i get so protective over kids when their parents are forcing them to get jobs for the summer and not because the kid wants to or has anything in mind to save up for. i saw a post about some guy wanting to have his 13 yr old son mow lawns to help him "recognize the value of a dollar" and not for any real reason other than the dad didn't want to just let him be a kid and play video games all summer long. i understand some parents struggle and school is the only way they can guarantee their kids have food/clean water/etc. so having them apply for jobs so the kid can care for themself helps, but to just make your kid get a job for the sake of getting a job is so stupiddd let them be kids let them ride around town on their bikes and play fortnite until 5 am it's normal. i think children are growing up way too fucking fast now and seeing the effect it has on teenagers and pre-teens is so fucking sad, i would rather let my kids be able to do normal childhood things and hang out with friends instead of making them do labor in the summer heat for 20 hrs a week just because i'm mad that i have to do labor for 40+ hrs a week even though it literally isn't the kid's fault. let kids be kids for as long as they need to be, someone still going through puberty does not need to experience having a job on top of everything else
