What is it about Banana that makes random people ask us if he's a basenji and then look like they don't believe us when we say he's not? Yes, ma'am, we've heard of basenjis before. No, ma'am, he is not one. He's mostly pit and chow, I promise you he is not a basenji and he does not look like a basenji.

#selene apparently got stopped while walking him earlier for some lady to ask her that #which is far from the first time that has happened #the amount of people ive had to tell that no he is not a basenji and in fact we've breed tested him so i am 100% certain about that #one lady told NOT ASKED but TOLD us at a outdoor market that he was clearly a 'malamar like those police dogs'#and then argued with me when i said he was definitely not a malinois but a mutt #people who know a few less common breeds seem to believe us the least when we say our dog is NOT an uncommon breed but just a shelter mutt #like i guarantee you that there are not purebred basenjis showing up in a NC county kill shelter for $10 adoption fees #funnily enough the shelter had him listed as a GSD puppy which... he also looks nothing like #but he DOES have a small amount of GSD in his mix #and of course our dog who is actually a recognizable kind of uncommon pure breed always gets called a doodle lol #and when i say 'no hes a german wirehaired pointer' i get that same 'i don't believe you' look #one guy at the dog park once was like 'oh is that the designer breed name or did you make that up?'#the conclusion is that average people have no ducking clue what dog breeds actually look like or what makes them recognizable #which is fine and im not gonna judge for it but like... please stop trying to correct me about my own pets #i promise i know more about them than some random stranger who just saw them for the first time
