Every time I see someone talking about a book/game/movie/anything and they say "how can it be deep it's a (something about the genre or age demographic)" I just think of Elite Beat Agents. Because it was fun silly rhythm game of fixing problems through DANCE! but it also has the single most depressingly sad level of any video game I have ever played through
You can spot people that have played this game by blasting "You're The Inspiration" and seeing who breaks down in tears
#that fucking level man#especially if you fail it's just. fuuuck#its basically like. a guy gets in a wreck when going home on Christmas. and the level is helping his wife and daughter cope#and the good ending when you win is sad but heartwarming bc his ghost shows up and gives his daughter her gift#but the fail ending. It's basically just a spiral of 'everything is horrible and they no longer have any hope or joy'#i cannot stress enough that this game is fun high energy cuteness#there's a level where personified medicine fights germs to LaLa by Ashlee Simpson#there's a level where a baseball player becomes a role model for a kid set to The Anthem by Good Charlotte#and then there's the single most depressing thing i ever saw as a child#i hear youre the inspiration earlier and it popped into my head like buried trauma#elite beat agents
