Seeing all the viet clothes and viet *gestures wildly* stuff is sending my soul into the sun. As a dumb viet kid whose only knowledge about her own culture is the miniscule tidbits i can glean from my parents and the chaos during tet, oh god, looking at the beautiful clothing is starting to make me wanna start doing more research and practice drawing more that just the basic blue ao dai. Your artwork? *chefs kiss* Transcendent.
I’m very very happy to hear!! genuinely when I got back into drawing cổ phục and just fusing viet influence into fantasy stuff I realized how little materials available there are out there for independent artists, especially diaspora artists who can’t read vietnamese, to reference and work with. it’s getting better, there are a few english blogs cataloguing and translating materials now, like @vietphuc, but it’s still slow going. and I kinda want to do my share for it too, but I’m not a good translator and am really disorganized in general, so I try to. get as much out there as I can. with my art instead. if someone gets into việt phục/cách tân/cổ phục stuff because my art sparked an interest, that’s more than what I can ever ask for and I’m incredibly honored and humbled by it!
other than the blog I tagged above, I would also recommend @/haPusheen on Twitter if you use Twitter. not only does she draw incredible fantasy stuff with heavy viet influence, she also retweets a lot of art in similar vein. thank you for the very kind ask, and have fun drawing!
