I HAVE to make a post about this: sakutaro hating when people make fun of his name is because he was named by his grandfather, but for some reason they remove this specific detail from the english translations
“he greatly cherishes his name as it was given to him by his grandfather, and while always acting calm and collected, he will lose his cool if people make fun of his name.”
the translation instead chalks it up to just having a lot of pride in his family, but even if that were true, this piece of information suggests it has nothing to do with tradition or social status (as I remember some early fandom characterization of morishige made it out to be) and more with how much he loved and respected his grandfather. this makes more sense especially when he doesn’t trust his parents and resents social norms.
his japanese profile on one of the websites also has some extra info regarding them
“he loved his grandfather who always by his side as a child (until his death when sakutaro was ten years old), and loves japanese sweets and tea which they used to eat together. he still treasures the name his grandfather gave him.”
his relationship with his grandfather is seemingly such an important part of his character, despite that they never provide much outside of these bits of text, but it was important enough that it’s a key point in several of his character summaries and his whole monologue in blood drive. with morishige’s dad showing up in dead patient, I wonder if maybe they’ll provide more information over morishige and his grandfather or family in general
#corpse party#sakutaro morishige#and the copa fandom wiki this whole time had it that his first name was seen as a bad omen which I could never find actual evidence for#it's a weird unmodern name for sure which is beautiful for him-- his one line in bos: 'people from this generation think I'm boring'#my theory on his name is that he was named after sakutaro hagiwara who was a real author known for depressing dark writing#as well as the son of a doctor and refused to become one himself
