#my friend and i were talking about this the other day#and there's something so insidious about single dad romances in a way single MOM romances never really are#the vibes in single dad romances when it comes to the heroine are very “oh hey look a ready-made family for you to mother/take care of”#and single mom romances (which are tellingly rarer) never feel that way for the heroes#and the glorification that men get for doing the bare minimum for their kids also carries over to single dad romances#and the sexualization of it all is also annoying esp when moms are not... getting that love in romance novels#and I say this as someone who has limits on kids in romance esp. when they're used to further the romance which i hate#but the romance genre is still v misogynistic in many ways#romance novels
