Day 27 (Day 23 of hiking)
O'Cebreiro --> Calvor The climb wasn't over. We seemed to go up and down quite a bit. It was also so steep at one point. I listened to the Waitress soundtrack up the steepest part and once I reached the top there was a cafe/ bar. In front lay the cutest dog (who must have been part wolf). I scratched his belly as he lay in the sun. How I envied his laziness. We had a very loud hostel room, two snorers who were off synch, so there was continuous snoring :( Once we finally did reach the peak it was a long downhill. The road was nice and everyone went at their own pace. One man ran past me, the sound of his feet hitting the road was like explosions! He must have been going so fast. He also totally wiped out at a curve, but got right back up and kept running..... I guess everyone does it their own pace. We reached the bottom at the town of Triacastela. We didn't stop here and chose to go the shorter route towards Sarria. We hoped to stay there for the night. We kept walking and at one point we saw a small hippie donnativo statio, where we could have a bit of fruit and cookies. While there they invited us to stay for lunch (even though it was ~4pm). We said sure and sat down around the table. There we waited as they put the food (kale satee and lentil cakes) on plates. Once everyone had their food, the owner / leader, Simon, came and sat down. He closed his eyes and took the hands of the two women next to him. There he sat in silence, and everyone else took hands too. It was 5 minutes before he muttered "Thank you, thank you....." and then more silence. Finally more people offered some thanks, and then we had more silence. AK, Roberta (the woman from Italy) and I were all looking at one another .... what did we just walk into. Then finally we stopped "giving thanks" and started to eat! The food was very good. There was some strange chemistry between Simon and an older woman next to him 👀 After eating, we helped them fill up water jugs from their collection bin on the roof, used their interesting toilet, and continued on our merry way... 1.5 hours later. We were very tired after this stop, and almost made it to Sarria. We found a small albergue 6km before the city and it was very calm and perfect. There was a small bar 500 meters away where we got some wifi and a bit of food (and vino tinto). Then we almost crawled back to the albergue (out of exhaustion, not anything else) and went to bed!
