(re last post) and the thing is, we were in fact sometimes discussing the future of the church, of course, in the auditorium after hours before drama club rehearsals. it was the early 2000s and gay marriage had just been legalized in my state. the administration had teachers hand out papers to everyone at the end of the day with numbers of government officials to call and complain to try to get it overturned â and the student bodyâs reaction by and large was outrage at the administration for that. my friends and I complained to the teachers and left the papers strewn around the floors of classrooms and hallway with angry scribblings. And the next day, principal sister mary janice got on the intercom and apologized. that felt great.
and that year, in the drama club we were putting on âjoseph and the amazing technicolor dream-coatâ and we did have some boys in it (from the nearby all boy catholic school) but no one was as good as this girl cathleen who just fucking killed it at everything, so she was our joseph. she was so cool and nice and talented, such a great actor, she had this beautiful rich alto singing voice and long curly black hair, all my friends and I loved her and looked up to her (she was a senior when we were sophomores). and the first time she was trying on the dream-coat costume on stage, I remember she did a little spin and unfurled it with her arms out to show all the rainbow colors and went, âsupport gay marriage!â and we all laughed and cheered. that was 2004.
#and anyway I guess weirdly conclave kind of reminds me of. all that?#long post///#personal////#just felt like reminiscing at whoever might like to read?#I could also tell you about my momâs cousin who converted to episcopalianism and became a priest#and my grandma who was her aunt and her godmother fucking disowned her#and years later saw her for the first time in years at this womanâs motherâs funeral (so my grandmaâs sisterâs funeral)#and all she had to say about seeing her was that she couldnât believe the disrespect! the nerve! she was wearing her episcopal priest collar#ÂŻ\_(ă)_/ÂŻ
