the 'vest' category on ravelry is an absolute wasteland i went on to look for patterns to satisfy my urge for a lil nineties dorky button front vest . and i had forgotten a) in many countries a 'vest' is what i in mine would call 'a tank top' b) that the ravelry design elements filter doesn't have any distinction between these two categories so you gotta look manually c) that many people will just put what is clearly a poncho in the vest category despite labeling it. 'poncho'. d) that sometimes there's just a cowl style scarf in there. what the fuck ever
