a kinda funny kinda sweet thing that's happened since i got insane over botw/totk is that i keep seeing authors i know from other fandoms popping up in the ao3 tag and idk it's just a nice reminder of the community and creativity of fandom spaces :-)

scream. ok so this takes place in my mind post-AOC calamity, so everyone is alive and well and the calamity has been defeated. aoc was not good for much but it sure is good for canon-compliant everyone-lives content. it's shortly after everything has been tied up with the calamity and a good chunk of the surviving hylian soldiers are planning on either retiring or taking extended vacations in the wake of such a long period of war. Link is among them, after several hours of debate with zelda over whether or not she needed him to stay at the castle with her. (she FINALLY got him to agree to go home, but it was a hard-won battle, especially since she doesn't really love the idea of being alone in the castle any more than he does. but she knows he needs to go home and she won't let him sacrifice his mental health for her.) The night before they're all scheduled to depart castle town, they throw a huge going-away party in the soldier's quarters, with drinks and music and dancing and the whole nine yards. Link doesn't particularly enjoy parties like this but he's WAY too high-profile to slip away unnoticed, so he settles for just kind of vibing on the sidelines while the other soldiers get drunk and dance. Zelda, knowing he's leaving the next day, comes down to the soldiers' quarters to say goodbye, not realizing there was a party going on. Link has had like 1 drink (just enough to make him a little more confident. he's turning 18 within a few months anyway, so the other soldiers don't feel too bad about offering.) and has also just come to the realization that he might not see zelda again for a long time, so when a common festival dance song is played he asks her to dance before she leaves the party. cue hilarity as they both realize that shes never danced like this in her life. link thinks this is funny as fuck btw
