can i say how i genuinely cannot be around orv fans based on ships only. i’m scrolling on tiktok, and i see this video about joongdok. so, then, i go to the account and i’m scrolling through it. there’s a bunch of joongdok videos, and i don’t really mind because i’m not allergic to whimsical joy and fun!

but then i look at the posts individually. one of them is about that kim dokja would choose yoo joonghyuk over han sooyoung. now, i’m pissed! because one, kim dokja isn’t the type to choose one or the other, that’s for sure. i see a comment where the person says kim dokja wouldn’t choose who to save, and the OP replies with that they weren’t talking about choosing to save and that the emotional connection is higher between joongdok than doksoo.

then in another reply to a different comment, they say that there are so many hints that kim dokja would choose to save yoo joonghyuk then han sooyoung first. this contradicts the reply to the first comment, where they claim that they aren’t talking about who kim dokja would save first.

if we are gonna talk about emotional connections, let’s start on joongdok first, as this is the first thing that the video clearly mentions. joongdok’s connection is far more than romantical, far more than “he’d save yoo joonghyuk over han sooyoung!” it’s a connection, a bond, something that maybe some others just can’t understand. so, yes, maybe han sooyoung cannot understand kim dokja and yoo joonghyuk’s personal relationship all that well. that is because kim dokja and yoo joonghyuk can never speak in words, they understand between unspoken and unexplained actions. this is proven by the fight yoo joonghyuk and kim dokja have after han sooyoung “died.” yoo sangah explains to the other librarians that they are having a “conversation” even though nobody in the world could call that a conversation. these two keep each other human in a way.

now, moving on to doksoo, doksoo’s relationship is filled with bantering, of course. it’s filled with underlying concern, mutual feelings. to others, their relationship may seem more easier to understand, since some view it as surface level. since people see their relationship as surface level, and can see joongdok may look deeper, they often have it in them that just because joongdok has a deeper relationship than doksoo, which is why they think the romantic route is the only way for joongdok to connect. but in reality, han sooyoung and kim dokja’s relationship runs on so much mutual trust with each other. it is true that kim dokja holds trust with other members, but there’s some duties that he knows that han sooyoung may be the only one to hold up. during the demon king arc when kimcom is forced to kill him, he tells han sooyoung she’s the only one who can fulfill the job of bringing them back to their senses to gain enough will to kill him. once again, in the kaizenix arc, han sooyoung trusts kim dokja enough to wait fifty years for him without losing her mind. at the final scenario, he entrusts han sooyoung with the job of holding all the coins for the company and to connect the dots what to do with them. even in small things, he trusts han sooyoung with his life and his possessions too.

the point is, you cannot compare two different and individual relationships with each other. they may be built on the same thing but they’re structured differently, with different layers and all. if we really wanted to go deeper, i could go into yoohan’s relationship with each other. their relationship is displayed more during the epilogue, where we can finally see scenes between them more. there’s so much more depth to relationships than just romance. i believe that’s why it was one of the best outcomes and moves for both kim dokja’s character and the individual connections between each and every character that kim dokja didn’t end up with somebody.
