I’m curious how you think Jayce and Viktor’s romantic/sexual relationship most likely unfolded within the context of the two Arcane seasons. Do you think it would have looked something like the trajectory from Distinguished Innovators or were they just pining for each other but entirely oblivious of the other person's feelings until the very end (especially with what you said at some point about the possibility of Mel being Jayce’s first)
Hmm, so there's fanfic and canon to consider here. I think with fanfic, it can be anything the author desires.
Technically, I think the most canon-accurate romantic read of what's happening on the page is that Jayce and Viktor have feelings for each other but neither is totally aware of their feelings until Jayce has his moment staring into the fire in 2.07 when he "chooses" Viktor. Then Jayce basically confesses during their big final scene and we get a lot of hints that Viktor has felt the same way or been silently and hopelessly pining for him and now they're finally together.
But that never quite works for me because it requires a little too much "carrying the idiot ball" like... these guys spent the entire time skip between 1.03-1.04 in close quarters at all hours of the day creating Hextech together. That's before Jayce becomes the "Man of Progress" or any of that stuff and was just a regular and possibly crazy researcher who almost got banished, so it can't always be a status difference. And Jayce is so affectionate, and he falls for Mel so quickly, I really truly struggle to imagine that with no barriers to a relationship (Runeterra canonically does not have homophobia) they wouldn't have gotten together sooner if something else wasn't in the way.
So, personally, I think that they've tried to or come very close to a relationship in the past, but something prevented them from going all the way and now it's that near-miss is still there in their physicality with one another, and both might still long for it, but one of them is holding it back from happening while the other just thinks it's hopeless and I honestly think after S2 it's Viktor holding back because of his declining health, while Jayce is the one thinking he hasn't got a shot so he might as well, tragically, look elsewhere.
And I'll go into a bit more detail on why I believe that for a romantic read of these two:
(Obviously you can just go the boring old "cuz they're not romantic" but I think that's dull and reductive and presumably not why anyone is the Jayvik tag)
I also don't totally buy the idea that they hadn't figured it out yet? These are two young men in their 20s, who basically instantly connect with one another, share everything, and are openly physically affectionate with each other from the first. In my fic Distinguished Innovators there's a certain amount of shyness and the fact they're just busy to deal with but they're still young men, it's why the fic postulates a physical relationship between them that isn't exclusive or official and thus doesn't change their status as "partners".
But in fics of mine like Parley I first floated another possibility that with time I find more convincing argument: Viktor knows he doesn't have long to live, so he's resolved to keep a certain distance from Jayce and not interfere with any sort of love life he might have (even if it destroys him with jealousy) because he doesn't want Jayce to be totally destroyed by his death, which given how openly affectionate Jayce is, seems inevitable.
This one works for me increasingly because it means the characters don't need to carry the idiot ball. Viktor can have his own strong reasons for not wanting to involve Jayce in that kind of relationship and Jayce can read that Viktor doesn't want to be involved with him in that way, and maybe they even got close and he was pushed back, and he's just respecting that now because he's just happy to have his soulmate in his life in any way he can have him (which I truly sincerely believe is a canonically supported read of Jayce no matter how romantic you see their relationship).
Then the tricky thing about a disease like that is... how much time does he actually have? If it's months, he should focus on leaving a legacy, which Viktor does. If it's years, in theory, they could work on a cure for him, but what if that doesn't work? Then you run into the tragedy of the longer he lives, the more he comes to regret not being with Jayce anyway. Then there's the question of a Hextech cure. I can see Viktor resolving to himself that if he's ever cured, then he'll confess to Jayce. Which feels all but impossible at the end of S1 when Sky dies, but then in 2.08, in the Council chamber scene, it really feels like Viktor finally feels like he's allowed to openly pursue Jayce because he's "perfect" now, and that to me is a linchpin of the idea that Viktor was holding himself back from pursuing Jayce openly because of his health.
Oh and I still think it's possible that Mel is Jayce's first as a result, or very near his first if him and Viktor maybe fooled around a bit or if Jayce had other relationships before that. But there is something very innocent in the way Jayce approaches sleeping with Mel that to me feels very much like he's had only a couple partners or fewer at the very least, if he hasn't been outright "saving himself for marriage" levels of hoping Viktor will notice him someday, which is my Jayvik romantic read of that moment he pauses before returning Mel's kiss, he's thinking, "Do I realistically have a shot with Viktor?" and concluding sadly that, no, he doesn't so he might as well stop denying himself a possible relationship over it anymore.

Congratulations on reaching 2k! Every bit deserved your writing and characterization is always so amazing 🫶🏼
For the event, Could I request a Drabble of rivals/ crushes snowed in with Ekko with a she/her reader? (Possible accidental confession perhaps?)
I need more ekko content in my life 🥹 Ekko presents tough but he’s such a sweet lover boy!
Thank you for this event! And thank you for blessing us with your writing 💖
tysm!! i’m always so happy to hear the characters sound like themselves 😭 i hope you enjoy the drabble!
warnings: spoilers for s2 despite this being a modern au, grieving, mentions of jayvik, fem!reader
Professor Heimerdinger had been a phenomenal professor. You were thankful to have made it in to every one of his lectures in your college career. He had always been a spontaneous character, treating his students like family.
After his funeral, you weren’t too surprised when Ekko appeared. You both had been gunning for the top grades in classes, the most genius designs, the greater anything. He was a worthy opponent, taking his defeats in a respectable manner. When he won, you’d have to suffer one of those insufferable smirks and a tick of his eyebrow but you had come to enjoy them.
You’re not sure when the jealousy of his mind had turned to attraction.
He was well dressed for the ceremony, all suit and tie and raw eyes. You wanted to hold him, but you settled for a gentle hand on his shoulder.
“Left a letter to us,” he said, holding up an envelope.
“Heimerdinger did love dramatics,” you joked, stepping closer as paper unfolded. For this you let your head fall to his shoulder, feeling as much as ewing the shake in his hands. You helped steady it.
“Can you…”
“Of course,” you whispered, clearing your throat and reading it aloud. You were teary-eyed by the second sentence.
The letter detailed how proud he was of you and Ekko and that he was sorry to leave the world before he saw both of you graduate. He’d never married or had a family, but he considered the two of you his own. He also asked if one of you would care for his cat, Poro, until a proper home was found.
“I’ve been taking care of him,” Ekko said. “I don’t have the room in my apartment so I’ve been spending time at Heimerdinger’s place. Helped Jayce and Viktor clean some stuff out.”
Another generation of assistants and protégés. They were married, too.
“Could you take him for a bit? He’s a good cat,” Ekko promised.
“Of course,” you said. “I’ll go grab him now.”
“I’ll go with you. I have some stuff I need to grab.”
That was exactly how you ended up snowed in at Heimerdinger’s residence with your rival and crush, Ekko, and Poro the cat skirting your feet.
“This feels like one of his schemes,” you chuckled as Ekko got the fireplace in the living room going. “Remember when he locked us in the lab until we stopped fighting?”
“He forgot about us until the next morning,” Ekko finished, smiling over his shoulder.
You giggled, reaching down to pull the cat into your arms. “I can still feel the crick in my neck from falling asleep at the desk.”
“It worked, though.” Ekko settled back on the carpet as the fire roared to life. “We got along a bit better after that.”
“We respected each other,” you chuckled. “I had to after you picked the lock.”
He shrugged. “I’m a man of many talents.”
Sitting down beside him, you both basked in the warm glow, shoulder to shoulder. The sound of the wind outside alongside the crackling wood calmed the nerves of being so close to him, well almost.
“He’s well behaved around girls,” Ekko said, looking to Poro in your lap. The car purred, raising his head as a strong hand ran over his back. “He hates Viktor. I think Heimerdinger mentioned something about a laser?”
“Like a toy laser?”
Ekko shrugged. “Either way he’s a lot more careful around guys, but he’s warmed up to me over the years.”
Yeah, you thought, who wouldn’t?
“I’d like to keep him,” you murmured, scratching under his whiskers. “Just have to figure some things out first. I’ll manage it.”
“I can help,” Ekko offered.
You shook your head. “You’ve already done so much. Let me.”
“I love the little troublemaker too.”
“Then you can visit him.”
“Yeah?” His eyes glinted as he looked at you.
“Yeah,” you agreed, heart thundering. His shoulder nudged yours, sending sparks down your shoulder and into your stomach.
“Only him?”
Your breath caught. For being the top of your class, you sure went brain dead by a simple question.
“Sorry,” he muttered, looking away. “I just…”
“No,” you said, “I mean, yes you can visit. Not just for the cat. Don’t apologize.”
“If you were uncomfortable—”
You shook your head, grabbing his arm. “I’m not. Just nervous, surprised…”
“Surprised?” he huffed, the start of a smile on his lips.
“What? I don’t know,” you scrambled, feeling too hot. Poro stretched before walking away, leaving you to die of your embarrassment.
“I’ve been crushing on you for a while,” he chuckled, “I thought you noticed.”
“I’m a genius in school, Ekko, not,” you gestured haphazardly between you, “this.”
He busted out laughing. You tumbled into it with him, the sound far too contagious.
“First the lab, now his house,” Ekko sighed later on, the two of you leaning against one another on the couch. “This does feel like Heimerdinger’s doing.”
It did. One day you’d have to thank him for bringing you together.

Didn't We Almost Have It All?
JAYCE TALIS X OC
DWAHIA masterlist / Ch1
Synopsis:Celeste Carson didn't intend on doing anything at the Academy besides pursuing her career in psychology. But one thing leads to another, and soon Celeste is working with Jayce and Viktor on Hextech.
Content Warnings: angst (hurt/no comfort), unrequited love(???), implied childhood friends, slow burn, slightly canon divergent... but pretty much consitant, oc x canon, very little fluff, no happy ending for anybody, did I mention it's gonna be angsty?, possible smut.
Chapter spesific warnings: flirting [even though the other person is unaware of it], PLAINLY BLATENT FEELINGS BUT THEY'RE BOTH SO SO SO STUPID TO IT, Jealousy, hinted MelJay, ONE Jayvik joke cuz I like to think I'm funny
A/N: This chapter is pretty much all the in-between stuff with the HexCrew before Progress Day. Almost like a series of one-shots is compiled into a chapter. It's probably out of character, but I'm gonna give y'all some fluff before shit gets serious XD

PLAYLIST FOR STORY :)
°~☆~°
I Used to Shine Like Gold
Timeline Placement: between S1EP3 and EP4
The HexCrew was EXSHAUSTED as they all stood side by side as they all stare at the same equation. Apparently they'd all planted it into their brains that nobody was able to leave until this damn equation was solved.
Celeste squinted at the board, groaning before she goes to her desk and grabs her glasses. She sets them on her face and resumes her main position. Jayce looks out of the corner of his eye to see her put her glasses on. He always liked how she looked with glasses. He thought it made her look pretty... Don't get him wrong. She's already goregous. But her glasses put emphasis on her eyes. He never told her this of course. He didn't want to make things awkward with them.
"This is ridiculous." Celeste offically says, hands on her hips. "Our COMBINED iq is at LEAST 400! How can NONE of us figure this out?!"
Viktor hums in response. "Are we overthinking this?" The Czech accent was a bit thicker with his exshaustion.
"I feel like we probably are." Celeste says, lifting her glasses and pinching the bridge of her nose.
"Look, maybe if we just... take a step back and-" Jayce starts. Celeste and Viktor respond together, completely in-sync.
"We tried that already, remember?" Jayce winces slightly as he remembers how they'd all tried to take a step back from the assignment... oh what a poor idea that was.
"Right... wasn't a good idea." Jayce says with a breathy chuckle. The three go silent again and stare at the board, trying to wrap their brains around the equation in front of them.
This was around the time Mel would stroll in and see what the trio was up to. When she came into the lab today, she almost found the three's position laughable. She silently and flawlessly moves her way behind them.
"What ar-" Mel starts, but is cut off by Celeste shushing her. Mel chuckles softly, looking at what they're looking at. "Why are we shushing?" Mel whispers to Jayce.
"We've been trying to get this thing solved now for HOURS." Celeste responds. Mel cocks an eyebrow and blinks a few times.
"... guys... that's 8 × 8...." Mel says. The HexCrew hums in response. Mel blinks at them a few times again.
Celeste goes to the coffee machine. Jayce follows after her taking the mug and moving it away from her. "Cee... no."
"Cee YES." Celeste corrects, standing on her tiptoes to get the mug back. The two squabble about if Celeste needs more coffee (which if you ask Celeste... she TOTALLY does) and Viktor stays still, reading the equation over and over again.
Jayce and Celeste (who was coffee-less) stood back at the board with Viktor. "I think it's time for the scientists to sleep." Mel says, laughing softly, her hand moving to Jayce's shoulder-blades as she tries to guide him out out of the room. Celeste feels a peculiar feeling pool in her belly. She was annoyed with Mel's gesture... but didn't have a valid reason why. Was it jealousy perhaps? No, that doesn't make sense.
Celeste doesn't say anything about it, but instead politely moves her hand off of Jayce without really thinking about it. "Probably." Celeste says, with a bit more maliciousness than she'd intended. When Mel's face contorts into confusion and a bit of annoyance, Celeste blushes softly and mumbles a "Sorry, councilor" and they all make their way out of the lab. When Jayce locks the door, his head pops up.
"64!" He says, way too excitedly. "The awnser is 64." They all blink at each other, then their palms make contact with their foreheads in sync.
°~☆~°
Celeste sat on the floor of the lab with a cup of instant noodles placed on the ground between her legs. Fork in one hand, pen in the other, she wrote things down as she ate. Jayce, who was sitting next to her in a chair, looks down at the girl and raises an eyebrow.
"Celeste... you DO realize you have a desk, right?" He says. He didn't mind she was sitting by him. In fact, he actually enjoyed it. He liked that she naturally gravitated to him. Now all she needed to do was take the hint that he was into her, and BAM.
"I know." Celeste says. "I just needed a change of pace, I suppose." She says. Jayce nods, chuckling softly. He absentmindedly fiddles with a piece of her hair. Celeste blushes a bit, but doesn't say anything. Viktor had been out for today. Why? ... Huh... Celeste didn't remember. She shook it out of her head and tried to focus on her work... which was REALLY hard all of a sudden to focus on for some reason.
Celeste, without much thought, leans her head against his thigh as she works. The two just work in silence, both bright red in the face at each other's affection towards each other. This went on for a good few hours. Celeste's noodles were long gone when she finally forced herself to get up to throw her trash away. But even then... she resumed her spot onto his thigh. It felt nice. RIGHT dare she say.
°~☆~°
"I'm not... BAD at flirting, right?" Jayce asks Viktor one day. Celeste hadn't been in the lab that day, off doing a psychology test. Viktor raises an eyebrow.
"Jayce, I'm flattered, but you're not my ty-" Viktor starts as a dry joke.
"No no, not you." Jayce says, chuckling softly. Although... not gonna lie, I'm slightly offended at that." He says jokingly. "I meant Celeste. I'm like... being obvious about my feelings, right?"
"I mean, I think it's pretty obvious." Viktor says. "Why do you ask?"
"Cuz it doesn't seem like she sees it." Jayce chuckles as the two work. "I mean, I've consistently flirted with her since I was 17 years old. And yet... here we are almost 10 years later... nothing. Am I doing something wrong??"
"I feel like the only way I'm gonna get her to actually see that I'm in love with her is if I get a big neon sign like 'Hey, dumbass! I'm. In. Love. With You!'." Jayce says. "But even then she'd probably think it was for someone else, then offer to help me ask them out."
"Yep, sounds like Celeste." Viktor says, chuckling under his breath. "For someone almost at her bachelor's degree in psychology, she's not really good with social cues."
"But that's the thing!" Jayce grumbles. "She ALWAYS knows when someone ELSE is flirting with her. But when I do it, she mine as well be out to lunch." He says.
"Can't be enjoyable." Viktor says.
"Nope." Jayce groans. "Plus I feel like Mel's trying to make a move on me on top of it all. And I just- ugh. I don't know."
"You JUST figured this out?" Viktor says, raising an eyebrow at Jayce. Jayce shakes his head softly with a chuckle.
"I just... I feel like I'm just wasting my time with trying to get Celeste to see I like her." He says. "Am I just... wasting my time? Does she even FEEL the same?" He asks Viktor. Viktor chuckles softly.
"I think-" Viktor is cut off by the sound of the door opening.
"BOOYAH!" Celeste says, pumping her first in the air. "Ya girl passed... with FLYING COLORS!" She says excitedly, juttting her hip to the side as she raises her fist in victory. Jayce laughs at Celeste.
"That's AWESOME, holy shit!" Jayce laughs, hugging her tight. This test pretty much confirmed her graduation. She was offically goingto graduate with her bachelor's degree. "I'm so proud of you, Cee!" He says, lifting her up by her waist and twirling her around. Celeste laughs with him, arms around his neck.
"Didn't feel the same" Viktor's ass. He may have only known Celeste personally now for a little under a year, but that girl always shined like gold around Jayce. Celeste DEFINETLY responded to Jayce's flirting and even flirted back. But Jayce was oblivious to it... it was a never-ending cycle that made Viktor want to throw up in his mouth a little bit.
"Congratulations, Celeste." Viktor says as Jayce sets her down.
"Thanks, Viktor." She says, laughing softly. The HexCrew all laugh and talk before going back to their work. They were getting closer and closer to their goals, even attracting the attention of the public. Of course, that's never what any of them were in this for. But it was still nice to know they were doing SOMETHING right.
Celeste looks at all their work, feeling a sense of completion in her life. She was happy. She didn't want ANYTHING to change. This was her little slice of heaven. And, hopefully, it'd stay that way.
