honestly i feel like people focus on their personal least favorite showrunner being racist/sexist so that they don't have to reckon with the whole entire show being racist/sexist
#lifeblogs#like. every new who showrunner has written racist/sexist things#i'm sure classic who showrunners have too i just haven't seen a ton of it#ALTHOUGH ACE DOES STRAIGHT-UP USE A RACIAL SLUR AT ONE POINT. LIKE.#but it's like. well it's easier to demonize one guy than to admit that the show you like is racist and sexist#even the conceit of like. the doctor often being an older man and traveling with a younger woman#is a lot#and like. yeah it's also the starting point of possibly my favorite ship of all time (doctorrose)#but. the convention is a little weird!#and not every doctor/companion dynamic is like that but it is still baked into perception of the show#there's constantly weird colonialism#shoutout to when yaz is all 'we really do need to return this' and jericho is all 'IT'S A DISCOVERY' and they just never address THAT#but like. there are lots of points like that#like lots of the ethos of the time travel too can start to feel imperialist. or at least it does to me#especially in rtd era? but i don't feel educated enough to talk more about it#anyway. it's possible the show just sucks on some levels.#that's. okay.
