my letter to the local chamber of commerce
One thing Scotland really needs is those roadside vendors selling roasted Hatch chiles. Actually I would accept any roasted mild chile. Please. 🥺
#they smell so good#they taste so good#it's truly disheartening how far I must go to get any fresh chile that's not a serrano or a jalapeño#mind you given the narrowness of the white British palate I am grateful & slightly surprised that I can get any fresh chiles at all#but this time of year always makes me miss those spinning roasters#aside: speaking of white Britain's disinterest in chiles#it's very weird to me that I can only buy substantial bags of serranos or jalapeños#ie#the supermarket will not allow one to purchase a single chile#and I have no idea what your average British person#is going to do with ~20 fresh serranos or ~6 fresh jalapeños#that's like a lifetime supply of hot chiles for these people#so they're surely discarding most of them#or I guess maybe freezing them to dole them out in a tiny trickle over their remaining years#but if the latter were true only babies (or their forward-thinking parents) would be purchasing a lifetime chile bag at this point#since practically everyone else should have theirs already#and the amount at the market suggests they're supplying a larger population than just the new babies
