#OP I AM 90% SURE YOU HAVE NOT READ THE SILM???????#THIS IS VERY ACCURATE TO BE CLEAR I AM NOT TRYING TO CALL YOU OUT ON ANYTHING DJDHDGDBDDN#this is funny TO ME because i lament CONSTANTLY that the silm would be SO POWERFUL in your artstyle. if Only you were a silm#AM I WRONG?????? AM I SOMEHOW WRONG????????#and if im NOT how do i CONVINCE you#YOU *ARE* THE HOBBIT COMIC PERSON RIGHT?????? like to be clear this is fully and 100% an I Love Your Art thing @nelyoslegalteam ADSDFDF thank you so much, I'm glad you like my art style so much ahhh!!!!!!!!!!!!! ;_; :_: Yes, I am the Hobbit Comic adaptation person and yes I have read the SIlmarillion! ^_^ I read it a long while ago.
Sadly, I'm not a big Silm fan, and usually describe myself as indifferent to it. u_u I'm into Middle Earth stories just for those gay little hobbits and the Silmarillion doesn't have em. Not even one gay little hobbit in the whole thing. Not even one. Sad. I've made a longer slightly more serious post about it a while back, but my general feelings about the Silmarillion are similar to Tolkien's own criticism of the Silmarillion. LOTR is powerful because so much history is only implied, creating the feeling of a grand sweeping world you only see a very small brief slice of from a grounded 'hobbit's-eye-view' ....and the Silmarillion loses something by attempting to bring all of that 'implied history' into the foreground.
Beren and Luthien are cool though. If I draw anyone in the future, it'd probably be them! I like how Beren and Luthien parallel Frodo and Sam; it's almost like reading about gay little hobbits. I also think the fandom is generally more interesting to me than the book itself. My impressions is that it's one of those fandoms that does a lot of "goncharov-ing." It feels like there's a lot of "let's take these two sentences this character appears in and invent an entire personality and fully developed arc around it"-- and I think that's fun! Like Sauron has that evil lady vampire henchman Thuringwethil who shows up in one sentence, and I've seen people inventing a personality for her so that they can femslash ship her with every random Silm female character, and that's great. There's tons of cool Silmarillion art and comics floating around, and sometimes people integrate Silm Lore into LOTR fanfics in cool ways, and that's the kind of stuff I enjoy. But yeah! I've read the Silm, I'm just not very into it-- but thanks again for all your compliments!!! <33
Has read the Silmarillion and enjoyed it: Gandalf, Aragorn, Legolas, Frodo, Sam, Faramir Has read the Silmarillion and hated it: Gimli Hasn't read the Silmarillion: Merry, Pippin, Boromir Has read the Silmarillion, then wrote passionate Silmarillion fanfiction poetry that made Aragorn try to gently explain the dubious ethics of writing RPF about Elrond's dad: Bilbo
#but yeah! mixed feelings on the Silm but im currently just kinda indifferent to it. its fine#and then theres the religious stuff in the Silm which is its whole Thing#I could go on a whole tangent about that but its just a whole thing for me XD#and a big reason why it didn't connect with me emotionally#its a very a subjective personal thing but the Valar and Eru stuff is all way too Narnia for me#like I get that the Silm was tolkien being a lot more self indulgent#and that included being more Catholic On Main#but it was just all too Narnian for me to take#XD#the fandoms fun though!
