the other night as i was falling asleep i jolted back into consciousness when i realized just how devastating Mysterious Skin is. one man propelled by his putrid, vile fetish and lack of self-restraint ruins the lives of two boys. one spends the rest of his youth so far removed from what actually happened to him that he believes he was abducted by aliens. the other is convinced the man actually loved him. two child lives marred forever by one man’s self indulgence.

#godddddd #the book itself carries plenty of emotional weight #which is then further compounded (for me) by the circumstances under which i read it—which were really quite wonderful #but make me so nostalgic to look back to it now despite the fact that this was literally just this past October #feels farrrrr away #i picked the book up in a cramped bookshop in boston #i went into it blindly #and read it on the train up to maine as it rained nonstop outside m #i read most of that book on public transportation #on chilly days in Maine #and now this book makes me think of October and dark blue and crunchy leaves and rain and shoegaze #xx
