today's counterstrike/windows failure is an example of why AI and machines will not be able to take our jobs.

my mum works at our local airport. picture a teeny tiny european airport about 20 minutes from the city, still using analogue methods: we have one and a half jetbridge, and it breaks quite often, and so passengers are led through the tarmac to board the airplane. a technician has to be flown in from the capital whenever there's an important issue, as there are none on site. the arrivals/departures screen broke down the other day. we could have some machinery that would make the TSA process much more smooth and efficient, and the reason we don't is because it physically doesn't fit in the terminal.

and yet, this airport is still run by people who make do. my mum's a handling agent, so she does the luggage check-in, boarding and luggage claim. she tells the story of how, some years ago, the company decided to bring in the machine that do the check-in for you. we were one of the last to get these. they were sent back because they were such a failure.

they failed because they were machines: they could only tell you that the thing you were inserting in the machine is not correct, not where you should actually have put it (example: people putting credit cards where they should have put their boarding passes), the machine cannot let you off the hook because your bag is a little overweight, the machine cannot tell you that actually, no, you only paid for the ticket, not for hold luggage. the machine cannot tell you that the reason your luggage has to be 32 kilos max is because that's the most weight somebody is allowed to lift at their workplace. a machine could only say: No. Try again.

they failed because they weren't human.

anyhow, we get to today. the airline my mum works for only has 4 daily flights, and they're to and from the capital, Madrid. fortunately for them, they did not use counterstrike. the other airlines at the airport, did. and yet, my mum's airline's flights where the only ones to run on time.

and well, you could argue that the reason for that is because they were using another cibersecurity programme. and yes, you would be correct, but i feel like we would be missing a major point.

this morning, when i got a grasp of what was going on and went to talk to her, she was just like: "we'll have to board manually then!".

when we were watching the news together, right before her shift (to see the current state of the world and airports), they showed footage of what they were doing in other airports. checking in manually, as my mum had said earlier. when we saw it, she perked up and said to us (my sister was there too): oh, it's like bingo! you write everybody's name and number down, and then when you're at the gate, you call them up and cross them off. quite simple, actually.

my point with all of this is: not everything can be optimised with brand-new tech. and when the power inevitably goes out, when the lights turn off, humans will still know how to do their jobs, will still be there, not dependent on a single point of failure.

also i talked about my scifi story for like half an hour (to myself, natch) and figured out that a good way to handle the AB thing is not to have A decide to ruin the plan out of nowhere by trying to get back to the army base, setting off the system and putting B at risk because Oh Shit. its to have A be arrested for like. hacking and shit, planetside. And, of course, they take ID in that arrest (which would place the criminal mark next to B, whose only crime has been impersonation with permission and some minor licensing shenanigans that come from that), but they also take dna/biometric data, because, yknow, Fake Ids, etc. and yknow, they get the data from A, and it shows up as them being A, and everyones like :T HMMM. A is adamant that they are B, but their colleagues who were arrested with them kinda fuck that by referring to them as A (yknow, Shenanigans).

meanwhile B is at space bace. tries to call A like they’ve been doing semi-regularly, fails. assumes theyre busy. next day, tries again, fails, decides to call their younger bro, who goes ‘yea they got arrested by the govt’ ‘they WHAT? Put mum on the line!’ and all that ensues. they don’t tell B what A did (mum says ‘i dont think im allowed to tell you’) but B is panicking. because Oh, Fuck. the best case scenario is that they assume A is B and B gets a criminal recod, but that fucks over B, who is currently pretending to be A, so like, what are they supposed to do? How long are they going to have to pretend to be A, and will they want to swap back at all if it means suddenly having a record for crimes they didn’t commit? the more likely outcome is that they figure out the switch, and oh GOD, OH NO.

Before the army base can be properly informed about the ongoing Situation (info was delayed because A demanded a lawyer, as you do) B gets sent on another mission with the squad, which helps put their actions into an emotional context. Explains why, when seeing D charge up a terrifying direct hit to a stationary C (whose ship had already been hit and was essentially ‘floating’ while she tried to manually fix one of the broken systems), B goes ‘fuck that’ and does a manual lightspeed jump to intercept the shot, which breaks through their shields and sends them fucking careening off into the void of space because getting hit at near light speed fucks you up real good. like, okay, fucking incredible maneouver, would have worked significantly better if the summonable shields for standard class weren’t Not Super Great, and also if D hadn’t fucking charged shot the bastard. fucking nyoom off into the void, 90% of the reason B fucking blacks out during that is that they got hit on an angle and fucking corkscrewed into the void like babe no amount of gravity stabilisers on the inside are gonna prevent you from wanting to vom, and thats assuming the gravity stabilisers weren’t fucked with IN THE HIT.

i guess the broad strokes is that A gets arrested, and before B can be like, questioned about it re:identity, they get fucked up real good on the last mission because part of them goes ‘if im gonna go to prison after this i might as well go to prison having saved my friends life’ and boom bitch, an unconscious pilot in a corkscrewing spaceship rocketing away from the encounter because theres noone at the wheel to hit the brakes. wild. theyre fine, as soon as L sees whats happened and processes what the FUCK just happened they basically immediately go ‘OH SHIT’ and completely disengage from the fight with D to chase after B’s runaway ship. shenanigans, etc etc, eventually everyones safe and back at base and B’s out fucking cold in the med bay and then like the resolution of that whole thing happens i guess? the fact A is not in orbit sorta messes with the original idea which is that both A and B would fly together, but A’s kinda under arrest for hacking like govt secrets of something trying to uncover the truth behind the DECAF ambush (i love that thats the acronym for the squad it kills me so bad) which means that if the story is entirely set in space, A never actually physically makes an appearance, which is hilarious. does complicate matters because its like, okay, so we’ve gotten a confession from B that they are, in fact, not A, and that they have committed that Worst of Crimes, impersonation with permission. at that point the folks have a few options. Jail B for ~crimes~, or let B continue to fly. Their squad would probably argue in their defence, with C’s testimony on the matter being particularly important from a procedural and emotional standpoint, since C has flown with both A and B. And that previously, C had something of a falling out with B where she almost accused them of being a different person. its more complex than that, but its like. yknow. turn around. willing to recognise the good in it, provided she eventually gets answers from the actual A, which B promises to set up once A isn’t, yknow, in lock up. And they’d be looking at B’s record, noting that they are a qualified pilot and attended flight school before transferring out to becoming a mechanic, that their criminal record is clean bar this shenanigannery and the confusion re: A’s hacking, and that their actual flight record during their time pretending to be A is. pretty fucking solid. Like. B has done nothing wrong aside from impersonate someone, and beyond that has just. done their job. they’ve followed orders, they’ve saved people, they’ve taken down enemy combatants, etc etc. and they go ‘you know what? we dont have the luxury of time to slot a new person into that squad to replace you, and so on, so forth, do fuck it! you can stay! but the moment things ebb, you will be on the first ship back to the planet to be dealt with’ and B’s like That’s Honestly Better than I thought that would go, so that works.

the only bit about all this thats iffy is trying to make sure A is still... relevant? that their presence, their actual presence, it felt somehow, so that all the shenanigans don’t come from nowhere. and also to have the information A obtained from The Hackening be useful somehow. like, its about the DECAF thing, and proves something about the incident, like that the space fleet knew D’s ship was active the entire time and did nothing about it, or some shit. thats the issue, cause i feel like being able to know anything about that incident requires explaining what D’s motives are, since its presumably tied into The Truth, and i dont knooow

Snow Fall

A/N: Alright so, Hi. I know it’s been a long ass time since i’ve done anything to this blog and I apologize, but I've just finished my second to last semester of University, and all my time has been going to my studies. But anyways, I was inspired to write this because, it snowed in my hometown a couple of weeks ago, and it hasn't snowed here in over 10 years. And idk i just wanted to write something with snow in it.

“Ni!” You, yelled seeing her best friend walk down the flight of stairs to the first floor of the airport! “It’s so nice to see you, it’s been so long.” You gushed taking him in for a hug.

“Its nice to see you too, Petal.” Niall smiled lifting you up, and spinning the two of you around. “Almost didn't make it, they wanted to delay the flight because there was ice on the run way. I thought it didn't get cold here.”

“It doesn't but a weird cold front is coming through today, but it’ll be gone in a couple of days. Now come on, my mom and dad are waiting for us at the restaurant, and my mom has to go into work in a couple of hours.” You explained grabbing one of Niall’s bags, before you dragged him to your car.

You, and Niall have known each other since before Niall was in One Direction, when you accidentally met on Bebo, you kept in touch as Niall’s fame rose, and you continued with your schooling. You, were only ever able to attend one One Direction concert, and it was the first time that the two of you met face to face. As cliche as it sounds, it was love at first sight for you, but you knew you didn't want to sacrifice the friendship the two of you had gained over the past couple of years and has kept those feelings to yourself. The two of you continued to keep in touch as One Direction started their hiatus, and you started on your second half of University, Niall started to visit you in your home town soon after the hiatus started. Your parents instantly took him in, they had met over face time a couple of times, and they trusted the pop star. It had been a while since he was able to visit because of the release of Flicker, and because of tour, but since the last concert was a couple of days ago, Niall had a couple of weeks of break, before he would go home to visit his family for the holidays.

“It was so nice to see you Niall, I’ll probably see you all in the morning.” Your, said bringing Niall in for a hug before she headed off to work.

“Nice to see you too, if you get too bored call (Y/N), so we can go and visit you like last time.” Niall joked as she shook her head.

“Now that we’re done with lunch, what do you plan on doing?” Your dad asked  tightening the scarf around his mouth, it had dropped a couple of degrees since they all got to the restaurant and it was starting to hail a little bit.

“I actually have my last final at 4:30, so I’m going to have to go to school to study for my final a little while more. So I don't know if you want to stay at home and chill, or come to school with me.”

“I’ll go to school with you, it’ll be fun to actually be at an American College.” Niall gushed in his best American accent, the biggest smile on his face. You shook your head, and bid your dad a bye and headed to school.

"Thats why Pop Art created a huge movement in the U.S., and started a new value system when it came to the creation of art.” You explained coming through the front door, take out hot in your hands, and Niall hot on your heels. “Dad, i’m home and with food!”

“I was about to order some food, but it looks like you read my mind. How was the drive, has the rain and ice been getting worse?” Your dad asked coming out of his room.

“It’s started to get lighter since we left the restaurant, lets hope it’ll stop by the time mom comes home. Now come on, lets eat before the food gets cold.” You said happily, taking off the tinfoil from some of the food containers. The meal was enjoyed because of how much Niall and your father talked, you looked between the two, with a smile on your face. Your dad never got this close to any of your ex-boyfriends, but Niall wasn't your boyfriend. You shook that thought out of your head seeing both Niall and you dad finish with their meal. “Hey, why don't y’all pick a movie to watch? While I clean up.”

“I’m actually heading to bed, I’ve got a doctor’s appointment early tomorrow. So goodnight, i’ll see y’all in the morning.” Your dad said giving you a hug as Niall gathered the empty take away boxes. “Make sure you use protection.” He laughed letting you go.

“Goodnight dad!” You groaned as he waved the two of you off, before going into his room. “Hey, I said I was going to clean. You’ve been through a lot today, I’ll meet you in the living room.”

“It’s no problem, besides, it still feels like I haven't talked to you today.” Niall said looking at you grabbing a couple more of the boxes. You smiled at him before you grabbed the last couple of boxes.

“Niall! Niall! Wake up!” You yelled trying to wake up your best friend from his deep slumber. “Niall please!” You pleaded one more time before you turned on the light to the guest room, where he was sleeping.

“What is it Petal?” Niall moaned, cracking open one eye to find that his best friend had left the room.

“It’s snowing! It’s fucking snowing!” You yelled pocking your head into the door way. “My mom just came from work and she woke me up to tell me it’s snowing!”

“Is it really now?” He asked sitting up from the bed, before he grabbed his phone from the night stand. “It’s almost midnight, did your mum work late again?”

“No, she was giving a friend a ride home, but thats not the point. Put on some warm clothes, and I’ll meet you outside!” You said excitedly trying to put on your Sk8-Hi Vans . Niall couldn't help but laugh at the sight of his best friend, you were wearing two sweaters, a beanie, some leggings with fleece on the inside, and two pairs of fluffy socks. Niall took his time getting ready, since he had just come in from London, so he was prepared for cold weather, and because snow wasn't a foreign concept to him.

“Oh, geez, its really chucking it down isn't it?” Niall asked opening the front door to your house, to find a good inch or two of snow covering the ground and the palm trees that your parents had in the front yard.

“Yeah, it was just ice earlier, but now it’s finally snow.” Your mom commented taking a sip of her coffee, clearly trying to defrost from the cold. “We haven't gotten snow since Christmas Eve 2003, so something like this is rare for us.” She explained looking back at her husband who was drinking his own coffee.

“Niall come on!” You yelled grabbing chunks of snow off your car trying to make a small snowman.

“Alright, alright.” He laughed walking over to you. “Geeze I haven't seen you this excited since your first One Direction concert.”

“I’ve never see it snow like this. Niall, this doesn't happen here!” You yelled into the night, the snow fall dancing around you. “Its absolutely beautiful.”

“Yeah it is, here’s some gloves. Put them on before you get frost bite or something.” Niall chuckled putting them on your cold hands. “You got lucky that I brought some extra, at least I know what to get your for Christmas now.”

“This is the first time that it’s snowed here in over 10 years, you don't need to buy me gloves Ni.” You smiled looking down at the warm gloves in your hands. “Now come on, help me build a snowman!”

“Alright, alright.” Niall laughed, while he wasn't the biggest fan of the cold, and much less the snow, he saw why you were enjoying it so much. The rosiness in your cheeks and on your nose made Niall smile, and cause his own cheeks to turn red. Seeing you this happy made butterflies erupt in his stomach, he’d seen you at your best, and your worst, this was on another level of best, and made him start to think. Would the butterflies still be there, if someone else was making you smile like this? No, he knew he wanted to be the one to make you smile from ear to ear. “What the hell?” Niall yelled feeling a snowball hit him in the side of the head, taking him out of his day dream.

“I’ve been calling you for a while now Ni, gotta pay attention!” You laughed, a mischievous smile on your face, and another snowball ready to throw in your hand.

“You better watch yourself there Petal, I have more experience in snow than you do.” Niall laughed, quickly making a snowball before throwing it at you. Missing, you quickly threw the snowball in hand and hid behind your car, grabbing more snow as you went.

“Snowball fight!” You screamed, not even throwing snowballs anymore, any amount of snow you got in your hands was enough for you. It didn't take long for you to realize that Niall was no longer in your front yard, you looked for his footprints but they had already been buried under another blanket of snow. “Niall?” You called looking for him.

“Got yah!” Niall yelled from behind you, before lifting you over his shoulder.

“Ni! Let me down!”

“Oh, you want to get down do you? Alright.” Niall laughed before he put you on the cold ground.

“Niall! Its cold!” You yelled laughing looking up at Niall who was standing over you. Your heart skipped a beat at the sight, the snow flakes in his hair twinkled like stars in the night sky. Smoke filled the air as he continued to laugh, his cheeks and nose turning a scarlet color because of the frost falling onto his cheeks.

“What you looking at there (Y/N)?” Niall asked helping you up from the ground. “Did you hit your head? I didn't mean to!”

“No, no no. I’m fine. Just trying to get over the fact that you tossed me onto the cold hard ground.” You said grabbing his hand, helping yourself up.

“Oh, trouble!” Niall sang holding onto you, making sure you didn't slip.

“Only you would make a Taylor Swift reference.” You laughed pushing him, not realizing he was putting all his weight on a slab of ice.

“Oh, shi-” Niall started before he fell back onto the snow covered ground, taking you with him. It took a minute until the two of you laughed at each other. 

“Oh and you have the advantage over me, but you were the one to fall over a little ice.” You laughed at Niall who was covering his face with his hands, laughing like a mad man.

“You're the one who pushed me Petal!” Niall said leaning on his elbows, not realizing you were still in the same place, now a couple of inches away from each other. Blushing, you leaned away, not wanting to do something that you would regret. What happened next caught you off guard. 

Niall leaned up, closing the gap between the two of you, kissing you gently. It took a couple of seconds before Niall leaned away, his face scarlet.

“I’m sorry! I’ve been wanting to do that in a long time, but I wasn't sure you wanted it too. I’m so so-” Niall started, before you leaned back down kissing him before he could say anything else.

“Who said that I didn't want to kiss you back there Ni?” You smiled looking down at your best friend, your cheeks scarlet at both of your confessions. “I’ve liked you for so long, its become second nature to love you now.”

“Same here Petal.” Niall grinned before he sat up, you still in his lap. “So would you like to be my girlfriend?” You nodded at his question, gaining another kiss from Niall. “Good, cause I told mum that I was bringing my girlfriend over for Christmas.”

“Wait, you were taking me to Ireland for Christmas...”

“I was going to ask you tomorrow after we went to go eat, but the snow fall helped me gain some courage.” Niall confessed, stroking your hot cheek. You shook your head before you wrapped your arms around Niall’s neck, bringing him in for another kiss.

A/N: Ahhhhh, this is a marvellous idea and lmaoooo I'm actually writing this on the plane ride home. I was only delayed for two hours sitting on the tarmac and then a nine hour flight home!!! Let’s just say, it’s been a long day. And tbh I literally would never write this on a plane (usually) but I got lucky and there’s nobody sitting on either side of me or behind me WOW so here I am, somewhere over the Atlantic Ocean (actually I'm probably over France rn) writing about you guys and fucking Peter Parker.

The lovely Peter Parker and yourself had been best friends for quite sometime and boy were you both pining over each other. Extremely pining.

It was a lot of almost but not completely’s. Which annoyed the hell out of you. But I mean, Peter also annoyed the hell out of you.

You loved the boy, but he was needy. (Lol you love it).

You had just finished your third year of high school when you and Peter decided that you needed to go on a road trip.

Meaning that Peter begged you to take a road trip with him. By then, he had passed his driver’s test and was ready to go on the road.

In the middle of July, you and Peter climbed into May’s car and began making your way to Niagara Falls.

It was seven in the morning and Peter had pulled up in front of your building in May’s car.

Peter jumped out and grabbed your bag and threw it into the trunk, rushing back around to open the car door for you. “Good morning, Y/N,” 

“Well it looks like someone is in a good mood,” 

“Of course I'm in a good mood, i’m excited! Aren’t you excited? We’re finally going on the road trip!” 

“Yes, Peter, I’m very excited,” you laughed. 

“Ive never been Niagara Falls, what do you think it’s like? And how long until we get there? You know I'm not good on long drives,” 

“Oh my god, Peter. Okay, Niagara Falls is very nice, you’ll love it. It’s about six and a half hours but because we’ll get caught in rush hour it’ll probably be closer to eight,” you answered.

“Then let’s go,” Peter smiled, putting the car into drive, heading towards the highway.

You were not at all surprised how simultaneously prepared and unprepared Peter was for this trip.

The boy had multiple road trip playlists and a few sugary treats but that was it. You of course were the one who thought to bring water, healthier snacks, tissues, etc.

Ten minutes into the trip he started diving into his snacks

You would spend so much time just staring at the boy while he tried to focus on driving

At one point you pull off the highway into a small town to get gas

The windows were rolled down and you began sneezing like crazy

You were hunched over in the passenger seat, laughing your ass off in between your wild sneezes

When you stopped for gas you wanted to get out and take pictures but you knew you would just sneeze and not get any good pictures so you stayed in the car and took pictures of Peter pumping the gas without him noticing

JinJin-Birthmark Soulmate AU

Note: Sorry it’s a bit lengthy. Excuse my grammar and spelling mistakes please! It’s my first time writing something like this but I hope you enjoy it!     

Globally everyone knew that soulmates were real, but everyone also knew how rare it would be to find their soulmate. During the early 1900’s was when the idea of soulmates was discovered to be real. In the following decades only one or two soulmates found each other. After traveling had become more convenient did that number rise but only slightly. In the past decade, only five couples had found there soulmates. (Of course those were the known ones). Since so few soulmates actually found each other little was known about it and some even thought it to be a hoax.

“Y/n! I found Astro’s new episode of Weekly Idol with english subs for you! Stop staring at your birth mark!” Mae yelled at you. With Astro’s newest comeback and the most recent events to happen you imagined what if JinJin was your soulmate! “As if that would happen. Especially with an idol thats never happened” you laugh to yourself as you hide the birthmark on your left shoulder.     

“Did you hear about the soulmates that found each a few years ago?” Mae asked. You gave her a look to say “no duh~”. You and Mae have been friends since first year of high school and it wasn’t till senior year that you both became best friends. By some string of fate you both ended up attending the same college and your friendship has only grown stronger. She introduced Running Man to you and after that even introduced kpop to you. (well technically you got into kpop because you discovered a group after watching a web drama) “Well..” she continued “… apparently they finally agreed to talk to the scientists and the press! Do you know what this means?? Its finally confirmed what happens when soulmates meet each other!” Mae was not one for sappy, cliche, cheesy love stories but she did find the idea of soulmates an interesting topic to discover. You raised yours brows and went wide eyed. She continued to skim the article and finally spoke. “Ok so we all know every soulmate has matching birthmarks but on opposite sides of the body… Apparently they said the first time they met it was like static and all of a sudden both their birthmarks began to hurt and when they checked for their birthmark on their hands it had gone away!” You laughed in amusement at her excitement and brought your attention to your own laptop to continue the subbed episode she had found for you.     

You completely fell in love with Astro. When Mae had realized you were more open to the world of Kpop when you had discovered the new rookie group so she began to show you videos of a group she liked, KNK. But all the videos she ever showed you included a cheerful, hyper and bright group… Astro. Once you checked out their MVs on youtube and listened to their debut song “Hide and Seek” you fell for them… HARD; and continued to watch videos on your own. “y/n, did you check your status on the study abroad? I just checked mine and I got accepted to the Seoul, Korea program!” You and Mae had been planning to do study abroad at the same time but had differences in interests. You, Japan. Her, Korea. But due to her constant begging and persuasion, you also applied for the Seoul, Korea program. You sighed as you checked your email. “I didn’t get accepted to the Japan program… BUT! I got into the Seoul!” You both began to jump up and down and started planning the details.

After the long flight the two of you were finally getting off the plane. Even with the jet lag and all the delays, you were both completely awake and excited. “I can’t believe we’re finally here!” Mae was jumping up and down with glee as the two of you walked to customs. “I can’t believe both Astro AND Seventeen will have concerts while we’re here!” “What if you ran into your U/B~?” You sang in a sing-song voice and laughed. As you quickly dodge her slap to your arm, you take a step back and accidentally bump back-to-back with someone and feel a slight shock.     

Immediately, you turn around and slightly bow as you apologize. “Ah… Sumimasen… I mean! I’m sorry!… I mean… ah…” As you continued to forget how to say sorry in Korean your face and ears began to turn completely red. You quickly glance at the person but in embarrassment look back down to the floor. The man had a mask and black baseball cap on and in your opinion had good fashion sense.     

He giggled and with a deep voice and accent said “It’s ok.” The two of you turn around and walk opposite ways. Mae continues to tease you and laugh at the run in but your mind was off in the clouds as you try to rub away the shocking feeling on your shoulder and the odd feeling that you had met the person before.

“Jin Jin Hyung! Hyung! Hyung! Jin Jin Ah!” “Ya!” Jin Jin yelled as he hit his annoying maknae. Jin Jin and the rest of Astro (along with some of the staff) were on the way to the gate for their flight for an overseas concert and as usual Sanha was annoying Jin Jin.

“I can’t believe we’re on our way to another overseas concert. It feels like we just had our Dream Pt.1 concert not long ago.” Eunwoo continued to reminisce aloud. Everyone began to mess with him and laugh. Jin Jin began to laugh hard and lost balance causing him to take a step back. Running into someone. As he turned around he immediately said sorry but began to laugh at the girl’s reaction. “Ah… Sumimasen… I mean! I’m sorry!… I mean… ah…” Seeing how she reacted he figured she did not recognize him and began to laugh at how flustered she was. “It’s ok.” He replied and turned to continue walking. Without the rest of the group noticing he looked back at the girl and caught a quick glimpse of her face.

“She’s cute” he thought as he turned back to the rest of the group and rubbed the pain in his right shoulder.

The six weeks of classes and field trips was coming to an end. You and Mae were busy studying for finals and planning the next three weeks before you go back home.
 “Ok so I already bought the tickets for the Seventeen concert and Astro concert. We didn’t get into the fan signing event for Seventeen, but we got into the Astro one!” Mae was sad that we couldn’t go to the Seventeen fan sign event but was excited for you. “How’s your shoulder doing by the way?” she asked as she went back to her studying. For the past six weeks your shoulder had an uncomfortable numbness to it ever since that run in at the airport.    

“WAIT! What if that was your soulmate! What if the guy you bumped into at the airport was your soulmate? Maybe thats why he was so familiar to you?” Mae suddenly jumped up causing you to fall off your chair in shock. “Ha! As if that would happen. You know its rare to find your soulmate and even if it was him I doubt I’d ever see him again.” You calmly respond as you get back on your chair. “Maybe its still hurting because he’s nearby. I’m telling you! Before we leave Korea you’ll meet your soulmate again.” Ignoring her comment you both go back to studying.

“Hyung can you check my shoulder again? The pain is still there.” Jin Jin asked MJ as he pulled the right side of his shirt down. “Jin Jin the doctors said there was nothing wrong with it. Maybe you’re working out too much or adding too much weight to the bars.” “No I’m not! I haven’t even gotten the chance to work out that much these past few weeks.”

MJ quickly ran out their shared bedroom door and checked the rest of the dorm if the other members were there. “JIN JIN!” he yelled as he ran back in shutting the door and locking it. Jin Jin was shocked as MJ suddenly forced Jin Jin’s shirt off “Hyung! What are you doing!?” “Look at your shoulder!” Jin Jin did just as his hyung told him to do. His eyes opened wide and his mouth agape. “My birthmark! Its faded!”    

“Do you know what this means? It means that you’ve run into your soulmate! Do you know when the pain started?” MJ began to jump up and down the room. “Hyung! Hyung! Calm down! I think it started when I ran into that girl at the airport on our way to the overseas concert… We don’t know if this is for sure because of my soulmate. It could just look like it’s faded…” Still in disbelief he sat there in shock. MJ noticing his friend’s reaction quietly sat down next to him. “What’s wrong?” He asked calmly.

“I don’t know hyung… What if this affects our popularity? What if the others get disappointed in me? What if I get kicked out of Astro? What if I ruin her life with the publicity? What if it doesn’t work out? I mean we’re idols we have busy lives. What if she doesn’t like me or want to see me? I mean its not like I’d be able to see her again anyways right?…” He took a deep breath and sighed. “Hyung I don’t know what do. Theres so much going through my mind right now… Can we keep this a secret from the rest of the group?” MJ nodded as he placed Jin Jin’s head on his shoulder and hugged him.

“I’m so excited! Aren’t you excited y/n????” Mae asked hitting your arm. “Ow! You know my shoulder is hurting yet you keep hitting me.” You cried. It was the week before you leave to go home and the two of you were counting down the days. You had gone to both Seventeen and Astro’s concerts and now it was the final day you were really excited about. Astro’s fan signing event. She apologized and and looked at you with worry. “I’m fine. Don’t worry about it. It’s just hurting a lot more than usual for some reason.” You sighed and finally got excited. “Look they’re finally letting us in!”

“Hyung~ are you sure you’re ok?” Sanha continued to whine. “For the tenth time, IM FINE SANHA!” Jin Jin yelled as he rubbed his shoulder. “Don’t worry. I can smile to the fans.” he calmly told his manager. They went out on the stage with smiles on their faces as they waved to the screaming crowd. After taking their seats (from youngest to oldest), the manager got the crowd to calm down and get in a line. One girl caught Jin Jin’s eye. You. But he didn’t know why and just went back to greeting and talking to the fans currently in front of him.

You began to fan girl as you got closer and closer to the members. “What if i forget what I’m gonna say to them?? Or if I forget to give my gift??” You began to panic and Mae laughed in amusement. “Thats why you have the note cards to read it or to show it to them if they don’t understand you and I doubt you’ll forget to give your gift. If anything I’ll be right after you to remind you.” As you got closer and closer your nerves got stronger and so did the pain in your shoulder.

Finally you got to Sanha. He was amused with how hard you tried to speak in Korean and he tried to respond to english which made both of you laugh. Rocky was confused so he read your note card and laughed and helped teach you how to pronounce each word. Moonbin was so happy when you gave him a box of chocolate from back home. Eunwoo told you to be comfortable and just talk in english so that “he could practice” (but you know he was just being considerate. Finally it was Jin Jin’s turn. You felt your heart beating uncontrollably as the nerves got multiplied by a 100.

Jin Jin watched as the girl came closer and closer and suddenly she was right in front of him. He couldn’t help but smile larger than he had with the other fans. He noticed the note cards in his hand and silently laughed to himself. He didn’t understand why but this girl amused him so much.

“Hi!” He smiled at you. “It’s ok. You can speak english.” A part of you was relieved and you began to talk to him calmly. “Mianhae. I was here for study abroad but my Korean is still bad.” You said shyly barely able to look at him. “My name is y/n.” He just continued to smile and stare at you as he finished signing your album. For some reason he was so happy and star struck by you he couldn’t speak. “It was nice to meet you y/n. Thank you for coming.” He finally said as he reached his hand out to you for a high-five. “I’m really glad I got to meet you in person” You said with a smile as you got up reached your hand out. As the two of you interlocked hands a sudden pain shot through the both of you. Both of you let go causing you to pass out and fall to the ground. Jin Jin was scream in pain as he held his shoulder trying to stay in his chair.

You slowly wake up. As your vision and hearing becomes clear you notice you are lying down on a couch. Clothes, make up kits, snacks, and other equipment fill the room you are in. “Oh y/n, you’re awake!” Mae comes running up to you from the snacks table and hands you bottled water. “Where are we? What happened?” you ask as you drink the water. “We’re in the dressing room. You passed out after you and Jin Jin suddenly started to cry out in pain… Don’t worry about Jin Jin. They brought him back here when they brought you and checked his shoulder… Y/n… I overheard them say his birthmark disappeared.” You opened your eyes wide and rushed to check your shoulder. Mae gasped and you opened your mouth in shock. Your birthmark was gone too. You could not believe this was happening. The fact that not only did you find your soulmate but that your soulmate was your ultimate bias was unfathomable. Just as you were about to say something Astro’s manager walked into the room with a person wearing a “Translator” badge.     

“Was your birthmark on your left shoulder?” You nodded. “I don’t know if your friend told you but, Jin Jin’s was on his shoulder too and it disappeared after the scene the two of you caused.” He sighed and scratched the back of his neck. “Since this is the first time this has happened to an idol we honestly don’t know what to do. While I am contacting the CEO about the incident the two of you will wait here. Jin Jin will come after the fan signing has ended.” After the two of you nod your heads, both the manager and the translator walk out of the room, leaving the two of you to process what has happened.

The event was finally over. You could tell because all the staff were rushing around packing and cleaning. You could hear the faint cheers coming from the other side of the door. You and Mae sat in silence, as she figured from your expression that you needed it.     

Finally, everything was quiet. All the staff had packed up the equipment and make up leaving the clothes and other random things in the room and left. Past the door was silent for what seemed like forever. Until finally you could hear faint whispers in Korean which Mae also heard and whispered the translation to you, “Just go in there already!… I’m sure she’s just as nervous as you are but don’t you realize how exciting this is? How happy you would be and how happy all of us would be for you??” The whispers became louder as he continued to talk. “But hyung…” “No! No buts! For once don’t worry about what will happen and just take this chance to be happy for yourself. If its the universe’s work then I’m sure the universe will make sure everything will work out.”     

You were moved by MJ’s advice to Jin Jin. (and yes you know it’s MJ cuz of course he can’t keep his voice down haha) You take a deep breath as you hear them open the door. Jin Jin is first through the door and as you make eye contact it was like all your nerves and worries faded away. He walks in, MJ following behind him, and walks towards you. By some odd reason you got up from the couch and ran into his embrace. He twirled you giggling and when he finally set you down the two of you make eye contact again both smiling happily. Your faces slowly (by the same odd force that made you get up and run to him) got closer. Lips almost touching until…     

“Eh hem” both Mae and MJ cleared their throats. You both suddenly realized what had happened, took a step back from each other with heads bowed to the ground and ears and face completely red. Mae and MJ began to laugh at the two of you. “HYUNG!” “MAE!” you both yelled at the same time you look at each other and began to laugh.

After all four of you had calmed down, Jin Jin went up to you and politely reached his hand out to you for a handshake. “I’m Jinwoo…” he laughed awkwardly. “I’m y/n” you giggled back as you shook his hand. The two of you smiled at each other staring into the other’s eyes, still holding hands. “Um… I can somewhat translate for you guys if you have trouble saying something in the other’s language…” Mae suggested to the both of you in English and Korean.     

The two of you sat on the couch next to each other with an awkward distance in-between. MJ and Mae pulled up chairs to sit in front of the two of you. Jin Jin just stared at you with his puppy dog eyes making you blush and look away. MJ (feeling awkward by Jin Jin’s actions decides to speak up “um… It’s a little late to say this but… Hi! I’m MyungJun… How much longer will the two of you be here in Korea?” Mae surprised by the question answers it herself after translating it. “We leave Friday of next week…”     

“EHHHH???” Jin Jin snapped out of his stare and went into panic causing him to speak faster than Mae can understand. He jumped up and pulled you up into his embrace. “We just met and you already leave next week???” You could feel the blood rush to his face and the small drops of tears forming in his eyes. “y/n, I have so many worries and responsibilities and stress with being part of Astro and meeting you. I just want to tell of them to you. Rant to you. Figure out how to make things work. I don’t even know if you like me to begin with.”     

You strengthened your embrace and told him “Of course I like you! You’ve always been my ultimate bias!” you chuckled. “It’s ok. Don’t worry about everything else. We’ll figure it out over time.” Your warm voice caused him to almost break into tears. You look up and notice that MJ and Mae had been looking at the two of you in shock. You gave Mae a confused face. In turn she responded “y/n… You just spoke in fluent Korean…” “Jin Jin you spoke in English!” MJ exclaimed. You two take a step back from your embrace unsure why but both happily accept what had happened. You could not only completely speak and understand Korean but most importantly be able to communicate with Jin Jin and the same was for him.     

Suddenly the door slammed wide open. The other four members of Astro came rushing in. Jin Jin suddenly pulled you and Mae behind him and MJ and bowed to them. Suddenly he went from being happy to sad. His whole body shaking as he struggled to speak. “I’m sorry…” He began to shake more tears flowing down his cheeks. He continued to apologize over and over. The others said nothing. Eunwoo, followed by Moonbin and then the rest surrounded him and hugged him. Eunwoo broke the silence with a shaky voice “Hyung! Why are you crying! You’ll make the rest of us cry.” “Ya! Jin Jin hyung, your supposed to be happy! We’re happy for you!” Moonbin said as he jokingly hit Jin Jin’s arm. “Like I told you before dummy! Don’t worry about what will happen. We’re all happy for you and whatever happens happens. We’ll all get through this. You’ll get through this and now you have another special person in your life to be there for you… Jin Jin, stop putting all the pressure on yourself. We’re all here for you.” Jin Jin cried in their embrace for a good 10 min.

Jin Jin finally calmed down. Eunwoo hit him on the arm as they dispersed from their huddle. “Hyung! Introduce us to her!” All of their attention suddenly went to you. Sanha suddenly ran up right to your face and started to wave at you. “Hi, I’m Sanha!… Ah! I remember you!” Rocky pulled Sanha back to give you space and said “Hi I’m Minhyuk but you can keep calling me Rocky if you want.” Moonbin and Eunwoo walked up next to Rocky. “I’m Dongmin but you can keep calling me Eunwoo if you want.” “I’m Moonbin! Thank you for the chocolates again!” Moonbin hugged you. “YA! That’s my soulmate! Give her some space.” Jin Jin began to nag at them as he pulled them to the other side of the room.     

All their love and care for each other that you watched from your computer screen was happening right in front of you and it made you happy. You began to laugh making them move their attention to you once again. “It’s nice to meet all of you. I’m y/n” you smiled at them. They were shocked hy your sudden fluency in Korean so Jin Jin explained what happened.     

“Waaaah! NOONA IS SO NICE! You don’t deserve her hyung. Your the opposite. Your mean.” Sanha stuck his tung out playfully at Jin Jin earning him a punch and a kick from him. “See noona! Jin Jin hyung is mean to me!” he yelled as he ran behind you.

The eight of you became comfortable after that talking and laughing. You felt all your worries go away until… “Noona, when do you leave?” Eunwoo asked you sitting on the couch. “Oh… We leave next week Friday…” Everyone suddenly became quiet when they heard your response. Moonbin looked over to Jin Jin with concern. “Hyung…” He was interrupted by a knock on the door. All the members of Astro stopped what they were doing and politely greeted their manager and those that filed in after him; the translator and another person, the CEO of Fantagio. MJ, who was standing near you, whispered to you and Mae who he was, causing the two of you to quickly get up and properly greet him. We know its complicated especially because this is the first time it has happened to an idol.” Jin Jin quickly stated and then bowed his head down. The CEO sighed and scratched the back of his head. “What do you think should happen?” he asked. Confidently you tell him “I leave next week friday to go home. If possible… I think we would both want to spend as much time together as possible before then… I don’t want Jin Jin to give up or be kicked out of Astro. He has a lot of fans and Astro wouldn’t be the same without him. If thats what being together means then… I’d rather sacrifice being together so he can stay in Astro and shine like the star I know he is.” You just looked at the manager and the CEO both with poker faces on. Jin Jin looked at you with admiration and affection. He couldn’t believe you had said that with confidence.     

“For now our priority is to avoid a scandal. Obviously after the scene the two of you created earlier, the internet is already spreading with curiosity and rumors. While we wait for that incident to calm down, we will be thinking over all the possibilities.” He sighed and said with full sincerity in his voice. “To be honest, removing Jin Jin from Astro is the worst thing we would want to do. Until we make a decision we will allow the two of you to spend time together while you are here but, with our approval as to avoid scandal. Also, until we make a decision we will allow you to keep in contact after you leave.” Jin Jin takes your hand and smiles to you making you smile back. “y/n. Jinwoo. You must agree that you understand whatever our decision ends up being that both of you will accept it. y/n. You must also acknowledge that you understand whatever may happen will for sure change your life. Are you willing to accept it?” You and Jin Jin look to each other. “Yes I am acknowledging and accepting.” “If y/n is willing to accept it then… Yes.”     

Happy with the outcome of the talk the CEO and manager get up and walk out the door. Jin Jin faced you and took both of your hands in his as he stared into your eyes. “Y/n… I don’t know what will happen. But, I do know I want to make the most the time we have together right now and no matter what may happen. I want you to know that I love you.” You couldn’t help but giggle. “I love you too!” He leaned in to kiss you but was cut short. “EEEEEEWWWWW!” “Jin Jin hyung there’s an innocent baby here!” One by one the members continued to add to their complaints. As Jin Jin went to go get mad at his younger brothers you went over to Mae both of you giggling. “I’m happy I didn’t get accepted into the Japan program… I guess it is possible to find a soulmate huh?” She laughed and nudged her shoulder to yours. “I told you it was.”

Writing this 7 months later.

I cant believe I didn't write about this when it happened but I was at dinner tonight and was asked about you, I told this story that I have told a hundred times but for some crazy reason, I smiled through the whole thing and knew that I had to write it all down.

I was on vacation in Hilton head and i was heading back home to Chicago. we headed to the savannah airport and flying made it on my flight to Atlanta, which was going to take me to chicago. it was a risky flight because it was the last flight out of atlanta heading to chicago. the flight looked clear enough so i figured i had a good chance. get to atlanta and made it to my gate.

— rewind. i need to preface something. earlier that day a lizard fell on my and i screamed so damn loud that my vocal cords literally shredded. and it felt like my tonsils were swollen and it hurt to swallow, yawn and talk. so i was actually in a lot of pain.

so i land in Atlanta and we go grab something to eat and i ran to find hot tea so help soothe my throat. voice raspy as hell. so i get to my gate and see that there are literally 0 seats left and i am number 2 on standby. some girl is in front of me… i did have some bad thoughts on how i hope she wouldn't be able to get on this flight. i had to be at work the next day so I'm allowed to think these things!!!

some flights coming in were delayed getting in because there was a storm so then i was praying that people on those flights wouldn't make it to the gate. yes I'm horrible i know but i don't care. i see this woman running to get on the plane and I'm over here like damnit. and then i see this guy make it on and im over here like ugh great everyone is going to make their flight. now i have to get a hotel here and wait until the morning to get to Chicago. and then the best thing in the world happens!!! THEY DEBOARD THE PASSENGERS OFF THE FLIGHT! I mean yeah it sucks for those people but I have a seat on the plane now!! hell yeah!!! I asked this guy why everyone was getting off and he said that there were bad storms around Chicago and they are delaying the flight 5 hours. And then I overheard this guy go, “ girl were not waiting, lets go get a hotel in hotlanta” and I was like, yes!!! thats two people off the flight, I'm getting on!

So i settle to sit down and I'm now seeing the numbers on the screen for the seats available go up and i am so excited. i go up to the gate agent and wait in line to ask her for my new ticket. theres this guy in front of me that might i add, looks really good from behind and is the guy that i saw running on the plane earlier, talking to her trying to figure out if he can fly into midway or any other airport to get him to Chicago. i didn't think anything of the reason why, just another person trying to get out of Atlanta which i totally understand. the lady asked me what i needed and i said my new ticket and she told me to grab it later, that all standby was cleared. thank god i am on the flight. i went to sit back down and yes if you're wondering, i kept my eyes on him, totally not being obvious though so don't worry. i saw him talking on the phone to someone, and then he disappeared which was a bummer but it's okay because i made a new friend.

i swear 3 hours later i was slap happy because i was so exhausted. all the food places had closed too so that was stupid. found out later that the sky club was open later than usual… anyways, after we tried breaking into break rooms to find a vending machine we headed back towards the gate. we had made friends with a flight attendant earlier that night, to try and pry some information out of him. so we find him by the gate and found someone else there too. if ya know what i mean. yes okay ill tell you it was the guy from earlier. he also has bomb ass hair so theres that. so my friend goes “oh my gosh you are so cute” and then proceed to go” i know right, isn't he” like what the hell. yes i am very forward but what kind of level was i on. but just wait.. it gets worse. but like a good kinda worse not like a this is horrible kinda worse. if you thought that was forward, then you don't know me. my friend asks him if he has a girlfriend and he says no… that was probably the only time a “no” sounded so good. so then she asks why and he said because of his job and then she tried to figure out what he did and she guessed lawyer and some other thing and he laughed and was like absolutely not. he then told us he was in the navy and because I'm dramatic and was reading lone survivor at the time, i was like, “are you a seal??” like it even mattered but he was like no and then described to me what he did. which is so badass. might i add.

so then he told me that his brother is getting married tomorrow and all i can think of is his mom worrying that he wont get there. so i ask him what the deal is with the flights and he said because of the storms they may have to divert us mid air to Indianapolis. he said if that happens he just going to rent a car and drive straight to Chicago. and i told him i would split the cost and do it with him. LIKE WHAT. i just met this guy and said i would drive with him. i know i have a good gut but damn thats forward. but he smiled and seemed to like that idea so i figured i was good. we had some things in common at that point. he then told me he was based in destin which i was like omg you have to be kidding. heres this guy, who is very easy to look at and so far has a great personality and lives in Florida, 30 minutes from my beach house. this isn't happening.

so we get on the flight, and i have an open seat next to me, i was very very close asking him to sit next to me, but i also did just offer to road trip with him, so i figured i would tone it down. i find out later that my friend had asked him if he had gotten my number and he said no and she was like okay well you've lost your chance now and he was like umm well were going to the same place sooo i still have a chance. and he did. he found me after we landed by baggage claim and asked for my number. which i was glad to give away.

Part of me wanted to share a cab with him but it didn't make any sense to since we were going to a different location. Part of me also wished we had landed in Indianapolis and we road tripped back to chicago. he immediately texted me and till this day i can still remember what he said to me.

Two days passed and we texted and snapped back and forth and I wished we could've gotten coffee or something at least but I knew he was busy. But that doesn't mean I wasn't wishing his flight was cancelled or delayed. Expect it wasn't but I knew I would see I'm in a few weeks anyway since ill be in Florida. I was definitely into this guy.

Hey there so when i turn 18, im buying a 2003 nissan 350z with my own money. Right now im 17 and have been driving an old civic for almost the past 2 years and have never gotten in an accident or ticket (not that that lowers the insurance at all) and have the good student discount. so i followed the rule of thumb to buying a car thats okay to beat up when you first start driving. anyways, ive been looking for a lot of answers to my question, but all of the people asking it seem to be paying for theyre own insurance. now tullow. fak. good things about tullow: as an intern for one month i had platinum health insurance. i only found out like two days before my internship was about to end best believe i wouldve rinsed that thing out lmaoo. i did use it mome, some friends went to get new glasses, went to the dentists all that 😂. I was working there with two other friends from my uni, i met a few ashesi students also so we had a whole squaaa thing going on t’was fun. Their food. chale varietyyyyy always looked forward to lunch obvs. uhh THERE WERE HUNKS LIKE YUMMY ASS DUDES WALKING IN THE HALLWAYS FAK. i was always trying to sneak snaps and sent them to Maa T and Tso. but there were also some really reallyyyyy hot women herh. my goodness. omg there was this one guy i was kinda crushing on even he went to TIS and was friends with my friends also, i found out late on .. anywhooo as for the work, booo, i worked on the 6th floor, management, with the MD and the heads right. Apparently management never takes interns so here i was feeling all G and shit like eyyy they picked me. Listen that was a prison. There was one time, i think it was the first time i was meeting the MD, i woalked into my supervisors office and she whispered “where’s your sweater” ? i was confused cause aint nobody said she was cold .. this woman wanted me to ccover up my shoulders and arms basically, and i found that soooo some way like wtf. In my school i never had that issue, in uni or any of the work experiences i had never had that either, like what are my shoulders going to do ? Mind you i wasnt even wearing anything revealing that had like cleavage .. 

This is acc kinda funny because i didnt really have proper office attire, so i would wear some church dresses i had to work (dont judge me pls, it was for one month, it was an unexpected internship, hadnt planned for it, so buying office clothes was something i did not want to do, plus i was about to travel bla bla). So church dresses, uno thats defo not going to be revealing but hey 🤷🏾‍♀️.

Work wise, i was basically an event organizer for them, they had their upcoming oil drilling celebration, i and a few others planned their flights to takoradi, sending invites out to dignitaries etc .. and theres only so much u can do when you’re waiting for people’s responses and stuff. i also did some paperwork there, i was constantly getting coffee, i swear i wanted to take their coffee maker with me when i was leaving ughhh. i met some really dope people there. and my supervisor was acc like the boss in the devil wears prada, like no joke. she was SCARYYYYY a few times that lady made me cry, id cry in the bathroom obvs, and come back and go at it again. but when i was leaving i had weirdly gotten fond of her and i didnt get how that happened.  

oh i forgot to mention, so the intersnhip wasnt planned cause, well it kinda was but listen. So i had applied for an HR placement right, got a call went for my interview and i didnt get it. So i had given up on intersnhips for that summer, i was going about my bidness partying, and then they called me about a month after telling me about the management placement and i was acc soooo happy. they called on like a tuesday and i had work thursday i believe, so it was short notice. 

there was one feeling i had one time that was acc amazing. So we were planning the TEN first oil celebrations right? and that whole time we were working on forecasts of when we’d hit first oil in takoradi, so mind you there was a probability of not hitting or hitting it at a latter time .. but we kinda planned the celebrations in good faith, that the engineers had everything up to plan there’d be no delays etcc. so i was in the office some time when i just heard out MD shout and get out of his seat yelling, we had had hit first Oil yaaaay. the head of the technical teams and a few other heads came up to our floor, grown ass men were acc jumping giving themselves high fives and all like it was so dope. they went into their board meeting to finalize everything. and i really felt at that moment that i had really contributed to something uno, no matter how small my input may have been, all my phone calls and planning wouldnt be in vain. 😂
