People actually think Merlin (BBC) was "queerbait"? For real? The creators never denied the homoeroticism and metaphor and they were clearly telling a tragedy. In 2010. And what, people expected a traditional love confession and onscreen kiss? Why the fuck would you want that, I'm serious.

#Not every tv show has the unique intersection of homophobia and homoeroticism of stuff like supernatural #and not every company is as involved in micromanaging its fan base as 2014-2024 disney-marvel.#Merlin has flaws but I'm over halfway through and it seems to be playing out exactly as intended.#This genuinely seems to be a narrative decision and I'm gonna level with everyone...i think it's generally a good one.#☠️#Arthur/Gwen was a little forced in the early seasons. Not because they don't have good chemistry but bc it never came off as romantic to me #But I genuinely don't think that was some kind of 'cover' for the gay romance they'd clearly created #unless there's some para text I'm completely unaware of. But as far as the text goes it seems like the story they wanted to tell.
