watching a tv show on dvd and dealing with all the bullshit you have to put up with before pressing play on an episode is the universe trying to tell you to chill out more. forced boredom time.
#that full forty seconds of the dvd player starting up when you turn it on#and then the unskippable piracy warnings#and the always silly menu intro before it gives you the play button#like honestly it is a test of patience which i WILL pass bc i love dvds ❤️#but also fuck that dvd player is a noisy beast#my post tag

my favourite thing about watching a dvd i own is when it starts with an unskippable ad warning me how bad piracy is for the film industry and then with a second unskippable ad that's like 3 minutes long about the incredible power of bluray

The BBC’s anti-piracy warning is probably the best anti-piracy notice ever.
It doesn’t assume you’re a criminal, it’s entertaining, it’s short, it includes a brief reminder that you can get the content you want legally by asking your cable or other service provider for the BBC, and then it ends by thanking you for your interest in the BBC’s content and hoping you enjoy the show.
Huge difference from the unskippable “YOU WILL GO TO JAIL FOR 99 LIFETIMES AND PAY $5 MILLION TIMES YOUR YEARLY INCOME IF YOU EVEN THINK OF STEALING OUR PROPERTY YOU PUTRID SACK OF MOSTLY WATER” messages we get in the USA.

Buying DVDs just got worse thanks to obnoxious new anti-piracy warnings (pirating movies remains unchanged) #5yrsago
The MPAA and the DHS have teamed up to increase the punishment meted out to people who buy their DVDs instead of downloading the same movies for free from the Internet. Now when you buy a DVD, you'll get twice as many unskippable anti-piracy warnings, including one with a Homeland Security Investigations “special agent” badge next to the FBI badge, as well as a screen telling you that "digital theft harms the economy" and inviting you to visit a taxpayer-funded website that parrots a bunch of unsubstantiated lobbynomics numbers that the MPAA pulled out of its ass.
Only MPAA members are licensed to use these government logos, because other studios are apparently not entitled to a share of whatever imaginary protection the DHS is extending here.
