I want to speak out against the whole push towards DEI. I feel that ever since you made the push to make identity the forefront of a character it has hurt the stories you tell. Captain Sisay's race was never the focus of her character and she was a complete badass! And I fear if you did it over again Gerrard would be trans, black and disabled just because. It also cheapens the stories of world devastation when characters worry more about their gender than Bolas destroying everything.
The reason I started this blog is so we can have frank conversations about things, so please let’s talk about this.
Imagine if every time you turned on the TV or watched a movie, no one looked like you. For some of us, that’s never happened. We see ourselves constantly, so it’s hard to truly understand what not seeing yourself represented in media is like.
I do have a personal window to this experience. While I am white and male, there’s an area where I am the minority - my religion. Jews are just under two and a half percent of the US population. I have had many experiences where I’ve been in situations where everything is geared towards a group I do not belong to, and zero consideration is given that not everyone at that event is part of the majority.
You just feel invisible and like an outsider. It’s not a great feeling. And I just experience it a tiny portion of time, only things that are geared specifically towards something religious. Most minorities have this feeling all the time, whenever they’re outside their personal community.
Now imagine, after years of not seeing yourself ever, you finally see someone that looks like you, but nothing about the character rings remotely true. They don’t sound like you, they don’t act like you, the facts about their day-to-day life are just wrong. It’s clear whoever wrote the character didn’t truly understand the lived experience of the character, so the character feels fake.
You bring up Sisay. Michael Ryan and I didn’t technically create Sisay (she played a small role in the Mirage story), but we did do a lot to flesh out her character as the creators of the Weatherlight Saga. We turned her from a minor character into a major one.
And while I’m proud, in general, of our work on the Weatherlight Saga, I don’t think we did justice to Sisay as a character. Neither Michael nor I have any knowledge of what it’s like to be a black woman. Nor did we ever talk to someone who did.
And if you’re someone like us that has no knowledge of that experience, you probably didn’t notice. But that doesn’t mean it’s a good thing.
Imagine if we made a movie about your life, and we just made everything up. We invented people you never knew, we gave you a job you never had, and we had you say things you’d never say. The movie might even be a good movie, but your response would be, but that’s not my life - that’s not me.
Now imagine we put the movie out, and people that never met you assumed that was what you were like. When people met you for the first time, they assumed things, because, you know, they’d seen the movie.
That’s what misrepresenting people does. It not only makes them feel not seen, it falsely represents them, spreading lies, often stereotypes, making people believe things about them that aren’t true.
Our move towards diversity is just us trying to better reflect the world and the people in it. We’re trying to do to everyone else what a certain portion of people get every day without ever having to think about it.
But why are we “making it the forefront of their character”? We’re not. We’re making it a part of their character. But in a world where you’re not used to ever seeing it, it feels louder than it is. Things that are a natural part of the world that you’re used to feel like the background of the story because you understand the context to it.
If a man kisses his wife before going off to a battle, that’s not a big deal. It’s just a thing a husband might do to his wife when he leaves. It’s not the forefront of his character. It’s just part of his life. But you’ve seen it hundreds of times, so it feels normal.
When someone does something that isn’t your lived experience it pulls focus. It seems like a big deal, but only because it’s new to you. It’s just as mundane a thing to that character as the man kissing his wife is to him.
Even the turn “pushing” implies that it’s unnaturally here, that we’re forcing something that naturally shouldn’t be. But why? That thing exists naturally in the real world, and it doesn’t make the real world any less. Maybe you’re less aware of it, but is making you aware of how others live their life “pushing” something on you?
How you live your life is represented constantly, everywhere. Why isn’t over-representing your experience at the expense of everyone else’s “pushing” it? Why is media only being the experience of those in power the “proper way”?
Having more depth and variety doesn’t lessen stories. It makes them deeper, more rich, more nuanced. In short, it makes them better stories. In my former life, I was a professional writer. I took a lot of writing classes. One of the truism of writing is “speaking truth leads to better stories”.
There’s another famous quote: “When you’re accustomed to privilege, equality feels like oppression.” You’re used to being over-represented, so being a little less over-represented feels like something has been taken from you. But really it hasn’t. Having a better sense of the rest of the world comes with a lot of benefits.
I’ll use food as an example. Let’s say all you were ever exposed to was the food of your heritage. Yeah, that food is really good, but sometimes isn’t it nice to eat foods of other nationalities? Isn’t your life better that you have a choice? Isn’t your exposure and access to the food of other nationalities a positive in your life?
Exposure to variety is a positive. It allows you to learn about things you didn’t know, experience things things you’ve never experienced, and get a better sense of understanding of your friends and neighbors.
Our actions are not to harm anyone, and if you think that’s what we’re doing, please take a minute to actually absorb what I’m saying. You’ve spent your whole life metaphorically eating one type of food, and we’re just trying to show you how much you’ve missed out on.
And while this might not impact you directly, we’re making a whole bunch of people felt seen. We’re bringing joy. Think of it this way. We make a lot of cards. Not every card is for you. But if it makes someone else happy, if they get to include it in a deck, and it makes Magic better for them, how is it harming you that we include it? You have so many cards that you can play.
To this poster or people that share their viewpoint, the narrative that a gain for someone else is an attack on you is just not true. As I just pointed out above, you play a game all about personal choice, about players getting to choose how they play and enjoy the game. Why should life be any different than Magic?
Thanks for reading.

As fun as this whole thing is to (justifiedly) dunk on, the exact meaning behind what they're talking about is kinda chilling and should be known.
The "sin of empathy" isn't empathy itself. It's not compassion either. When fundamentalists rail against the "sin of empathy" what they're talking about is a kind of punitive behavior they want to encourage.
That is to say, to a pastor like this, the sin isn't "empathy" in itself, but "to feel empathy for someone whose suffering is justified."
If you see a homeless man and feel for him, this pastor says did you consider whether he deserved it? Whether it was his own actions that put him there?
If you see a child being beaten, this pastor says did you consider that maybe she mouthed off, and is being justly punished for it? Stop thinking it might be the parent's fault.
If you see a man killed by the police, this pastor says he was a probably a criminal anyway, so stop feeling bad for him. Stop demanding justice.
They believe that feeling empathy for someone who is in pain, that sitting down to understand their situation from their perspective, carries a risk of inheriting their sins. That if you start to feel empathy for someone wronged by power, harmed by the status quo, and especially for someone harmed by the church, you are probably guilty of the same sins that "got them" harmed.
Because to a fundamentalist christian, the world is a battlefield between believers and everyone else, and any harm caused to nonbelievers is justified harm, as it either results in those nonbelievers staying in their "proper place" in the status quo, or dying. And empathy for those harmed gets in the way of that. Constitutes a slippery slope towards questioning if that status quo is ideal. If that violence was inevitable. If the harm was justified. Because nonchristians can be divided into "potential christians (rare)" and "demons trying to sway you from your faith (common)." There is no middleground, and there is no other option. Everyone outside your church is an enemy combatant, and that makes all harms against them justified.
They want you to feel empathy, but only for the right people. They want you to question injustice, but only when it's the right people being harmed.
The "sin of empathy" isn't about empathy.
It's about believing that those outside your church are people at all.

UNTIL YOU LOVE ME
Lando Norris X Piastri!fem!reader
Summary: When Y/n is Oscar's older sister, she works at McLaren in the media and still has a thing with Lando. But she starts avoiding him when she sees videos of him with another woman on Instagram.
Words: 3.7K+
Warnings: Swear words, LOTS of suggestive words, NO BETRAYAL (I didn't want to put more in summary so as not to spoil the plot of the story, relax, no betrayal. Because I hate that), Y/n is Oscar's older sister, mentions of other pilots and Lily being a very sweet, understanding sister-in-law and best friend to Y/n.
Author: English is not my first language, so apologies for any spelling, grammar and slang mistakes that may be in the story. And as always, this story came from a song I was listening to while washing the dishes hahaha (??) ❤️🇧🇷
MASTERLIST
Tumblr media
"Since when does your sister speak Spanish?" Lando asks, leaning against the garage counter with his arms crossed. His gaze was fixed on Y/n near the track, talking to Franco.
Oscar, who was next to his teammate, looks up from his cell phone and sees his older sister talking to Franco, laughing and speaking in Spanish to the Argentine.
"Oh, since she started college. She had to take an extracurricular subject and chose Spanish." Oscar shrugs, turning his attention back to his cell phone.
Lando was still beside him, still leaning on the counter, his eyes fixed on Franco. He had a frown on his forehead, heavy breathing and a look as if he would jump for the pilot's neck.
Piastri then sighs and puts his cell phone in his pocket, nudging his friend's shoulder, making Lando look at him.
"Stop looking at him like that. Soon you'll be able to make him levitate in the air with just a look."
Lando rolls his eyes and uncrosses his arms, resting one hand on the counter behind him.
"She's still not talking to you?" Oscar asks, looking at his older sister and then at Lando.
He shakes his head. "No..."
"What about you? Did you at least try to explain yourself to her?" Oscar raises his eyebrows, waiting for Lando to say something.
"Obviously!" Lando says a little loudly. "I've been trying to talk to her in person and sending her messages for about three races now. But she ignores everything, making the excuse that she needs to sort out some things with the team."
Oscar chuckles softly, knowing that when his older sister didn't want to talk, she knew very well how to find a good excuse to get out of the situation.
"Trust me, you need to explain your side of the story, because... I know exactly what hell is going to happen next." He holds back a laugh and Lando's eyes widen a bit, turning his gaze to Y/n. "You need to tell her that the woman in your car in Monaco was-"
"Oscar!"
Before Oscar could finish speaking, Lily appeared in the garage with a sweet smile.
The Australian driver starts to take a few steps out of the garage and looks at Lando. "You need to talk to her!"
Lando smiles and nods.
Piastri grabs the rest of his things and turns towards where his sister was. "Y/n!! LET'S GO!" He shouts smiling and Y/n immediately turns towards her brother.
"OK! Wait for me in the car, I'll be there in a few minutes!"
Oscar just nods and holds his girlfriend's hand, who is waiting for him in the garage. The Australian looks at Lando and gestures with his hand, encouraging him to explain himself to his older sister.
Lando laughs and they leave the garage.
Since joining McLaren's media team, Y/n has always been close to Lando. They had an easy friendship, full of teasing and laughter, with a natural complicity that made even the mechanics joke that the two worked better together than many driver pairings.
But everything changed six months ago, after a GP that Lando won. The celebration in the paddock was intense, but what really stood out that night was the unexpected kiss that happened between them.
It was something spontaneous, impulsive and perfect.
After that kiss, something changed. They started meeting up outside of racing, seeing each other more often, wanting each other's company in their downtime.
At first, neither of them knew exactly what they were doing, but one thing quickly became clear: this wasn't just a phase or a hobby. Lando and Y/n never explicitly said they were dating, but they promised they wouldn't date anyone else until they figured out what that feeling meant to them.
The truth, however, was that they both already knew the answer. They were in love. They were loving.
Over time, the secret meetings became routine. Lando would take Y/n to Quadrant events, the two would spend nights relaxing in each other's apartments, watching movies or simply enjoying each other's company. Or maybe, it was just the sex.
Everything was away from the eyes of the media, away from any rumors or gossip. Only Oscar and Lily knew what was really going on between them.
But it all fell apart a few weeks ago.
She was in her apartment in Monaco, enjoying a quiet evening, when she decided to browse the internet without any commitments. That's when a video appeared on the screen, posted by some fan.
In the video, Lando was leaving a restaurant accompanied by an unknown woman. They seemed to be talking normally, until she got into his car and he drove away.
The shock was immediate.
A few hours earlier, Lando had even texted Y/n saying he would spend the night with her. And now, here he was, leaving a restaurant with another woman and giving her a ride.
Y/n's mind began to spin, remembering his words, the promise they made not to be with anyone else. Had he lied to her? Betrayed her trust?
Anger and disappointment came together.
At that moment, she made a decision. She canceled all future dates, started avoiding him at GPs, and whenever she had to interact with him for work, she kept everything strictly professional. She ignored all his messages, refused all attempts to talk, and even blocked his number.
But what Y/n didn't know was that it was all just a misunderstanding.
Lando hadn't dated anyone but her. The promise they made was still real to him. He hadn't dated anyone since the day she was announced to work at McLaren. God, he knew from that day that the Australian was the woman of his life.
And the woman in the video wasn't what she seemed, and he desperately needed to tell Y/n the truth before it was too late.
After finishing the conversation with Franco, Y/n walked to the garage again to grab her bag and go to where her brother was waiting. Lando took advantage of the moment and tried to get closer to her, wanting to explain himself, because he knew exactly why she was like that.
"Y/n, can we talk?" He appears beside her as soon as she enters the garage.
Y/n rolls her eyes, noticing his arrival there, and just continues walking down the hallway, ignoring the deep look he had on her.
"Is this about some video for McLaren's media?" She asks, spotting her bag and slinging it over her shoulder.
"hm, no..."
"Then we have nothing to talk about. Good night!" Y/n started walking again.
Lando sighs deeply, but smiles, biting his lower lip slightly, knowing that under different circumstances, back when they were together, she would just take her anger out on him in bed. The two of them. Messy sheets. And heavy breathing.
He quickly shakes those thoughts from his mind and runs after her, before she can fully exit the garage.
"So... Franco, huh?" Lando approaches her, whispering close to her neck. Y/n tries to suppress the shiver she felt, but it was unsuccessful, Lando smiled knowing that he had so much power over her.
"Maybe, who knows?" Finally her gaze falls on Lando, raising her eyebrows a little and putting on a corner of her mouth.
He smiles. Y/n Piastri is definitely very different from her brother. While the younger one was more reserved, made few jokes and always had a neutral expression on his face. The older one was a totally provocative person, made a thousand jokes a day and was extroverted.
And Lando knew how incredibly provocative she was in bed. Oh, how he knew.
"I didn't think he was paying you much attention!"
Y/n looks at him in disbelief. "I didn't know you cared so much." She continues walking. "And I also don't know why you're talking to me. You should be thinking about the actions you've been doing while I was in my apartment waiting for you."
Lando rolls his eyes a little amused at the situation he was in. Yet another sign that Norris could be quite the provocateur.
He leans closer to her ear, making her swallow hard and start walking slower.
"You know, I don't think he's your type..." He begins. "I don't think he's going to hold you in bed..." Lando smiles, watching Y/n lose the stability he had created around her lately. "Because... with him you try, but with me you come and sit!"
Y/n held a breath in her throat and looked at him, trying to keep a serious expression and a frown on her forehead.
"Are you still talking?" She sends him a menacing look, which for a moment, makes Lando regret his jokes and teasing.
Y/n continues walking through the paddock, quickly now, a little shaken by those words, but leaving Lando behind, staring at her silhouette that was getting further and further away.
Norris would do anything that weekend to have an explanatory conversation with Y/n, even if he had to use his flattering and provocative side.
•••••••••••••••••••••
The following day, the early sun was already painting the paddock lines orange during the Spanish Grand Prix. While the team moved with their usual pre-race haste and energy, Y/n remained secluded in her small McLaren media office, a simple space provided by the organization for the teams.
Ever since Lando's attempted conversation the previous afternoon, she had made a point of avoiding him, maintaining an emotional distance that reflected the confusion she felt and the provocations that had definitely gotten to her.
Sitting in a swivel chair, Y/n turned slowly, as if trying to find answers in the rotations of her own body. His eyes, lost in thought, followed the reflection of the lights that were beginning to twinkle through the window glass, while his hands, restless, gently touched the back of the chair.
Beside her, Lily was sitting in a smaller chair, positioned so that she could follow both the cell phone screen and the thoughts that, lightly, escaped Y/n's lips.
“I think I have the measles.” She says, blowing her nose into a tissue and Lily stifles a laugh, raising her eyebrows slightly. “I had a fever before I got on the flight and now I’m sneezing.”
"Couldn't this just be a cold?"
"I don't know..." Y/n sighs, resting her head on the back of the chair and turning around again. "I googled it and it told me it was measles or cancer... so I preferred measles."
Lily lets out a loud laugh. "Good thing you didn't choose a career in healthcare." Y/n turns to her and laughs too. "But the fever? I think it's love fever." She waggles her eyebrows. "Have you talked to Lando yet?"
Y/n rolls her eyes when she hears the pilot's name.
"Not me. I have nothing to talk to him about!"
"But he must have, right?" Lily said calmly, leaning forward a little to look at her sister-in-law. Lily shook her head with an amused smile, crossing her legs and resting her elbow on the arm of the chair. "You can pretend you don't care, but I know you still like him."
Y/n stopped spinning in her chair, sighing deeply.
"I like him, okay?" She admitted, looking down at her hands. "I'm still in love with him, and that's what makes me the most angry. Because if it were any other guy, I'd just move on. But it's Lando...and he's the best...I can't explain how in love I am...and I also can't believe he did this to me."
Lily watched her for a moment, biting her lip as if pondering her next words. She knew the truth. Lando had already told her and Oscar everything when Piastri confronted him, ready to defend his older sister.
But it wasn't Lily's place to reveal the truth. Y/n needed to hear it directly from Lando.
"Have you ever considered that it might have been a misunderstanding?" Lily suggested carefully.
Y/n snorted. "Yes. And at the same time, no. If he wanted to explain it to me, he had plenty of time to do so."
"That is if you would stop running away from him, right?" Lily raised an eyebrow. "He's already getting frustrated with how much you avoid him."
Y/n crossed her arms, not knowing how to respond. Maybe Lily had a point, but she still couldn't just forget what she saw.
Lily, noticing what her sister-in-law was thinking, decided to lighten up a bit. "And you know what? He's getting really jealous every time you talk to Franco. It's hilarious. He glares at the poor guy every time he sees you two talking."
Y/n rolled her eyes, holding back a smile. "Oh, great. Now he wants to play jealous?"
"Believe me, if his looks were lethal, Franco would already be in another dimension." She laughed.
Before Y/n could respond, they heard a knock on the door. Turning their heads in sync towards the noise.
"Come in!" Y/n said, still smiling slightly.
When the door opened, Lando appeared, leaning against the frame with a serious look, but with a small smile on his face.
"Lily, Oscar is looking for you." He informed, glancing quickly at Y/n before turning his eyes back to Lily.
Lily smiled, feeling that this was the perfect moment to leave the two alone. "Great!" She said, standing up. Before leaving, she lightly touched Y/n's shoulder. "Take the opportunity to talk to him."
Y/n shot her sister-in-law a death glare, but Lily just winked at her before leaving, smiling sympathetically as she walked past Lando.
Silence filled the room. Y/n looked away from the pilot and stood up, going to a table to get her camera.
"Can we talk?" He was still there, leaning against the doorframe.
"I have to work," she said, adjusting her gear. "Now is not a good time for conversation. You should be in the garage, too."
Lando sighed, and before she could move toward the door, he closed it, blocking the exit.
"Do you need to work or are you avoiding talking to me?" He asked, crossing his arms.
"Or... do you just want to go talk to Franco? You guys seem pretty close, don't you?"
Y/n stopped in her tracks, narrowing her eyes at him. "Seriously? You want to go that way?"
Lando smirked. "I'm just asking."
Y/n approached the door, trying to open it, but he used his body to stop her.
"What's wrong, Y/n? Are you afraid to answer?"
She raised an eyebrow and crossed her arms. “Oh, please, Norris. If I wanted to provoke you, I could do a much better job of it than just talking to Franco.”
Lando chuckled, leaning closer to her ear. "And what would you do, then?"
Y/n just rolled her eyes and tried to ignore the heat his gaze caused. She was still irritated, but at the same time, she knew she was about to give in.
She felt the heat of Lando's body so close to hers that she had to close her eyes for a moment, trying to control her rapid breathing. But it was useless. He was there, so close, and she felt electricity run through every part of her body.
Making her remember all the times they were the only ones in a room with kisses, sighs and touches all over their bodies.
Lando smiled as he noticed her gesture, his expression becoming even more teasing.
"Why don't you give me a chance to explain myself, huh? Afraid of finding out I was wrong?"
Y/n opened her eyes, her stubbornness returning with a vengeance. "I've seen enough, Lando. I don't need to hear lies."
The answer only made Lando move even closer. They were face to face now, their faces inches apart. His intense gaze bored into her eyes, and Y/n felt her legs give out a little as her breath hitched against his lips.
"So that's it? You'd rather believe a random video than me?"
He was so close that she could feel his words on her skin, like a warm breath. Without thinking, as if something greater than her stubbornness took over her, Y/n moved even closer. And Lando smiled before finally kissing her.
It was a hot, urgent kiss, full of longing and emotion. His hands held her waist firmly, pulling her close, while her fingers intertwined in his hair. Lando kissed her as if he was trying to prove, with every movement, that she belonged to him. Y/n gave in for a moment, feeling her heart hammering in her chest.
But before they could go any further, she suddenly pulled away and slapped his chest, her expression irritated.
"You're impossible, Lando! That was a low blow!"
Lando chuckled, licking his lips. "I'd say it was well deserved."
Y/n huffed, pushing him aside lightly. "You should be focusing on the race, not me."
"I haven't been able to concentrate since you started avoiding me." He smiled sideways and added, his voice lower and full of intent, "I'm your biggest fan, I'll follow you until you love me."
Y/n rolled her eyes and opened the door, rushing out and slamming it shut behind her. That was it. If she didn't talk to Lando right away, he would continue to follow her like a relentless paparazzi.
As she walked through the paddock, Lando's taunts still echoed in her mind. Little by little, she began to doubt whether she had really seen the situation wrong.
Oscar had insisted that she talk to Lando, and if it really was a betrayal, his brother would never speak like that.
Y/n suddenly stopped in the middle of the paddock, lost in her thoughts, when someone bumped into her.
"Oops! Sorry, Y/n! Are you okay?"
She blinked a few times and smiled.
"Hi, Yes, I just... I need to speak to someone on the team."
Franco frowned suspiciously. "You look a little lost."
She just smiled.
But before she could say anything else, the Argentine pilot placed a gentle hand on her shoulder and smiled.
"Well, whatever. It's going to be okay," he comforted gently. "See you around!" He walked through the paddock, holding a thermos in his hands and his mate.
It was at that moment that she decided. She needed to talk to Lando.
Y/n ran back to McLaren HQ, rushing inside to get to the office. But before she could reach the door, she turned a corner and bumped into Lando head on.
"What's going on?" He held her, worried.
"You!" Y/n smiled determinedly.
Lando smiled back and she grabbed his hand, pulling him back into the room.
"I was too hasty and didn't let you speak. But now you can say everything. Even if it hurts." She said quickly, as she closed the door to the small office.
Lando held her face with both hands, caressing her cheeks as he looked deep into her teary eyes.
"Okay, you were angry. But, Y/n, the woman in the video was my sister, Flo. She came to visit me in Monaco and I took her around the city. I would never cheat on you. Ever. And you know..."
Y/n felt her heart race. She blinked in confusion, letting the tears fall.
"Your...your sister?"
Lando laughs and takes his cell phone out of his pocket, opening the photo gallery and showing a photo of him and his brothers. The girl next to him was identical to the one who appeared in the video.
Y/n laughs and puts her hands on her face, a little embarrassed now.
"It's your sister-in-law." Lando chuckles. "You know, I'm in love with you Y/n, I haven't dated anyone before you showed up at McLaren. I knew something big was coming, and it was you. You're the woman I want in my life. I love you, my Australian!" Lando says softly, calmly and romantically. Another version of him that made Y/n's heart melt.
Y/n felt her heart race. She blinked in confusion, letting the tears fall. "Do... do you love me?"
Lando laughed softly.
"And why wouldn't I? You're wonderful, stubborn, funny, kind, beautiful... warm. I love your Australian accent, your laugh when you find something really funny. I love how you bite the cap of your pen when you're concentrating. I love when you play the big sister and fight with Oscar in the garage in front of everyone, just out of protectiveness." She laughs and Lando tucks a strand of her hair behind her ear. "And I love... loving you."
Y/n's tears fell at once and, without thinking, she threw herself into his arms.
"I'm sorry. I was an idiot for not listening to you sooner. It's just... this relationship with a public figure still scares me."
Lando pulled her close, kissing the top of her head.
"I will never hurt you. Nor do anything that would make you feel betrayed. Besides, if I did that, Oscar would hunt me to the ends of the earth."
Y/n laughed, pulling away a little and cupping his face.
"I love you, Lan!" She confessed. And how she loved that British man.
Lando's smile grew and he took her hands in his. "So, do you want to make it official? Do you want to date me?"
Y/n's eyes widened in surprise. "You're asking me out now?"
"Yes. And if you say no, I'll have to kiss you again until you change your mind."
"Yes, I do, love." She smiles.
Lando pulled her into another kiss, this time calmer, but full of affection and love. His hands framed her face, as if she were a rare and precious jewel. The Australian's hands ran to his light brown curls, twirling some of them around her fingers.
"The only problem is that I don't have the ring here. But as soon as we get to Monaco, I'll spend hours with you in bed and give you the ring that's already been bought." Lando says, as they walk away.
"Okay, I guess I can go a few days without the ring." She smiles, and then leans closer to his ear. "But now, the part about staying in bed... I can't promise to stay without it..."
"If you keep saying things like that, I won't even be able to run tomorrow."
She laughed and kissed him again, knowing that no matter what, they were finally where they were supposed to be.

i feel like all of my pondering and analyzing and criticizing veilguard over the past few months has actually truly given me a better understanding of what dragon age meant to me, what about it specifically was so meaningful, and why, as a result, veilguard felt so wrong. it took a while for me to figure it out. about three full months of relentless essay writing, actually. but i think if you had asked me a few years ago what the core of my love for dragon age was, whatever answer i gave would not have truly gotten to the root of it, because i think i had to experience the disappointment of veilguard to fully understand why i love dragon age. and ive realized that core is that i loved how the previous dragon age entries demand so much of the player, and deliberately prompt introspection and critical, often political, thought.
dragon age games have historically forced the player to be self-reflective and introspective about their worldview and beliefs. solas is obviously a fantastic example, as he was deliberately written to be a reflection of the player in order to prompt them to reflect on how they treat people, how our expectations of people influence their behavior, and how people are pushed to extremes and turned into monsters or saved by love and kindness. how do people become monsters? what drives them to blow up buildings or start rebellions or destroy the world as you know it? are they right or wrong? does it even matter? how did you contribute to this? are you innocent? it puts these insane, politically and morally charged situations in your face and forces you to confront them. slavery, a refugee crisis, poverty, class disparities, racism, foreign occupation, the list goes on, and you are not given the option to look away or be a bystander. you have to ACT. you have to choose, you have to make judgements, you have to take responsibility and explore your role in this world as someone with the capacity to act upon it, to make your will a reality, to fail, to make mistakes. i honestly can't think of any other video game that does this to the same extent? nor any media at all because the act of being IN the world as one of it's people through the act of role-playing is essential to how it provokes this experience in the player. its ballsy. they deliberately try to make you uncomfortable. these games are full of liars, deceivers, betrayers. the games themselves lie to you. its character try to deceive you. did you catch it? or were you fooled? what else might you be fooled by? who else might be lying to you? in the game? in real life? and then you get to play it again knowing the end, and what the game prompts changes with your new knowledge. now it asks, do you forgive them? what makes someone worthy of forgiveness? where do you draw the line? what do you think?
i dont think i realized until recently how impactful this was for me considering how i first got into dragon age at 16 years old. i dont think i had experienced anything up to that point that would put a situation like judging a war criminal who ordered the deaths of children or another war criminal who just left me to die and orchestrated a near-coup or a traumatized terrorist who just blew up a church right in my face, and said MAKE A DECISION. and i didnt know it at the time, but looking back i can see how valuable it was for me at that age to have what was effectively an avenue of exploration and self-expression of all of these moral and political issues that i was grappling with as a young adult. i played inquisition for the first time just months before i voted in my first presidential primary. i already had a political consciousness at this point, but it was nonetheless new and vulnerable and still blossoming into something more concrete. inquisition, then, almost provided a sort of political, moral and personal sandbox for me from ages 16-20 to better help me understand myself in relation to the world. the RPG-ness allowed me to put myself into these situations - like the mage-templar war and its metaphor for mass incarceration and police brutality - while i was also simultaneously grappling with and trying to understand these issues in real life. having dragon age to help me further unpack my own beliefs and conception of these issues was undeniably impactful. it provided a space, through a narrative i enjoyed and cared about, to make choices and judgement calls and better understand who i was, and what felt right to me. it asked, "what do you think?"
veilguard lacks this. completely. and lets be clear that the previous games did not always do a perfect job. many of these depictions are messy and harmful and problematic, but they at least, by extension of their own existence in a narrative that forces you to THINK and JUDGE and DECIDE, give me the space and opportunity to judge them as messy, as problematic, as harmful. i can confidently say that i think da2 is too sympathetic to the templars as an organization because the fact that da2 presents me with so many narrative conflicts regarding the templar organization allows me to not just make in-game decisions and play as a staunch advocate for mage freedom and circle abolition, but to form opinions on the game itself by extension. i can confidently say that i believe the qunari's portrayal is islamophobic because the game has prompted me so many times; what do i think about the qunari? what do i think about the oppression of the elves? what do i think about dorian being a seemingly good person but defending the practice of slavery? who should rule orzammar; the progressive asshole or the conservative traditionalist? do i forgive loghain? do i forgive anders? do i forgive solas? this in-world critical thinking about issues in thedas leads to meta critical thinking. further questions naturally follow -> what message did the writers intend to send through anders? how can i notice the echoes of how this story came into fruition in the shadow of 9/11? what do solas's endings tell me about the writers view of retributive punishment? how is bioware's portrayal of the dalish, as inspired by indigenous north americans, reflective of deep-seated anti-indigenous canadian sentiment? why did the writers stop prompting these hard questions at all in veilguard? did they only like it when it was about characters, not when it led to critical thinking about them and the company as a whole? through these processes of in-world interrogation, i am inevitably invited to analyze the effectiveness of their narrative portrayals and the writing itself. perhaps this is why dragon age is so famous for its discourse lol.
ive said before that im not sure that veilguard could ever have been as impactful for me as the previous games, partly because when you are 16 everything is more impactful because your brain is an eager sponge, unless it did something that really resonated with me as an adult. but what it should have been, at the very least, is something that could have been as impactful and formative on a current 16 year old that sees a gif on tumblr and decides to check out the game, as inquisition was to me 10 years ago. and im sure there are teenagers and younger adults out there playing this game and loving it and loving the characters and the world and thinking its great, good fun. thats great. however it fundamentally cannot have the same profound, developmentally catalytic experience it had on me because it simply does not challenge the player. it does not prompt them to question their own beliefs and the power structures within their lives. it does not prompt them to reflect on the political narratives they may have been fed all their lives. it does not confront them with the sorts of topics that get books on banned lists in florida and force them to bear witness, to think deeper, to feel guilt or horror at the outcome of your own poorly-made decision, to make moral judgements, to make mistakes, and to live with the consequences.
i think i now understand why veilguard was so disappointing to me and ultimately would be a failure in my eyes no matter if i enjoyed the combat or the exploration or whatever other shiny coat of paint sits atop it. veilguard does not ask much of you. it does not prompt any sort of introspection or interrogation of your presently held beliefs. it does not demand anything from the player except to dodge at the right moment. this is a fundamental, core departure from what made me fall in love with dragon age in the first place. if you love dragon age because you want "fantasy escapism" and fun characters to smooch, then i am happy for you. but i would remind you that can find fantasy escapism all over the steam library - farming sims, cozy games, a witch looking for her cat in the alps, etc. what you cannot find are games that are willing and brave enough to challenge and provoke the player into a better, more thorough understanding of themselves in relation to our world and it's many, complex and daunting political and moral issues. to have lost such a thing, when media like this has become so few and far between, and during a time when we need it more than ever, is a devastating loss.

Getting personal for a moment. But I feel it’s important to share, anyways.
When I was married, everyone in my life gaslit me to believe I was terrible with managing my money. Any personal expensive was noted as frivolous and wasteful. Bought some fabric for my hobby of dress-making with money I earned from a bonus?
That could have been used for the water bill next month!
Had a $1000 bonus? No. That’s for the house mortgage that he didn’t let my name exist on even though I paid for majority of the renovations because he was content letting the kitchen sit in disarray with thick dust in the air. Causing me to have severe allergy attacks every day.
Called off sick?
How could you? We have bills to pay!!!!
Go through extreme harassment at work?
No. You’re making it up. It’s an excuse to take a day off and relax.
Ignore the fact that he called off regularly because he had headaches while I was shamed into going to work despite having the flu.
Set up a joint account where only I contributed to put money in for bills to pay. Because he would pay from his account. Then he’d constantly drain the joint account for ‘bills’ and then spend his money on who even knows. We had 2 maxed out credit cards in his name.
But this was so normal to me. Because I grew up like this. I grew up with my ‘support system’ telling me this is normal. Telling me that I am the problem.
And I believed it.
I believed that everything that was wrong was me.
I didn’t know he was $7,000 in debt until our divorce where he was demanding I pay it off.
I never did find out what he used that money on. I suspect it was on his gaming addiction and my alleged ‘best friend’ he was sleeping with.
When I finally got out of that relationship, I was in financial ruin. I had nothing in my name. At 30.
I lost everything. (Except for the car that I begged for him to let me take and 3 of my 4 cats).
I lost the house I lived in for years. It was all in his name. There was nothing I could do about it. Because we were ‘only married for 3 years’ despite being together for 10.
I had no furniture to take with me. Save for a couch. That I couldn’t actually take because I had no place to go. I was couch surfing or sleeping in my car at this time.
I lost my dream job because my ‘friend’ worked there as well. And while they were beyond accommodating to my situation, I could no longer mentally handle being there nor could I handle the hour drive once I did find a place to live.
$1000 down on a new apartment.
Car broke down a month later. $1000 down on a new car.
Said car was stolen twice. Can’t even begin to tell you how much money that leeched out of my savings.
$23,000 (with health insurance) for surgery due to appendicitis.
All in a year after divorce.
It was defeating. It was so fucking hard.
In a span of a year I went through multiple life crises events. I can feel how it physically changed my ability to process information. In a way, I’ve become ‘dumber’ because of it. I can’t hold onto information. I have a hard time reading and staying focused.
Only reason I was able to even financially get through all of that was because I had some money saved from a lawsuit at the job that was harassing me that I wound up winning after the divorce. That and I finally caved in and got a credit card (my credit score was good) and a couple of personal loans.
I’m still paying it all off. It has been so fucking hard.
And I’ve been going through waves of hating myself for being so naive to feeling terrible for what I’ve been through because I didn’t see anything wrong with what I experienced as it was happening. And I’m finally coming to my own form of peace with this. But it was hard.
I had been with him for 10 years.
I don’t love easily. But I did love him. Even if I showed it in odd ways. I wouldn’t have married him, otherwise.
And then when everyone around me said I was the problem, I believed them.
Even now, I have an incredibly hard time understanding when I am truly in the wrong with a situation or if my reaction to things are justified.
I didn’t realize I was being put through mental and financial abuse by so many people around me.
I wish I could hug me from a few years ago and let them know they are so strong for going through all of this. But that they shouldn’t have had to be so strong for so long.
I wish I could hug every woman on the planet that has been through anything where they had to ‘be strong’ to survive while thinking it’s normal.
Baby, it’s not normal. You deserve so much more in this world.
You deserve your own freedom and a support system that values you and lets you know when you’re going through actual bullshit instead of painting you as the villain.
To all the women out there who go through these things; I love you. I see you.
maybe i’m a joyless bitch but i actually do NOT think it’s funny to see women being like “the house is just in my husbands name” or “my husband makes all the money” or “i don’t even know who our mortgage is with” or “the only bank account/credit card is his and i get an allowance” like i do NOT find that cute or romantic and i am begging these women to Stand Up. you should at least be named on the deed to your house and the title to your car and the bank accounts even if you don’t pay for them/earn all the money. you can’t stop existing in the eyes of the law and the credit unions simply because you have a husband. if you’re raising his children and washing his socks half of everything he’s got is yours and it needs to be yours LEGALLY BY NAME. "he takes such good care of me :)" girl you are a PRISONER!! that’s all

i loved ur sleepover hcs ofthe hanmas !! but what do you think about a tenjiku sleepover?
Ok this is how I feel like a tenjiku one would go down!
Tumblr media
Izana keeps on insisting this isn't a sleepover, it's just them hanging out but they all know the truth
It takes place at the Haitani brother's place (they wanted to show off their apartment)
Kakucho is pretty excited about it but tries to hide this (everyone can tell though).
They watch a bunch of horror movies together (most of them laugh through them)
Kisaki doesn't understand why this happening or why he has to be here, Hanma refuses to let him leave though.
Rindou is kinda possessive over his dj gear, he wants to demo for the others but doesn't want the others using it (especially with that crazy grin Hanma has while he asks)
There's a lot of drinking involved too, aside from Koko and Kisaki (neither of them thinks it's a good idea in this situation) and Kakucho (Izana takes the glass Ran pours for him away).
They play a lot of music and it's like a party for part of the night
Shion get's locked outside at one point (he swears the music got turned up when that happened too but everyone denies it).
There's definitely a drinking contest at one point, Mucho wins (Rindou had already drunk a lot before this point
Sanzu sits on the sofa and pretty much people watches for most of the evening.
Mochi somehow get's into an arm wrestling competition with Rindou at one point and they nearly break a table.
Hanma uses Ran's room to smoke in
Izana has such a genuine smile on his face all evening that everytime Kakucho sees it he grins.
No one actually decides to go to sleep, it's more like people keep passing out on the sofa's and floor. The only exception to this is Ran, no one saw him change into his pajamas but somehow he's perfectly ready for bed.
Ran sleeps on his bed, Izana and Kakucho claimed Rindou's bed (Izana let Kakucho sleep there too), Mochi is asleep on the sofa with Shion leaning on him using him as a pillow, Sanzu sleeps on the single sofa (Mucho put a blanket over him) and Mucho sleeps on the floor beside him.  Koko's sleeping at an awkward angle on the bar stools and Kisaki is on the floor (he grumbled a lot about this). Meanwhile Hanma and Rindou are the last ones awake.
Rindou doesn't remember what they discussed (he was too drunk at that point) but he does remember agreeing to something. Eventually when he get's tired, he looks around at his options and climbs into bed with Ran (luckily he doesn't wake him up). Though he'll be very embarrassed in the morning when Ran teases him about being like a little kid.
They all wake up to the smell of burning and there being a mini fire in the kitchen (Hanma decided to try and make breakfast). A few of them suddenly have sharpie moustaches on their faces too.

Sorry for the Cain rant. I didn’t realize he was my favorite until you put him in this position 😭🙏🏾 Noooooooooo. I feel so bad for Cain. He dosent know. Ragathas blaming Cain for their suffering but the fact is that he’s an ai. To him, players showed up and haven’t been able to leave, so he TRIED. Made accommodations like the rooms, and the adventures. He’s oblivious but that’s bc he isn’t human, imagine being stuck with something you can’t fully understand. Zooble said it herself, Cain can do much worst but dosent bc He likes them. He wants them to love his adventures and have fun. He tries for them despite everything. It’s far from perfect and he’s flawed. But he tries. So I feel so bad for him bc waking up to everyone corrupted . After he tried so hard.
caine's my second favorite so while he's not going to go through pomni levels of trauma here he Is going to be beaten to the ground and shot at
what i find fascinating about caine is that he's put in a situation where he's Doomed to fail . he can try as much as he wants but he will always fall short . and it's just out of his control .
he's meant to be entertaining players with fun games , not play therapist to a bunch of traumatized adults with complex problems . he's not Meant to deeply analyze human emotions and problems — it's just not in his neural network . he has not been trained to do that . he said it himself ; making adventures is the only thing he's good at .
and i'll say this , he's not bad at making adventures ! they are juvenile , yes , but i feel like they are intended for a player putting on the headset for a short amount of time . everyone aren't a fan of them ( i like to think ragatha likes the adventures to an extent , though ) because they're jaded adults that are in the game for More Than A Day and are slowly being broken apart by the monotony of the circus . and that's something he cannot grasp .
so yeah . silly guy (: i have a lot planned for him here and it'll be fun (:

Social climbers and the relationship with power: Ada's tragedy
You buddies don't dimension how much I raised my eyebrows when I saw this scene:
Tumblr media
Ada climbing on top of a deer (a very typical symbolic representation of noble masculinity) who is trying to fiercely shake her off while she desperately clings to him with all her might...
Tumblr media
And is THAT what makes her have a flashback of her relationship with Tamerline? Buddy, I'm putting on a hat to take it off.
Anyway, this means I have enough material to talk about Ada.
Social climbers and power
Ada is, apparently, a social climber: she longs for a social space to which she feels she is entitled, but to which she considers herself not to belong. This is something that can give us clues about her socio-economic situation in life: social climbers are extremely common in spaces such as, for example, the child of a first generation of professionals or of parents who have been able to provide better economic passages despite not belonging to social elites.
So, one thing to be clear about the way Ada relates to people in general is through this lens: the way she tries to move up socially (i.e. to power) is through her relationships with people, if she is close to a person who has power or belongs to an elite, then she is accessing these spaces. If that person does not have it, then she uses the relationship to reassert the position she wants to have.
Ada's personal tragedy is that this way of relating to the world puts her in an extremely vulnerable position with respect to her interpersonal relationships because, if they were not asymmetrical from the beginning, she makes them asymmetrical. It's as true that Ada gets into complicated relationships willingly as it is that she is a victim of people like Tamerlane. You know, the same logic of tragedies.
So let me do a little review of all the relationships Ada has had in the comic, how they go and what is the pattern they follow.
The triad of discord
There are three things that all of Ada's relationships have in common (except one, but we'll get to that): 1) She seeks to get some sort of validation from the other person. 2) She tends to push the person's boundaries, even if they were explicitly stated. 3) Even if the person has some degree of affection or sympathy for her, Ada will never be her priority over other things. Be these things other people, personal desires, etc, etc.
So let's review this a bit.
Let's start with the bastard of Thomas Tamerline. If anything their interaction during chapter 110 makes clear to us is that the guy is quite explicit with the fact that this relationship is purely sex for him (and he possibly enjoys the degree of control he exerts over her), Ada repeatedly tries to get some validation or affection from him and the guy barely complies with the bare minimum.
Tumblr media
That he ends up murdering her indicates that, regardless of motive, he sees her as an inconvenience to his personal desires that must be gotten out of the way and, as the icing on the cake, puts the responsibility on her.
Now on to Prospero. His resemblance to Thomas is obvious enough to understand why Ada would be attracted to him and constantly seeks to touch him or be near him, no matter how much Prospero tells her that he is not interested in her. This is an attitude she has even before Annabel encourages her by saying that “Prospero is just being shy”.
Eventually it happens what it does: Prospero is fed up with her and doesn't hesitate to tell her so to her face. We can argue whether or not he's justified in being this cruel, but by the standards of this argument that's irrelevant: the important thing here is that Prospero doesn't care about Ada's feelings enough to be nicer.
Tumblr media
Let's go now to Lenore. Ada is extremely mean to her until Lenore demonstrates that she was able to pass the maze test on her own. This is, in Ada's eyes, a demonstration of power and she, as she is wont to do, will not pass up the opportunity to get on the good side of a person who could be a potential rising star.
Tumblr media
This is cut short by her same group, but they reconnect at the mansion trial. Since Lenore is not interested in relating on power terms (for better and for worse), here they have the opportunity to share on more equal terms on both their parts. Yes, Lenore is also doing this for personal reasons, but it doesn't take away from the merit.
Tumblr media
Ada ends up overstepping boundaries and betraying Lenore at the end of the trial. And after she learns of her Ada's involvement in Duke's kidnapping, well, all she has to say when Pluto fills her in is says that shitty relationship is strangely appropriate.
Yes, Lenore may have come to have some degree of affection for her, but Ada is no more important than her friends and after getting into something like that, to hell with her.
With Annabel things start to get more interesting. These two have a cocktail of projection and resentment between them: Annabel is all Ada wants, so she treats her like a pretty accessory that gives her status (something that definitely oversteps Annabel's boundaries, even if she hasn't expressed them because it doesn't suit her) and, to Annabel, Ada is little more than an important piece she can take advantage of.
This take it with a grain of salt because there are some “buts.”
On Ada's side, that she seeks help from Annabel when Montresor is being a fucking psycho is an indicator that she felt, at least, protected by Annabel. But as is often the case with her, the plan Annabel is carrying out is no more important than Ada, she just lets it happen.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Twice. Under the circumstances, Annabel chooses to help Prospero over Ada.
Tumblr media
However, Ada is not indifferent to Annabel: she is definitely furious with Montresor after what he did (In fact, this is the only scene so far where we have seen Annabel exercising any form of physical aggression)., she is uncomfortable when Prospero is mean to Ada, and there are a few small frames where she looks at her with sincere pity.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
But again, that won't make Annabel prioritize her over her own plans.
Finally, we come to the most interesting relationship here.
Tumblr media
Ada definitely cares about Morella, but that won't make constantly denigrating her a reaffirmation of the position she believes (or wants) to have: making comments like Morella's food “is poor.” Ada pecks at the boundaries with a stick, yet these things -for some reason- don't seem to bother Morella, who is able to see the good in her despite her bad attitudes. Until she stops doing it because not only participating in Duke's kidnapping, but also trying to play cool by making excuses is out of bounds even for Morella.
Tumblr media
But an interesting thing happens here too, remember how Ada is never a priority for anyone? Well, for a moment in her relationship with Morella it looks like this is going to be different. Morella makes a feeble attempt to defend her when Montresor makes her bark and puts a shield in her face when Prospero attacks her in the mansion trial.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Unfortunately for Ada, Morella is someone too lacking in backbone and too concerned with following the rules to stand up for her when it really counts.
After Ada manifests and bursts into tears, she pushes Morella away from her with a shove.
Tumblr media
Morella says she wants to help, but all it takes is for Poppet to remind her that she needs to get back the Merits she lost for Morella to finally give in.
Tumblr media
The two people Ada considered her friends have left her: Annabel has chosen to help Prospero and Morella has left.
That's when Montresor enters.
Tumblr media
And here begins the first break in Ada's toxic pattern of relationships...but not for the better.
Ada and Montresor
Oddly enough, these two are a good match...for horrible reasons. Montresor, like Ada, is a social climber who uses interpersonal relationships to get closer to power, only in a different way: where Ada sticks it to people who hold power, Montresor uses others to reassert himself in a position of power. So, Ada feeds Montresor's ego, while he can pretend to like her enough to keep Ada happy.
Because yes, Ada and Montresor's relationship fulfills most of the bad patterns in relationships that Ada usually has: she seeks validation in this relationship and Montresor definitely doesn't prioritize her (she constantly has to compete with Will for Montresor's attention, for example). But the important thing here is that, for once, Ada isn't the one constantly pecking at the other person's boundaries: it's Montresor who does it.
He pushes her around, teases her, calls her by other women's names, and it's probably only a matter of time before this starts to get worse. What's interesting is that Ada is able to get upset when this happens, unlike what we see in the flashback to her relationship with Thomas.
Tumblr media
So there is something changing here.
Conclusion
I'm not sure where this is going to lead, but one thing is for sure: Montresor is a reflection of a toxic pattern of behavior that Ada has in her relationships and if she's starting to get uncomfortable with it, it's not just because the abyss is staring back at her, but because she's getting herself into a situation too similar to her relationship with Thomas to not know how it might end.
Add to that this:
Tumblr media
This is the first time in the comic that Ada has had such a selfless gesture for another person. And that selfless gesture is something as big as putting herself in danger to save someone. As if all this wasn't enough, it's been to save Annabel: one of the two friends who turned their backs on her when she needed them.
I don't know if this will be the start of her character development or we should interpret it as deathflags placed over her head, but one thing is for sure: whatever is going to come out of here has quite a bit of potential.

things about ave mujica that are making me lose my mind
making a post to gather my thoughts after ep6 bc uhm. 😃
first off, WHERE IS UIKA!!! not only did she not appear ONCE in episode 6, but her angsty narration (which we usually hear throughout each episode) was also missing from episode 6!!! what!!! and the last time we saw her she was hugging saki’s pillow breathing in it and letting 2 mugs of coffee go cold in saki’s room. yearning and pining unstable style. im gonna lose my mind. UIKA COME BACK I NEED TO SEE YOU CRASH OUT SO BAD I NEED TO PICK YOUR BRAIN
I NEED SAKIKO TO BE OKAY ASAP. her situation is giving me palpitations i literally feel sick thinking about the position she is in rn. she lost EVERYTHING - her mom, her dad, her old life, crychic, her freedom, ave mujica, and mutsumi. she is living with a manipulative, controlling grandpa who robbed her of her freedom and treated her creative project she tried to use and get out of poverty and support herself and her dad as just a silly kid’s game that ended up as a mess he fixed for her. she found out her best friend has DID and her alter told her “YOU broke her and made her go dormant. i hate you. she might never be back”. and rn she’s deeply avoidant and dissociated and she feels she cannot/doesnt want to share what happened with her dad or her family so where to fucking start opening up??? and she’s alone and has to go through it alone anyway, so what’s the point? why would she ask for help? so she dissociates and avoids and rejects tomori’s kindness. and now soyo is pissed at her and no one understands what she’s going through and she’s all alone and putting up walls is the only way she’s not falling apart but everyone sees her as a villain with her walls up. im feeling sick im feeling sick im crying on the bus
CAN WE PLEASE ADDRESS HOW NYAMU GOT AN INFERIORITY COMPLEX ABOUT ACTING BC OF MUTSUMI’S “PERFORMANCE”?? WHEN MUTSUMI JUST HAD A MENTAL BREAKDOWN ON STAGE? like this is insane. GIRL SHE WASNT ACTING 😭 pls take up the acting job you wanted!! i feel bad for her she’s so deeply insecure she also needs help. someone help her
fr is umiri on T? her voice keeps getting lower every episode 😭 she’s trying to achieve butch levels never seen before in girls band anime, next episode she’s coming in with short hair and a carabiner ⛓️. jokes aside i need her to stop with the “im too cool to care” act and admit she cares about the members of avemuji and pls help them bc ngl i feel like she’s the most mentally stable of the bunch. tho looking at the opening i might be wrong tbh lmao
makes me insane how mortis is the protector but also she’s clearly a little - an alter who is still a child. i love her so much. but also like mortis and mutsumi need another fucking alter to mediate between them bc they’re giving me anxiety!! ALSO HELLO?? THEY FELL DOWN A FLIGHT OF STAIRS? had a public breakdown that got filmed by people as soyo shielded them??? they were locked in their room for like what, 2 months?? soyo spent 3 days and nights with mortis and mutusmi’s parents did not appear once bro. we saw one maid lead soyo to the room which was a WRECK and soyo was the one who helped tidy up. mutsumi’s family has completely given up on her and mortis, hid them like a dirty secret in their bedroom. it makes me sick i hate them i hate them
raana. that’s it. she makes me insane. aura farming like it’s a full time job
i need these girls to get help rn. please someone get them a group therapist im so fr

Not for me to accept the apology in the first place so don’t put too much stock in my opinion, but the thing thats disappointing me about RTVS’ apology, particularly Mike’s, is that like as much as I do genuinely appreciate them saying “we’re sorry, we shouldn’t have reacted badly”, I kind of wish there was a direct acknowledgement that the problem here wasn’t just attitude, it was racism. Like, I do appreciate Mike’s apology, but saying “one of my comments made people uncomfortable” and was “hurtful from the position of me being a white guy” is a very circuitous way to address that when you got annoyed you immediately said something racially charged. Regardless of the the situation, if in response to an Indigenous person’s criticisms someone said something along the lines of ‘do you really have your tribe’s best interests at heart’, I would say “woah, that’s a fucking weird and racially charged thing to say.” Immediately jumping to saying “your tribe” about anything here belies a very callous understanding of Indigenous issues, which is exactly the problem being raised in the first place. And that’s what I was hoping would be acknowledged in the formal apology, you know? I think (I hope) they ultimately mean well, and I’m not going to stop watching altogether because I have hope this did spur internal discussion that can lead to a more understanding viewpoint, but at the same time I am still personally disappointed.

I'd be tempted to shift the focus to a realization going from 'I need someone I can trust to watch my back' to 'Adora also needs someone she can trust to watch her back' . Catra certainly expresses these underlying needs as you say, 'Adora always has to be the hero' but part of the subtext to that is at the cost of abandoning me and leaving me without someone to watch my back.
By Corridors Catra has recognized the pattern that Adora's not just threatened by external forces but by her own habit of diving in headfirst and hoping she can punch her way out. Always has to be the hero turns out to have a cost for Adora too. By this point Catra's more or less given up on finding safety for herself but hopes to shield Adora by removing the obligation to dive into danger on Prime's ship.
By Failsafe there's another level of understanding added, not only does Adora need someone to watch her back but Catra is uniquely capable of doing this, in some way Catra is special to Adora. I think that's part of why she's so heartbroken at the end of Failsafe.
I'm of the opinion that Catra ends up expressing herself in a somewhat misleading way at the end of Failsafe, not exactly unusual for her. She starts by focusing on her bitterness about Shadow Weaver's words and Adora's lack of pushback, but a connected thread here is Catra can't help Adora. She circles back to Adora's self-sacrificing nature though with 'when do you get to choose, what do you want Adora' .
This is the core of CatrAdora's problem at the end of Failsafe, Adora's going to sacrifice herself and there's nothing Catra can do about it, she's played every card, made every argument and Adora made her choice. With the facts available to both of them Catra tagging along will only make things worse.
Her conversation with Melog is a whole lot of her trying to build a plausible fiction for herself that's a bit less painful then the truth. Loving Adora but only being a friend to Adora would be painful, yes. Loving Adora and being loved by her only to have that realization on the literal eve of her demise? Worse by far. Makes all the what-ifs of their past all the more painful.
On top of Catra's departure putting some distance between herself and what would be an excruciating situation for her it also helps Adora. Adora usually just denies her way out of the downside of her self-sacrificing nature but Catra brings that issue back into focus during their conversation and underscores the seriousness of it with her departure.
This helps Adora get to the point of standing up to Shadow Weaver and washes away that thick layer of denial that she uses to shield herself from danger in her head. Mara helps further drive home the point that right or wrong it's a tragedy that Adora's walking to her doom and she at least has the right to mourn all the things she hasn't done, which is precisely what Catra is doing with Melog. Mourning the passing of her fondest wish.
What alters things is Catra being presented with an actual material thing she can do to help ( Prime going after the Heart ), Adora may still die but Catra will be damned if she's going to see all her hopes and dreams burn in magical fire and not save Etheria from Prime. So she goes back to help Adora and in the process they both discover that Catra can save Adora even from the Heart and so Adora lives and She-Ra can save the universe.

Tumblr media
You were having a terrible day. The kind of day where nothing seemed to go right. Your morning coffee had spilled all over your favorite sweater, your boss had dumped an unreasonable amount of work on your desk, and to top it all off, you’d gotten stuck in the rain on your way home. By the time you walked through your front door, you were soaked, frustrated, and in desperate need of some comfort.
That’s why you had your music turned up loud, the bass thumping through your small apartment as you stood in the kitchen, staring at the oven.
The scent of chocolate chip cookies wafted through the air, but they weren’t baking fast enough for your liking. You crossed your arms and leaned against the counter, tapping your foot impatiently. If you stared hard enough, maybe they’d bake faster.
You were so lost in your thoughts that the knock on your door startled you. You straightened up, frowning. You weren’t expecting anyone, and your friends usually texted before showing up.
Wiping your hands on your apron, you walked to the door and peered through the peephole. Standing on the other side was your neighbor—the tall, lanky guy from across the hall. You were pretty sure his name was Spencer. You’d seen him around a few times, always carrying a stack of books or muttering to himself as he fumbled with his keys.
Your friends had heard you refer to him as “the cute neighbour” more than once, and you never felt the need to correct them.
You opened the door slowly, raising an eyebrow. “Hi?” you said, your voice tinged with confusion.
He stood there, looking slightly awkward and not particularly happy. His hair was a little messy, like he’d been running his hands through it, and he was wearing a sweater that looked like it had seen better days.
“Hi,” he replied, his tone flat. He shifted his weight from one foot to the other, avoiding direct eye contact. “Could you, um, lower your music? It’s… kind of loud.”
You blinked, caught off guard. Of all the things you’d expected him to say, that wasn’t it. You crossed your arms over your chest, your frustration from the day bubbling to the surface. “It’s not that loud,” you said defensively, your voice sharper than you intended. “I’m just trying to unwind after a really crappy day.”
Spencer’s eyes flicked up to meet yours for a brief moment before darting away again. He looked uncomfortable, like he wasn’t sure how to handle the situation.
“I understand that,” he said slowly, his voice softer now, “but it’s… it’s really distracting. I’m trying to work, and I can’t focus with the bass vibrating through the walls.”
You sighed, running a hand through your hair. Part of you wanted to argue, to tell him that you had every right to blast your music in your own apartment, but the look on his face stopped you.
He didn’t seem angry—just tired and a little stressed. Still, you weren’t ready to back down completely. “Fine,” you said, your tone clipped. “I’ll turn it down. But just so you know, it’s not like I do this every day.”
He nodded, his shoulders relaxing slightly. “Thank you,” he said quietly. “I appreciate it.”
You didn’t respond, just closed the door a little harder than necessary and leaned against it, letting out a frustrated groan.
Great. Now you were the bad guy. You stomped back to the kitchen and turned the music down, the sudden silence making the apartment feel eerily empty.
The timer on the oven dinged, and you pulled out the cookies, setting them on the counter to cool. The smell was heavenly, but it did little to improve your mood.
In the days that followed , things between you and Spencer were… awkward. Not hostile, but not exactly friendly either. You’d pass each other in the hallway, exchanging the briefest of glances before quickly looking away.
There were no greetings, no small talk—just a dry, unspoken tension that hung in the air.
You told yourself it didn’t matter. He was just your neighbor, after all. Sure, he was cute in a nerdy, endearing kind of way, but that didn’t mean you had to be friends.
Still, you couldn’t help but feel a little disappointed every time you saw him and he didn’t so much as smile in your direction.
A week later, you found yourself in the cozy little bookstore across the street from your apartment. It was one of your favorite places to escape to.
You’d been searching for a specific book for ages—Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck. You’d read it before, years ago, but something about the story had stuck with you, and you’d been itching to revisit it.
As you wandered through the fiction section, your eyes scanned the spines of the books until you finally spotted it. There it was, sitting on the shelf like it had been waiting for you.
A small smile tugged at your lips as you reached for it, but just as your fingers brushed the spine, another hand reached for it at the same time.
You froze, your eyes darting up to meet Spencer’s. He looked just as surprised as you were, his hand hovering awkwardly in the air. For a moment, neither of you said anything.
“Sorry,” you mumbled finally, dropping your hand and taking a step back. “You can have it.”
Spencer blinked, his expression softening. “No, no, it’s okay,” he said quickly, his voice quiet. “You were here first. I can find another copy.”
You shook your head, gesturing toward the book. “Really, it’s fine. I’ve read it before. I was just… in the mood to read it again.”
He hesitated, his fingers brushing the edge of the book. “It’s a good one,” he said after a moment, his tone thoughtful. “The themes of friendship and sacrifice are really compelling. And the ending…” He trailed off, his gaze distant, as if he were reliving the story in his mind.
You couldn’t help but smile, surprised by how easily he’d opened up about it.
“Yeah,” you agreed, your voice softer now. “It’s heartbreaking, but in a way that makes you think. I remember finishing it and just sitting there for a while, trying to process everything.”
Spencer nodded, a small smile playing on his lips. “Exactly. It’s one of those books that stays with you long after you’ve read it.”
The tension between you seemed to melt away as you talked, the conversation flowing more naturally than you’d expected.
You found yourself leaning against the bookshelf, your arms crossed as you debated the symbolism of the rabbits and the dream of owning a farm. Spencer, for his part, seemed to relax too, his gestures becoming more animated as he spoke.
At one point, he paused, his expression turning slightly sheepish. “I, um, I wanted to apologize for the other day,” he said, his voice quieter now. “I didn’t mean to come off as rude when I asked you to turn the music down. I was just… stressed, and I didn’t handle it well.”
You shook your head, feeling a pang of guilt. “No, I’m the one who should apologize,” you said quickly. “I was having a bad day, and I took it out on you. That wasn’t fair.”
The conversation lulled for a moment, but it wasn’t uncomfortable.
Spencer shifted his weight, his fingers tapping lightly against the book he was still holding. “So, um,” he began, his voice hesitant, “if you’re not in a rush, there’s a coffee shop next door. I was going to grab a cup, and… well, if you’d like to join me, we could keep talking about the book. Or, you know, whatever.”
You blinked, caught off guard by the invitation.. “Yeah,” you said finally, a small smile tugging at your lips. “I’d like that.”
His smile widened, and you could’ve sworn you saw a faint blush creep across his cheeks. “Great,” he said, his voice a little brighter now. “Let me just, uh, pay for this first.”
He turned and walked toward the register, leaving you standing there, slightly stunned. You watched as he handed the cashier the book. When he turned back to you, he held the book out, his expression soft.
“Here,” he said, offering it to you. “You should have it. You were looking for it, after all.”
You stared at him, surprised. “But… you paid for it,” you said, your voice tinged with confusion. “I can’t just take it.”
He shrugged, his smile shy but persistent. “Consider it a peace offering.”
You hesitated for a moment before taking the book, your fingers brushing against his briefly. “Thank you,” you said quietly, your cheeks warming. “That’s… really sweet of you.”
He nodded, his hands slipping into his pockets as he rocked back on his heels. “So, coffee?” he asked, his tone hopeful.
“Coffee,” you agreed smiling, tucking the book under your arm.

Hello 👋 could I please request headcanons for leona's fem s/o defending him everytime one of the other characters start making backhanded comments to his face (if you've seen some of the vignettes you'll know what I mean) she doesn't reveal things like he's depressed or anything (tho he is) she just tells them it's shitty of them calling him lazy/selfish constantly without even knowing him personally
[Everyone treats leona like crap and I take personal offense to it >:( ]
You know i make fun of him on a regular basis. but theres a line thats gotta be drawn when it comes to leona bullying. cause damn this guy needs a real Break he cant even have issues in peace
Tumblr media
𐙚 Leona Kingscholar
Before you got closer to him, there’s a fair chance the comments didn’t even stand out to you at all. It always felt a little unfair, yes, but not in a way that was particularly shocking, they were all just rude comments like any other. Back when you weren’t quite friends yet, and maybe even at the start of your friendship, you might have interjected with a simple ”hey, he’s not that bad” or "you don’t need to be rude about it”. It was just a gesture of basic politeness then, something the people around you seemed to lack.
But obviously, your perception of those interactions, and the way you see Leona’s situation itself, soon went through a rather radical change. Possibly even before you two started dating, or even before he “told you too much” — His own words, mumbled dismissively but bitterly, the day he came back after spending a weekend with his family and then proceeded to complain for a little longer than usual — As he warmed up to you, you started to notice things about him more. You started to see the spark of actual passion he has in his eyes during his club activities, the level of detail he gets into when analyzing things, the precise way he moved his chess pieces when you two played...
Above all, though, you started to notice how he often looked actually tired when he took part in any of the “slacking” he’s so infamous for. Learning the littlest bit more about his family life just worked as the final piece of the puzzle you’d been putting together without even noticing — And then, other people’s “rudeness” started to sound like something much more cruel. It didn’t help that he never seemed to react to it whenever he overheard others gossiping, or whenever you told him about the things you heard. “Why doesn’t he care?” The thought would echo in your mind for ages, trying to understand him through the tiny slivers of vulnerability he didn’t mean to show.
Now, as his girlfriend, you feel you just can’t let people say whatever they want, and you feel it more strongly than you ever have. ”Why don’t you mind your own business instead of talking about someone you don’t really know?” You snap back on instinct when one of your classmates, who was in Savanaclaw, comments on how lazy their dorm leader is. Their mouth closes instantly, regardless if you’ve made your relationship public or not — You realize that, on top of all the negative treatment Leona got, it was also extremely rare for others to defend him in any way at all. Enough that even a response that simple elicits shock from others.
”You know, it’s crazy to see you hanging out with Leona like that. I never thought I'd see anyone get so excited to spend time with him.” You hear some other day, while spending time in Savanaclaw’s common area, sat right next to Leona, and it just makes your blood boil. He’s just half-glaring at your particularly cocky acquaintance, sighing like he’s heard it a million times before, which you know he probably has. ”Hey, make sure you don’t get too influenced, we don’t need another person who just sleeps all day—”
”Yeah, you’re right. This type of person can be such a pain. I’m so glad I don’t know anyone who’s, you know, actually like that.” You say through grit teeth, just barely holding back aggression, and in the corner of your vision, the subtle flash of surprise in Leona’s face only encourages you to continue. ”Imagine if like, the Magift team had this sort of player in it… the club would be done for.”
They stare at you with wide eyes, having very much picked up on the aggression. The entire room is silent, you refuse to break eye contact, arms firmly crossed. ”Well, I mean…” The student stammers, but then, Leona himself speaks up for once. ”Did you not get her message? You need me to tell you to shut up instead?” He snaps, and they frantically shake their head, eyes fixed on the ground. You feel pride swelling in your chest, almost unable to hold back your smile.
”You know, Herbivore, if I needed a bodyguard I’d already have one.” He tells you later, in that same day. His tone has that snarky edge that feels like his default, but it’s much less pronounced than usual. You can even see a sort of softness in his eyes while he tries to play it cool. But needing and deserving are two different things, you think. As interactions like these repeat, with you defending him every time, you hope your message fully gets through to him, one day.

I fully agree with all of this and I want to highlight something I noticed here that I think is incredibly important, which is:
Sometimes those books were very adult, and sometimes I put them down because they were too weird or confusing for me at the time.
My parents also let me read whatever I wanted and I can verify that I was never traumatized by a book either. In fact, I would go so far as saying that the ability to self-regulate my reading growing up actively protected me from instances of being traumatized.
Kids are told to report to adults if they're feeling uncomfortable, but we often don't tell them what "uncomfortable" feels like and that it can vary pretty widely in different situations. My parents not only reinforced that I could read whatever I wanted but that I could stop reading whenever I wanted.
I got to practice evaluating my comfort levels and exiting situations where I was scared or uncomfortable or didn't want to be there every time I opened a book. Reading became a primer in consent. Books were always safe; they could not make me read them, they could not pressure me, they could not threaten me, they could not harm me. If I was done, I was done and that was that.
Kids are given almost no agency and I cannot overstate how important the ability to say no, even to a book, was in my development and my ability to self-advocate.
Plus, when I wanted to stop reading certain books and my parents asked me why, it also turned into a lesson in the different kinds of discomfort and which "uncomfortable" should be challenged. The ability to understand that you should learn about historical injustices but you don't have to read fic with a kink you don't like is incredibly important and incredibly undervalued.
The ability to take breaks when engaging with difficult topics, to take a breath and get a glass of water and center yourself, and then return when you're capable of doing so, is also incredibly important. I learned it from reading and it's currently keeping me sane in all this fucking madness.
I keep seeing aggressive "don't let kids read Wicked, it's inappropriate!!!" posts, and they're deeply irritating.
Would I recommend the novel to a random 12 year old I don't know? Probably not! But I first read Wicked at 12, and it's not like it permanently scarred me. It's not like I couldn't follow the plot. I didn't understand all the sociopolitical and religious commentary at 12, but that's why I went on to re-read it multiple times throughout my life. I get more from it each time.
There's sex and violence, yes, but I knew what sex was at 12, and I was seeing violence and war on the news every day. Why's the fictional sex and violence worse? Why should a kid not challenge themself with a book outside their comfort zone? Every kid deserves the chance to wig themselves out with a weird book they don't fully understand yet, and Wicked was mine.
My wife is very fond of a Mitch Hedberg quote I think is relevant here: "Every book is a children's book, if the kid can read."
(Also I think it's weird that people fixate on the puppet sex and the BDSM club, and not the parts where Elphaba bashes someone's skull in, or Turtle Heart gets lynched, or the soldiers abduct Fiyero's entire family as political prisoners. The "sex is evil, violence is fine" moral panic is eternal.)

I don't know if it's been said or if this makes any sense, but I don't really agree when people say that Odysseus was finally completely rejecting the idea of Open Arms when he shot Eurymachus. Like. That was not Open Arms.
Polites' Open Arms was always about beginning a relationship/interaction with genuineness and a desire for diplomacy and peace. It was never a way to avoid the consequences of your actions. Polites' Open Arms was a way to avoid conflict before it got out of hand, but Eurymachus was just looking for heartstrings to pull on to escape what he had coming. I don't think it's a stretch to say Odysseus knew this. Even if he doesn't understand Open Arms fully, even if he's decided that he can no longer afford to give the benefit of the doubt, he knows that this is not what Polites stood for. And honestly, what could be more disrespectful to Polites' memory than using a hollow caricature of his philosophy in an attempt to get away with everything Eurymachus did? Odysseus knew, and he punished Eurymachus for even daring to try to sully Polites' memory, intentionally or not.
You know who I think really gets Polites' Open Arms, even if they don't know it?
Telemachus.
When confronting the suitors as a warrior of the mind, even after they have done nothing to deserve it, Telemachus gave them a genuine opportunity to make amends. BUT he was also very clear that this was a final ultimatum, and that he wouldn't hold back if they didn't surrender. He put the ball in their court, and when they showed their hand, he acted accordingly.
In some sense, Telemachus is everything that both Athena and Polites wanted to see in Odysseus. Even if he never met Polites, I think it's sweet that Odysseus will be able to see his best friend's philosophy have the chance to grow into what it was always supposed to be. That his son will get the opportunities to be merciful that he was never given.
On a slightly different note, I also think a lot of people assume Open Arms, and Polites with it, to be very pacifistic. I think that's a good and valid assumption/interpretation, but I always saw it differently? Polites might be idealistic, but I don't think he's naive. He's a trained soldier, he went through a 10 year long war. You don't go through that and think that peace is always the solution, or even always possible.
Polites was also a strategist, but a different kind.
To greet life with open arms is, like I said before, to enter each interaction and situation with an honest desire for diplomacy and peace. By showing the enemy all your cards and giving them a no-strings-attached opportunity to reach a compromise, you can minimize the need for conflict before things even get the chance to escalate. Ideally, a deal can be made, and both sides can leave unharmed.
And if they refuse the offer of Open Arms, you've learned a great deal. This situation cannot be solved peacefully, and the enemy refused mercy when they had nothing to lose and everything to gain, so you can expect them to not grant you mercy. Thus, you can't let it get to that point. No more holding back.
All that is to say, I personally see Polites as more of the "be nice first, because you can always be mean later, but once you've been mean to someone, they won't believe the nice anymore. So be nice, be nice, until it's time to stop being nice, then destroy them" type.
I'm gonna go to bed now.

Pathologic 3: Devlog #02
Tumblr media
Text-format
Video Format
youtube
Important snippets:
You Are Not a Butcher
Every game in the Pathologic series tells the story of a person in a plague-ridden town. If that person is Haruspex — a self-taught surgeon who relies on intuition, a scalpel, and his knowledge of the Steppe — you get Pathologic 2, a survival-focused game where a doctor literally plunges his hands into human flesh.
But if our protagonist is Daniil Dankovsky — a renowned medical scholar, an observer, an analyst, someone who only resorts to laboratory research in the most exceptional cases — then the story takes a different turn, and the gameplay must change accordingly.
Tumblr media
A Chance for Salvation
Finding himself in a city ravaged by the Sand Plague, Daniil, as a true scientist, notices something strange. Some patients don’t die within five hours as they’re supposed to. Could it be that… the Sand Plague is weakened by other diseases? If that’s the case, then by studying infected patients and uncovering the cause of this anomaly, one could develop a vaccine. An imperfect, temporary solution… but what if it’s the first step towards salvation?
And so, from doctor and researcher, Dankovsky is forced to become a detective. You enter a hospital hastily set up in the town’s theater. Examine a patient’s medical file. Talk to them. Observe them. But something doesn’t add up. A misdiagnosis? Symptoms misinterpreted? Or… Are the patients simply lying?
Tumblr media
Prepare for Consequences
But… Put yourself in the shoes of an ordinary townsperson. Would you agree to be injected with an untested vaccine during an epidemic? And that’s assuming you even understand what a vaccine is — an uneducated factory worker might not. And if people are subjected to unexplained injections every day, they will start forming conspiracy theories and even riot.
Be careful when issuing city-wide mandates and enforcing quarantine measures. Frightened citizens won’t accept overly strict rules — if you push too hard, they will come for you and kill you before you can save the town. Unfortunately, a doctor from the Capital must fight not only the plague and death itself but also his own patients. Bachelor may risk his life to save them, yet still be seen as a tyrant, a tormentor, a madman.
Important Note: Ice-Pick Lodge studio have yet to address or acknowledge the Dybowski abuse/grooming/kidnapping his own child situation.
