In short: I really love his writing, he's such a well-executed villain right up my alley. Longer explanation below;

I think he works so well (to me, again, this stuff is subjective after all) because his personality still feels...very human in a way? It's the worst parts of what a human can be, but still human.

He reminds me of certain kinds of people I've seen out there, that are truly abhorrent and genuinely don't realize how awful they are being. AFO is so terrifying of a villain to me because...he actually feels like somebody who could exist, aside from the crazy powers. He's not some unfathomable evil (tho that can also work depending on the story, don't get me wrong) but simply a really really, REALLY bad case of a human with worst possible personality traits imaginable.

Also, I mean.

I can't help but enjoy villain characters with sass, that they can actually back up. I've seen so many villains who talk big but come crumbling down relatively easily. This guy, even after he was arrested, was clearly in control of his situation. He feels like he's always a step or two ahead of you, which makes him such a terrifying and well-written antagonist. (To me, again. This is subjective like mentioned before haha)

least favorite thing about them

....His design. It's also so weird to me how I really enjoy his character for the role he plays, despite absolutely despising his design lmao. Like I've NEVER liked suit villains, and his helmet is ridiculous to me.

I guess it goes to show that for me personally, the writing matters more than character design? I sometimes envy those who can enjoy a character just for their appearance lmao.

(and of course, realistically speaking, I absolutely hate what he's done to Tomura, obviously, but this is more from emotional viewpoint, whereas the answer above is more from a writer's/writing/not-looking-at-it-like-an-IRL-situation viewpoint)

IDK, is liking his character an unpopular one? Like obviously he's a horrible person and I'd def. not wanna meet and know somebody like this bastard, (and wish people with his kind of personality didn't exist) but as a character in a story he's very entertaining.
