“Sad People Dance Too” is EASILY one of my favourite chapters of The Glass Scientists — from the portrayal of Jaspers exploration with gender, the amazing and understanding from Rachel, to the heartbreaking transphobia Jekyll responds with — IT ALL JUST HITS ME SO HARD. And then the exploration of why Jekyll doesn’t believe most people would settle for a queer relationship ARRRRGGGGG IT HURTS and it’s GORGEOUS. It also explores how Hyde truly has always been part of Jekyll, and his habitual repression of his feelings dated back YEARS before the society was ever thought of. The exploration of Lanyon’s character too? I always wonder how reliable of a narrator Jekyll really is and coming back to this chapter after learning about Lanyon’s (equally biased) perspective of these events in later chapters just…. wow. AND THEN JASPER ABSOLUTELY SASSING OUT JEKYLL. HE NEEDED THAT REALITY CHECK BADDDDDD and jasper really was the perfect person for it. And to pay it all off, Jekyll actually listens to the genuine criticism that isn’t tainted by his own self loathing and woe is me attitude, and by acting upon Jaspers suggestions genuine well needed improvement and growth is made for the whole society and especially Jekyll and ITS GREAT. messaging like this needs to be in more media i adore it. not to mention the title too??? how it relates to how Jekylls depression??? UGH S.H COTUCNO HOW I ADORE U
