The Last Stand 19.1🟢
This chapter is hella long, strap in! The next one is coming in 3 days!
“Youve heard anything about him?”
Kallamar said. Gaia nodded. The others perked up and listened to her
“It seems like narinder is trying to garner enough faith to power back up. Fortunately for us, he is weak above ground. Tomorrow. We will settle this, once and for all”
She said. The others agreed…except for Kallamar
“Im not against killing him…but will Shamura be okay if you do that? We don’t want to do anything that will harm their health further”
Gaia sighs.
“Thats why were leaving tomorrow. I have a bad feeling about what he said. Shamura being at death’s door. He knows. We cannot risk Shamura losing their life to a spiteful child!”
Kallamar, against his better judgment, bodded. He needs to pay fir what hea done to this family.
“This time…the lambs will stay behind.”
Leshy gets up
“Why?”
“Because they will DIE if they get killed. Would you like to leave Noelle and Moses in the hands of death himself?!? We avoided that fate for too long to just throw them to the wolves! Also, we need someone to protect Shamura and care for them while were gone. That will be their mission”
Leshy didnt agree, but he couldn’t bear to see Noelle get hurt or worse, taken from him. He relented.
“It is the best decision little brother…”
Heket said. He nodded. Then she turned to Fernilla
“I have a few spare Defense Guards and Heals, come to my Temple before you retire for the night, Fernilla”
“Ah, y-yes!”
She stammered. Leshy took notice of his sister’s change in demeanor, but paid non mind to it.
“When are we leaving?”
Leshy asked.
“We leave first thing when the sun rise, we must catch them off guard. Even if it isnt woth surgical precision, we must get them before there fully alert.”
Gaia said. The others dispersed. This fight was for everything. The Past, their lives, the future of the Clan. Everything was on the line at this point and there was no room for error. Leshy returned to Noelle’s room and told her the news. She was quiet about it. Then took his hand.
“Leshy, please, take care.”
She slips something into his hand. It was a Protection Stone.
“Where did you get this?”
“I bought it from the market while you were away one day. I believe you will need ir”
“Hmph! You think i cannot protect myself?!? I am one of the Strongest bishops in this land! Buuutttt, if it makes you feel safer if i have it, then give it here”
He said as he takes ir. Noelle even asks him to lean down. He obliged, only to be greeted with a small peck on the cheek
“Oh?!?”
“Thats for everything you’ve done for me. Please come home safe”
She wraps her arms around his neck and he hugs her back. He truly wanted to kiss her but he settled with a returned peck on the cheek. He can wait. He was coming back, wasnt he?
Right?

Note: Can be read alone but overlap in the same universe as the other 'A Very Merry Skzmas' stories.
A Very Merry Skzmas Masterlist
"You're joking right?! This is just you guys trying to play a stupid prank on me." Hyunjin got up from his seat at the conference room table. His parents sitting on the other end watching him as he looked out over the city. All the skyscrapers blocking any view except for concrete and traffic below.
"If you want to keep your position here at the company you'll cancel your trip to the Virgin Islands and do what we're asking you." his father was now chiming in.
"No Hyunjin, we're not kidding. Me and your father built this company from the ground up. You need a reminder of how fortunate and lucky you are." Hyunjins mother scolded.
Hyunjin hated this stupid game they were playing. He worked hard, he'd been with the company since he graduated college and he'd earned his position, it wasnt handed to him. Sure he might reap a few added benefits of being the founders son.... but his parents just didn't like who he was becoming. Whatever that meant. Hyunjin liked who he was even if they didn't.
"Fine... I'll do it." Hyunjin grumbled, knowing there was no way he was getting out of this. Hopefully after Christmas he could rebook his trip for the new year.
"What all will I need to do?"
"The head of the charity committee will reach out to you today. She'll let you know what's needed." Hyunjin's mother beamed at him, obviously happy that she got her way.
Mr. Hwang,
.
.
Hyunjin hadn't even made it back to his office on the 32 floor before his phone was buzzing in his pocket with an incoming email.
Thank you so much for volunteering your time to help us over the next 2 weeks. We have many things we are trying to accomplish in our community and it's kind hearts like yours that help us do that!
Attached you will find a schedule of events that we will be doing. Some are during business hours and several are after business hours, so please clear your calendar appropriately.
Should you have any questions, please let me know! I've attached my business and personal contact information below.
Warm regards,
Noelle Stuart
She had booked the community center for the first volunteer event of the holiday season and it was a thank you dinner/get to know each other type of thing. Mr. & Mrs. Hwang had paid for a catered dinner from their favorite Italian restaurant which was so nice of them. The restaurant had delivered it right at 6 making a small buffet style spread laid out on one of the many folding tables in the community room. The 9 volunteers that arrived had taken a seat around one of the tables and were listening to Noelle speak.
During AND after business hours? This chick was crazy! He opened the attachment and saw the first event scheduled was for tonight at 6 pm. Who schedules something at 6 pm on a Monday???
.
.
"Thank you all for coming! I wanted to start off the next 2 weeks with getting to know each other a little bit. Since we're all mostly from different departments, I thought this would be a good way to network." Noelle was speaking to her volunteers that had shown up.
"Looks like almost everyone is here. Just missing one. We can go ahead and dig in and when our last volunteer shows up they can grab theirs!"
Everyone ate and chatted. Topics ranging from work, to holiday plans, to what had made them want to volunteer. Everyone had finished eating and were all relaxing in their chairs after a delicious meal.
"What about you Noelle? This is your third year running the charity events, what got you involved?" One of the volunteers asked her.
"I took over the program 3 years ago after Frank, the old coordinator retired. I had worked closely with him for several years before that, so it was an easy transition." The door to the community center opened and in snuck the man that Noelle was surprised even bothered to show up at this point. She thought to say something snarky but she decided to finish her story first.
"I didn't grow up with much, my mom was a single parent, working 2 jobs trying to make ends meet for me and my brothers. The holidays were the hardest for us. Santa didn't come to my house every year, cause Santa was a hard working single mom who had to choose groceries over toys. My mom moved us into this very neighborhood and this exact community center is where I got to see Santa for the first time. I got to pick a gift from his bag, and actually have a magical Christmas for once. It's my first good Christmas memory I have, and it's all because amazing people, just like you guys, decided to share their time and efforts to bring joy to those children... that's what got me involved...I want to share that same feeling of joy with as many children as possible. I want for their parents to be able to sleep at night knowing their child will still have a magical holiday season..." Everyone was so quiet, hanging onti each of Noelle's words. A few of the volunteers even wiped tears away.
"So! We have lots of work to do the next two weeks to make that happen!" Noelle clapped her hands together breaking the somber mood. "Mr. Hwang!" She called as she stood.
Hyunjin, who had snuck in trying to be unnoticed, had found purchase leaning against the doorway as Noelle told her story. She walked a few places in his direction before motioning to the table with the buffet on it.
"How good of you to join us! Please come in and get some food."
.
Arriving at the community center and interrupting this person talking made Hyunjin feel so awkward. He didn't want to be here in the first place and here he was looking like an ass showing up late. He internally grumbled, leaning against the doorway as the person finished speaking. She was pretty, he had never seen her before at the company...but then again he didn't spend a lot of time outside his own department.
.
Being late wasn't something Hyunjin meant to do...he just kind of forgot about the meeting after he got busy with the rest of his day. After work he had went home and headed to the gym like normal, then he was in the middle of making dinner when his mom texted him asking how the first charity meeting was going. If...well, more like when, his mom found out he was late to the meeting he was going to get an ear full. He was still in his sweats and hoodie when he quickly stopped cooking, turned off the stove, grabbed his big jacket, and headed right out the door.
"Keep me posted! If you need anything, you know where to find me!" Mrs. Hwang quickly hung up leaving Noelle to her thoughts. Mrs. Hwang had approached her about needing some help with her son at the beginning of December. Her worst fear was happening. Her son was letting money and success go to his head. He was selfish and she hated seeing her once loving and caring son turn into this. Noelle had never had any interactions with Hyunjin prior to the charity event so she couldn't make the assessments that Mr. And Mrs. Hwang we're making. She just knew that he sounded like any other corporate America tight wade....wound so far up their own ass they couldn't see the rest of the world around them. It was a shame too because he was so devastatingly handsome. Why couldn't his personality be as gorgeous as he was?
Her story was hard for Hyunjin to listen to...and that made Hyunjin realize something about himself. His whole life, even before his parents had founded their company, he was well taken care of and probably would be considered spoiled by most. He never had to wonder if Santa would show up to his house...He took his privilege for granted. Was this what his parents were talking about?
.
.
Well he was late to the first meeting but at least he showed up." Mrs. Hwang was on the other end of Noelle's phone asking for an update on her son. The first week of charity events had unfolded and it was going well. Hyunjin had shown up for everything on time after the first incident, doing whatever was needed. He might not have been a ray of sunshine while doing it, but he was doing it none the less. Noelle even thought she had saw him smiling and enjoying himself a little at the cookie decorating night they had the other night.
Noelle cleared her mind so she could carry on with her day. She had just gotten back to work when her phone began ringing.
"Hello?"
"Noelle! Oh my dear, I have terrible news!" Mrs. Brown, the woman who ran the community center was in the other line.
"Oh no! What's wrong?"
"A pipe burst in the community center bathroom. They're closing the center down for the next several days to fix it. I know that messes up your plans for the charity events."
"I knew everything was going too smooth this year." Noelle sighed before leaning back in her chair. "How many days till they think it will be fixed? We have the Christmas craft night, movie night, and the evening with Santa scheduled for next week. Will we be able to still host those?"
"I hope so, right now everything is on pause. Could be a day or so, could be a week."
"Closed for a whole week?!" My heart dropped.
"Im so sorry Noelle. You know this building is so old."
" I know Mrs. Brown, it's not anyone's fault. That building has been there forever, things like this are bound to happen. Especially when the city has you guys on such a right budget....it's ok." I sighed "I'll figure something out! I'll let you know what the new plan is. I'll move the meeting we were supposed to have tonight somewhere else. Thanks Mrs. Brown."
After hanging up, Noelle laid her head on her desk. The weight of the situation sinking in. Where were they going to find space for all these kids and their parents if the community center didn't open back up?
"Ughhhhh" she groaned. Sitting her head in her hands and rubbing her temples with her finger tips. It's fine Noelle, she thought to herself, We'll just change tonight's meeting to be at your apartment....your very tiny Brooklyn apartment.
"Ughhhhh" Hyunjin heard Noelles groan out of frustration. He thought about just walking away. But then even more guilt hit him. He should check on her right? Maybe not....but maybe he should.
.
.
Hyunjin found himself pressed against the outside wall of Noelle’s office. He was just about to walk in when he could hear she had gotten a phone call so he paused. Overhearing what Noelle was saying it was obviously bad news...so maybe he shouldn't bail on the meeting tonight like he was planning to. It was Friday, a few friends of his were planning to go to the bar and since he wasn't enjoying a tropical beach vacation at the moment, drinks with friends sounded much more appealing. He rubbed his hand over face as his mind was being broken into two. He wanted to go get drinks but his guilt was already setting in at the thought of cancelling on this poor person.
*Knock, knock* He softly rapped on the doorframe to her office.
"Hey, everything ok?" His guilt winning the internal argument with himself to check on her.
"Uh yeah. Everything is fine." She pushed herself off of her desk and managed to afix a fake smile on her face. Hyunjin noted how she was still beautiful even when she was frustrated.
"I uh, heard you a minute ago. If you needed to talk... I can spare some time..." Hyunjin fumbled with his words, somehow wanting for her to confide in him, completely forgetting the idea of cancelling on her for drinks with his friends.
"Just a minor...well major... hiccup in the charity events for next week. The community center had a pipe burst and it needs to be repaired so they're closed till further notice." Hyunjin sat down in one of the spare chairs in Noelle's office. He leaned on his knees and rubbed his chin.
"Ok...well....we'll figure something out. Between all of us I know we can still make this happen. But for tonight what does that mean? I know we were meeting to prep for the Christmas craft night." Hyunjin honestly couldn't believe himself, sitting here talking about Christmas craft prep. He kind of liked how it made him feel though. They had done holiday cookies with the kids just a few days ago and seeing the looks on every kids faces as they decorated the cookies had made him feel so happy, but most of all...it made him feel proud. Proud that he was a part of something like this.
"I guess I'll just move it to my apartment. It's small but it'll hold all 11 of us. We can order in pizza and make the craft kits."
"I like it. How about I get the pizza on my way over, one less thing for you to worry about." Hyunjins comment made a bit of sparkle return to Noelles eyes. Maybe he wasnt wound so far up his own ass after all.
In just over 30 minutes he was knocking on the door to Noelle’s apartment. A Christmas wreath with a bright red bow decorated it.
.
.
Noelle had emailed everybody the update about the community center as well as her apartment address for tonight's gathering. To which Hyunjin quickly realized they lived near each other. He had a townhouse in Brooklyn Heights and Noelle lived in Williamsburg, the hipster art district. He had found a pizza joint close to her place that had good reviews and called in the order while he was on the way over.
“You're 5 minutes late Mr. Hwang!" She scolded opening the door. "but since you brought the food I'll let it slide." She smiled at him, moving aside allowing him to come in. The kitchen was right at the entrance of her apartment. He sat the pizza boxes on the counter of the bar and took in the quaint loft apartment as he removed his jacket and hung it on the coat rack by the door. The old mill building had lots of exposed brick and concrete floors. The kitchen led into a small but open living room that had a vaulted ceiling due to the open loft design. A spiral staircase on the right wall led up to what must have been her bedroom above the kitchen. There was a smell of fresh pine in the air from the holiday candle burning on the counter. There were Christmas decorations on every available space and a Christmas tree decked out in red and white in the corner. It kind of looked like a Hallmark Christmas movie set had exploded in her house...but in a good way? Everyone was settled in the living room. Some on the couch, some on the living room rug around the coffee table.
"Come dig in everybody!" Noelle pulled out paper plates from the cabinet.
Before Hyunjin could get in line to grab his slices of pizza his phone was buzzing. Looking at the screen he immediately knew why the person was calling.
"Hey can I step out to take this?" He asked Noelle
"Yeah, sure! The balcony door is unlocked if you need to go outside, I know it's a little loud in here."
"Thanks!" He quickly crossed the living room sneaking outside.
"Hey, man, I'm so sorry I forgot to text you, I'm not gunna make it to drinks tonight." Hyunjin leaned against the Christmas light decorated railing as his friend Kyle begged him to come out for drinks. He realized his shoe was untied so he sat down at the table and chair set Noelle had outside. He put his phone on speaker before he laid it on the table and proceeded to tie his shoe.
"Hyunjin this charity stuff can wait. Come out and have fun. Those poor kids are poor cause they're dumb parents aren't doing enough. Why is that your problem?" Hyunjin couldn't even finish tying his shoe. The white hot rage that flew through him was a new feeling.
"Kyle you're an ignorant mother fucker, you know that? You don't get to be judge and jury of others when you're not walking in their shoes. I'm not coming to get drinks with you tonight, and you know what? I'm probably not going to be coming to drink with you guys ever again. I don't wanna associate myself with people who think like you." Hyunjin hung up his phone and finished tying his shoe.
"Uhhhh....hey." a small voice spoke to Hyunjins left. He turned and saw the door cracked open with Noelle standing right there.
"Shit, I'm so sorry, I didn't mean to make a scene or bother anyone...my friend just...he's an idiot." Hyunjin didn't know how much Noelle had heard. Little to his knowledge she had heard the whole thing and seeing how passionate he was about defending these families made her chest tighten.
"No, no it's ok. Not everyone understands what or why we do this. I think the Christmas music in here is loud enough no one heard a thing" she chuckled. "I came to see what you were wanting to drink. I have just about anything."
"Does just about anything include beer?" Hyunjin sighed and stood up.
"It definitely does! Beer and pizza were made for each other." She opened the door wider inviting Hyunjin back inside.
"You are absolutely right about that." He slipped his phone in his pocket and followed her back in. They ate, and drank, prepped over 150 craft kits for the kids and soon people started to trickle out, leaving for the night and eventually there was only Hyunjin and Noelle left sitting on the couch. The Christmas tree and the tv the only things lighting the room. She had a yule log on the tv that had soft music playing with it.
"You're telling me that my mom has been planning this since the beginning of October?" Hyunjin was laughing as Noelle spilled the tea about Mrs. Hwangs plan she had brewed up.
"I think your mother is a genius. She's definitely a good one in my book." Noelle finished her beer. She had honestly lost count of how many she had. She wasn't drunk by any means but she was certainly relaxed. She got up taking it to the recycling bin. She quickly cleaned up the leftover pizza putting it in the fridge and she wiped the counter down.
"I guess i should really be thanking my mom...and I should thank you. My mom said I needed a reminder of how fortunate and lucky I was....I guess she was right."
"Don't be so hard on yourself, we all-"
"No Noelle, it's the truth. I....I was like Kyle. A blind idiot. The thought of even having associated with him makes me nauseous....but it gets worse Noelle. Even the people in my life who truly care and love me...I put them on the back burner...all because some flashy rich lifestyle called to me. My real friends I've practically forgotten about..."
"Hey hey stop it! You're really being way to hard on yourself. It's ok Hyunjin." She came back over to the couch and sat down, turning to facing him. "Life happens Hyunjin. It's full of good, bad, and the in-between. You're not a bad person. You never were." She placed her hand on his knee and gently squeezed.
That simple touch was the last thing for Hyunjin. He had been staring at Noelle all night, admiring her. Not just her body, but her mind, every little thing that she said, he was hanging on every word. He leaned forward, the distance between them shrinking to mere inches "Am I a bad person if I want to kiss you right now?"
Their eyes locked as Noelle thought it over for a second, she knew once she crossed this line there was no going back but she'd be lying if she said the thought hadn't crossed her mind too. The moment he entered her office this afternoon and lent her his ear she was ready to kiss the man, let alone after he stood up to his friend a few hours ago. She didn't even let herself answer him. She just closed the distance and crashed her lips over his. She slid herself closer to him never breaking their kiss. Her hands trailed up his chest and snakes into his hair. It was just as soft as it looked. She fisted it in her hands and gently bit his lip.
"Hyunjin?" she said breathily breaking the kiss for a moment
"Yeah?" He rested his forehead against hers catching his breath.
"Can we take this upstairs?" She softly asked then proceeded to worry her bottom lip between her teeth as she waited for his response.
"Lead the way" he smirked, helping her up from the couch. They climbed her spiral staircase, one following the other. Her room had a small slim Christmas tree in the corner supplying some dim light. Her bed was against the back wall and a bathroom looked to be on the left.
Hyunjin quickly resumed where they had left off sweeping Noelle practically off her feet as he walked her back towards the mattress. In between heated kisses he pulled his hoodie and t-shirt off together. She traced his lean muscled frame with her finger tips, sending shivers down his spine. His hands found the hem of her shirt.
"May I?" He asked, not wanting to rush her but she quickly smiled and nodded at him. He pulled her shirt up and over her head, tossing it to the side before he wrapped his arms around her, kissing her deeply. Absorbing just how good she felt pressed against him, his fingers digging into the soft around her hips. He lowered her back on to the mattress, her wrapping her legs around his waist, him caging her in with his arms. He pressed his hips against hers.
"Hyunjin!" She gasped as she felt his length grind against her sensitive center.
"You sound so devine saying my name." He kissed down her neck, trailing kisses between her breasts.
"Hyunjin please!" She whined. He was so hard for her, his name falling from her lips was killing him in the best of ways. Stepping off the bed he peeled her jeans off as fast as possible revealing a cute pair of red lace underwear that matched the red lace bra she was wearing. She hadnt planned on showing anything off tonight but she was happy she wore these none the less.
"Feeling festive?" He chuckled leaning down planting kisses across her stomach. He hooked his thumbs in the waist of them and he slowly slid them down her legs dropping them at the foot of the bed. He stood only for a second to undo his belt and pull his pants and underwear off in one go.
Noelle’s stomach was full of butterflies as she laid there watching Hyunjin. Seeing him completely naked had her core pulsing in anticipation. He too couldn't help himself but appreciate the sight in front of him, the view of Noelle spread across the bed waiting for him. He gently stroked his length in his hand letting out a hissing sound as his hand caressed the sensitive head. "You're so beautiful you know" he groaned
"Hyunjin" she whined again as she watched him.
"Come here baby" he crooned in a lustful voice. Beckoning with two fingers using his free hand. Noelle crawled to him at the foot of the bed, sitting back on her heels when she reached him. "Tell me what you want baby." He delicately traced her jaw with his finger tips and tilted her head up to meet his gaze. Noelle's cheeks burned as she got lost in his intense eye contact.
"Don't be embarrassed" he cupped her cheek, "I'm going to make you feel so good." He kissed her deeply, tongue swiping her bottom lip begging for entrance. She fisted her hands in his hair again, getting swept up in his praise. He pulled back to ask her again.
" Tell me what you want baby, if you don't want to-"
"No no, I want you to fuck me Hyunjin" she cut him off and reached behind her back undoing her bra, the last piece of cloth she had covering herself, and throwing it to the floor with the rest of the scattered clothing. "Please fuck me." She pleaded
That was all the invitation he needed. Standing in front of her, he took one hand and slid it up her thigh slowly, drawing nearer and nearer to her center.
"Spread for me baby" he whispered into her ear as he leaned in and nipped at her earlobe. She did as he said spreading her knees farther apart from each other as she stayed kneeling on the end of the bed. His long fingers slid across her folds, dragging through the wetness that had pooled there. Noelle whimpered as he slid 2 fingers into her dripping pussy. He slowly pumped them in and out of her. His thumb gathered some of her slick and began drawing slow small circles around her clit at the same time. She wrapped her arms around Hyunjins neck for support and let him control her.
"Don't stop Hyunjin" she moaned. She could feel her orgasm building. "I'm so close"
He quickened his pace on her bundle of nerves and snatched her lips with his own. When she came undone on his hand she moaned into his mouth, nails digging into his shoulders. His fingers fucked her through her orgasm, the overstimulation making her whimper. As much as he wanted to take his time he couldn't wait anymore, he slowly slide his fingers out of her still pulsing core, his slick fingers grazing her sensitive clit as he withdrew from her folds.
"Lay back." he instructed her, breaking their kiss. He stroked his aching cock with his slick covered hand as Noelle worked her way backwards up the mattress until she could lean back into the pillows. Her legs felt like jello and that was only from his fingers, the anticipation for what he was going to do next had Noelle buzzing. Hyunjin wasted no time in following Noelle up the mattress. He kissed up her leg, massaging her soft skin with his hands. She opened her legs for him, letting him nestle between them as his trail of kisses went up her stomach until he was at her breasts. His tongue danced around one of her nipples until it was hard and then he gently grazed it with his teeth.
Noelle arched into him from the painful pleasure as he teased her. Hyunjin drew moan after moan from Noelle, her sounds fueling him more.
She could have come again just from this if he kept going but he stopped and continued his trail of kisses up her chest and neck. He ran his hands up her body as he went. He gathered each of her hands and placing them over her head holding them their in a firm grip with one hand. He slid his length across her soaking wet folds before lining himself up to her entrance. He eased into her, savoring every second of how she felt as he sheathed his aching cock inside of her. Noelle moaned and arched her back, melting into the mattress.
He started a slow tempo as he pulled out and eased back in. Allowing her to stretch around him. With each thrust he began to pick up his speed. He soon let go of her wrists and sat up, changing the angle. He hooked his arms underneath Noelle’s knees and pistoned into her. The only sounds being skin on skin, Noelle moaning his name over and over, and Hyunjin crooning to her that she took his cock so well.
"Baby you're so good for me" Hyunjin put one of Noelles legs over his shoulders and he let the other hook behind him deepening his thrusts. His hand splayed out across her lower stomach and his thumb found her clit. "I wanna see you come on this cock, you wanna come for m baby?”
Her hands fisting the pillows above her head, Noelle was a frazzled mess. "Yes, Hyunjin!" She gasped as the tension built.
The languid thrusts, the drag of his cock against her walls, the attenetions he was giving her clit. It sent her higher and higher until she spilled over. Her tight walls squeezing him, pushing him to his own release as they came together.
"Fuck! Noelle!" He groaned and threw his head back as he filled her. Noelle wasn’t sure if she was sex drunk or if this was the hottest and most beautiful man she had ever seen. Buried balls deep inside her, sweat gleaming off his abs, his Adams apple showing more prominently with his head tilted back, as he dug his fingers into her thighs, holding her tight as he filled her with his cum. Either way she was more than pleased with the view. He wasn’t lying when he said he was going to make her feel good
.
.
"Hey! I have some insanely good news." He had a huge smile on his face.
The weekend ended up being an endless sex fest for both of them. Hyunjin spent Friday night at Noelle’s after they finally succumbed to their attraction. Then on Saturday they spent the night at Hyunjin’s townhouse, where Noelle promptly scolded Hyunjin for having not a single Christmas decoration up. Sunday was spent ordering take out and laying on Hyunjin’s couch watching Noelles favorite Holiday movies...at least attempting to watch them if they could keep their hands off each other. When Monday came, work was uneventful for the both of them but Hyunjin showed up at Noelle’s office just before closing time.
"Do tell!" She gathering her things to leave the office for the night.
"So I know we're moving the craft night and movie night to the local elementary school.....but we may have been able to call in a favor...and get the community center repairs done by Thursday for the evening with Santa"
"Hyunjin!!" Noelle was flinging herself into his arms and hugging him tightly. "How?? Oh my god, thank you, thank you!" She released him "You know what, it can be your Christmas secret. Come on, let's go get a drink to celebrate!" Slipping on her jacket she pulled him out the door behind her.
.
.
"To us." she smiled back.
"To us." Hyunjins gleaming smile had Noelle on cloud nine.
Sitting at the bar they clinked their glasses together celebrating the good news. Noelle was so excited to keep the tradition alive of having Santa hand out toys at the community center. The fact most of her childhood was spent there and her now current employers community reinvestment was for the same community center, it had to be destiny right? She felt like it was meant to be. Like she was doing the right thing with her life. Maybe the right person had just come into it as well, making it even more special for her.
"Hyunjin!!" somebody blurted out loudly behind them. Hyunjin knew who it was without looking and his stomach sank. "Hyunjin where the hell have you been? You ghosted me man." Hyunjin stood up as the man approached. " Last we talked you said you didn't want to see me anymore buddy." Kyle mocked
"One, we're not buddies Kyle and two, you're right, i don't want to see you so leave us alone"
"Damn you get a taste of some charity pussy? Is this little Mrs. Charity herself?" Kyle came over and leaned on Noelle’s chair. "Hyunjin said a sob story was running the charity show. If you need some more charity, I have some I can give you." Kyle brushed up against Noelle. She was nauseous at this pricks audacity. She chucked her almost full beer right in his face. Kyle stumbled back wiping his eyes. Noelle grabbed her stuff and quickly rushed out of the bar.
Hyunjin pulled Kyle up by the collar of his shirt. "If you so much as breathe in the same room as her ever again, I will personally find a way to make your life a living hell. Lose my number Kyle." He shoved him back, letting him stumble into a table.
He gabbed his coat and threw a $20 on the counter as he left the bar. Rushing down the sidewalk he hoped he could find Noelle. He found her sitting on a bench a block down from the bar. A look of disgust on her face as she stared into the distance.
"Noelle!" He called catching up with her. "Noelle I’m so sorry!" He pleaded as he knelt down reaching out to hold her hands. She immediately pulled away from him.
"Don't touch me." The hurt was written all over her face.
"I'm so sorry, Noelle. I told you I wish I never associated with him, h-he made me into an awful person. I ju-"
"You told him I'm a charity case?" She spoke coldly.
"No that's not- it wasn't like that, I told him-"he stammered over his words.
"You spoke ill of me, my group. That's you talking shit about the people I love, to some scummy asshole who's been privileged his whole life-"
"No! Noelle, it's not like that, I mean I did- it's not- I'm sorry, I'm so so sorry-" he couldn't even speak clearly to get his thoughts across.
"Stop Hyunjin" she stood up, hurt in her eyes "Thank you for your help with the charity events, but we won't be needing your assistance anymore. This charity case doesn't need your help either. Please ...just leave me alone." She pushed past him as her tears began pouring.
Hyunjin didn't know what to do. His feet were frozen. He stood there on the sidewalk watching her disappear down the street.
.
.
By 3 o'clock she was done with cleaning, setting up, and decorating. She had made all the final calls and sent all reminder emails out. She finally took a minute for herself to relax in one of the hard fold out chairs. She admired her hard work. Knowing that it was going to be worth it seeing all the smiling faces tonight.
Noelle had spent Tuesday and Wednesday faking smiles and pretending to laugh at both the craft night and the movie night. She had made up an excuse for Hyunjin not being able to help anymore and told the group. They all went along, not questioning it. She had decided to take Thursday as a day away from the office. She was going to be working on making sure the whole community center was ready for their evening with Santa after being closed for a week. She wanted it as perfect as possible and that required her full attention. Decorating each table, putting the centerpieces together, setting up Santa's set for the photos with all the kids.
"Noelle! This is breath taking!" Mrs. Brown came into the room, praising everything.
"Mrs. Brown! I'm so happy to see you! It was alot to do but it makes it so magical when its decorated over the top."
"It really does, you have a way with Christmas decorations my dear." Mrs. Brown came over and sat beside her. "And to think we wouldn't be sitting here without that kind gentleman paying extra for that repair company to prioritize our building."
"They paid extra?" Noelle was so confused.
"One of the Hwangs called on Monday around lunch time and notified me that they had pulled some strings to get a repair crew out here Tuesday and Wednesday so we could do this tonight. I'm guessing they paid a pretty penny to make this crusty building top priority."
"I'll have to thank Mr. and Mrs. Hwang tonight. They've been so supportive of everything we do for the community center."
"We appreciate them more than they know! Well my dear, I'm off to go corral small children. The ones who leave school and come right to us will be here in 20 minutes. I'll see ya tonight!"
Mrs. Brown left Noelle to her thoughts. She was grateful to the Hwang’s. There son might be an ass but they themselves are wonderful people. She would thank them in person tonight for all their generosity.
.
What Kyle had said was misconstrued but was Kyle really wrong? Hyunjin had talked crap about the charity committee and how his parents had set him up, ruining his vacation...if he could go back to that first community meeting he would and he would change everything. He would have thanked his parents for doing what they did, he would go to that first charity meeting on time, and most of all he would thank Noelle for bringing him back to his real self. But he couldn't go back...what was done, was done.
.
Hyunjin sat in his living room staring at the black screen of the television. He wasn't sure what to do with himself. He wanted to go to the event tonight and show his support but he knew that Noelle didn't want to see his face. Every time that he went to text her he would end up deleting the message before sending anything. Scared that he would do more damage than good.
His phone on the coffee table started buzzing. He let it go to voicemail. Next a text message came through and he thought about ignoring it, but something told him that he probably shouldn't. It was his mom.
Please call me. Was all she said.
He confided in his mother when everything fell apart with Noelle on Monday. How his crap attitude had come back to bite him in the ass. That even though what Kyle said wasn't accurate he wasn't really wrong. Talking bad about Noelle's hard work was so ignorant of him. He told his mom how he had fallen for her so hard and that she showed him how to open his heart again. That the old him who had disappeared had come back and he wished he could erase all the years of his ignorance. There was nothing his mother could do to help the situation but she was a wonderful listener. He picked up the phone called his mother back, it only rang once before she answered.
"How are you?" She asked, gentle concern in her voice
"Okay." It was the truth, he was okay, but that didn't mean that he was happy.
"Did you try to talk to her?" She pressed
"No... I'm scared I'll make it worse." He rubbed his jawline feeling the scruffy stubble that he had let go all week long, not caring that people in the office had never seen him look less than business professional and clean shaven.
"You should come tonight." His mother said
"You have to be kidding! She hates me, she doesn't want to see me."
"Did you ask her if she hates you?" She quipped.
"... No... I didn't ask her... So what if I go? This is an important night to her. All I will do is ruin it for her... I'll talk to her... Just not tonight."
His mother sighed but didn't press any further. "Well since you're not sitting in the tropics right now, what are your plans for Christmas?"
"Actually, I had thought about texting Chan..."
"I like that idea. " There was a warm happiness in his mom's voice as he spoke of his old high school friend. "Seeing Chan would be a wonderful plan."

Once everybody had finished eating dessert it was time for a quick speech and then Santa would be ready. Noelle got on the small stage that would soon seat Santa Claus and his elves. The North Pole set she had created earlier that day looking extremely festive as her backdrop. She tapped the mic getting everybody's attention, the room quieted down.
The room was filled with smiling faces, loud boisterous laughter, and it really felt like the magic of Christmas had finally arrived. There was a huge feast of food supplied by the Hwang’s. Everybody ate their fill, and when everyone thought that they were done, dessert came out. Of course everyone made room for dessert. Santa would be there soon to hand out toys. All of the toys that Santa would be giving out had been donated by the Hwang’s business partners. Hyunjin's mother made it a priority that anybody they work with be as kind hearted as they were.
"Good evening everybody! We want to thank you all for coming. We're so happy to be celebrating Christmas with every single one of you. A little elf told me that Santa's going to be here shortly." The room erupted with cheers and cries of happiness from all the children, the excitement almost getting to be too much for them. "So I won't take up too much of Santa's time but I wanted to thank not only you guys for coming and being a part of our celebration but I wanted to thank Mr. and Mrs. Hwang for your generosity. For investing in this small community center where I myself grew up coming to see Santa handout presents. You are so generous to have helped expedite the repairs so we would be able to hold this event here again this year. Merry Christmas everybody!"
On queue Mr. Brown, Mrs. Brown's wonderful husband who had decided to play Santa for everybody, started ringing jingle bells out in the hall. With bells in hand and a sack of toys thrown over his back he came inside the community room sending every child into a frenzy.
As Santa made his way up to the stage Noelle made her way off the stage, heading directly for Mr. and Mrs. Hwang so she could thank them again.
"We don't know what you're thanking us for, we should be thanking you!" Mrs.Hwang hugged Noelle warmly.
"I need to thank you for so many things, you help us every year with the community center and this year specifically, you helped fix this building so that we could do this. There's not enough words for me to say thank you."
"Well, we wish we could take credit for that but we didn't know that the building needed repairs, otherwise we would have paid for it but it wasn't us. " Mr. Hwang shrugged and shook his head.
"I'm so confused, Mrs Brown had told me that one of the Hwangs had called...” Noelle remembered Hyunjin coming to her office on Monday. ‘we may have been able to call in a favor’ he said. The realization hitting her like a ton of bricks. Hyunjin had paid for the expedited repairs.
“ Mrs. Hwang where is Hyunjin tonight?"
"When i talked to him earlier he was sitting at home...He told me what happened, I told him to talk to you but I think he's worried. I'll cover for you my dear Why don't you go see him?"
Noelle’s brain was swimming. "The director of the charity committee leaving their own charity event? I can't!"
"Go see him! After Santa hands out gifts there's nothing else happening here, We can handle it." Mrs Hwang gently squeezed Noelle's hand reassuringly. “You brought my son back to me Noelle, the person he has always been was buried down in there, he just needed you to pull it back to the surface.”
.
.
*Knock knock *
Hyunjin honestly didn't know what he was doing. He had put on White Christmas, the movie Noel said was her ultimate favorite. He even attempted to make some subpar hot cocoa because he had all the ingredients left over from the weekend when Noel showed him how to make it. It was slightly scalded and definitely didn't taste that great. His pity party obviously going well and in full swing.
Hyunjin wasn't expecting anybody, maybe it was a late Amazon package? But he didn't think that anything he ordered was late. He walked to the door quickly opened it not expecting to see who was standing on the other side.
"Noelle!" He gasped
"Hey...."
Snow flurries had started falling And little snowflakes we're getting stuck in her hair and melting as she stood on his front stoop.
"Do you want... to come in?"
"Can I?" Noelle’s gut was in knots. Now in front of the person she wanted to talk to and all words had left her.
"Absolutely." Hyunjin said contently, opening the door wide. Relief washing over him, knowing that at least she wanted to talk to him.
She made her way into the living room and shrugged off her jacket. She didn't sit down though, her nerves kept her pacing in front of the fireplace instead.
"So the event is going well... Your mom took over so I could come see you... I need to ask you something." Noelle rung her hands as she paced.
"Okay, ask away " Hyunjin took a seat in the center of the sofa watching her go back and forth.
"When you told me on Monday that you all had pulled a favor to get the community center fixed....i thought it was your parents that had spent their own money to help make sure it was repaired for today's event... Mrs Brown had even told me one of the Hwangs had called her so it didn't make me think otherwise. I thanked your parents tonight for helping make this dream come true cause I assumed it was them... But they didn't even know repairs had been needed... They hadn't paid for the repairs... And the only other Hwang I know who could have called Mrs. Brown, is you."
Hyunjin hung his head, looking at the floor searching for the right words "Before I met you I was going to spend my Christmas sitting on a beach in the Virgin Islands. All I cared about was me, myself, and I. And all that I wanted was to be selfish and not even spend Christmas with people that loved me...but then I met you." Hyunjin looked up at Noelle, his brow furrowed, the sincerity written all over his face "You have this light about you and the way that you want to bring love and joy to everybody around you is something that I used to enjoy. I don't know when that disappeared in me but being with you, it reminded me of who i used to be...who i want to be."
He stood up from the couch "Yeah, I said some really stupid stuff to Kyle, but I never said a bad word about you. I want you to know that. He's just an asshole...I'm sorry I was so ignorant. What you're doing is amazing and I knew how important it was for you to have this event in the community center. So yeah... I paid to have the repairs done, because I care about you and I care about what you care about..." Hyunjin walked around the coffee table to get to Noelle. "I am so sorry I hurt you."
Noelle was absorbing everything she was hearing. At some point tears had started falling down her cheeks.
"Oh Hyunjin!" She reached out for him and he scooped her into his arms. She couldn't form any words, all she could do was hold him tight.
"I love you Noelle" he pressed a kiss to the top of her head as he held her. Noelle lifted her head searching his eyes. "I love you too Hyunjin" she leaned up on her tiptoes to kiss him gently, letting his soft plush lips healing her broken heart.
.
.
They were both snuggled up into bed now. They had been looking out the broad windows of Noelle’s apartment watching the flurries that had now turned in a full on snow fall. Noelle had fallen asleep in the nook of Hyunjins arm. Between watching the snow and watching Noelle sleep Hyunjin was thinking over what he had said to his mom earlier about Chan. He reached for his phone on the night stand finding the last text message from Chan, his old high school friend he hadn’t seen in a long time. Chan always tried to keep in touch. A few weeks ago Chan had invited him and the guys from back in the day to his place for Christmas Day dinner and Hyunjin had just ignored him, leaving him on read. He felt like shit about that now. Since he wasn't currently sitting on the beach somewhere, and not to mention that he had his head pulled out of his ass by Noelle, he thought there was nowhere else he'd rather be for Christmas than with his real friends.
Noelle and Hyunjin had made it back to the community center in time to help Santa finish handing out toys to the remaining children. Mr. and Mrs Hwang insisted on getting a family picture in front of the Christmas tree with Hyunjin and Noelle. After they cleaned everything up from the festivities they all said goodnight and headed their separate ways... except for Noelle and Hyunjin. They found their way back to Noelles place where they put on White Christmas and Noelle made Hyunjin a proper cup of hot chocolate.
He quickly typed out his message and pushed send waiting for a reply. A short second later and his phone dinged, it read:
Chan: I'll make sure to have 2 extra places set for you and Noelle. So glad you're coming!
A Very Merry Skzmas Masterelist
