The books say Sirius is tall, Gary Oldman is average height: fandom makes Sirius 5ft2. The book makes no mention of Remus' height impling that he's probably average especially compared to scenes with Sirius who is always described as tall and Peter who's short in the books and average-ish in the movies, but fandoms agrees no matter what Peter is still short. David Thewlis is 6ft2, the fandom makes Remus 6ft 3 or taller. At the very least why didn't Sirius' height get averaged out, why sooo much shorter than both versions of canon? Make it make sense.
Why is it so important to me that Sirius is tall? Idk, why is it so important to the fandom that Remus be so much taller than him? Hmh? Why did their personalities switch when their heights got switched?
No hate just desperately looking for Sirius Black and sad that I can't find him anywhere anymore.

Canon Sirius through quotes
Part 1. Appearance
In the canon, he's described as handsome 3 times from Harry's point of view - but never pretty. By the way, Harry has only described four people as handsome (+ Tom Riddle, Cedric Diggory and Gellert Grindelwald).
"Sirius was tall and handsome. He loped with an easy grace, his hands in his pockets and a grin on his face."
"Beside him was Sirius, carelessly handsome, his slightly arrogant face so much younger and happier than Harry had ever seen it alive."
"Sirius stared around at the students milling over the grass, looking rather haughty and bored, but very handsomely so."
"Sirius was lounging in his chair at his ease, tilting it back on two legs. He was very good-looking; his dark hair fell into his eyes with a sort of casual elegance neither James’s nor Harry’s could ever have achieved, and a girl sitting behind him was eyeing him hopefully, though he didn’t seem to have noticed."
"He's still handsome, isn't he, even after Azkaban?" (Tonks about Sirius, Pottermore)
So, Sirius was handsome, but definitely not pretty. The word handsome can be used for all genders, highlighting attributes like strength, elegance, or a more classic form of beauty.
His height is described as tall several times. James is described as the same height as Harry in the Deathly Hallows, meaning at the time of his death James was as tall as Harry in the 7th book: “James was exactly the same height as Harry”. He was described as tall in later books but not as tall as other characters like Dumbledore, Ron, Sirius, Draco, Tom Riddle, Bill.
In England, as in most Western countries, a man is usually considered tall if he is over 6 feet. Typically, very tall is considered to be 6 feet 3 inches and above. So, James could be somewhere from 6 to 6'3", and Sirius taller, say 6'3"-6'4", Remus possibly under 6', but not short, since Harry doesn't note his height at all.
"To Sirius’s right stood Pettigrew, more than a head shorter, plump and watery-eyed, flushed with pleasure at his inclusion in this coolest of gangs, with the much admired rebels that James and Sirius had been."
The average head length of an adult, regardless of gender and age, usually about 8.7 to 9.8 inches. So, Peter was noticeably shorter.
6'3"-6'4" is indeed very tall. (When fanon gives Remus a height of 6.7, I wonder, have you often seen such giants in real life? My granddad is 6'8" – and he's huge to me, frighteningly so.)
After Azkaban and in the fifth book, he has long hair, but in the fourth book, when Sirius is doing well and is relaxing somewhere in the south, he has short hair.
"Sirius looked different – the hair was short and clean now, Sirius’ face was fuller, and he looked younger, much more like the only photograph Harry had of him, which had been taken at the Potters’ wedding."
"Sirius, when he still had short hair" (Moody about Sirius in the Order of the Phoenix photo)
Though in the story about Sirius and James for the auction, Sirius had long hair in 1977:
"The one who had been driving had long black hair; his insolent good looks reminded Fisher unpleasantly of his daughter’s guitar-playing, layabout boyfriend."
I prefer him with long hair, so that's usually what I go with.
Build isn't described. We know Regulus was definitely smaller than Sirius, but nothing specific about Sirius himself.
"Regulus was instantly recognisable as the boy sitting in the middle of the front row: he had the same dark hair and slightly haughty look of his brother, though he was smaller, slighter and rather less handsome than Sirius had been."
His animagus form is a bear-like dog of huge size, but that’s a weak argument.
"The enormous, bear-like dog bounded forwards."
Perhaps canonically Sirius was naturally inclined to muscle (i.e., tall and muscular rather than lanky, because lankiness usually suggests skinniness. Regulus, likely, was lanky), but since he probably didn't engage in activities like workouts, he wasn't exactly buff. Muscles don't just appear out of thin air, but some people are naturally more muscular. Basically, a normal build that doesn't need any special description (not bulky, not skinny, just normal, but tall).
He definitely doesn’t have any tattoos described, but it's unlikely Harry would have inspected every part of his body for tattoos... So, I don’t quite get it when someone says "Sirius didn’t have tattoos". It's a blank slate.

heyyy could you please write smth where remus is with a taller reader (think 5'10 or 5'9) and other girls are talkinga bout how she won't fidn love bc guys will be intimidated and then this absoloute GOLIATH of a man (remus) appears and like hugs her and the girls have to shut up. also could you please please make her a girly girl. Im so tired of tall girls always being portrayed as masculine.
thanks a tonnnnnnnn!!!
"I mean she's pretty sure but she is just… so tall"
"Yeah I mean what guy would want that"
"Brad told me that guys like short girls specifically ones at yknow what height"
You heard all of these comments but none really stuck out to you. They were all phrases that you had heard before throughout your life. You were above average and lived in a town with mostly below average girls which made you seem even more massive. The gaggle of girls picked up their volume as they got closer.
"It's a waste she doesn't play basketball"
You almost let out a snort at that one. You were highly uncoordinated when it came to sports. You had in fact been pushed into basketball when you were younger but when it became clear that it was not something you enjoyed, you dropped out.
"I wonder how tall she is exactly"
5'10. That's how tall you were, give or take a few centimeters. You checked the time. Remus was supposed to meet you at 3:30 and it was currently 3:45.
"And she wears heels to parties. She is SO brave"
"Right? I wonder where she gets her clothes"
They couldn't be serious. You felt your eyes roll. They were acting like you were some ginormous creature and not 4 inches taller than them. You checked your watch again.
"I just wonder how hard it is for her to find a boyfriend?"
You heard someone behind you call your name and as you turned you caught a brief glimpse of the girls mouths hanging wide open. There a few feet in front of you was your glorious boyfriend holding flowers.
Remus hustled to catch up with you and gave you a sweet hug. His arms were huge as they wrapped around you and you felt bad for the way his poor back had to bend in order to give you a proper hug.
"I got these for you as an apology", He blurted before you could say anything.
"Remus", you laughed as you accepted the flowers, "you could have just called"
"Yeah but...", He trailed off as he shrugged. You craned your neck up even further too look him in the eyes. You felt your eyes crinkle from your smile.
Your smile only got wider as he grabbed your hand to walk. And it didn't even twitch when you passed the group of girls who were talking.
"Is that her boyfriend? Crikey how tall is he?", an incredulous voice spoke up from the group.
"6'6", Remus called over his shoulder smirking as he did so.
They quickly turned as to make it look as if they weren't staring but you didn't even notice too infatuated with your Goliath of a boyfriend.
heyy. I hope you liked this. my writings a bit rusty but I swear this time that I will actually write anything you guys send in within reason. I got a bit carried away with the comments. I'm not that tall myself (5'5) but there was a girl at my hs that was 6'2 and I wanted to be her so badd. Also unrelated fun fact but ginormous isn't a real word. Its a combo of gigantic and enormous and was first used in ELF.

ohhh hold on more on the marauders (&co) heights pleasepleaseplease
i'm always so happy when i make a post as bait hoping someone will ask me to elaborate and then they do <3
okay so. as an adult james is an Incredibly average height think of the most average height and that's james. BUT (this is so important) he was considered Pretty Tall up until the age of like 15 at which point everyone else hit their second growth spurt and he didn't grow a single centimeter. he is the way he is bc he spent his formative years as a Tall Person but the funny part is that he continues to act like that in adulthood while being the most average-heighted guy around (honestly i think james is one of those guys that from certain angles appears a little shorter than they are. ppl sometimes think he's fibbing about his height but he's not)
i'm a tall sirius truther but as i discussed with @/foursaints i do think he is shorter than remus (we'll get to that). i think sirius has always just been tall for his age and height is just never smth he's ever thought about. in the same way that people with tall privilege think height doesn't matter (bc they HAVE height). everyone in his family is tall so sirius just always expected to also be tall. i imagine him in his room like ugh i wish i wasn't sooo tall it's kinda inconvenient being so statuesque and willowy (being 100% genuine) and regulus wistfully thinks about killing him with a rock
if i'm living my truth remus is and always will be a gangly lanky freakishly tall guy. HOWEVER i don't think he reaches full lankiness until like age 14-ish. what this means is that from their 1st through 3rd years of schooling sirius is taller than remus. and then all of a sudden remus has to crane his neck down to properly look at sirius. and sirius isn't used to being dwarfed by people so ofc he's very normal about this (going on about how annoyingly tall remus is now and blinking up at him so endearingly and impishly). isn't this so romantic....
regulus is the inverse to james i think he is the Most Average Height but he's a late bloomer and he doesn't hit that height until like 17. prior to that he was considered pretty short for his age. he pretends he doesn't gaf about this but being the shortest in his entire family for most of his adolescence is like an added sprinkle of salt on the hellish purgatory that is his entire existence. i like to think of him being 18 and james trying to do the Seductive Loom (the only workable flirting tactic he's got) and regulus is staring him Directly in the eyes without a single emotion on his face (he's blushing internally) and james abruptly has to go lie down to process this

now that I've mentioned Remus, Sirius and Severus, I'm itching to talk about their clique in full:
Sirius is 6'3 / 191 cm (as stated above; described as tall many times and as the tallest marauder in their photo; aside from that, I need him to be exactly 10 cm taller than James for some reason)
James is 5'11 / 181 cm (described as tall and the same height as 17yo Harry at 21; and Harry isn't over 6 feet as evident from his Runcorn transformation, making his most probable height 5'11; besides I think he's the type to be totally pissed he didn't grow 2 more cm to reach 6'0 and the thought makes me chuckle)
Remus is 5'9 / 176 cm (as stated above)
Lily is 5'7.5 / 172 cm (described as having to look down on 14yo Harry, who's around 5'5 at the time)
Peter is 5'5 / 165 cm (described as a very short man barely taller than 14yo Hermione and 13yo Harry - both around 5'3 at the time; more than a head shorter than Sirius, so the 10 inches gap works)
then onto Sirius' darling relatives + their lovers:
Bellatrix is 6'1.5 / 187 cm (described as a tall woman; noticeably taller than 17yo Harry, so very tall)
Andromeda is 6'1 / 185 cm (described as having a striking resemblance to Bella, so she must be of similar height)
Regulus is 6'0.5 / 184 cm (described as smaller than Sirius, likely both in muscle and height; still tall cuz all Blacks are)
Lucius is 5'10.5 / 179 cm (not described = average; but Draco is tall, so Lucius is on the taller side of average)
Ted is 5'9 / 175 cm (not described = average)
Narcissa is 5'8 / 173 cm (as stated above; described as a tall woman; slightly shorter than average Severus; the same height as 16yo Harry - around 5'10 - though here I'm going to allow myself to speculate that Narcissa was wearing heels, otherwise Snape would have to be tall and he's not described as such)
bonus: Tonks is 5'5 / 165 cm (not described = average; her height was only ever mentioned when she went undercover as a tall woman, meaning she isn't that tall herself)
and finally golden trio and co, during and post-canon:
Ron is 6'5 / 196 cm (as stated above; was 6'4.5 / 194 cm in DH; full height at 18; grows 2 cm in a few months after the war)
Harry is 6'0.5 / 184 cm (was 5'11 / 180 cm in DH; full height at 19; love the popular headcanon of him finally surpassing James after the war - my vision is that he slowly grows just 4 extra cm in a year and a half, cuz frankly I can't imagine him reaching 6'1+)
Neville is 5'7.5 / 171 cm (full height at 17 by the beginning of DH; described as short but not very short, so I'd put him just below average; I like to think he got his last growth spurt the summer before 7th year, which Harry just didn't notice upon returning to Hogwarts, cuz Neville was still shorter than him)
Hermione is 5'5.5 / 166 cm (full height at 15 by the beginning of OOTP; only ever described as shorter than Harry and taller than Ginny, making her height pretty average; picked this specific number cuz I need Ron to be exactly 30 cm taller, it's fun)
Luna is 5'4.5 / 164 cm (full height at 15 by the beginning of HBP; taller than Ginny but otherwise not described, so she's average)
Ginny is 5'1 / 155 cm (full height at 14 by the end of OOTP; described as noticeably the smallest of the group during department fight; 16yo Harry can look over her head in the kiss scene, so she must be around 8-9 inches shorter than 5'10)
bonus: Draco is 6'1 / 186 cm (full height at 17 by the time of Easter hols in DH; described as slightly taller than 17yo Harry and 6 cm seems fair to me; even without growing after the war remains technically taller than grown Harry, but it's only noticeable cuz he has perfect posture while Harry doesn't)
also Dumbledore is 6'7 / 201 cm (described as taller than every Inferius in HBP and taller than everybody at the Ministry in OOTP)
the main reason I'm an average height Remus truther - aside from this little fact being canon - is simple:
the only "tall, thin and gangling, with big hands and feet, and a long nose" character I advocate for is Ronald Weasley who deserves to tower over each and every authority figure he encounters.
so by 3rd year Ron is 5'11 / 180 cm which is ridiculously tall for a 13 year old boy and makes him slightly taller than all his Professors:
btw UK average adult heights are 5'4-5'6 for women and 5'8-5'10 for men
5'10 / 178 cm McGonagall (described as a tall woman)
5'9.5 / 177 cm Snape (rather shorter than Sirius; slightly taller than Narcissa, who's exactly 5'8 / 173 cm for me)
5'9 / 176 cm Lupin (not described = average)
5'8 / 172 cm Filch (not described = average; not a Prof but Staff)
5'7 / 170 cm Sinistra (not described, but she was on the taller side in the movies so I'll give her that. shorter than Minerva still)
5'6 / 167 cm Trelawney (not described = average)
5'1 / 154 cm Sprout (describes as a squat little woman)
4'5 / 134 cm Flitwick (described as tiny but has distant goblin ancestry so I see him as being 5 inches taller than average goblin)
Dumbledore doesn't count cuz Ron barely stands next to the man and I reckon it's pretty hard to grow over 2 meters at 13. Hagrid is irrelevant cuz half-giant.
then Ron gets kidnapped by the first adult that year who looms over him at 6'3 / 191 cm - no wonder Sirius is terrifying, being that tall.
by the time Sirius dies Ron only grows to 6'2.5 / 189 cm so he never gets to be taller than him... shit now I'm making myself sad.
anyway, when he's done growing Ron is 6'5 / 196 cm, making him the tallest Weasley and probably the tallest man in any room ever.

Nice, very creative! I loved your next generation hc although isn't it a bit odd that both James and Albus are taller than Harry considering that Harry is tall-ish but not very tall in canon and Ginny is super short and small like a Prewett. Lmao I mean I don't really understand biology much but I feel like J and A would have to be suuper lucky to end up with those genes . Yeah but anyway I REALLY loved Auror Lily and Pediatric healer Teddy 🥰❣️
[for who hasn't read it, this question references this post]
I have a million old asks to answer but God, I'm fangirling over this question. I've never thought I'd actually have the opportunity to talk about biology of all things in an HP-centric blog!
To avoid sounding obnoxious I won't get into details but I am a biology nerd.
Ok, now I'm going to answer. I'm going to try to stay away from excessive technicalities. Before we start, I'm sorry but I refuse to use the imperial system, the metric system is the only acceptable thing.
Statistically, a good way to determine height is to take the parents' heights, find the middle and then add 13 cm if it's a guy, or take them away if it's a girl. And I imagine Harry and Ginny having a height difference that is somewhere between 20 and 25 cm. This would bring James and Albus around Harry's height, but it's a statistic, so it's done with the assumption that the parents have a height that can be considered average in their families.
Now, Ginny is short, sure, but all her brothers are very tall, so the possibility of Ginny having recessive "tall genes" is very high. Stupid example: my father and his brother are a lot taller than the other men in their family, they just took after one great-grandfather that was really really tall and their cousins didn't. My grandfather wasn't that tall either but he clearly had that recessive gene that he passed on to his sons (in my grandma's family they aren't tall either). My brother is even taller and I can assure you that my mum is not tall. Now imagine that you are the only short one of seven children, the possibility of carrying "tall genes" is super high.
Another thing to take into consideration is that while height is determined at 80% by genetic factors, there's still a solid 20% of free game. This is why people keep getting taller than the previous generations even in a society where height is not as relevant as it was when you had to daily fight for your life. There are environmental and nutritional factors to consider. So boys are usually slightly taller than their fathers and that would be especially true with the Potter boys considering that Harry spent ten years of his childhood (the more impactful time in terms of external influences on the body) suffering malnutrition. That Harry still managed to become objectively tall means that he probably had some serious tall genes in him.
This said, I just wanted James and Albus to be tall. If we need to find a lucky one with the genetic pool is actually Teddy. I know that no one remembers this, but at the end of the books, Harry is taller than Remus.
Also, I'm so happy that you liked pediatric healer Teddy and especially auror Lily! Lily was always an Auror in my head! Just like Ginny for the Weasleys, Lily is the first girl born in the Potter family for several generations it seems, she needs to be a badass with a cool job! Making her a Quidditch player like Ginny was too obvious. And having Harry's little girl doing his dangerous job is definitely the universal payback against Harry for all the heart attacks he gives to the people that love him over the years.
As for Teddy, he's a softie. He needs to have an adorable job but he's also Head Boy, so you know he was good at school and he would be interested in healing because of Remus. A pediatric healer seemed the perfect compromise. I've also always been fascinated by the whole idea of children being bitten and becoming werewolves at such a young age, like how do you deal with that? So I thought it would be something cool and personally important for Teddy to explore in his career.

How tall do you think the Marauders + the girls were?
Hehe I have thought about this a lot. JUST TO PREFACE: Apparently this fandom really cares about height. You can disagree with me, but you legally cannot tell me I'm wrong.
Pandora: she is either Smol or very Tol. Like either 5'2 or 5'9 (I don't think she's over six feet it just isn't her vibe)
Lily: That gal is an average height queen. 5'4/5'5
Mary: 5'3 at the most and Owns It
Marlene: 5'6 she's tall enough to put her head on Mary's and then some and she loves it
Dorcas: 6'0 LOVES to make Marlene feel short
Alice: 5'2 she's short for the same reason Regulus is short I don't have a further explanation for that I'm sorry BUT I also love the headcanon of her being 6'2 and Frank being her short king boyfriend
James 6'2 BUT my secret favourite Jegulus HC is short king James who's 5'3
Sirius: 5'8 He's tall and brags about it, that being said...
Peter 5'9 loves the fact that he's an inch taller than Sirius. Peter is the definition of tall & soft and I love it
Remus: 6'4 Tall, very tall. Always complains about low ceilings
Regulus: 5'4/5'5 UNLESS it's my secret Jegulus HC here he's 6'0
Barty: that man is 5'3 at the most. Small and angry.
Evan: 5'6/5'7 pretty average. He's an average guy what can I say
Frank: Either 6'3 or 5'7 no other options.
My brain is at like 30% capacity. If I forgot one tell me and I'll add them 😊

short sirius has forever been associated with a gay + misogynistic caricature that would be offensive if put in literally any other context that isn't the modern marauders fanon, so to me, tall sirius is important bc it clearly differentiates his characterization from that other goddamn clown using his name lol
I agree Anon,
If we're playing New Fanon's rules, I cannot stress enough the importance of Sirius being tall, because it's the only way they might accept Sirius and stay true to his character. His height wasn't even that important until New Fanon made it important because he is not short in any version of canon.
Making him average height like movies is one thing. Making him short is odd. Making him femme in appearance because he's now short is questionable. Changing his personality from confident, arrogant, and an asshole to being quick to cry, dramatic, and needing a tall alpha male boyfriend to match with his femme appearance is fully making him an OC. And it does come off as strongly misogynistic to turn a masculine character femme and making a gay ship look like a straight couple. It's misogynistic the way they portray femme Sirius next to New Fanon Remus, who also had a height and personality make over.
I understand people want representation of their queerness and appearance, but they've changed Wolfstar so dramatically, that honestly I think they should just commit and make them official OCs at this point. They're not Sirius and Remus anymore, they're Siri and Romulus.
