2021 Mitsubishi Pajero Sport Exceed Reviewed
The hulking seven-seater Mitsubishi Pajero Sport can be a little rough and ready in its execution, but there’s an undeniable charm there.
I see it immediately: the stricken look on the face of the tradie who’s just parked me in.
You see, he’s just realising now that the owner of the hulking, bullbar-wearing 2021 Mitsubishi Pajero Sport he’s parked dangerously close to isn’t, in fact, a fellow tradie, but a pregnant woman with a broken foot.
It’s too late, though – he can’t very well admit he profiled me based on my car, and can only compensate me with a sheepish smile and the good grace to avert his eyes as I desperately try to get my very big car out of a very small space.
At its core, the seven-seater Pajero Sport is an affordable family car, but it feels like it might be better suited to the kinds of families that regularly tow a boat, own a full wardrobe of Driza-Bones or holiday on a cattle farm.
That’s probably because this makes no secret of being the SUV version of the Triton ute, with utilitarian styling, a comfortable but basic cabin, and serious ride height and heavy handling. Plus, the car I’m testing here is fitted with an imposing black bullbar.
The Exceed variant on test starts at R 704,995 (including admin costs), and offers diesel power by way of its 2.4-litre, four-cylinder turbo-diesel engine and eight-speed automatic transmission.
The four-wheel-drive system allows you to switch between drive modes for optimal traction – from rear-wheel drive to on-road high-range four-wheel drive, to four-wheel drive with a locked centre differential in high-range and low-range for heavy-going.
There’s also a drive-mode selector with the option of gravel, mud, snow, sand or rock.
South Africa is reasonably well served for big, booming, body-on-frame, diesel off-roaders, including the Mitsubishi Pajero.
As far as top-spec offerings in this class go, the Mitsubishi is relatively affordable, particularly when compared with the Ford and the Toyota.
However, the other brands are worth checking out in tandem with Mitsubishi, as you might find they provide a bit more standard equipment and a more premium feel in the cabin for your spending.

Getting into the car is an exercise in athleticism, with some vaulting required to get oneself up and into the driver’s seat, greatly aided by the grab handles littered around the car’s interior. Conversely, getting out is easier, and you’ll find yourself sliding or jumping out of the driver’s seat in a cavalier fashion in no time.
Once you’re up on the proverbial throne, it feels like you’ve entered another zone entirely. You’re able to make eye contact with dual-cab ute owners and small-truck drivers, and even offer them a knowing wave.
The rear windshield is nice and tall, so you get a greater depth of view at the back, while the side mirrors are huge, meaning side visibility is excellent, too.
However, I relied heavily on the 360-degree camera that’s exclusive to the Exceed grade – and can admit that at times I would have been lost without it, particularly when parking. The view provided to the driver is a composite of a CGI-generated image of the car, paired with real-time footage from cameras placed around the vehicle.
The height of the car – it has 218mm of ground clearance – also means you don’t have to worry about kerbs or raised sections of road.
In the driver’s seat, the car has a comfortable, utilitarian vibe, with the Exceed offering a solid amount of equipment and technology, and a few measured attempts at offering a 'premium' feel.
You’d never accuse it of being luxurious, but the heated leather seats are smooth and practical with understated stitching, and the dash is accented with black gloss plastic and silver trim that keeps things looking polished.
A sizeable centre console houses two cupholders and three USB ports – two compatible with smartphones.
Hit the push-button start and there’s no mistaking this is a diesel car – the grumbling, rumbling feel in the cabin and the dull roaring noise is immediate when you’re idling, but it does tend to level out as the car gets moving.
Straight out of the gate, you’re likely to notice the steering – for me personally, it was arguably the most noteworthy feeling during my time in the Pajero Sport, and something that takes some serious getting used to.
In short: it’s notably heavy and takes brawn to manage, especially in smaller streets. However, I’m more accustomed to medium SUVs and hatchbacks with a light steering feel, so the Pajero Sport definitely felt very ute-y to me (and dual-cab owners might feel right at home).
Swinging out of parallel parks, I found I had to muster as much of my meagre upper body strength as possible to haul the big Mitsi into line.
The eight-speed transmission does a nice job of effectively shifting through gears without any hesitation or fidgeting. Meanwhile, the engine offers up 133kW of power and 430Nm of torque, and while it handles low-speed traffic well, it can feel somewhat lethargic with moderate to high throttle input.
Still, there’s ample capacity there, it performs well under pressure and it never feels underpowered – it’s just lacking that punchy, peppy feeling in the middle to upper range of acceleration. That’s not necessarily a mark against the car, however, given you’re unlikely to feel much like putting your foot down or speeding around bends.
Much of this is to do with the ride height and suspension feel, which can equate to a top-heavy, wobbly sensation when taking corners or driving over larger bumps at speeds of over 50km/h.
Otherwise, it remains a composed and comfortable car, and I feel a little bit like the princess in The Princess and the Pea by complaining about any discomfort, given you’re so far removed from the road it’s tricky to ascertain any irregularities at lower speeds.
While I didn’t venture off-road for long, dirt roads and some hilly, unpaved areas in the bush were no issue for the Pajero Sport – especially in 4H mode, which allows the car to operate in full-time four-wheel drive.
I was particularly impressed with the fuel consumption of the Pajero Sport. Around town, it sat bang on the quoted 8.0L/100km on a combined cycle, and with more freeway driving in the mix that quickly dropped to a low 7.2L/100km, which I felt was very respectable for a car of its size.
That’s a win because good fuel consumption is likely a major reason to buy a diesel car. The other key reason you’re looking at this car is cabin space, and on that front, the Pajero Sport has positives and negatives.
The middle row is well equipped with a 150W socket, two USB ports, roof-mounted air vents and an armrest with cupholders.
It’s nice and roomy in there for two people, with plenty of knee room even for lofty folks – although taller people (six-foot and above) might find their head hits the roof because the bench sits quite high in the car. Unfortunately, the middle seat in the second row is a bit narrow, so sitting three across as adults might compromise elbow room.
There are only three spots for child seats in the Pajero Sport, with ISOFIX anchorage points on each of the outboard seats in the second row, and three top-tether restraints over the back of the middle row. That means the third row can only be used for children who don't require car seats.
Obviously, the Pajero Sport is a three-row car, but getting all three rows into place with enough room for all occupants can be a bit of a logistical struggle. I found that everything didn’t fit that neatly together. Having the third row flat with the second row in action requires you to shift the middle row forward in order for things to feel well spaced.
Once again, as a woman lacking in upper body strength, I would have appreciated some electronic levers to adjust the rear rows, given the manual tabs and pulls in both the middle row and the rear row can take a bit of gusto to use (not to mention a bit of back-and-forth action to get everything where you want it).
Getting into the third row is easiest when you fold the middle-row seats forward and in half to create a clear path of entry. Once you’re in there, third-row legroom and headroom aren’t all that bad, and the sizeable windows prevent it from feeling dark and cramped.
If you want maximum cargo capacity, it is possible to fold the back two rows to create a positively cavernous compartment, but the floor isn’t entirely flat, with a slight downhill slant.
The Pajero Sport offers a full-size spare wheel under the floor and a solid – if not overachieving – list of standard equipment.
There’s active cruise with distance control, lane-change assist (which sounds an alarm if you’re veering into another vehicle but errs on the subtle side), front-seat heaters, the aforementioned overhead camera with rear sensors, and an 8.0-inch infotainment screen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
A small complaint – the car never remembered my phone when pairing with Apple CarPlay, ignoring my ‘always enable’ prompts and asking for authentication every time I plugged it in (I had the same issue with my last Mitsubishi, too).
It’s missing any form of active lane-keeping or lane-tracing to keep you centred, and there’s no head-up display, but a large digital speedometer in the centre of the driver display is large enough to compensate.
There’s also autonomous emergency braking but, fair warning, I found it quite terrifying – sounding a loud alarm and slamming the brakes on in traffic when I came a little close to a car in front at a low speed.
Mitsubishi's 10-year, 200,000km warranty is a drawcard for anyone happy to service exclusively within the Mitsubishi dealer network, but those who want to use their own mechanic will receive five years or 100,000km.
Despite initially taking issue with some of the Pajero’s less refined qualities – the steering, the fiddly rear rows, that trademark diesel grumble – I came away surprisingly charmed by this car.
It’ll have you feeling like you can tackle a rocky mountain outcrop at a moment’s notice, squeeze in a mountain of rubbish, furniture or gardening goods without fretting about space or mess, take your family (and pets) away for a weekend in the country, or simply amble around town without blowing your budget on fuel or contending with kerbs and potholes.
And even if you don’t require that bullbar around town, it adds a certain aesthetic edge (and some strong tradie energy).

Household Robot - Modelling in Maya with Final Design - 24/09/20
For today at home, I started to work on the household robot in Maya by modelling it from the ground up based off my drawings from my sketchbook of my final design and looking back on my notes and annotations to what needs to be done for the robot. In addition from working off my sketches, I also heavily used the ‘CG on Demand’ tutorials that were provided on the VLE as they really helped me out with the entire process as it allowed me to naturally come back into the CG/Maya process smoothly. However unfortunately due to the current state back at home, internet was very limited so I had to make the best of what I could gather from the tutorials as I couldn't see all of the video back at home as I was modelling as well as researching different techniques to how I could model the robot in Maya

To start making my vegetable/garlic crusher robot, I first played around with very basic shapes as this was something I planned for with my robot design in my sketchbook to make it as simple but effective at the same time. The shapes I started using were a cube, orb and cylinder which as you can see on my model, didn’t need too much modelling or altering other than a few size and height differences which were perfect as they set a good rough to how everything should be proportioned up against them. From this, I started to go ahead with the wing creation of my robot which I first started using ovals since they naturally looked like wings. However, they didn’t quite match up with my final design so I tried to delete the faces on either side of the oval to make it closer to my design which if you look at the middle image above, didn’t turn out so well as it looked a bit crumpled and very much unusable. Because of this , it influenced me to try and instead use a cube, flatten it out and stretch to make a blade which ended up being so much easier to do compared to starting with an oval design. From this rectangular blade, I adjusted the vertex points on the top edges of the blade to make them a bit wider as well as curvier around the end of them to make them as close as possible to my design. I felt with this trial and error process, I began to adjust myself more into the software which helped me become much familiar again and made it more memorable in the future in doing that process despite it taking longer.
One of the other trickier parts that I did of the robot that the trial and error process helped me with was the side handle pieces on top of the block where the screws would be placed into. It was that as well as the ‘CG on Demand’ videos that helped me understand how to create that section of the robot which was to grab an oval, delete the faces to make it so I had half of the shape in Maya and then finally extend it upwards to make the piece with a few little adjustments of changing the vertex points on it.

With the eyes of the model, they were very similar in creation to the side handle pieces that were on top of the block that’s going to be used for crushing in the animation as I ended up extruding the faces of the rough eye shape I had on previously and then made another extrude that was more inwards so that the eyes would be a lot smaller making the eyes pop when colour is being applied to them. Another thing to point out in the process of creating the robot in Maya is that I had a hard time remembering to freeze transformations and clear history for each shape for the model which led to some complications later on with the colour being applied to the model that I learned the hard way. But having done that, I’ve very much learnt to properly augment the model pieces now for the future.

The horns act very much as a little aesthetic for the household robot to give it a little menacing and mischievous vibe to the design which meant they had to be not to pointy but just enough to see that they were there. This is why I first started to use a cylinder to model the horns off the final design as I initially wanted to get as many cuts into the shape so that I had as many elements to work off to make the horn shape I desired. But similarly to when I designed the wings of the robot, the first attempt didn’t go so well as the vertex points on the cylinder didn’t stretch the way I wanted them to go. This then led me to the more obvious solution after thinking how the horn could be created which was to use a cone and change the vertex points on it to go inward into the shape making it more curvy looking. This led to the result that you can see on the model which personally looks good but I might want to tweak later to make it a bit more smoother and stream-lined.

After the horns, I then had to make the eye lids and screws on the side of the robot to make it seem like they were directly attached and engineered that way. The eye lids were very simple enough as I copied the same process for the side handle ends and applied it here to make the lids as they were very important to get right due to me wanting to experiment with animating the eye lids of the robot when it’s moving. With the screws on the side, they were simple enough to make and attach to the model except that the base where the screws were attached to was blending too much with the head of the robot making it look out of place which I re-aligned using the symmetry tool.

The very last bit of the robot to model was also the hardest as I had to make it’s unique mouth that gives the full flavor of my character off as it’s hard to give that mischievous vibe without including it. I first got an oval and start to delete the faces off to get the shape in the first image above on the left/ Then I started to adjust the vertex points to make it so it had a proper grin to it and once that was done, I extruded the mouth out and then additionally added flat cubes onto the mouth to represent the teeth of the character. Whilst I’m happy that I have something made for the robot that I can add colour and animate with, I feel the mouth needs the most re-working as i forgot to use symmetry on it to make it perfectly rounded as well as the alignment of the teeth pieces as look very crooked looking if you look at it close enough.

In conclusion, I’m definitely proud of how this model has turned out with it also being the first model I’ve ever created in the software. Whilst the design may be simple, it was almost purposefully done due to knowing that I would be making the model in Maya and having to think about the different issues and problems that would go into the model-making process which I had to do with the previous robot ideas I came up with in my sketchbook. I think some of the improvements I could of done with the model now looking at it in retrospect, I think the design of the mouth could of been a lot more refined to not only be smoother but also a lot cleaner looking as you can see how quite rough it is through my modelling process. However, this is mainly due to the fact that I had limited access the internet at the time to find out how I would be able to make such things happen for the model. Because of this, it may be something I want to refine and make look so much better later on in the project in time for the deadline as well for my portfolio later on for myself. Another improvement I may of could of done was to make little indents in the screws to make it more screw-like in visual which is something I may make later on down the project.

8 Quick Candle Spells For When You Need Magic In A Hurry

Witches love working with candles, and rightly so. Whether you’re burning sigils, performing a ritual, or simply setting the mood, having a lit candle near during spellwork is like having a little companion with you. It’s also a great visual of something happening — especially helpful for those more hands-on witches who work their magic more tactilely and less mentally.
A candle is nothing but action. It flickers with life, melts sinuously before your eyes and can set things on fire! It’s powerful, and not only that, but because of its versatility it has a lot more uses than you may realise. I want to make sure you’re getting the most out of your candles so you can use your waxy little friends to their fullest potential.
Wax & Wick
I don’t know about you, but using candles is pretty essential to my craft. If I’m trying to work a spell, you better believe I’ve got at least a few candles lit, and when I write spells, I always include a lot of them. Lately, though, I’ve cut almost everything else away except candles. While other tools are fun to have, candles are quick and more than enough for most spells. So, I want to share a few of the new ways I’ve been using them.
1. Dressing Candles
You’ve probably heard about anointing candles in oils and dressing them with herbs — it’s pretty standard. But there are so many other options beyond oil and herbs you can use! Are you a sea witch? Let the candle sit in the sun for a while to soften it, then pack it in sand. Earth witch? Do the same thing, but with loose dirt. You can crumble up another candle and roll your spell candle in the waxy dust as a way to reinforce your intention — two colours instead of one. Roll the candle in eggshells and salt to add another layer of protection in warding spells. Roll black banishing candles in cracked pepper to give your spell an extra boost.
I’ve rolled candles in loose pet fur and even used candles to crush seeds. This is a great way to save money, too. Instead of buying expensive “spell candles” with a lot of ingredients mixed into the wax, you can add exactly what you need just by rolling your candle in it. It’s also safer than burning these candles because whatever you’re rolling the candle in is on the outside of the candle and away from the flame, unlike the herbs and flowers in spell candles that are sometimes right next to it while the candle burns!
If you’re having difficulty getting elements to stick to the waxy surface of the candle, you can warm it up slightly beforehand or apply a very thin layer of diluted honey, so it’s tacky before you roll.
2. Time-Elapse Spells
It’s a long process to burn a candle down, so this method is perfect for spells that also take time — like self-improvement spells or spells for reaching a goal. Think of your candle as a timeline and divide it into different sections by making thick grooves in the candle’s surface. The spacing is up to you. If you’re doing a self-improvement spell, you may see that certain aspects are bigger problems than others and will take longer to burn away.
Likewise, with reaching a goal, certain obstacles are smaller than others. Once you’ve divided your candle up, make sure each section represents what you’re trying to banish or strengthen (intention is key here). You can write the word in the wax or apply other symbols as you see fit. As you begin this process, light the candle and let it burn through each section as you consider what needs to change, how to accomplish this, and what additional magical help you may need.
3. Carving & Cutting Candles
Another standard practice is to carve words or symbols into candles. You can take this further by carving the candle into a specific shape. This isn’t easy, and it takes practice, but it’s a lot of fun and results in a very potent magical object. If you’re doing a spell to protect a loved one, you can carve the candle into the shape of a person and give it a few defining features.
Cutting candles or snapping them is another way to symbolically link or break something. If you take a tapered candle and cut out a small section in the middle, you make a sort of nunchuck. These two candles are connected by a single wick and can be burned side by side in unison — what happens to one happens to the other. This would be good to use in spells involving siblings, spouses, or close family members.
4. Saving The Wax
Coloured candles have a LOT of dye in them. If you’ve ever gotten wax on your clothing or carpet, you’ll know that it can stain. But you can use this to your advantage by taking a candle used in a spell and, after it’s burned down, using the wax as a writing utensil. Imagine that you’ve charged a candle with a certain intention because you used it in a spell for love. That candle’s sole purpose was to help manifest something you want — it’s programmed. This magically charged, colourful wax can now be used for other things — like drawing love sigils to bolster your spell.
Have more than one colour? You’ve basically got a set of magic crayons, and if you’re creatively inclined, there is really no limit. Melt them down for altar decorations. Draw an image of what you’re trying to manifest on a piece of paper and hang it over your bed. This even works with white candles! Because watercolor is repelled by wax, you can draw beautiful sigils on paper with white wax and then paint over them with watercolour to create a beautiful little tribute to your sigil, and to keep it in mind and focus on it while you go about your day.
5. Sigil Candle
Tired of constantly re-activating sigils? When I’m making sigils, they are typically single-use. Other sigils, however, become very important and their intentions are ongoing. I use one for success that I’ve had for over two years and since being successful is something I’d like to be continuous, I draw this sigil on everything. I also used to consistently re-activate it.
The problem with this is that even though I wanted to incorporate it in my weekly altar ritual, I’d forget or get too busy and the sigil wouldn’t get burned. As you can imagine, this leads to erratic results. So instead of drawing the sigil each week and burning it (something that for me involves going outside in unpredictable weather), I simply found a way to “auto-activate” it when I burned my altar candles each week. Problem solved.
Search online for prayer candles. Helpful hint: The Dollar Tree sells them in cases of 12 for $12. They come in a lot of colours and are in 8 inch glass cylinders. Once you’ve picked a colour that matches your sigil’s intention, take some paint or a sharpie, and draw your go-to sigil on the glass. Now, whenever you’d like to activate your sigil, you can simply light the candle. It’s lovely; the glass gets warm and the wax slowly moves down the sigil. A very gentle activation that’s easy and paper free.
6. Dripping
I don’t know about you, but I buy very temperamental (read: cheap) candles. The candle goes out constantly because the wick drowns in the melting wax. This means I have to babysit my candles and pour out the overflow of wax whenever the flame is in danger of going out. I’m forever having to find containers for the wax, then dislodge the wax once it hardens, and repeat the whole annoying ordeal every week or so.
There are a lot of things you can do with leftover wax, like making new candles or just letting it pile up to create interesting altars. You can also get creative with how you drip it. On a flat surface you can drip the wax in a circle or design and, depending how you make the edges of the circle, add water to it. This gives you a lovely little lake to work spells with. Make a second circle within the first and you create a mote, within which you can perform a spell with an extra protective or strengthening layer.  
7. Reading Flames & Ceromancy
Reading candle flames is a technique often used for divination or to gauge how a spell is progressing. If the candle flame is lively and flickering and tall, then your magic is working or similarly, the answer to whatever question you’re posing is yes. If the flame is low and barely there, your magic is not working or the answer to your question is no. If the flame won’t stay lit or goes out entirely, more time or effort is required. If the candle is noisily crackling and popping, it could mean a spirit is trying to make contact.
Personally, I’m not that fond of this form of reading. I can influence the candle’s flame by simply turning on a fan or sitting in a still room. I’m not saying this isn’t a valid magic, but I do think it’s a little flimsy. Instead of reading the flames, try reading the wax — a method of divination called ceromancy.
Get a large bowl filled with water and gently stir it. While the water is in motion, add a stream of hot wax and see if you can divine anything in the shapes the wax forms. Hearts and teardrops are both significant. Does the wax spiral or just sit gently on top of the water? As the wax floats and more drips are added, what are your first impressions?
Pro-tip: Burn and drip candles of different colours when you’re first beginning with ceromancy — it makes finding the clues much easier if there is more than one colour in play.
8. Sealing
Cord, herbs, the ash from a burned sigil, and more can be combined into a small, portable, and scented disk with wax melted over it, then arranged on altars, placed on your desk or stored in the refrigerator for safe-keeping. These waxy spells can be as small or large as you like, combined with other wax spells or snapped in half if you’d like to perform a banishing or other symbolic breaking.
You can add oils before the wax hardens. You can draw shapes in the cool wax. If you’re worried about the wax breaking or becoming damaged, add your spell ingredients to a small tin before covering with wax, so everything is protected. This will also prevent your wax from accidentally re-melting all over your belongings in the heat!

Here you go @firelord-frowny ^^ hope you like, it ended up being a bit longer than a few paragraphs.. sorry if there are errors in it i missed!
   They were trying to get along, after all these years, but it wasn’t going very well as it always did. They were in the middle of an argument about the early hour that Zuko had come home during that morning. …Maybe you wouldn’t feel like shit if you didn’t spend your nights drinking your liver shot… Says the guy who has drank his liver shot already in his life… Thats when Ursa pushed… no she ‘hollered’ her son and her ‘on-and-off’ husband out the door and sent them on a mission to go find some place else to disrupt with their consistent bickering, and to stay out until they ran dry of things to argue about.
   They ended up going to that new aquarium downtown that was getting apparently stellar reviews, the one that had critters from the ocean and the fresh water. There wasn’t much to do on an Autumn Sunday mid-morning to begin with. After figuring that out, the rest of the trip across town was pretty quiet. Zuko’s headache rendered him mostly unable to keep a normal small talk going, and Ozai wasn’t much for talk any way.
   The father and son got to the aquarium along the river and right away there were too many people for their liking, even on their way inside walking from the parking lot, they noticed this. They got through the double doors and Ozai automatically made his way to the ticket kiosk and got in line. Zuko stood by and waited, his hands were resting in the front pocket of his sweatshirt, his eyes wandered around the lobby, spotting all the things that weren’t people- The decorative vines coiling around the thick wooden columns that held up the walkways full of people the next floor up. They were all contributing to a collaborative chattering white noise which echoed through the Atrium. Trying again to pick out the things that weren’t people, he looked to the upper space of the Atrium to the wide skylights. Blank, gray overcast, it wasn’t people at least. Ozai finally bought the wristband tickets, and walked back over to Zuko, dodging the crowd. He bumped Zuko out of his daze of staring up at the overcast, and handed him one of the purple wristbands made of paper. They spent a few extra minutes in the lobby before making their way into the exhibits, all because Zuko couldn’t figure out how to get the wristband hooked and needed Ozai’s help. “…I figure you would know how to get these things around your wrist after all your late night outings…” Ozai muttered, annoyed, close to his son’s face. Zuko responded with an eye roll and a “Whatever man.”
  First were the sea shore and reef exhibits, which were glass tunnels arching over the walk way. The blue behind the glass was full of vibrant schools of fish and vivid clumps of coral. Ozai was enthralled with the mocked palette of the ocean’s ecosystems, silver mackerel swarmed past the glass,color-changing eels peaked out of their hidey-holes and ducked back in at bolting speeds, blue and yellow tangs fluttered above their respective reefs. Zuko had to whisper his father’s name if he stood in one spot to long staring at the plethora of colors on the other side of the glass. Zuko got the point of it and just wanted to push further on down the tunnel, and had to urge Ozai to keep moving with him.
   Today was about the fish, not about what he did last night, so he was trying to enjoy himself and not trying to converse with Ozai too much. They walked further down the way and approached a part of the tunnel that transformed into a larger space, or a large glass bubble that held people more like. Quickly, that bubble felt closer to a glass barrier when the silhouettes of sharks passed over them as the two entered the space. They trotted over to an open spot between crowds to peer up at the enormous creatures, that were, surprisingly, just large fish in the end. But those fish had rows of razor sharp teeth and streamlined bodies with sharp edges, their masses made of muscle. Hammerheads and bulls, mako and reef sharks, they hardly seemed to care about all the human eyes gawking at them from the other side of the glass bubble. 
   “That’s metal.” Zuko said, as fascinated as he could be despite his fading hangover.    “Powerful.” Ozai corrected him, with a small smirk.
   The crowd became too dense around them, and the two moved on from their fascination with the sharks, and went on into the next room after the bubble. It was barely lit, and had smaller more assorted tanks, tall square tanks along the walls and cylinder shaped tanks in the center. They started at the first cylinder tank, which contained seahorses. Zuko immediately adored the tiny, dancing and bobbing, almost alien like animals, they were clumsy and had to hold onto the plants extending from the bottom of the tank using their curly tails for support. Ozai just shrugged at the pitiful tiny creatures.
   Zuko spoke up. “Did you know the male seahorses are the ones that get pregnant?” turning his head to Ozai.      “Uh… No… That’s… pretty bizarre.” Ozai responded.     Zuko turned his face back to the glass and leaned in a little closer, “I support you, tiny water dads.” he cooed at the seahorses. Ozai shook his head and snickered at that.
   They moved on to the other cylinder shaped tanks, one supposedly had an octopus in it which neither Ozai or Zuko could find, and the next tank had spider crabs which Ozai was immediately disinterested in, so they pressed on to the next section of the aquarium which were the fresh water exhibits. They watched the fluffy otters play, and the fresh water crocodiles do the complete opposite, they mistook the snapping turtles for rocks a couple times, and made a few bets on which snail would get to the top of the glass in its tank first, but were eventually too bored to wait and see who the winner would be.
   On the other end of the room was an enclosure with the walls of it coming up to about their waists, inside was an imitation of a pond and what you’d find in it. Some turtles and small frogs and lily pads. Small patches of dry surfaces the semi-aquatic creatures could rest on. There were koi fish floating patiently at the bottom of the pond, waiting to be fed by the guests. Most importantly, there was a family of ducks. A couple and their two ducklings. The couple bobbed in the water and quietly honked to each other like they were discussing something important, while their ducklings squeaked and wiggled and paddled their little webbed feet as hard as they could to keep up with their parents.
   Zuko leaned over the railing, almost as far as he could to get a better look at the koi fish looking back up at him as if it expected him to toss it some food pellets. They were locked in an intense stare down. Ozai kept his attention on the family of ducks bobbing across the pond. The bigger of the ducklings began nipping at it’s sibling and the smaller one squeaked in distress and paddled away to the other side of their mother, the larger sibling pursued it. The mother dipped her head in between her feuding offspring, and nudged the perpetrating duckling with her beak. Ozai almost heard his own wife saying ‘Knock it off.’ when she was trying to keep their own children settled down, and he chuckled at that thought. 
   Apparently the father duck didn’t like the sound of Ozai’s laugh because he launched himself out the water at Ozai’s face, squawking and wings flapping. Water splashed, Ozai yelped, the father duck honked in earnest. Ozai ran backwards at the sudden force of feathers attacking him and tripped, falling on his rear end, while the duck snapped his beak at Ozai’s nose and ears and eyes. It rapped its feet against his chest, and slapped its wings around his face. Ozai cussed and hollered, trying to pull the attacking creature off of him. It got a hold of his eye lid and he shrieked, the commotion him and the duck were creating was certainly the center of attention at that point. Zuko was pulled away from his stare down by the uproar and rushed to his panicking father, struggling on the floor with a face full of feathered fury. Zuko rudely pushed the man trying to assist his father off to the side because he was taking too long. He kneeled down and grabbed the duck’s legs, pulling the beast away from Ozai, and carried it back to the artificial pond, to it’s family. The duck protested with honks and flapping wings and Zuko made it to the edge of the pond and gave the animal a good toss back into the enclosure. It smacked the surface of the water creating a splash, regained his balance after a few more flaps and casually swam back to his family like nothing had happened.
   Some of the aquarium staff finally arrived at the scene, and one of the female workers offered her hand down to Ozai and she helped him back on his feet. Ozai, his hair ruffled and no longer perfectly straight, with bruises and red marks on his face, looked at the woman and politely and quickly thanked her before stomping off to the edge of the pond. Zuko turned around to his father making his way to the enclosure, probably seeking his vengeance on the duck by hollering at it from the railing. His son stood in his path to the pond, his hands up with an awkward smirk on his face.
   Ozai halted in front of his son, “Zuko, I’m ready to leave.”    “Huh, I think I am too.” Zuko grinned.
   As compensation for their troubles, the aquarium management gave them a full refund, and Zuko asked for a duckling plushy he saw at one of the kiosks along their way through the exhibits, which they graciously gave to him. Then the father and son exited the establishment and made their way back to the car, Ozai sulking and Zuko held the plushy at his side, and watched his feet step one in front of the other as he followed his father, replaying the event in his mind. Ozai tapped the unlock button on his car key, and the locks snapped open in the doors. They opened their doors and maneuvered into their seats. Ozai fiddled with the keys and put them into the ignition and turned the car on… And then he let out a tired sigh with a tinge of annoyance, and the two sat there in silence for an awkward minute. Zuko shifted his eyes back and forth between the plushy and Ozai who had his hands resting on each side of the steering wheel and his head between them. Ozai closed his eyes and shook his head from side to side and let out a throaty snort that turned into a low chuckle and looked back up at Zuko holding his duck plushy to his chest and Zuko began to giggle along with him.  
   “I guess ducks don’t like either of us.” Zuko confirmed.    “I guess not, my god!… Ozai agreed. Zuko grinned at his father.    “Lets grab a bite, preferably somewhere people won’t care too much to see my duck battle scars.” Ozai suggested.    “Right.” Zuko answered, while turning his head to look out through the windshield. Their mission assigned to them by Ursa was accomplished, for now.

Mongolian people have the believe in Cosmogony (The creation myth) which can be visually represent in circular shape this may be one of the reason why Mongolia yurt comes in cylinder shape. It in facts has lots of benefit to the vernacular living style of the Mongolian people. The landscape of Mongolia is really flat due to the reason that there isn’t any trees or high hills to stop the wind flow. The cylinder shape of the yurt keeps the yurt from blowing away with the help of aerodynamic during the windy season.
The yurt is divided into four sections with door facing to south, family altar and dining area on the North, woman’s territory on the east and men’s place on the right. Most of the wind comes from china and and because the door is facing to south and can only be open outward in when the wind blows it will keeps the door close and therefore they can protect themselves from cold air reaching in.
People usually spend their day looking after their animals, these animals are including Horse, cow, sheep, goat and camel. They use the animal as a transportation, as something to trade with another goods and as food.
The insulator are made out of animals leather and most of the time they use sheep wool and their fat. The older it is the caramelization effect on the sheep fat and therefore the more yellow the yurt is.

Back in the old age Mongolian nomads are divided into 4 condition status from poor to very rich (left to right). As you would see the richer they are the larger the yurt becomes. also the number of middle pillars in the middle and more reddish color the furniture is (Mongolia is just above China and they share some belief that re color represents the richness, luckiness and happiness)

Mongolian people believe that nature resources could only recover and renew themselves on one precondition and that is the nature resources was consumed only in one tenth that’s the reason why they choose to move and also to find better landscape that will suit their living and also their animals. They usually move at least twice a year for at least 50 km apart from where they were.
This image show some method that the Mongolian people use to transport themselves to another places. A big scale of yurt and surprisingly deconstruct into a much smaller form. Some family use oxcart, some transport the goods on the animals and some even transport the whole yurt without deconstructing.
Yurt can be very flexible in terms of how they perform in different seasons. In the windy condition they the leather string that tie the wood frame together and be loosen a little bit to let the wind form it into more ellipse shape this will make the yurts to have less direct contact surface to the wind and therefore better aerodynamic better chance of it staying onto the ground.
In summer the insulator sheet can be roll up to let the cool air comes in, circulate inside the interior and exit through the crown. In snow or rain season they tighten the leather string up to make the yurt become more narrow and to have less direct surface contact with rain drop and snow and therefore prevent water from reaching inside.

Nowadays the population of the nomads are decreasing due to the fact that climate change affect Mongolia to become much colder during winter season. Farming and animals can no longer live on the countryside and therefore people needs to move into the city for warmer temperature and better healthcare, that city is the capital city of Mongolia and it’s name is Ulaanbaartar.
Ulaanbartar is one of the most polluted city in the world and that is becauser their major energy resource are from burning coal while generating heat and while they are cooking.
Reports have stated that pollution are reduced when people move from yurt into apartments.
I’ve chosen to work on this location because the fact that the area hasn’t been permanently construct with building therefore I make some change to landscape and to the way people are living.
PHASE 2

From the previous phase we can see that the major reason why people move from the countryside to the city is because of the temperature drops. People need warmer place to live so they move into the city where it is warmer. The problem is that their major energy resource is by burning coal and by burning coal it release carbon monoxide, sulfur dioxide, nitrogen oxide and murcury which is cause some serious health problem to people inside the area.
From my point of view I see that it might be very hard to fully turn these people toward using electricity so the best we can do right now is to reduce the amount of coal to generate the same amount of heat. Instead of burning coal and let the warmth rise thought the crown I know it that it will be much efficient to make the heat radiate from the side, circulate around the interior and then exit though the crown. This inspired me to experiment with heat transfer system and how I can adapt it with the use of mongol people.

Copper is one of the best heat conduct material I’ve found. This is an experiment on how copper conduct heat though the pipe. to get the rate of heat expansion I divide the sections of copper in to 5 cm apart and for every 1 centimeter I will heat it for 1 second therefore the 50 cm length copper pipe would be heated for 50 seconds and the 300 cm one will be heath for 300 seconds.

This data collection shows the temperature rate in each section of copper once heated in terms of how fast the heat is transfer and what is the rate of heat expansion to equally heat the whole pipe.

The graph are generated from the data collection. If look closely we will see that no matter how long the pipe is we can still get the similar looking graph which means that I can use this data to calculate the copper heat performance in a larger scale such as the yurt.

The second experiment are about the radiation of heat in different length between the copper pipe
We know that the heat transfer thought the pipe actually comes from three factors the hot air pressure, the heat conduct and the radiation

The idea is that people usually do different activities in different temperature such as sleeping and eating therefore we can generate different heated areas which suit different activities of the users.
From the survey people prefer sleeping in colder temperature than when they are eating.
PHASE 3

Phase 3 is about bringing the people to the community to support each other on both individual occupation, how one job can support another and also how each people performance and the way they cluster together helps warming everybody while the surrounding is getting cold.
There are 7 main occupations for the people who live inside the yurt inside the yurt area of ulaanbaatar

The wall inside each yurt room contain a layer of water balloon. I decided to use water as a second medium to transfer heat through each part of the area. Those area with more water inside the balloon will be warmer. every balloon inside the yurt are connected together to maintain the same temperature through out the whole interior. People can make it to their personal preference by decorating their balloon with patterns.

As a cluster we can see how every yurt shared water they collected. Between the wall there is a structure that allow water to pass through but still remain strong to hold up the yurt.

Possibility of circulation both outside and inside. I want to make sure that while the yurts are connected together to form another fencing, they also provide some access to the interior area.

There are two ways or creating heat. The use of reflective concave roof and Biotic waste. The reflective roof which has concave form will reflect light energy to the center position which I created heat conductor to the ground and to the yurt walls. The Biotic wasted are the combination of animal waste and food. Furthermore when the Biotic waste has been use to generated energy what’s left over can still be use as a fertilizer for plants in the farming area.

I covered the whole area up with PVC sheet using double glazed method. This material is relatively cheap, it lets light passed through while can stop the wind and it’s also a good insulator.

New 12-inch Wilwood Discs Let You Keep Your 15-inch Wheels!
Everyone who grew up driving drum brake-equipped cars understands the enormous braking advantage of four-wheel disc brakes over four-wheel drums, or even front disc/rear drums. Average everyday newer cars are safer (no fade, lock-up, or pulling) and stop shorter from high speeds because of their four-wheel anti-lock discs. That’s why disc brake conversion kits for older drum brake-equipped cars are so popular.
By adding to your ride’s power output to enhance its acceleration—like our 1965 Coronet that’ll be receiving an 825hp Street Hemi—it makes a serious brake upgrade that much more critical. When moving up to big disc brakes, it usually means bigger, more expensive wheels to clear the calipers, but recently Wilwood redesigned its DynaLite caliper package to fit inside most 15-inch wheels. These big 12.19-inch binders are just what many enthusiasts want to keep that stock or period-correct appearance. Now you can have big disc brake performance without being stuck using 11-inchers to run 15-inch wheels!
Don’t expect four-wheel drum brakes to safely slow you down in an emergency braking situation when surrounded in traffic at high speed by today’s cars. In the 21st century, the latest run-of-the-mill vehicle has brakes that’ll stop from 60 mph in 130 feet—and sometimes much less. In past testing of four-wheel, 10-inch drum brakes using a B-Body, back-to-back 60 to 0 mph deceleration showed us 200, 250, and often over 300 feet by the third attempt due to drum brake fade. By equipping our Coronet with Wilwood’s 12.19-inch disc brakes at all four wheels, we will have fade-free, new-car style stopping power in our classic B-Body.
Prior to this, we replaced the front 10-inch drums with Wilwood Dynalite 12.19-inch discs and upgraded to Wilwood’s new four-wheel disc brake master cylinder with brake lines from Inline Tube. Those steps would be recommended precursors to the rear brake conversion here. This time, the 1968 B-body Dana 60 we just refurbished will be retrofitted with identical Wilwood Dynalite four-piston calipers and 12.19-inch rotors for a well-matched system. We want braking that will be compatible in today’s texting SUV soccer-mom world. Think of this: how many times have stupid drivers pulled out, stopped, or changed lanes in front of you for no apparent reason? That’s a good enough reason to equip your classic A- , B- , C-, or E-body with a modern disc brake system.
We’re building Project Cool Blue to be a stealthy, stock looking Coronet. We went with a Street Hemi rather than a period-correct cross-ram Race Hemi to hide the 825 hp elephant under the stock flat hood. We must note, in recent years we built and drove a project car using the Wilwood 11-inch four-wheel disc brake system. It provided us fade-free panic stops on the highway, and on the drag strip from 130 mph. These new 12.19-inch Wilwood stoppers will be that much safer. Priced at under $1,000 with the optional drilled, slotted, E-coated rotors, it’s quite a bargain when compared to other similarly equipped 11-inch kits that don’t provide the stopping power of the larger 12.19-inch rotors. The Dynalite parking brake-equipped kit we chose for our street car starts at $726.64, while the Dynalite Pro Series kit without parking brake starts at only $643.97. With either 12.19-inch kit you can have big-brake stopping power and fitment with most 15-inch wheels.
Be sure to check Wilwood’s on-line wheel clearance diagram for wheel fitment. So far the only 15-inch wheels we know of that do not fit are the factory Rallye wheels (which were cursed from the factory with center sections from 14-inch wheels). The popular cop-car wheels and most aftermarket wheels will fit. We’re still undecided on steelies or a classic five-spoke aluminum wheel. Also, please thoroughly read the Wilwood assembly instructions before attempting to install. That means the whole thing! We’ve seen friends have a hard time with the installation because they didn’t read the first four pages of important information listed before the assembly instructions that begin on page 5. Also, please follow our helpful tips we added to help make your installation a breeze.

Refurbishing a 1968 B-body Dana 60
Before ordering your rear disc brakes, measure for the axle offset to determine which brake kit will fit your 8 3/4 or Dana 60 application. Measure the outside edge of the axle housing flange to the outside edge of the axle shaft flange. Wilwood offers rear disc brake kits with 2.36-, 2.50-, and 2.72-inch axle offset for proper rotor-to-caliper alignment.
Axle offset measurement can also be made by adding the 1/8-inch (.125-inch) thickness of the drum brake backing plate. Either way, be sure the axle shaft retainer plate is tightened in place for an accurate measurement. It’s probably best to measure axle offset after the required green bearings are pressed onto the axles.
The appropriate snap-ring—style green axle bearings were installed in our previous story about refurbishing a ’68 B-body Dana 60. This rearend will be the recipient of the big Wilwood disc brakes for this install story. Seen here, the pick points to the snap ring that will reside into the relief area of the backing plate when assembled.
Fitment for most 15-inch wheels is what drove us to order Wilwood’s new Dynalite four-piston 12.19-inch disc brakes. We choose the 2.50-inch axle offset kit (part No. 140-10767-D, $842.52) featuring black Electro-Coat SRP drilled and slotted rotors. Matching black-anodized calipers with four stainless steel pistons will ensure a long service life. Note the internal parking brake that will be neatly hidden in the hat-style rotor.
We ordered Wilwood’s universal parking brake cable kit (part No. 330-9371, $129.54). It contains two 110-inch cables with a 97-inch long sheath, equalizer assembly, clevises, and hardware. After the Dana 60 rearend and suspension is installed, we’ll hook-up the stock parking brake cable to work in unison with the Wilwood kit.
From Inline Tube came these precisely bent, high-quality brake lines and hardware. The stainless steel flex line (part No. SH503, $25.00) is required for disc brakes. We’ll run drum brake hard line (part No. MFG70735A&B, $35.00 pair) to the calipers using 1/8-inch-NPT-to-3/8-inch-24 inverted flare adapters (part No. ADT11, $3.50 each). A new brass tee (part No. MTEE02, $14.00) will connect the hose to the hard lines.
Before assembly you’ll need to make fitment checks and verify measurements. First, thoroughly read through all the pages of Wilwood’s assembly instructions. We found the hat/rotor will not fit flush against the axle flange because most wheel studs have a shoulder (pointed-out). The bolt-pattern circle of the hat/rotor can be drilled from its 1/2-inch diameter to 9/16-inch for flush rotor-to-axle flange fitment.
Shown at left is the wheel stud with its shoulder that caused the hat/rotor fitment issue. In the middle is the Moroso stud (part No. MOR-46420, Summit price, $24.97, five-stud/lug kit) without the intrusive shoulder. For comparison is a no-shoulder ½-in.-20 stud we found in our old stock of wheel studs (right).
Here we can see the Moroso stud has a perfect tapered fit into the hat/rotor. Also, wheel studs will need to be at least a ¼- to 1/2-inch longer than stock because the mounting face of the hat/rotor is thicker than that of the drum. Good luck finding stock studs, plus they will not have near the shear-strength of the Moroso stud and lug setup.
To begin assembly, the O-ring and snap ring will need to be removed in order to slide the backing plate bracket assembly over the axle bearing. Reinstall the snap ring and O-ring once the backing plate is past the bearing. Here the snap ring sits properly in the relief step of the backing plate.
The bracket assembly’s backing plate needs to fit flush against the axle housing flange. Here we installed a stock steel and foam gasket for extra insurance against leakage. Before inserting the axle and backing plate assembly, we lightly coated the bearing and inside of the housing with high-temp grease.
Install the bearing retainer with the relief step facing inward towards the bearing (opposite of seen here). Secure the bearing retainer and bracket assembly to the axle housing flange using the original studs and nuts.
The five nuts are easily tightened using a 9/16 socket with a 2-3-inch extension going through the access hole in the axle flange. Secure the backing plate evenly against the axle housing flange by turning every other nut only a half turn until seated. Then torque the five nuts in a crisscross pattern to 30 lb-ft.
The center register adapter needs to fit onto the axle hub register against the axle flange with the smaller O.D. facing towards the rotor/hat. The kit’s included 2.80-inch hub register adapter was slightly too small for our Dana 60 and slew of stock and aftermarket 8 3/4 axles. Wilwood offers different size diameter adapter rings, so we ordered the 2.82-inch adapter rings (part No. 300-11338, $14.93, pair) which perfectly fit all of our axles.
Notice the rotor’s arrow is pointing forward for forward rotation. This helps you determine the left- from the right-side rotor/hat. The E-coat will protect it from corrosion, while the SRP drilled holes and slotted grooves will keep temps down to prevent brake fade.
Using both the right wheel studs and register adapter helped us center the rotor for the ultimate in stud-centric and register-centric alignment. Again be certain the rotor/hat fits flush against the axle flange or excessive rotor run-out can occur. Here we used three lug nuts with thick old Cragar wheel washers to hold the rotor/hat in place.
Before mounting the caliper onto the caliper mounting bracket, initially place two shims on each bolt to go between the caliper and bracket. Hint: It is best to have both axle brake assemblies installed before trying to center the rotor in the caliper.
Temporarily tighten the mounting bolts to view if the rotor is centered in the caliper. We used a feeler gauge to measure the gap between the brake pads on each side of the rotor.
We achieved a .040-inch gap on each side of the rotor and brake pad by removing the two shims that were between the caliper and bracket. The shims were moved over between the caliper and the bolt’s head as seen here. By retaining the two shims on each bolt, it prevented the bolts from protruding out of the clinch nut to possibly contact the rotor.
Inline Tube set us up with two brass line adapters (1/8-inch-NPT-to-female-3/8-inch-24 inverted flare) so we could run their drum-brake hard line straight to the caliper. We prefer the way it looks over a braided stainless hose.
All the components from Inline Tube are top-notch and complement the Wilwood brake system perfectly. The braided stainless flex hose is a must to handle the higher pressures produced by disc brakes and to provide a firmer brake pedal feel. Minor tweaking of the hard line was all it took to mate the drum brake lines to the calipers.
There was nearly a 1/4-inch clearance between this 1980s 15-inch cop car wheel and the new slimmed-down Wilwood Dynalite caliper. The black-oxide Moroso wheel studs and lug nuts look bitchin’ with the black wheel. Maybe we’ll run steelies in the rear with a Torque Thrust-type wheel in the front like the ’65 S/S and AFX cars did back in the day.
We’re proud of our beautiful-looking 1968 B-Body Dana 60 sporting its new Wilwood super-stoppers. It will be very rewarding to drive after all the work is done.
