MASH checklist for whether a character is a Good Person whom we as an audience should like:
how competent they are at their job
(related to point above but not always) how they treat the patients
how they treat children
#there are others but they are more optional; the above points are crucial#helen speaks#this is seen most clearly in the different antagonistic characters (margaret. charles. frank.)#and the guest characters for whom the above is a quick shortcut#also why frank wasnt 'redeemable' but charles and margaret were. because they had the core tenets of mash likeability#mash analysis#yeah this counts#this is not a commentary on whether it works. just about authorial intent.#if i had the time id write a whole post on THAT
