Are you afraid of the dark? >> I am not. I don't recall ever having a fear of darkness, in fact. Not even as a child.

Do you watch American Horror Story? >> I watched a few seasons (Murder House, Coven, Asylum, Apocalypse, parts of others) a long time ago. I liked some parts of Coven but found other parts insufferable. I did think Apocalypse was cool, iirc. I don't know, it's hard to like AHS; it feels like something I should enjoy -- lurid, pulpy, smutty, all my favourite adjectives are here -- but then I watch it and I'm just like *sighs heavily*. I don't know, man. It just hits too many wrong notes for me, and those notes are usually very prominent elements of the show (a main-character casting, for example) so I can't just ignore them.

Does your hometown have any urban legends/scary stories? >> I don’t know any urban legends about any place I’ve lived. I’m sure they exist, but I never thought to seek them out.

Did you have anything for breakfast today? >> The first meal I had was this pork carnitas microwave meal thing that I got from the food pantry. It was Great Value brand so I wasn't expecting much, and yeah it was pretty lame. Still edible. At this point, I'm just glad for the variety.

😂 why aren't the trolls obliging you when you're asking but want to play your shadow when you're quiet, useless fucks lol Anyway I was looking at inside outs insane numbers and looking at other new release, so The Bikeriders who went on a huge press tour around the world is not faring well but no headlines, Furiosa been nicely put to bed without anymore fuss on that box office loss, Twisters is coming up for Glen, it'll be interesting how that will do.

Other than seeing the Inside Out headlines, I haven’t paid attention to much else. But yeah, it sure is interesting what gets headlines and think pieces and what doesn’t. I do get movies move in and out much faster this time a year and often there is a summer wrap up at the end but yeah. I’m sure nobody is declaring Austin Butler not a movie star.

I don’t know, I’d argue that Zendaya and Anya are more or less on the same level. Anya has Mad Max Fury Road as her tentpole/franchise and seems to be #1 on the list when directors are looking for young actresses. She’s got a Dior contract. I think the industry is probably thirsty to give ATJ an Oscar nomination, it’s just a matter of when. I find her acting underwhelming and her persona quite fake though. Zendaya is obviously calculated too, but her rise has felt more natural and earned. The fact that Anya has nabbed a million lead film roles after her breakout (in a TV show; where she posed and eye fucked the camera more than acted but anyway…) and Zendaya has yet to truly lead a film is damning but unsurprising.

I feel like there’s a new white it girl every year so I wonder about Anya’s staying power. Zendaya at least has locked down the Black ingenue niche, seeing as it seems like there’s 1 WOC it girl for every 10 white ones.

Idk, to me I can't quite count Furiosa quite yet in her favor because a) while it'll probably make great money, it hasn't yet b) I don't think it can compare to the Spider-Man franchise, or the weird ~itness~ that comes with being a Spider-Man love interest. There's a reason why Tom and Zendaya are packaged together whenever one of those movies come out and a reason why suddenly people stop talking about their relationship when they're not promoting a movie.

As for the Dior contract... it does count. I just don't find the clothes that Anya wears to be quite as inspired~ as what Zendaya trots out in. I think a lot of thought goes into how Zendaya is packaged, down to her outfits. She's made to be a fashion girl, which is more to me than a contract. Jennifer Lawrence was a Dior girl, you know? But I don't think anyone would call her a fashion girl.

But yeah, the thing is that Zendaya has worked for years on her image and her career, and Anya can shoot up in an instant because she's white, thin, and can stare into the camera. Everything Zendaya does is more carefully analyzed, including her apparent nudity clause. If she wears her hair a certain way, commentators feel comfortable saying thats she looks like she'd smell like weed. Because Zendaya does have to fit in a slot where there is room for, most of the time, one girl at a time.

The sad thing about Zendaya occupying that particular spot, which I do think does exist (in terms of there being one Black ingenue for every 10 white ones) is that... There's a reason why she's favored over girls that have a darker skin tone. There's a level of palatability that I think she offers, even though it's also been made very clear that if she steps a toe out of line it will go away.

With that being said, I think she does have way more potential for staying power than Anya, which I guess is why I'd say she's more of the True It Girl. I can see her taking her status to a different place. Anya? We'll see. There was a time when it seemed like Jennifer Lawrence, to reference her again, was going to be around forever. And then everyone got annoyed with her and she had to disappear for four years.
