we really need to completely scrap the discourse on psychiatry and psychology and start from scratch
#also the fields themselves .#seriously tho memes about seratonin and and chemical imbalances have done detrimental damage to society and i mean this .#like the idea of a magic little pill is so appealing obviously and that’s why i think so many people have completely latched onto the idea#of chemical deficiencies even when they don’t really understand it#and are actively contributing to the disregarding of socioeconomic and cultural factors to ‘mental illness’#which is just sooooo ridiculous#and the treating of mental illness and such as ontological truths and inherent states of being instead of completely arbitrary categories#that are important in certain contexts but ultimately completely reliant on cultural factors is . harmful#and ik that it’s really not that serious . except that it is#bc pop culture drives a lot of peoples internal ideas about things . whether or not we like it and even if it comes framed as a joke
