The Aquarium (part 2)

"Akaashi please!!" "No Bokuto." "PLEASE AKAASHI!!!!" "We just went 4 days ago Bokuto." "Yeah! And that's too long! What if she found someone else to interact with! What if she gets a new boyfriend and I lose my chance! What if she's-" "Fine...I'll go." "HEY HEY HEY YES!! THATS THE SPIRIT AKAASHI!!" "He really likes going to the aquarium and seeing that mermaid doesn't he." Kuroo sighed as he and Akaashi watched Bokuto bolt into the doors of the local aquarium. They had been trying to get him to leave the whole idea of obsessing over the mermaid he had come to see nearly every single day since 2 months ago. He had gone to the aquarium nearly every single day, every single week, he hardly even had a few days between before he was rushing back to see her. If it was up to Akaashi, he'd say no all together but something told him that Bokuto would go on his own anyways. Not that it still wasn't popular the first time they had brought in the 'mermaid' divers. It was exhausting when they went nearly every single day after practice. Bokuto hardly ever changed out of his volleyball uniform when he was rushing out of school after practice to be here. Kuroo chuckled as he trailed off after Bokuto with a tired Akaashi following reluctantly. It wasn't that the mermaids weren't enchanting, because they were. It's just there was always one specific one that Bokuto spent hours staring at and interacting with, or he'd watch from afar as she interacted with children. Akaashi nor Kuroo knew what it was about her that drew the Captain of the Fukurodani volleyball team. But it was interesting to see him quiet himself as he approached the area the 'mysterious mermaid' swam about. Golden flowing tresses and emerald green eyes, a silver mermaid tail with butterfly fish like fins. She looked just as ethereal as she did every time they came in. Only this time instead of being alone or entertaining children, there before them was a woman who was the spitting image of her but older. The woman wore the biggest smile that seemed to brighten even more as the 'mystery mermaid' did several tricks and then blew bubbled kisses. "Oh you cheeky." The woman in the wheelchair laughed as the female within the tank seemed to giggle along with her. Her shoulders shaking as she covered her lips with a warm smile. Akaashi had never seen her there before. But he wondered if the two were related. Kuroo grinned as he knew that perhaps this was a good way for Bokuto to find out whom she was. The mermaid gently placed her hand on the glass and smiled softly but then made a motion to the surface pointing to her chest and the woman smiled warmly nodding. "Go. Up you go." The woman stated as if the mystery mermaid could hear her and the mermaid nodded quickly surfacing above. "Well. Bokuto." Kuroo murmured gently pushing him forwards. "W-what!?" The owl haired male shouted in nervousness. "Go on." Kuroo grinned cheekily and Bokuto puffed out his chest and walked up to where the mermaid he usually came to see always, had disappeared to surface. "You must be the boy she talks about." The woman stated calling out to Bokuto who froze as he had yet to completely come to her side. "Y-Yes ma'am!" Bokuto nearly shouted. "Come. I don't bite." The woman laughed playfully as Bokuto smiled rubbing the back of his head as he approached her side. Kuroo and Akaashi watched from afar as Bokuto came to the woman's side. "Um...if you don't mind me asking-" "She's my daughter." The woman told him and Bokuto's eyes widened as he offered her a bright smile. "She's a mighty fine woman. Raised her right myself. And she's caught the eyes of many, but none have seemed to be a gentleman about their...approach. Though, you, on the other hand, she's talked quite fiercely about. Never knew my daughter to do such a thing. So that tells me you're better then most." The woman told him. "I like watching her...every time I come here, she just...captures me. I-I've never approached her. But the times we've seen one another...its through a glass wall." Bokuto admitted with a chuckle. "What school is it you attend boy?” The woman questioned curiously. “Fukurodani miss.” Bokuto answered as he watched the way the woman eyed him. His eyes turned back to the tank wondering if the girl would come down soon. “Her name is Lyra, Sakamora Lyra. She gets off at 8 tonight. I expect you to be here at that exact moment she walks out those doors.” The woman told him and Bokuto’s eyes widened at her request.  “M-Miss!?” Bokuto nearly choked out in surprise but the woman only smiled as she gestured to the tank. “She’ll thank me later. She’s been curious about you. I also expect her home by no later then 11 tonight. Here is my number if there is an emergency. You’ll treat her right while you’re out tonight, right boy?” The woman grinned as the mermaid made her way towards the two and instantly Bokuto’s cheeks flushed as the mermaid’s eyes locked onto his and a warm smile broke out on her face as she waved excitedly.  “What’s your name boy?” The woman asked. “Kotaro Bokuto miss!” Bokuto answered the woman who grinned as she turned her wheel chair to leave. Giving her daughter a wave as she wheeled herself away. “Don’t forget what I said, Kotaro Bokuto...I would hate for her to be upset if you left her unattended.” The woman stated sharply and Bokuto felt his whole face engulf into flames as he quickly bowed in her direction. “I WON’T DISAPPOINT YOU MISS!!” Bokuto nearly shouted as the woman disappeared.  Once she had wheeled away Bokuto turned to the tank where the mermaid was waiting for him and he began to smile as he approached the glass pane that separated them. Kuroo and Akaashi glanced at one another then towards the woman who wheeled away. “Well that’s one way for him to get what he wanted.” Kuroo chuckled and Akaashi sighed loudly. “It’s a name. And a date. One that I don’t think he’s going to mind much.” Akaashi admitted as he slowly began to grin.  “Lyra.” Bokuto mouthed and the mermaid within the tank smiled widely as she pointed at him then made a motion for his mouth. “Bokuto.” He mouthed and the mermaid furrowed her brow then made a motion for him to repeat. “Bokuto.” He repeated and she instantly smiled as she mouthed the name back. He chuckled as he placed his hand against the pane and she did the same. She then made a motion for him to follow her and he, just like many times before, began to walk along the glass wall that separated the two of them as she swam around in the aquarium visiting with the children who seemed to enjoy her company almost as much as he did.  Bokuto finally had a name to his mermaid he always came to see. Even met her mother. And hearing what the woman had said, Bokuto couldn’t help but be happy that he was actually going to meet her face to face. He’d be able to talk to her without a glass wall between them, he’d be able to hold her hand (well only if she let him). He’d be able to hear her laugh, her voice, he’d be able to stand at her side. Bokuto couldn’t of been happier at the opportunity. Was this fate smiling down on him? Was he actually going to learn about this girl he had been fascinated about for months?  He wanted to know everything there was about her. Well...as much as he could learn in three hours. What was she like? Was she nice? Was she mean? Would she make fun of him? Would she like his voice? The questions never seemed to stop as Bokuto watched now more then ever, at how she interacted with others. No...she was too nice...she liked people it seemed. And she was so carefree within the tank...but was it a rouse? A facade? No. Bokuto didn’t think so.  The more questions he thought of, the more Bokuto began to grow excited at the thought of the opportunity he was given. Oh man. Oh man the time seemed to be flying by and as it got closer to 6pm. Bokuto could see the exhaustion lingering on the female as she made her way towards him. He then pointed to his watch then made a motion that he had to leave. Bokuto had a plan and if he wanted this to work...he needed time. She made a pouty face but then smiled instantly as she nodded waving to him as he turned away.  He would just need to call Kuroo and Akaashi to help him. The two ditched him hours ago, which he was fine with. He just needed their help if this ‘date’ was going to work the way he wanted it. What did girls like? Flowers right? He had to get her flowers...but what were her favorite? He’d find that out later. Kuroo had to know what he’d look good in right? Ugh. Dates. Preparing at last minute, was it all going to be worth it? Oh man! He hoped so!!
