i love that at work we share anecdotes we’ve dug up in our research w one another in a very gossipy way, and, like, i do end up looking up some of it myself if i really feel like sharing it w guests, but a lot of the time its just a vague story that i know i believe bc emily told me and i trust her to have good sources, but it also feels very in-character to be like “im not going to tell anyone this bc it might not be true, but my friend said that my neighbor henry has been tricking college kids into eating laxatives out of spite, and thats just information i have now”
#messages from the ouija board#sadies day job#sometimes if im making small talk w guests about my pockets i do memtion like ‘mrs akeley told me she heard about a woman#who stole a duck by putting in in her pocket’ bc thats a good story and idk if its true but it IS true that mary told me and i forgot to ask#her what her source was.#its probably a little irresponsible but sometimes ive got a 15 minute seating period and only 3 people show up so i just have to vamp#and so much of my actual research lately has been into sodomy laws and this family of 3 doesnt need to know about the guy who was accused#of fucking a pig bc the pig had a piglet that looked like the guy and the piglet was a witness at trial#its a great story but ur kid is what? 5?#and my other research rabbit hole has been early american birth control methods#which are awful and its crazy bc in north america the indigenous and enslaved populations were using certain plants that were fairly safe??#and then english settlers were like ‘huh. we are not going to note that. have u tried poisoning urself? heres poison.’
