I've discovered an incredibly effective rain summoning ritual.
very carefully and thoroughly soak all your garden beds via watering can
refill your empty rain barrel via hose
#that's it!#next morning you'll get a nice steady pitter patter that wets everything through#90% pours out the overflow of the barrel you carefully used a brick to wedge the hose on for ten minutes#to add insult to injury#this was after discovering that the several days of afternoon mist drizzles had not actually been doing more than lightly dampening the soil#and that the rain barrel you'd assumed would be full after not watering anything during that time was in fact two-thirds empty#on the plus side I got some weeding done while waiting
