If you know Japanese, as a treat, Toshiyuki Toyonaga and Kouki Uchiyama previewed their version of Durdn’s “My Plan” today on their almost weekly “Buddy Daddies” Onsen internet radio. I listen to it every week but I nary understand a thing except for a few words that I recognise. I just want to listen to their voices. 🥺
You can listen to them singing around 19:52 time mark.
It is so cute!!! And their laughter is so infectious, especially Tosshi’s.
They talk about the episodes and their characters. Last week they entertained letters from viewers.

unpopular but living failures is the best dlc track
the first part of maria’s theme is amazing, ludwig’s theme is also amazing BUT the living failures theme tells an entire story, hits the lovecraftian vibe and has one of the best chord transitions in any piece i have heard

Okay I freaked out for a bit because it looked like I reposted this fantastic artist's work (I peeked through their twitter and ahhh so much good stuff - https://twitter.com/dotswap ) -- because Tumblr apparently only shows you the preview image if you click it. HOWEVER you can click through and give the artist the eyeballs they deserve by 'View on Twitter'.

one of my favorite facts about gekko hayashi (artist who drew gay erotica) is that he was straight guy who pivoted from sci-fi & monster stuff to illustrating for gay & bdsm mags at like 50 years old because he wanted to expand his artistic horizons, and compensated by lack of lived experience by setting up a phone line for gay men to call in & recount their stories so he could illustrate them...legend

meanwhile notes put up by the guy hired by my dad to help with foreign guests at his little ryokan in rural japan (“my english is not perfect,” said the guy earnestly. “but i think i can always get the meaning across.” “great,” said my dad. “that’s all that matters.”):

I do sort of wish western anime fans would analyze anime and manga from a framework of japanese historical and cultural context. Specifically a lot of works from the 90s being influenced by the general aimlessness and ennui that a lot of people were experiencing due to the burst in the bubble economy and the national trauma caused by the sarin terrorist attack. I think in interacting with media that’s not local to our sociocultural/sociopolitical sphere it’s easy to forget that it’s influenced and shaped by the same kinds of factors that influence media within our own cultural dome and there ends up being this baseline misalignment of perception between the causative elements of a narrative and viewer interpretation of those elements. It’s a form of death of the author that i think, in some measure, hinders our ability to fully understand/come to terms with creator intent and the full scope of a work’s merits
