Hey there lovelies, I hope your Monday started your week off well <3 As I'm sitting here typing this I have my son asleep under one arm, so I apologize if this is a bit scattered. I saw this infographic today and it made me think of you all. I don't know about you, but I spent a lot of my life thinking I had to do everything, excel at everything, have all the money, and the car, and the house, and the kids, etc. But you know what? Life isn't about having everything. It's about finding the things you love and matter most to you and focusing on them. The things that matter most to me will absolutely be different from everyone else (we may share some of the same) but no two people are exactly the same when it comes to interests, and thats beautiful. Dig deep into the things you love crew, and remember you don't have to feel any shame for the things that mean the most to you. Do you like video games? Or Ornithology? How about fanfiction? Or maybe Indy 500 races? Do you find joy when you're alone in the woods? Or sitting out with friends at a bar? Do you enjoy being alone? Or maybe you love to sing your heart out at karaoke? Whatever it is you love-- embrace it, whether it's "Weird" by someone else's standards or not. If it makes you smile, if it makes you enjoy your time on this little blue dot-- dive in lovelies, with no regrets. I decided that I was going to have some ice cream after breakfast today. Why? Idk cause this weeks been crazy and ice cream sounded good.

August Newsletter: Back From Comic Con

Hi everyone! And welcome to everyone who signed up for my newsletter at San Diego Comic Con. It was fun to see a San Diego Comic Con where comics were the focus again.  If you're new here I'm making these comics:

Blue Moon is a werewolf romance gn I'm writing and Meredith McClarren is going to draw. I'm late on its script. 

The City Between is my webcomic about werewolves in the future. It updates Wednesdays. The current story is called Shards of Reflection. 

You are the Chosen One is a fantasy comic about 23 kids who got the same prophecy dream. It was posting on Fridays on my Patreon. But my editorial work has been piling up/overwhelming me lately. So it's on hold until I finish up some other stuff. 

My day job is an editor at the manga company Seven Seas and the indie comic publisher Iron Circus Comics. I like folklore, fantasy, and especially like werewolves. 

This month I'm making tweaks to my website. So we finished some more minor switches like adding more social media buttons to the top bar. But this month we are gonna revamp the store section. Speaking of the store, Misfits of Avalon volume 1 is out of print. I just sent the last ten copies to White Squirrel who handles my store fulfillment. I'm not gonna sell it at cons anymore. In about a year or so, I'll probably talk to Darkhorse about putting it back online and printing an omnibus. 

This month's werewolf movie is The Howling 2. I'm showing it in my discord server August 30th at 5pm PST. Pop in to join if you like!   

As always I'll be streaming art on Twitch. My schedule is currently the following:

Tuesday 8pm-10pm PST

Wednesday 8pm-10pm PST

Thursday 6pm-9pm PST (during the Iron Circus Geekshow)

On August 24th, we'll have Tracy Butler of Lackadaisy Cats on Iron Circus Geekshow as a guest to close out the wildly successful Iron Circus crowdfund for Lackadaisy Season 1.

So last month I was too wiped to post photos of going to the Del Tor that I went to in June. But I sat down and put them in a drive that anyone can browse. So have a look if you wanna see some of the puppets used in the Pinnocino movie. 

While I was at San Diego Comic Con, I went to a Junji Ito exhibit. It was very cool seeing his originals. I always think its cool to see how different artists end up using white out or what needs correcting. All the photos I took during SDCC are also in a drive for you to browse. 

If you just want to see cosplayers though and not horror art I posted cosplay photos on my instagram.

As for what I'm working on, I'm still playing catch up on stuff from shake ups at Iron Circus Comics. So I'm officially putting You are the Chosen One on hold until I have Blue Moon scripted. I might put it on hold longer because I realize I'm almost half way through Shards of Reflection and haven't finished the next City Between stories's script. I'm pretty sure more people read/are interested in The City Between than You are the Chosen One. So it's got to take priority. 

Some time this month I need to find time to clean up Murky Water. It got it's first proofreading pass and I need to fix text. Then I need to start building a crowdfund for it and decide when and where to run it. Iron Circus has been having good luck with Backerkit, but it's back end is overly complicated in my opinion. Meanwhile, I said last year that I probably wasn't gonna use Kickstarter again because of them moving to the blockchain. They have kinda walked that back, but not 100%. Either this month or next, I'll type something up and ask what you all think of both platforms. 

With all this on my plate, I haven't had much time to check out new stuff. Plus with the writers/actor strike, I don't want to promo any TV or Movies I've been watching. The makes my what I've been checking out section pretty focused/brief. 

I started reading Berserk. 

And it's really really good.

If you are unfamiliar with Berserk, it's a classic manga/anime. And about a year ago it's creator, Kentaro Miura, died. Since then more and more people online have been giving it new attention and encouraged people to sit down and read it. The youtuber Super Eyepatch Wolf had a video that got me interested, Then FD Signifier brought it up in his videoessay about masculinity and anime. And then War Rocket Ajax reviewed it on Comic Catch up. So I pulled the trigger and read a big chunk of it. 

And like I said, it's really really. It's extremely violent and frequently indulges in edge lord levels of grim dark. So skip it if you don't like extreme violence. But there is some beautiful character moments that are all the more touching because they contrast the violence. 

It's just some really good comic storytelling.

I love this so much, bc there are people on here who believe that not only was Fiona NOT the favorite, but the favorite was instead Sasha. And from what has been pointed out here, one could definitely see how that could be the case even when it's confirmed that Fiona was the favorite.

Ok ok ok, here's my lil theory on that:

I think Felix chose Fiona as the favorite, not necessarily bc she was the favored child of the two, but more to be his eventual successor. Everything is a lesson for Fiona, a teaching moment, something she needs to learn from or else. I feel like he's trying to shape her into a role he feels most comfortable is suited for their current and possible future lifestyle. Now I think he wanted good for them, I believe he wanted both sisters to eventually break free and live happily off of Pandora. Hence why he leaves them with nine million dollars towards the end of the game. So they can finally get off the planet and start a better life somewhere else. Like they had talked about before

But it's also good to remember that Felix himself was flawed. Esp in the way he handled things. Like you've got a ten million dollar deal with Hyperion (through August, who Sasha's had to cozy up with for who knows how long, at least months probably just to gain August's trust), and you're finishing up your fake vault key the DAY OF this epic con?? Sir... 🤦🏽‍♀️ also. Couldn't he tell the sisters, who are known to be fine actresses when the need arises, "hey someone dangerous is after me so can you guys pretend to be shocked and dismayed when I "betray you" to keep you safe? Thanks" like can you get ahold of yourself sir? Do you need help? 🤨 smh

So with these "lessons" he's giving Fiona and the gifts he gave them, his intentions behind the reasons why are obscure in the way that while yes, he's a mentor and maybe even a father figure of sorts to the girls, this man is also a few screws loose in the caboose iykwim. He's doing what he believes is best for each of them, even if that's not actually what is best for each of them.

I'm rambling (as I usually do on comma-tose's posts oops, sorry op 😅🤭-), so I'll just end this by saying: where tf is Felix now? Like if he went into hiding and made a big show of burning bridges with his two teammates/daughters, bc Vallory was gunning for him... well, she's dead now. Who else is he hiding from? Why doesn't he reunite with the girls? (I guess technically he could if you pick him as a vault hunting companion at the end of the game in the Traveler fight but like... that's one possibility of many in canon?) Like homie really pulled a "I'm gonna go get milk, brb" and was just never seen again 🫤

Absentee father? 👀🤷🏽‍♀️ but at least he left them nine million dollars, so that's nice 💰😆🤭

I think the whole thing about Fiona being Felix's favourite is really interesting solely because from her perspective she wasn't. Like at all.

When Felix betrays them and steals the money not only does he talk to her as if this is a lesson he's teaching her, saying that this is the only way to make her understand not to trust anyone, but the last thing he tells her to do is to take care of Sasha. Not to look after herself or to stay safe, but to protect Sasha.

It's also especially interesting with the gifts he gives both of them. Now obviously gifts aren't equivalent to love but the intentions behind it do matter. His gift to Sasha was freedom from harm and from the worst kind of consequence (death), his gift to Fiona was limitations, endangerment, and being forced to stick to his teachings.

Both of Fiona's gifts are a lesson, literally restricting what she can do and putting her at risk so that she sticks by Felix's teaching that she can always talk her way out of more situations than she can shoot her way out of.

He gives her a sleeve pistol sure but he only gives her a single bullet, and then later on when they find his stash she gets an elemental upgrade to the gun and one more bullet. But the upgrade is rigged to burn out after each shot, increasing the risk that Fiona will just get killed by any of the bandits or creatures roaming Pandora. Athena is the one who has to give Fiona bullets and to modify the gun, to remove the elemental burnout which was intentionally added by Felix as "training wheels", despite the fact Fiona has always been a better shot than Sasha, as said by Sasha herself.

And then you get to what he gives Sasha, while at first both Fiona and Sasha think it's just a sentimental pocket watch, it gets revealed that it's literally built to bring Sasha back from the brink of DEATH. And if you go by Debt or Alive, it's a watch containing an ancient alien crystal (god knows where he got that), that is supposed to repeatedly heal any injury Sasha gets and bring her back to life if she dies.

His gift to Fiona was a gun with two bullets that he intentionally rigged to burn out to "teach her" to not use it too much (on Pandora of all places???), and his gift to Sasha was the cure to death itself. No matter how grateful Fiona was that Sasha had that when she needed it there must've been some moment where she realised the difference in the gifts they were given and it probably didn't make her feel great.

Something else interesting is when Vallory says that Fiona was Felix's favourite. Both her and Sasha look shocked. Now I don't think that's because either of them assumed Sasha was the favourite or anything, just more that they had no idea that Fiona was supposedly favoured by him. And why would they? I made a post on here a while back about how Fiona is the only one with a bounty in that family, and that she's the one taking the blame for things more. So considering how she's put in that position why would they ever assume she was the favourite?

He seems to treat them both very differently, with him pushing responsibility onto Fiona, putting her in a position where she is made responsible for taking care of Sasha and prioritising her, with his gifts being lessons that endanger Fiona's life when they're rigged to fail. And his treatment of Sasha being more protective, rushing out of the caravan to get to her when the deal goes wrong leading to him getting shot, making sure she has someone taking care of her, and giving her the ability to defy death and just walk off any injury.

That's not to say he didn't love them both because he did, even if some of the stuff he did was dumb as hell. But I think it raises the question of whether Fiona was the favourite because he loved her more or because she was just the one he thought could take more responsibility and didn't need protecting as much. Someone he didn't have to treat like the child they were as much.

Bearing in mind this isn't to argue that she wasn't the favourite because she was, that much was confirmed by both Felix and Vallory. It's more that I doubt Fiona believes that she is, who would after all that?

My goddaughter. She turned one and I couldn't be there because of covid. I saw her for the first time in more than two months last week and it was really hard because I couldn't approach her or pick her up. She kept raising her arms toward me and trying to give me stuffs, but I had to say no everytime, it was heartbreaking for me.

I went to two cons, one for supernatural and one for teen wolf. The most memorable one were Misha, Mark Sheppard, Tyler Hoechlin and Matt Cohen (he gave me three hugs throu the day and offered me chocolates, that man is the sweetest). I also ran away when I was seven to go see my favorite singer. He ended up calling the cops lol.

If you could go to any concert right now, what would it be?

Same as the others, I'll trade a concert for a con with J2M.

Something you're looking forward too?

That damn virus crisis to be over. Also, moving back closer to my friends and family in August.

I'll probably make an offer on my dream house Thrusday so I'm nervous about the owners chosing me (he has 3 offers), the bank accepting my loan and pretty much everything anout the whole thing.
