XD “I’m glad we can talk about this” Well, as uncomfortable as that topic may be, I feel like Phoenix is the only person Edgeworth would be willing to talk about this type of stuff with.
Also, sorry if I’m prying or bothering you with this question but I’m curious, in this AU, how did Edgeworth end up with Scout? I feel like there’s a backstory here that I don’t fully understand and really want to know about
Thank you! I never wanted to come out and say what the backstory to the Scout AU was unless someone asked for it bc I know it can be squicky for a lot of people. So thank you for asking because I have a whole backstory for them!
It starts as many things in the AA universe starts. Von Karma is not a good parent nor a good teacher and neither Franziska nor Miles are brought up with the best sex education.
Miles is trans in this AU and has known from a very young age (it’s a hc of mine that spreads across many AUs). Gregory had plans to start him on puberty blockers, and they were going to educate themselves on it all together but it never happened because you know. So, it falls on von Karma when Miles very sheepishly asks, years later, if he can do something.
And von Karma is an asshole and abusive, but he reasons with himself that Miles can’t become a decent attorney if he’s overwhelmed by dysphoria as a teen. Miles gets to start T but there’s not a whole lot of Discussion about it, you know? Von Karma really did the bare minimum to get him some medical care.
Miles is about 21 and he’s exploring sexual relationships for the first time, and he’s meeting all these men that travel in all these attorney social cricles. And he doesn’t realize that HRT doesn’t work as a contraceptive. He thinks that since he hasn’t menstruated since he was a teen, there’s no risk. That’s how it should work, right?
But it doesn’t. He ends up pregnant and thinks that well, having a child might be nice. He doesn’t have much of a family, and he’s been longing for that for so long. He decides to do the single father thing. He doesn’t ever learn who Scout’s other father is, but he thinks that it’s probably best not to track down the guy and be like, “Turns out I should have been taking birth control, and yeah I probably should have mentioned to you that I wasn’t taking birth control. Anyway, I’m having your kid and you might want to check your condoms. It appears they’re defective.”
Von Karma doesn’t really care (not until Scout is actually born and he sees it as another potential student he can groom to carry on his legacy and make himself look good). Franziska is immediately like, “Well, I guess have to be an aunt now, huh?” And doesn’t wait for a response before she sits in on nanny interviews and tags along on shopping trips.
Miles is a very, very overwhelmed and tired dad for a while and for a hot minute, he kinda grows distance. It’s around the time he gets framed for Robert Hammond’s murder. He just feels like he’s not a good father (he is) and starts thinking that if he murdered his father, what’ll stop him from hurting his daughter?
But all at once (after his trial) he realizes that Scout is a very happy toddler and that he’s been developing a lovely relationship with her. And it goes from there. He becomes a very doting father and starts getting support from new friends.
