rest of his design is just okay
Tsukasa Tenma: he has that hair colour that Saki Tenma also has which i like! oh wait, they're both Tenma? are they siblings? anyway, i also love the ruffled collar! fancy!
Emu Otori: she loves sweets probably? respect that! her outfit's cute... but the sleeves... they don't match with anything else... at all
Nene Kusanagi: i like her outfit and butterfly hairband!! she gives me cottagecore vibes sorta? it's nice
Rui Kamishiro: THIS IS THE GUY THAT'S EVERYWHERE um i really really like his hair, those are two very pretty colours and they work together! the purple also compliments his yellow eyes. his outfit would probably look horrendous irl but it works on him!
Kanade: her eyes are a very pretty blue, and her hair's a nice colour too! her hair looks kinda flat though. i like that her hoodie drawstrings are different colours
Mafuyu Asahina: i love her hair and eye colours!! and how wavy her hair is
Ena Shinonome: i. have literally nothing to say. she... exists ig? her design's boring i'm sorry
Mizuki Akiyama: i love how pastel their hair is!! and their eyes too, they're so pretty. look so so nice with their dark red hair ribbon

Ranking Precure seasons purely on design and concept because I'm up early anyways (least favourite to most) Part 1.
18. Happiness Charge Precure
They're magical girl outfits have the least distinctive personalities with only minor differences from each other. I understand they were going for a Sailor Moon idea with a uniform style but the appearance of the outfits are very underwhelming to me. They're plain even for just overall magical girls, tbh.
17. Doki Doki Precure
It's mostly the hair that throws me off. It's a mixture of normal strands to big blobs. I wish they committed to the stylized hair and got rid of the fringes or else I'm stuck trying to understand how Cure Rosetta's pigtails work that would still make her bangs possible.
I like the overall drop-down dresses but its mismatched appearance feels like a bombardment of layers and shapes that don't mix harmoniously. I wouldn't be against an asymmetrical style if this Precure was heavily alternative but it ends up clashing with the cutesy atmosphere instead.
16. Precure Splash Star
This one is victim to being the first new precures after the original where they barely changed it up. It just ends up being the lesser version of the classic that made itself impossible to not make comparisons.
I do like the idea of Cure Egret's first outfit that lost its uniqueness in the new one just to match with Cure Bright. Cure Bright's outfit does upgrade as the greens in her old outfit didn't match her but it's nice they maintained green as an accent for her new one!
15. Healin' Good Precure
The designs are lovely and elegant, theres nothing inherently wrong with it but it's visually weak compared to its predecessors and descendants. I don't have much to say because there's just not much to say about it, to be honest. It's just kind of generic.
14. Smile Precure
I love the wild and creative hairstyles and the hair wings but that is really the only unique visual aspect to Smile. Also questionable transformation tool that markets wearing makeup to young girls which I know isn't new but still feels patriarchal and groomy. 😅
13. Soaring Sky! Precure
I have mixed feelings. I really dig Cure Sky's design and it's cool for the protagonist to be blue this time! I'm not into the puffy arm bands but the cape adds so much flare! Cure Prisms' softer design bounces off Cure Sky nicely and she looks great!
The other too... I despise honestly lol. It's cool we finally get a boy Precure as a part of the pack and that he isn't stereotypically masculine but his hair and outfit feels so unflattering. Cure Butterfly's outfit has the same issue with Doki Doki Precure and the merged arm sleeves are unsettling to me.
12. Delicious Party Precure
The style is meant to have festival vibes with traditional design elements which is a cool idea! It's a fun burst of colours with a cohesive theme but it doesn't stick in my mind. I wish all the girls leaned more into the cultural aesthetics but besides Cure Yum Yum (who I think is one of the best Precure Designs overall), they're mostly Victorian-esque which should've been unique to Cure Finale. Speaking of her, although I like her design, I also have a gripe with the blonde hair and blue eyes because it feels Eurocentric. And when her normal appearance is dark haired, she honestly feels white washed to me...
11. Tropical Rouge Precure
I love the designs and they gave such a unique concept, I just don't end up feeling strongly about this series. The designs feel a bit busy to me although I do love that Cure Summer isn't predominantly pink. She has a very unique look but other than her, everyone just feels like another iteration of past precures.
10. Suite Precure
Cure Melody and Cure Rythm slay, their designs are perfect! I love the music concept and their appearance bounce off each other just as well as Cure Black and Cure White did. The other girls ruin the cohesion for me, tbh and I don't really like their outfits. 🫤

White Leather Jacket: Timeless Elegance Meets Modern Style
A white leather jacket is White Men's Leather Jacket more than just a piece of outerwear; it’s a statement of style, confidence, and versatility. Known for its sleek appeal and the fresh energy it brings to any look, the white leather jacket has carved a niche for itself in fashion, from street style to high fashion. It represents a blend of boldness and elegance, adding a clean, polished touch to outfits while still hinting at a rebellious spirit.
1. A Brief History of Leather Jackets
Leather jackets have been iconic for decades, originating in the early 1900s as practical, durable garments for pilots and soldiers. The classic leather jacket became a cultural phenomenon in the mid-20th century, symbolizing rebellion, independence, and the spirit of rock and roll. While black leather jackets took center stage, the white leather jacket has emerged over time as a fresh, contemporary twist on the classic, radiating sophistication and setting the wearer apart.
2. Design Elements of a White Leather Jacket
A well-made white leather jacket embodies both luxury and edginess. Crafted from high-quality leather, such as lambskin or cowhide, these jackets are soft yet durable, capable of withstanding regular wear while remaining stylish. Typical features include:
Zippers: Often asymmetrical or centered, zippers add an edgy detail and can be practical for closing pockets or adjusting the fit.
Snaps and Buttons: These details add a touch of classic style, with snaps often featured on collars and cuffs.
Pockets: Many designs include zippered or buttoned pockets, which add functionality as well as visual interest.
Stitching and Panels: Thoughtfully placed seams and panels enhance the jacket's shape and provide a fitted, structured look.
3. The Appeal of White in Leather Jackets
The color white brings a modern twist to the traditionally dark leather jacket. A white leather jacket embodies a fresh, polished aesthetic, making it ideal for warmer months or brightening up a winter wardrobe. Its versatility allows it to pair well with a wide range of styles, whether dressed down with jeans and a t-shirt or styled up with a dress or tailored pants. The color also makes it a standout piece, effortlessly drawing attention and exuding sophistication.
4. How to Style a White Leather Jacket
Styling a white leather jacket is easy because it acts as a blank canvas for creativity:
Casual Looks: For a relaxed vibe, pair it with a plain or graphic tee and jeans. White sneakers or ankle boots complete the look for a comfortable yet polished style.
Chic and Polished: Throw it over a fitted black dress, and add heels or ankle boots for an elevated look perfect for dinner or a night out.
Office Ready: Layer it over a blouse and tailored trousers, bringing a touch of individuality to the professional setting.
Bold Statements: Experiment with contrasting colors, such as pairing with bright red pants or colorful accessories, to create a high-fashion look.
5. Care and Maintenance
White leather, while stunning, requires careful maintenance to preserve its color and texture. Regular cleaning with a leather cleaner designed for light colors is essential to prevent stains. Keeping the jacket in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight, helps it maintain its pristine appearance over time. For tougher stains, consider professional leather cleaning services.
6. Investing in Quality
A white leather jacket is an investment in quality and timeless fashion. High-quality leather jackets are designed to last for years, developing a unique patina over time. By choosing a well-made piece, you’re ensuring that your jacket will not only endure through various fashion trends but will also grow more beautiful and unique as it ages.
7. Conclusion
A white leather jacket offers an exciting way to make a statement while remaining effortlessly stylish. Its versatility, timeless appeal, and the touch of elegance it brings make it a must-have in any fashion lover’s wardrobe. Whether you’re going for a casual day look or something dressier for the evening, this jacket is sure to become one of the most cherished pieces in your collection.

How to Style Platinum Hoop Earrings for a Modern Look
Platinum earrings have long been a staple of timeless elegance, prized for their durability, luster, and versatility. Among these, platinum hoop earrings are particularly popular as they add a touch of sophistication to any outfit. Today, styling platinum earrings, especially hoops, with a modern twist involves combining classic elements with contemporary trends to create a fresh, unique look. Here’s a guide on how to style platinum hoop earrings for a polished and up-to-date appearance.
1. Embrace Minimalism for Everyday Elegance
Minimalist fashion is a major trend in modern styling, and platinum hoop earrings fit perfectly into this aesthetic. For a simple yet chic look, go for medium-sized platinum hoops with a sleek, unembellished design. Pairing these hoops with neutral or monochromatic outfits such as white shirts, black blazers, or beige dresses creates a refined, effortless look suitable for everyday wear. Platinum’s natural shine enhances the elegance of minimalistic styles without overpowering them, making it ideal for a day at the office or a casual lunch.
For a truly minimalist look, consider pulling your hair back into a sleek bun or ponytail, allowing the platinum earrings to take center stage. This hairstyle not only highlights the hoops but also keeps the look polished and understated.
2. Layer with Other Earrings for an Edgy Look
If you have multiple ear piercings, layering different styles of platinum earrings can add an edgy, modern twist. Start with a pair of small platinum hoops as the main focus, then add platinum studs, huggies, or even a subtle platinum chain earring in the upper piercings. The layering effect brings dimension and intrigue to your look, balancing elegance with a touch of rebellion.
To keep the look cohesive, stick with all-platinum pieces or add diamonds for a bit of sparkle. This stacked style pairs well with street-style fashion or chic night-out outfits, making it a favorite among trendsetters looking for an edgy and sophisticated appearance.
3. Play with Mixed Metals for a Bold Style Statement
Mixing metals has become a popular trend in jewelry, allowing for a personalized and creative look. Platinum earrings, known for their cool-toned brilliance, look stunning when paired with warm metals like gold or rose gold. For a balanced look, wear platinum hoops alongside small gold or rose gold studs or rings. This combination creates a striking contrast that feels fresh and modern.
To keep the mixed-metal look harmonious, consider pairing it with neutral or earth-toned clothing. Wearing accessories in a mix of metal tones adds sophistication without overwhelming the outfit. This bold style works well for fashion-forward individuals looking to experiment with modern jewelry trends.
4. Add a Modern Twist with Textured or Geometric Hoops
Platinum hoop earrings don’t have to be traditional. For a modern look, choose platinum hoops with textured, twisted, or geometric designs. Textured platinum hoops, such as hammered or ribbed finishes, add a subtle touch of uniqueness while maintaining their sleek appearance. Geometric shapes, like hexagonal or square hoops, make a statement and can be an unexpected twist on the classic hoop.
These statement designs pair beautifully with contemporary clothing like asymmetrical tops, structured blazers, or high-neck blouses. Styling them with textured or geometric hoops creates a dynamic look that is both modern and sophisticated, making it a versatile option for formal occasions or events.
5. Dress Up with Diamonds for Evening Glamour
For an evening event or a special occasion, consider platinum hoop earrings embellished with diamonds or gemstones. The addition of diamonds or sapphires amplifies the elegance of platinum hoops, creating a luxurious, glamorous effect that is perfect for a night out. Platinum’s cool tone complements diamonds beautifully, giving them a more vibrant sparkle.
Style these platinum earrings with classic evening attire, such as a sleek black dress or a tailored suit. Keep your other accessories minimal to let the platinum and diamond hoops be the focal point of the outfit. A chic updo or soft curls can complete the look, allowing your earrings to add a touch of drama and sophistication.
6. Go for Oversized Hoops for a Bold, Fashion-Forward Look
Oversized hoops are making a comeback and can be styled in a modern way with platinum’s refined sheen. Rating Dream Festival performance outfits (4)
(The ones mentioned here I think were used for the lives but I can’t be sure. But also I just wanted to talk about them.)
Scenario (Live A Rival) (R ep2)
I was rewatching episode 2 and 3 of R and I actually caught that they had played the last part of Scenario (the song Yuto was singing in the classroom when Keigo found him in ep7) and well, since the outfits were something different, I’m going to count it in the ranking.
I like them! Kurofune has a lot of good outfits, or maybe since it’s just the two of them, they don’t need much. But they somehow do vary from each other anyway. I like that Keigo’s outfits are long/classy while Yuto’s are sharper/casual. I can’t say that I would have thought this was a matching set if I saw them separately, but whatever.
8/10
AGF 2016 (Super Nova)
Very parade/circus theme? But I don’t think it’s too bad. (It’s because their outfits are varied isn’t it.) Maybe I could do without the stripe pants but they’re just as offensive as ResPo’s checker patterns. (Undesired but I will live)
I think they did Junya justice finally. I feel like he should match Kanade’s casual (open shirt, shorter sleeves) while Shin can get the closed shirt and long sleeves. (I’m always fond of Shin’s princely outfits.) Itsuki doesn’t look awful and I never have complaints about Chizu. Kurofune versions are fine too and everyone’s bottoms are all different!
8.9/10
Fan Meeting 05 (Dream Meeting)
I like these a lot! I guess the black and gold makes everyone look cool (*shakes fist at Kurofune*) but I also like the style. The variation is very subtle, just the button patterns on the front/chest, but I like the base outfits themselves and the gloves, so it’s a pass.
9/10
All For Tomorrow (Million Yell)
I LOVEEE THESE OUTFITS!!! These are everything I look for in a group meant to be a group. (Also Sayaka Ono art makes it *mwah* 😘 for me, this pic is my Home Screen so I can stare at them) DearDream’s base is white and gold while Kurofune’s is black and gold (as per usual). I didn’t hate the pastel rainbow blocks in Candy Block series that is DFes’s iconic look, but you know I would prefer a basic color as a base over patterns.
Everyone’s outfits are styled differently if you look hard enough but at a glance, you can tell they are a team. (Points up for making Kanade&Shin and Junya&Itsuki match. 🤫)
The outfits must be a nightmare for cosplayers for being so asymmetrical, but I’m just here to look, not to make. I think Chizu’s side thing is a little (?) in design choice but whatever. Keigo and Yuto looking cool and suave in their own way but still match DD.

Ranking my Monster High Collection, just because
I've been into Monster High for...a while. I don't remember how I got into it, but I know that I immediately latched onto Lagoona; I always go for the blue characters (except for TMNT, because Donnie). Though it's not huge compared to what others have, I do have a sizable collection of Monster High dolls. Here, I'll rank and discuss them.
Here's a key for the meaning of the colors: birthday/Christmas gift, bought during initial sales, bought second-hand.
~
S Tier - The Best of the Best
Boo-Riginal Creeproduction Lagoona - I'd always wanted a first-wave Lagoona, but this is even better! Her hair is curly and fluffy, she isn't derp-eyed, and I didn't have to fork over hundreds of dollars for her! There are so many cool details scattered throughout her design, too. For example, her tank top? That's actually a one-piece swimsuit. And her shorts are sparkly! I was lucky to find her and the other creepros at my local Walmart during the initial drop. Wish I could say the same about Reel Drama...
Haunt Couture Lagoona - Man, was I lucky with this one! She sold out in about six minutes, from what I heard. But anyway, people don't like her because she doesn't reference her basic look as much as the others, and I get why they feel that way. However, I feel like she looks the most "deluxe" of the HC line (except for Draculaura, because OF COURSE), and the most couture-like. Her outfit is the only one I could see on an actual fashion runway. And her face is super pretty! I like how they gave her eyes a more segmented look instead of the other ghouls' gradient shine. Oh, and her fish GLOWS IN THE DARK.
Boo-riginal Creeproduction Clawdeen - I'm not particularly attached to Clawdeen as a character, but her design? Beautiful. There are so many flashy elements--the tank top with its sparkly tiger stripes, the fur-lined jacket, the layered skirt, the knee-high stockings--that you'd think would clash, but they really work well together. And like Lagoona, Creepro Clawdeen has wavier, fluffier hair than her 2010 counterpart. Perfect for our "werewolf equivalent of Rapunzel."
School's Out Lagoona - I adore the shoes and tote bag. The material they're made of is super satisfying to touch. The outfit itself is amazing, too. The asymmetrical fishnet details really complement the strapless jumpsuit. It feels fancy and hip, but still Lagoona-like. And the fish skeleton earrings are just amazing!!!
Isi Dawndancer - From what I've heard, Isi is controversial because Mattel combined elements from a ton of different tribes to construct her without consulting any actual American Indians, homogenizing/stereotyping them in the process. I can't say that I have much room to speak on the matter, just that I definitely get why people find her offensive. But good gosh, I can't help but love how colorful she is. And her deer-like features, like her white freckles and her hooves (yes, actual hooves instead of feet!!!)? Absolutely amazing. If she comes back for G3, I hope they handle her more respectfully.
C.A. Cupid (Signature) - Beautiful in every way. Her face? Amazing. The heart-shaped highlights in her eyes are super cool, her heart/rosebud-shaped lipstick really stands out, and the blush on her cheeks is a great touch. Her outfit? Spectacular. All of the fabrics work well to give her dress an eerie yet romantic vibe. Her accessories? Perfect. It's bow-and-arrow everything; her earrings and the heels on her shoes are an asymmetrical bow/arrow set, and her ring is a miniature bow and arrow. Her hair? Needs de-gluing and restyling, but it's still lovely. Shorter hair on Monster High dolls is always awesome. She also has this really cool white-to-black gradient on all of her limbs, plus some lacy detailing. You just need to see her to believe her.
Boo-riginal Creeproduction Draculaura - Pink isn't really my thing, but I can't deny that Draculaura looks cool. Her vest and her cravat are probably my favorite parts of her outfit. I also like how neatly folded her skirt is, compared to Clawdeen's more irregular pleats. Oh, and I de-glued her bangs when I got her, and she looks SO much better that way!
~
A Tier - The Clawsomes
Mad Science Lagoona - Her hair was an absolute mess when I first got her--tangled beyond belief, glue everywhere, braids partially undone... But I've done my best to restore her, and I think she looks better now. I just love her in general. Both her dress and her casual outfit look cute, and the accessories are on point. She has a notebook, a pencil, a beaker, one of those three-eyed frogs from the webisodes, and a gargoyle egg, among other things.
Dead Tired Lagoona (2011) - Yes, I've got the Hydration Station, too. Yes, it's amazing...when it works. I think I might need to replace the batteries and/or clean it. (Any tips? I'll take all the help I can get!!) But right now, I'm talking about Lagoona herself. She may be simple, but she's great. Her blue lips really do feel like her natural lip color, and her ponytail is a nice hairstyle. Her pajamas look really comfy, too (minus the platform slippers, but that's just MH custom), and she even has a matching sleep mask. I'd wear them myself if I were more of a tank top person. Neptuna has a little mask of her own as well. That's just cute. :)
Boo-riginal Creeproduction Frankie - Pretty simple, but also super cute. I love her fishnet sleeves and her belt. G1 Frankie really is the epitome of "simple, but effective."
Skull Shores Cleo - What can I say? I'm a sucker for turquoise and gold. I like short hair on Cleo, too. Oh, and her shoes being little statues holding her feet up? Absolute genius.
Skull Shores Ghoulia - She looks just like she stepped out of the 1950s...except for the blood dripping from her shoes and bracelet, of course, but that contrast is why I love a lot of Ghoulia's designs. Her weird little brain butterfly hair clip is neat, too, and I like how she has green glasses this time around.
Skull Shores Lagoona - Her headband gives me pirate vibes for some reason, and that sparkly fabric around her shoulders never ceases to amaze. Needless to say, I love her.
Skull Shores Frankie (Color) - Frankie in neon blue is awesome. Frankie with short hair is awesome. The industrial nut-themed accessories are awesome. That sounds like a recipe for an awesome doll to me.
Skull Shores Frankie (Monochrome) - The silver lipstick, neck bolts, and swimsuit add some flash where Frankie herself is a matte gray. There are also more obvious clouds on her waist wrap compared to her color variant, adding a bit of additional uniqueness. I just happen to like the color variant a bit more. I think it's because the accessories here are cloudy instead of clear.
~
B Tier - The Greats
Dot Dead Gorgeous Lagoona - Hot take: I think DDG Lagoona is better than DOTD Lagoona. But that's a ramble for another post. Anyway, the oyster-themed hair clip and shoes are cute, and I love how the polka dots on the dress are bubbles. The layers of mesh/tulle/whatever really pull the whole look together. And the purse is a sand dollar!!!
13 Wishes Lagoona - Super strange and kind of heartbreaking, but also super cool to look at. I love her turtle necklace/bracelet, her dragonfly earrings, and her grass shoes. And that sparkly seafoam green fabric on her dress? Absolutely perfect! It looks just like shimmering water. She'd be higher up if she were in better condition; her dress is kinda stretched out, and Neptuna's bowl is shoddily taped together because I was a dumb child.
Fearidescent Lagoona - Blue Lagoona > Pink Lagoona for me, and the polypropylene hair is a bit frizzy at the ends. That said, she's still beautiful. For one, her color scheme is gorgeous. It's one of the first color palettes chosen for G3 Lagoona that doesn't make me want to tear my eyeballs out. Her pearl purse is cute, too, as are her shoes. I mean, her ankle boots have little teeth in the heels and fish skeletons as the buckles! Some clothing combinations are more cohesive than others, but again, not making me want to claw out my own eyes out of overstimulation is a huge advantage for a G3 Lagoona doll.
Skull Shores Gil - I know people give the boy dolls major flak for being ugly, and a lot of times, they're right (looking at you, Porter and Slo Mo). But I just think Gil's neat. I like how he has gills sculpted into his nose. I like the gills on his neck. I like how he has that same pearlescent kind of coloration as Lagoona. I like his fin mohawk thing. I think my Gil's face turned out nicely, too, with no notable wonk in sight. (Note: someone on Reddit recently pointed out that he has a back fin, too. That cements Gil as the best manster in my opinion.)
Picture Day Lagoona - Like Basic Clawdeen, she has a lot of bright, flashy components that you'd think would clash. Fishnet cardigan? Shimmery pink leggings? Turquoise tunic dress with a neon green trim and an iridescent orange seashell bra? It is admittedly a strange look, but I like it.
Skulltimate Secrets Lagoona - The darker/more prominent forehead scales push SS1 Lagoona below Fearidescent for me, but there's still a ton to love about her. Her jacket and hat are some of my favorite accessories in my entire collection; they're just so cute! Her blue "Surf" shirt is great as well, and I feel that all of the clothing pieces included here can create decently good-looking outfits.
Skull Shores Draculaura - Just cute. I love the sailor theme, and I love how her swimsuit kind of looks like men's swimsuits from back in the late 19th century.
Skull Shores Abbey - Her swimsuit may be a bit simple for my liking, but her accessories are astounding! Purple ice shoes? Yes! Purple ice hat? Heck yeah! She rocks the side-ponytail, too.
Skull Shores Clawdeen - I love the actual swimsuit, and the poncho is great in concept. I just wish the poncho wasn't so annoying to move around for poses. But Clawdeen's tried-and-true deep orchid purple + neon green color combo is back, and I think it works amazingly here. Her earrings are cool, too. They may just be simple triangles and squares, but it's a neat deviation from her typical hoop earrings.
~
C Tier - The Goods Competing with the Greats
Original Ghouls Ghoulia - Not first-wave quality, but she still has her good points. Her hair is nice and silky (probably kanekalon), all her accessories are intact, and I honestly like her face better than first-wave Ghoulia. Still, her clothes all being one piece is a let-down, and they didn't even bother to wrap her cherry-print top (printed on this time, by the way) all the way around the shirt. But she's still Ghoulia, so she's still cool.
Dance Class Lagoona - She's cute, but also very simplistic. Even as a kid, I knew something was off about her unpainted accessories. Even so, I love her, and I retain a special attachment to her since she was the first member of my collection.
Inner Monster (Shockingly Shy/Scared Silly) - I like the take apart/put together gimmick. I like the changing eyes and the face plates. I like the skeleton and the different charms you can attach to it. I just wish she was more monstrous...and that the wig didn't look so awful.
Original Ghouls Lagoona - I got her back when I thought she was the closest I'd get to an actual Basic Lagoona, and even though my opinion of her has hardened a bit after getting Creepro Lagoona, I still think she's okay. I don't like how her swimsuit and shorts are sewn together, but at least there's a ribbon "waistband" separating the two halves. Her hoodie might be slightly less detailed, too, but it's still perfectly fine. Mad Science Lagoona is borrowing her fins, though.
~
D Tier - Mattel, why?
Original Ghouls Clawdeen - Her face turned out okay...but that's really it. Her shoes are completely purple aside from the buckles, her shirt and skirt are sewn together, and her jacket has purple thread at the edges instead of an actual cotton trim. And that isn't even getting into the more minute changes. At least she isn't as bad as Original Ghouls Draculaura, but that's a low bar to clear. ...Yet I don't hate her. Pity, yes, but I just can't hate her.
